What happened to this place? I try not to overreact to a bad night but I ordered a pizza Friday night (3 weeks ago had the same bad experience). It was the worst pizza I have ever had from here. Barbecue Steak Tips and Chicken Kabobs, Bread and Cherry Peppers were excellent. Surprisingly, the Pizza was pretty bad. The Meat Lovers featured a huge helping of undercooked, tasteless, chewy, grisly sausage meat and likewise unappealing hamburger meat. The few pieces of pepperoni were powerless to salvage this gray, greasy mess as the undercooked sausage meat saturated the crust into a paper thin, soggy mess. Not worth the extra trip for this disaster of a pizza. As always, the hostess was unfriendly, ignorant and unaccommodating. ALL of the "greeters" that we've encountered at Santarpio's over the years have been similarly disinterested and do nothing to add to the dining experience. Waitresses are only marginally better. I can't say enough about this place. 13 hour drive. Checked into the hotel next door and decided we needed a quick bite. We spent so much time laughing and talking to the wonderful "Boston" accented woman who seated us that we almost forgot we needed to eat. The pizza is always great to taste however at this location, their crust can really do some damage to your gums when you're eating away at it. We ordered 1 medium sized cheese with pepperoni pizza and 1 order of the single skewered lamb, this order is served with a hot cherry peppers & fresh baked Italian bread. The pizza was a great choice for 2; however as a personal preference, I prefer to having my toppings on TOP of the pizza not beneth the cheese; our pepperoni was buried under the cheese and sauce. I've been to the Santarpio's in East Boston many so I had an idea what to expect, no frills, just good Thin Crust Pizza and some Bar-B-Que Meats. I have to say the pizza was a disappointment, over cooked, smallish and very skimpy on the toppings -not really very good at all. In fairness if you only do 2 things, you should excel at them and this was mediocre at BEST - No appetizers on the menu- go somewhere else, just not worth the $$ and in my opinion over rated BIG TIME read more

When I was younger, grabbing Santarpio's from the East Boston location was one of my favorite places for pizza in Mass. I usually get it once a year, but haven't had it since 2021 when I got it this month. Not sure what happened, the pizza is completely different....size was smaller, taste, thickness - and not for the better. It was disorganized trying to pick up my order - which it was a Friday, so I understand it was busy, but the pizza was middle of the road; not bad and not worth writing home about. The older staff is VERYYYY rude!!!! I had to go in today for a quick pick up which I had already paid for and have done many times in the past. The older lady at the counter rolled her eyes at me as soon as I walked in and kept waving her arms in my face and being EXTREMELY rude!!!! One of the best pizzas I've ever had ! definitely right up with the best pizzas in the Boston area ! I ordered the pizza to go with Italian cheese pepperoni sausage peppers and onions! Having frequently been to East Boston location, I was looking forward to seeing what Peabody had to offer. I went I. For lunch, seated, given a menu and ordered my food. I mentioned to the waitress that I wanted a single lamb, salad and bread, grill the peppers. The cook brought them out, who I recognized from East Boston, as I am a regular. This was a pizza place across the street from my hotel. And recommended by the hotel. The bar is in the center of the restaurant and raised up a few feet which is always nice. There are booths as well as regular tables, the set up of the restaurant is quite nice. The furnishings and The bar are a little old and can use some polishing up for updating but the staff is quite pleasant and it is always fun to hear that Boston accent when you were from out of the area. The pizza was good, nothing spectacular but they did have a real pizza oven with fire. The pizza was a bit overcooked but I love mine that way so it made me happy. It is in a area where it is more of a commuter area so if you get stuck in traffic it would be a great place to pop your head into grab pizza and a beer. This would be a good place if you need just to pop in and grab something to eat but nothing really to go way out of your way to visit. read more

After a long day of driving across country, I went here with my lovely woman. We were both tired from the drive and we ordered a meat lovers pizza to go. As we waited for our pizza, I couldn't stop but think how lucky I am to have this wonderful creature in my life. Her beauty slaps me with a handful everyday. I love being by her side and her by mine. She is the most amazing woman in the world to me like the amazing pizza I was waiting to devour. Hands down the best pizza I ever had, especially because my beautiful lady was with me. That's a serious credibility issue and I think it's sad that those reviews get equal weight. One of them just complained about the egos of the Santarpio family? Umm, helpful? Not! Yes, it's busy. "The place sucks so bad that it's super busy. I'm gonna give this place one star because too many people are going here to eat." I love the logic in that. Apparently, there are throngs of people who like to eat cheese on top of cardboard. LOTS of people. The pizza here is fantastic. Plain cheese or one of two toppings seems to come out the best. Any more and the pizza can get weighed down, but even then it's still better than anything else you can get outside Boston. Love the lamb tips and the sausage BBQ too. The lamb has a smokey flavor and isn't too gamey. Have no idea why they added sirloin tips to the menu. They're not half as flavorful as the lamb. Methinks the general American public is afraid of lamb, so Santarpio's caved in and offered beef. The pizza is best piping hot, so dining in is the best option. It heats up well in the toaster oven though. When we've ordered take-out, I always reheat the slices. Lukewarm just doesn't do it and the pizza cooling off during the drive home isn't the restaurant's fault. read more

Yikes. I've never had a pizza that had no flavor... until now. We got a peppers, onions and mushroom to go. But we didn't wait, we chowed down right in the parking lot. First bite, besides mouth burning hot right out of the oven was just a squishy,chewy crispy confusion. I thought maybe I didn't taste anything because it was too hot. I waited, took a few more bites, but literally this pizza had absolutely no flavor. The sauce didn't taste like tomato or spices, the cheese also bland and rubbery. All I could taste was some peppers. The mushrooms were no where to be seen. I was really baffled by this. And to affirm other reviews, the crust is INCREDIBLY hard and tough to chew and eat. I give credit that it is nice and crispy where its sauced and it lends a balance of textures, but the crust is almost lethal to knaw on. It might be easier to write about what I did not try here then what we did try here. I have to confess that I have never been to the original so I have not frame of reference. My Yelp Friend, Frannie, has been to this location many times though so I had a guide to my gastronomic adventure. We started with just a garden salad with the homemade vinaigrette. Of the things we tried, I could have done without this but maybe we needed the veggies to offset the meat that was to come. We did a combination plate of Steak tips and sausage. The steak tips were not cooked to order in that they were undercooked but they still tasted good. While I am not a sausage fan, these were extremely delicious. Short take? Solid pie but nothing amazing. The service is so so. There's usually a wait, but with a limited menu, I'm at a loss to see why. but the pizza is the focus. The crust would be good if they didn't bake to the point of char. The cheese is a perfect blend of the savory and the nutty. The sauce is not too overpowering, but an indefinable something is lacking. They do well on the toppings, but nothing that you couldn't find somewhere else. Ultimately, my only real "problem" is the location. Route 1 is a nightmare. So if I'm going to head out there, I want it to be for something AMAZING. Was excited to try for the first time. It took awhile for a waitress to come and when she came she asked if we were ready to order but we had not even been given menus yet. We ordered steak tips medium rare and they were well-done. We were given two plates, not three, and by the time our waitress came around it was too late, we managed three people and 2 plates. Also, we ordered a drink and she never brought it. We reordered it and got it after being there for 40 mins. She never apologized. When the pizza came we didn't have enough plates again and waited for her to come around to finally get a plate. The pizza was 10 out of 10 - amazing. I would get takeout but I wouldn't risk such poor service and the extra money it is to go out. The pizza is smaller than an average large so keep this in mind and get an extra one, but it was very delicious. I wish they had employees that better represented them. Going out isn't cheap and when you do as a family you hope it's good and when it's not it's really disappointing. read more
