I consider myself somewhat of a pizza connoisseur, just love the stuff. I've eaten pizza in NY, Chicago, Italy, all over California, and at numerous places in Nashville (Nashville actually has a lot of great pizza joints) and other cities. I'd have to rate this place as one of the top 5 best pizzas I've ever had. We ordered a sausage, garlic and hot pepper pizza. Everything was perfect, the crust was firm and crispy, the sauce was delicious and the hot peppers added a little bit of snap to the pizza. This is the type of pizza where you can grab a slice, give it a slight curve which supports the slice and eat away without the toppings sliding off. Every time I took a bite of the pizza I kept saying "this is some damn good pizza". We also ordered a skewer of lamb kabob which was delicious: very flavorful and very tender. If you want some old school delicious pizza and kabobs, I'd highly recommend this place. read more

Mark Wiens went here and ofc after the old grannies in his video said this was the best pizza they had-- I decided that this pizza place is probably worth a try We ventured to east Boston just to try this place out and it was definitely a no frills, local joint. Reginas was a could not even compare and is worlds apart from Santarpios and the customer service is awful and brusque at Regina's. If you like pizza that is saucy then you'll like this pizza. Looking for Pizza? Look no further because this was place to go. We ordered for call ahead here and were quoted 20 minutes. We got there easily on the blue line and when we got there it was ready! We took these pizzas all the way back to back bay and they were still hot. We got the sausage one, chicken and then pepperoni and each one was to die for. Delicious, cheesy and quality ingredients. Worth every penny! I grew up on Eagle Hill, went to school at East Boston Central Catholic and played football in the stadium a short walk from Santarpios. I always measured other pizza against the Best of Santarpios. Horrible pizza yesterday, ordered two...to go (not my idea ) The dough had zero flavor...should have a little chew to it, nah, like Styrofoam. Sauce was more acidic And cheese weren't right from my memories. My wife ordered, someone told her there's no longer lamb tips.....WHAT??? Sadly I hoped for more from this place. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could but it doesn't deserve the full fourth star compared to other great pizza places this reviewer has visited and enjoyed. It checks all of the other boxes - cool quirky old school pizza joint ambience, friendly and efficient staff. But when it came down to the pizza it was just average and the crust although wood fired was bland and not very flavorful (aka crust wasn't worth the caloric splurge). Finally checked out this spot and it did not disappoint. Had the shrimp scampi pizza and a reg cheese pizza. They came out piping hot and we're tasty once they cooled down. I'm serious you will burn your mouth if you don't wait. Customer service was great and there was plenty of seating inside. There was a bit of a wait because it's first come first serve and they take you as you come in so no need to put a name down. There's a very tiny "waiting" area if you don't want to wait outside, but it fits at least three people and makes it hard for others to exit. I imagine the wait is not the best in the colder months. It's within walking distance from the blue line. I am not sure about parking because it is Eastie, but if you know the area you could probably find a spot. After all of the hype, I can objectively tell you this pizza does not live up to expectations. Bland is the word that comes to mind. Cheese, sauce, and crust were so mid-tier and uninspiring. The actual form of the pizza was sub-par - it lacked integrity. This review is for the east Boston location. We got here around 8:30 on a Saturday and it was daily busy. We were sat down right away and when I asked what is recommended, I was told everything. We settled on a meat lovers pizza and a beef to skewer. My god those skewers were to die for. The meat was so tender and had such a nice meaty taste. The bread it came with was so perfect for sopping up the meat juices. It doesn't need any sauce or anything, just the pure charcoal grilled meat. The cherry peppers the skewers came with was my favorite. The pizza was incredible but the cheese and toppings was coming off the dough. It maybe needed to sit another few minutes before we started eating. But delicious nonetheless. If we lived here this would be a staple in our rotation. This is not a New York style pizza joint, but that is okay. To me, this is like the Tony Luke's of Boston, give me a moment as I explain this. The location of Santarpio's is right underneath an overpass, just like Tony Luke's. It is in a questionable neighborhood, just like Tony Luke's. The hometown vibe is undeniably felt here, just like Tony Luke's. The passion of the food and staff is seen in every aspect of this restaurant, just like Tony Luke's. In regards to passion for the food, I got a sausage and cheese pie and it is incredible. The mix of garlic in there makes it hard to not just eat one slice. I ate the whole thing. The crispy crust, the porky meat, the stringy cheese, it makes me want to eat this pizza all over again... in my head. My sever, Loretta, is a total doll. She epitomizes Boston, and while she briefly busted my chops for being a New Yorker, she ensured I would have a great pizza, and to cut to the chase, I did. I highly recommend this pizza joint to all. Just remember to bring cash as they are a cash only business. They have an ATM in case you forget this.
