Not what we wanted. We aren't from this area and wanted a Mexican restaurant and this popped up. Location is good, atmosphere nice, service was lacking and menu was lousy. Almost nothing to pick from, no normal tacos or burritos. We ended up getting a few appetizers to split. Taquitoes were delicious! The shrimp dish and guacamole were just ok. Would not be a favorite spot if we were locals. read more

Food - the food is good. Pulled pork tacos are great, they also have steak and fish tacos that are good. There quesadilla or ok. I have had the calamari a couple times and its been very good. So far I really like the consistence in quality of food. They have a wing night and unfortunately this is the only night they are served. There specials are usually excellent. Drinks - huge selection oh tequila and 3 Mexican beers on tap. They have a large bar area inherited from the previous restaurants at this location. Atmosphere - dark, upscale , clean, intimate and quite. if you want to watch a game on the TV or listen to music so loud you can't hear the person your with then its not the place your looking for. read more

Our new favorite restaurant in town! We've had mixed experiences at Armadillo, the other Mexican restaurant in Kingston, so were super excited when we found out Santa Fe had opened. It's quickly become our favorite place to go when we're craving 1) Mexican, 2) Margaritas, or 3) Comfort food. The highlights: - the staff is always very friendly, prompt, and accommodating - as vegetarians, though there are limited options on the menu, we have been happy with every thing. I have cravings for the sweet potato and goat cheese tacos... and order it almost every time. - the homemade hot sauces, available by request, are sooooooo hot but incredible! Just a drop or two is enough! - the margaritas are stellar. I especially love the signature Santa Fe. - they are SO accommodating to vegetarians and gluten-free folks. I'm not celiac or gluten intolerant, but I often prefer the gluten-free corn tacos to the flour ones. It's never been a problem to sub them in my meal :) The only reason I've given 4 stars instead of 5 is because one time I ordered the Roasted Beet salad and it was the only time I've been a little disappointed. Despite the name of the dish, the beets tasted like they'd been boiled (a little soggy and without that deep, roasted flavor), and the pecans were coated in a sugary candied coating that was overly sweet. We have eaten at the Kingston Santa Fe probably a dozen times. We love the food and the service from the chips and Salsa that is placed on your table as you are seated to the delectable main courses and finally the excellent coffee and desserts. After perusing Yelp, I realized a fav spot up in Tivoli had opened another branch of their restaurant in Kingston. Tried it tonight and were delighted to find the quality, and innovative menu carried over to this new outpost as well. Formerly, we'd be fans of Armadillo, but quality has slipped quite noticabally over the years. We are pleased to have a new option for Mexican, one that stands a notch about. Highly recommended! PS. Came up to Kingston to visit with friends, and our native to the area took us to Santa Fe. Great atmosphere right away, and great service. As a vegetarian, I am always looking for decent options at every restaurant I go to, and Santa Fe did not disappoint. AMAZING buffalo cauliflower tacos (had blue cheese and cheddar... YUM, and drink were tasty. The portions were pretty large too, as the tacos come with rice and beans and a side salad. Whenever I am back in this area, I will definitely return. read more

Loved it! The bartender was great describing all the different Tequilas. All four of us started with the blackened shrimp app, really yummy. Then I had the vegetarian sweet potato taco, probably the yummiest taco I have ever had. All four of us split a slice of key lime pie... it was just the way I like it a little tart and not too sweet. The hostess was delightful as was our waitress, both in a genuine yet slightly quirky fun way! My wife craved Margaritas and Mexican food. We chose Santa Fe Uptown based on Yelp reviews. Good Mexican food difficult to find. We were lucky enough to find parking right outside the front door. We entered and were seated without wait. The restaurant is quaint, nothing fancy. I thought it was devoid of, I don't know, something on the bare walls. Red is the predominant color scheme. Salsa, chips and water were delivered immediately. Our waiter, Marco, took our drink orders. The drinks took quite a while to arrive. This was my only complaint. Otherwise, everything else was perfect. The food was delicious, from the salsa, to dinner and dessert. The margaritas were strong and not too sweet (which we prefer). The service was excellent. We finished the last nacho chip and a young lady asked if we wanted more. Another carafe of water was brought to the table without asking. The prices were good, better than reasonable. My wife wants to go again. That alone is a compliment to any restaurant. read more

Didn't really like the food, service or ambiance. No fault of the establishment but there were some noisy people at the bar so first impression wasn't great. Chips and salsa finally arrived at table along with lukewarm tap water. Chips were tri-colored hard right out of the bag ( opened possibly yesterday?) and salsa was blah. Dinners also lacked any real technical skill in the prep. Service was strange..many different servers, rather disconnected. Definitely no relationship building with your server! Santa Fe is located in the historical uptown area of Kingston, the first capital of New York. It is within walking distance of many interesting sites - Old Dutch Church, Senate House, 1818 Court House, Persen House, etc. I am not a big fan of Tex-Mex but have been to Santa Fe a handful of times because it appears to cater to all. Solid mexican food, great atmosphere, and good service all combine to make a great mexican food experience. Apps we had were fried plantains, really delicious, guacamole, fresh and very tasty, guacamole comes nicely presented with cucumbers and jalapeños,. The last appetizer we had was a delicious black bean soup. Entrees were pulled pork tacos and sliced steak burrito. Both were properly cooked and seasoned. Portions were large enough for big eaters. I recently had dinner at Santa Fe with my husband and mom, and it was an enjoyable experience. The chips and salsa were tasty and plentiful. My entree, the sweet potato tacos, was delicious and came with generous sides of rice and beans and salad. The key lime pie was the best I've ever had. My mom and husband enjoyed their dinners as well, and we all had a good amount of leftovers for lunch the next day. The atmosphere is fun and our waitress was so very nice. I would be happy to return. Edit: Out of curiosity, I checked out the filtered reviews and noticed that the majority of them were 4 or 5 stars. The filtered reviews are actually a more accurate depiction of this restaurant than some of the reviews on here that count towards the actual rating of this establishment. Given the experiences family & friends of mine and I had at Sante Fe along with the filtered reviews (which is the majority of the reviews), I don't think the current rating is at all accurate. Sante Fe definitely deserves a higher all-around rating and the business it is getting. read more

Wow, I was blown away by this place! I am from NYC and am always surrounded by great places to eat. I am in Kingston temporarily and of course, like a city slicker, had my nose pointed up at the restaurants of upstate New York. I got their steak burrito and it is easily in the top 5 burritos in my life. The steak was tender and cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. The tortilla was grilled just right. Their rice and beans on the side was a good complement, although a little larger portion of that would have been nice. The ambiance was great -- not too loud, yet lively. The Tivoli hot spot now has a location on this side of the river. Plus, the Demostenes family is in partnership. They also own Hillside Manor which is a great catering facility. OK...back to the good stuff. While Kingston has good, authentic Mexican restaurants, we have been looking forward to a fun, colorful, hip restaurant with upscale Tex-Mex. Armadillo is tired. That being said, the food is identical to that of Santa Fe in Tivoli. So...It's very good. Add to that totally hot young women servers who actually do provide superior service and you have a winning combination. The crowd is mixed, eclectic, local, weekender, etc... Very friendly place with a nice atmosphere. Sat at the bar while waiting for a table. Bar service was friendly but understaffed -- the bartender didn't stop moving for the 45 minutes we sat there and we had a hard time getting his eye. Service was much more prompt once we got a table. One of my top restaurant choices in the Kingston area. Taco Tuesday's are great with the delicious grilled shells (steak is my favorite)! Wing Wednesday's are a part of our week every week! The sauces are amazing; spicy Mexican buffalo and honey chipotle are my favorites. The chips and salsa add on to the deliciousness and you cannot stop eating them. The service is fantastic, every employee is very attentive and friendly, along with quick service. I feel very welcome and like I'm at home. I love this place and I highly recommend it to everyone!
