My boyfriend and I were visiting from NYC and were looking for a great Saturday night dinner spot on Yelp. Santa Fe uptown caught my eye immediately! I love a good margarita (frozen yes please) and anything Mexican food related. I ordered a frozen margarita of course & my boyfriend had a Pacifico beer. The margarita was excellent. It was so refreshing and they offered a great variety of flavors. We started with a lobster quesadilla, which was so delicious. I ended up ordering the pulled pork tacos and my boyfriend had the fish tacos. Overall everything was so delicious and fresh. We really enjoyed our experience and the service was top notch. What a surprise! My boyfriend and I decided to stop here on the way back to the city from the Adirondacks and were pleasantly surprised. This place was pretty busy on a Thursday night yet no issues getting a a table. One of the servers gave us chips and salsa and water early on. I would like to say the service was great at this restaurant and the waitresses were very friendly. We tried the Fish tacos and shrimp burritos which were very tasty The fish tacos did not lack in portion at all and it was quite juicy. The Shrimp burrito was equally savory. The salad, beans and rice gave a nice touch to the entrees. Don't forget to ask for the jabanero house made salsas! It's very spicy but a nice addition to the entrees. Worst Mexican Food Ever! I tried this place out when I was visiting the Kingston area from Austin, TX. I'm a Texan and I've eaten TexMex and AUTHENTIC Mexican food my whole life. What these folks are shoveling onto the plates should not be called Mexican. The flavors were poorly balanced and bland. There's SO much more to Mexican food than tacos, chimichangas and burritos. The presentation was incredibly unappetizing. When my plate was served to me I joked with my guest, "What sort of fresh hell is this?" It looked like cafeteria food. We ate a little bit of it and left the rest on our plates. We went somewhere else and ate Italian. I'm actually coming back to Kingston this upcoming week and when I'm there I think I'll stick to Italian and wait until I'm back in Texas to get good Mexican food. read more

We had a reservation for 6:30 on Taco Tuesday night. We were seated at 6:45. Outside with an upcoming storm. We agreed to sit outside thinking our food (tacos) wouldn't take too long. Out of 9 people in the party, 3 had to leave without their food because it was 8:15 and we hadn't been served yet. The waitress (lovely but overwhelmed with the poor operations of this restaurant) agreed to at least get to go containers for the people who had to leave. When those people got their meals in a To Go container, they were WRONG! They couldn't even eat them. Another person in our party order 2 chicken tacos, 1 taco arrived without any chicken filling. Start to finish 6:20 to 8:30 and we didn't even eat yet. The waitress had to give us to go containers. It was horrible dining experience. I've been to this restaurant on multiple occasions for family events, and even a few on my own to make up for previous experiences.. Let's just say, it was never better than the last. Firstly, takeout is horrible from this restaurant, they told me 45 minutes, I arrived after those 45 minutes and waited for about 10 minutes before someone came to talk to me (hostess) even though I had been standing where I was supposed to, in clear view. I waited about another 40 minutes waiting for my food, just standing in the doorway as every 15 minutes they'd say "it will be right out." Once I got the (overpriced needless to say) food and had the chance to 'eat' my tacos, they were so spicy that I couldn't even swallow it. Horrible food, a family member also disliked her food and we were upset to have payed $60+ food food we couldn't even finish. read more

This place is so much more than Mexican! Everything you can think of- always fresh and delicious! The nachos and tacos- of course, are delish. But- my very favorite thing is the buffalo cauliflower! I've tried to re-create it at home- just not the same! And PS- vegetarian and gluten free! The service is always great- super friendly, and the prices, too! Went here for dinner this past weekend with a large group of girls. We sat outside to enjoy the nice warm weather. I had a late lunch, so only ordered the black bean soup which hit the spot. It was just the right consistency, size, and had a wonderful blend of flavors. As I arrived last, I didn't get to try to chips, salsa, and guacamole since the rest of the girls CLEANED the plates off. I'm assuming they were THAT good. :P We had pitchers of margaritas that were nice, but could have been stronger. The rest of the girls ordered entrees and the portions were huge; I don't think anyone was able to finish their whole plate. Not a big deal, but it was a bit confusing figuring out who worked there, since the servers were all wearing random clothes (interesting that there isn't a uniform, but some name tags might be helpful). Well I went back to Santa Fe tonight. Our second time was a success. We were seated promptly. We got complimentary chips and salsa almost immediately. Our drink orders were taken and fulfilled within five minutes. And our tacos for "taco Tuesday" were ordered and at our table in a few minutes. No rush. Friendly servers. The server was nice! When I asked for iced tea however, the tea is obviously instant and not brewed tea. The food, although quite delicious, was more expensive than what I am used to paying for Mexican food. When it came time for our check, we could not find our server and had to ask another server for our check. We didn't see our initial server prior to leaving and the server who handled our bill short changed us . Like I said, the food was delicious but lacked heat and spice. This is a really sweet spot in Uptown Kingston and we really need good restaurants there. Unfortunately, sweetness is also their undoing. The lemon water was served in the glass part of old sugar dispensers. This led me to think, "what did they do with all that sugar?" Why, they've put it in the food, of course! The menu is headed in the right direction, conceptually, but evidently they lost confidence and felt they had to -- add sugar! Everything from the sauces to the dressings were waaaaaay too sweet. They project a "healthy/freshest ingredients" philosophy but the sugar really blows that away. Some other points: - The staff was friendly and efficient - The place looks really nice and is a nice addition to Uptown. - The portions were small (I ordered an entree salad with grilled shrimp. There were only five shrimp served.) - The chips were colorful but didn't taste so good. Splurge a bit on your chips, folks! - The salsa could use some oomph. - Parking is available. I have been to Santa Fe two times - once for happy hour and once for lunch. I wish I could remember the name of the one bartender that served us at happy hour because she was absolutely fantastic. She provided excellent service and was very friendly and accommodating. There was a group of about six of us and we went on a Friday. There weren't enough seats for all of us but we were still comfortable. It was not crazy busy but it was a nice crowd for a Friday night. Today, my friend and I had lunch at Santa Fe. The service was great! Once again, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I was very impressed. We both had the chicken chimichanga and it was excellent. I was very surprised by the large portion we got for lunch which included a nice side salad and side of rice and beans. Everything was very tasty! Went here tonight with a large party from work. The staff were friendly and accommodating (we had a reservation). The ambiance is casual and cute. Nice bar area and there's a patio outside as well. The food was very good. I ordered the enchiladas tipicos and they were phenomenal. Big portion size.Two others at the table ordered the same and enjoyed it, too. Another ordered a chicken salad and that looked great! Again, portions were pretty generous. Another companion really enjoyed the blank bean soup. Heard the shrimp appetizer was unremarkable. Upon being seated, I was brought a bowl of chips (three colors, no less) and fresh salsa, thick enough to stay on my chips without running off. The salsa, however, was so mild that it had no bite to it at all. I ordered a steak burrito, medium rare ($16.95, which is $2 more than their Tivoli location). When it came, it was accompanied by rice (mild in flavor) and black beans, a bit of salad greens and vinaigrette, and topped with a dollop of sour cream. There must be a rigid portion control on the meat. I estimate that I received no more than 3 ounces of steak, granted it was as ordered, and so bland as to be without flavor. My go-to Tex-Mex restaurant (Armadillo) has never let me leave hungry after one entree, and certainly not for that price... Service was good. Parking on the street, and, in the evenings, you can park at the county lot next door. So, IMHO, two stars for bland food and not enough of it to offset the relatively high price (for Mexican food). read more

I love this place. The food is great, the service is great, it's just great! My favorite night is Tuesday, Taco and Tequila Tuesday. $4 Tacos (a la carte) and $5 Margaritas. The Sweet Potato Tacos are exquisite. The Guacamole is wonderful. I've had about 1/2 the menu and it's all great. The steak mushroom and red onion quesadilla is one of my favorites. Just based off the sauces alone Santa Fe is worth 5 stars and then some. But virtually everything on the menu is just fresh and ridiculously tasty. My favorite still has to be shrimp tacos, which served on a properly grilled shell with an abundance of guacamole, is to me perfection especially when paired with their habanero sauce. A co-worker and me ventured in on a Friday, the only day they serve lunch. I ordered the pulled pork tacos and WOW were they amazing. The pulled pork was juicy and had an amazing sauce. I did go for the side of guac since I love it with anything mexican, plus it gave the pork more flavor. I wasn't into the hot sauces, but my co-worker liked them. That was the one downfall of the meal for me, which is minor, but hot sauces should be perfected at a tex-mex joint. The service wasn't as great as I had hoped, considering there were only two tables being served and we were one of them. I went without a water refill for the entire meal since I didn't see the waitress till we were almost finished. Be a little more attentive! Overall, definitely would go back again!! read more

We discovered Santa Fe Uptown quite by chance when we were in Kingston shopping. We almost didn't see it because they don't have a sign, only some metal letters on a metal trellis thing extending from the front door. Wow, what a treat! The pork tacos were very flavorful and the best thing is that the tortillas are done exactly the way I like them: cooked, but not too hard. It appears that they are just grilled or possibly quickly dipped in the fryer then grilled. No pre-formed shells here. All complaints about the salsa, etc not being spicy enough are ridiculous. They serve shot glasses of excellent and very picante hot sauces which can be used to spice up whatever you have. For some people, even slightly spicy salsa is too spicy and you can't un-spice salsa but you can always add to it. The biggest negative for lunch applies to all businesses in Old Town Kingston: Parking is ridiculous. I think most businesses have to rely on foot traffic from all of the businesses and gov't offices. We just got lucky after driving around the block three times. We went there for lunch and can't wait to return for dinner in the near future. read more

This is one of my favorite places in Kingston! Everything I've tried on their menu has been spectacular and so tasteful. The only disappointing thing I've tried was their fried cauliflower taco. I loved fried cauliflower but the taco was lacking a lot of substance. However, that being said I have a lot more good to say about Santa Fe besides that one experience. Dine or Ditch? Dine...bring your sombrero! I walked in with a group of friends for "Taco Tuesday," a term coined by one of the regulars living in Kingston. Although I cannot speak for the rest of the food on the menu, every Tuesday they have a $4 deal for any Taco on the menu, including the special of the day - this time chicken with avocado, along with all you can eat nachos and salsa. Overall the Taco's were tasty and well crafted with toppings and sauce. While I was happy with the food, and the price point was spot on, this certainly wasn't the best Taco I've had. What really made the experience was the fun ambiance and consideration from the wait staff - they provided several dining patrons who were sitting outside on the patio with multicolored hand woven shawls (for someone who always get's chilly, this was a nice touch!). read more
