We went to Santi for our anniversary on a Thursday night while visiting NYC. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was amazing. We had a reservation for right when they opened. We waited briefly at the bar until our table was ready then we were escorted upstairs to our corner table, which was nice so we could cozy up a bit. Our server Claudio greeted us. I was in the mood for truffle but he assured me the pastas I was deciding between were good on their own and not to mess with the flavor! The chef ended up making us two tiny truffle bites which was so kind! For appetizers we each had a drink and shared a salad. For dinner, I ordered the gnocchi and my husband the bolognese. They were both the best pasta we have had in a long time. Even the bread service, served with their house-made butter and imported olive oil was top-notch. We were too full for desert but they provided petit fours and a complimentary cupcake for our anniversary. Okay WOW. My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday and we had such an amazing dining experience. The inside is beautiful and our waitress was really attentive, witty, and a pleasure to be served by. All the staff here are really thoughtful - our waters were always filled, we were regularly offered more bread, and everyone seemed to know it was my birthday (which as a Leo I love)! We got a lot of dishes here and each one was excellent. We started with the shrimp crudo which was AMAZING - honestly I still think about it and it's been weeks. The shrimp was sweet and buttery, and the accoutrements worked perfectly. The octopus was really fresh and had a great crisp exterior. The couscous underneath was really yummy too. We split the octopus ragout and the crab pappardelle. The octopus is smoked which really elevated the dish. The sauce had great umami flavor and some freshness from the greens. The crab was plentiful and the sauce was spicy, though didn't have a ton of flavor otherwise. Both pastas were cooked perfectly. We noshed on some focaccia and sourdough bread throughout the meal which was wonderful with the bread and olive oil, both were very high quality. For dessert we got the strawberry and pistachio tarte, and they brought out ab adorable free dessert as well. They were a perfect end to the meal. Santi might be the best Italian option in midtown, made by the same guy that brought Marea. Santi is an upscale restaurant, it's expensive and showy, but I don't think it stuffy (unlike some of its competition in midtown). On the menu, I'd say Santi does seafood exceptionally well. The fluke carpaccio was perhaps the best rendition of the dish I ever had, topped with Uni and ikura, it takes cues from Japanese-style ingredients with Italian flavor. The tortellini is perhaps a platonic ideal of the pasta, cooked perfectly with delicious and rich cheese sauce. Service is exceptional, as you'd expect from a fancy restaurant, but wasn't super in your face. Overall it's a winner. Only caveat is this spot is quite expensive, so more of a special occasion restaurant. Definitely going on the list for potential spots to use the corporate card. read more

As fans of renowned Italian chef Michael White from his days at the helm of Marea and Convivio we were very excited to try his restaurant Santi in midtown Manhattan. It is located in an awkward space set back from 53rd street sandwiched between office buildings, but does have a little courtyard offering a charming outdoor setting. The main dining space however is a subterranean dining room with no windows, high ceilings & large curtains adorning the walls. The vibe is further diminished by the unpleasant disco soundtrack that floods the dining room. Service is friendly yet formal & bordering on overattentive. There is an extensive wine list of reasonably priced Italian & French bottles, and lists of intricate but overpriced cocktail creations ($30+). The menu is hit or miss with a strong focus on crudos, perfectly prepared pastas & seafood appetizers. But the entrées are quite underwhelming and lack flavor. The prices are high relative to the overall experience & the restaurant ultimately does not live up to the chef's reputation. Sadly it was quite a disappoint to us and doesn't warrant a return visit. But if you find yourself there, do not miss the mushroom pasta. It is epic. read more

Michael White's new spot doesn't miss! Santi is a gorgeous spot in midtown that specializes in seafood and pasta- two of my favorite things! Gorgeous bar on entry, and nice dining space inside. Definitely has an upscale feeling- perfect for date night. Service to match! Our waiter was really attentive and helpful with the menu. Started with the bread service (choice of sourdough, mushroom focaccia, or multigrain- or all three haha) with olive oil and butter. Sourdough was delish, I almost filled up on bread! We also ordered the Scallop crudi, so fresh and delicious. I loved the puffed buckwheat for a crunchy element. For mains we split the Busiate, Spaghetti Nero, and Faraona. The Busiate was the standout- so rich and delicious with a generous amount of truffles. Spaghetti was also delicious- the texture itself was amazing. Clams perfectly cooked. The guinea hen dish was okay, crispy skin and tender, but I'm not the biggest fowl fan and next to the pastas this paled in comparison. We also had a couple drinks- the espresso martini was my favorite, but the Cosmo is also good. Too full for dessert, but they brought out some pretty chocolates and candy. From the moment we arrived everything went smoothly. The hostess greeted us warmly and seated us at a nice table. We started with the Bluefin tuna carpaccio and the Quaglia, a grilled quail dish that was full of flavor and a great way to begin dinner. For our main courses we had the black truffle pasta and the vitello. Both were excellent, flavorful, and well balanced, and the wine paired beautifully with them. To finish we shared the chocolate soufflé tart, which was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. We went to theatre for a matinee and made a 530 reservation at Santi. We were meeting friends who went to another show, so we met at the bar Devore our reservation. The bar could not be cooler, such a great and welcoming bar and front desk area. The woman controlling the reservation area, so young, yet so competent and engaging. So smart to give a good impression right away. We had a cocktail at the bar waiting for our friends and when. They arrived a nice young woman took our drinks on a tray and we follower her to a nice round booth for four. We had a great serve, Michael, was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the menu, and right on spot about moving along the dinner. We probably over ordered, but what the heck. The bread and butter was a good start, three breads to choose from with either oil or a room temperature butter with sea salt, love the sea salt butter. For appetizers we had a salad, a steak tar tar and two pastas. I like salad, but not a lover, but this was fantastic, loved the fennel and while it was sligh5ly over dressed, the dressing was delicious. Beef tar tar was good not great, not sure why. Meat was excellent, but the sauce not memorable. For pastas we had a clam and the crab. Super pricey and very good, just lots and lots of butter. Wish my wife would let me use this much butter when we have company.it would make it much easier. For dinner we had the gnocchi, bolognese pasta, tortellini and the scallops. Didn't have the gnocchi, both pastas were very good. The pasta was perfectly al dente and love how the pasta and sauce per so hot for the entire meal. Warning pastas were very salty. Last was the scallop dish. My wife loves scallops and peas, so she was so excited for this dish. It had a pesto basil sauce, unfortunately, the pesto overpowered the peas and scallops. For dessert citrus sponge was over powered by the basil, but the chocolate soufflé was a nice cap Notes, chef provided a very nice mouche bouche and a small desert tastings, both were excellent. The service was so good, they recognized there was a vegan and substituted for her mouch bouche. It's so nice to go out for a fine meal. As a longtime fan of Chef Michael White since his days at Marea, Ai Fiori, and Osteria Morini, Santi feels like a beautiful continuation of his legacy, refined, soulful, and deeply satisfying. The pasta is flawless. The ragu Bolognese is rich and comforting, layered with depth. The squid ink pasta with clams is pure ocean elegance, especially paired with razor clam crudo, so fresh and delicately balanced. The crudo selections shine, the truffle tart is indulgent, and the foie gras is luxurious without being heavy. Service elevated the entire evening. Very disappointed. Our server was excellent. But for him, it would have been a complete wash. They do not care about your dietary restrictions (sulfite sensitivity). Everything from the beginning of the meal to the end of the dessert was amazing!! We started off with complimentary garlic foccacia and little crab tartlet. For drinks, the birthday girl got her Belvedere mixed drink, my other friend got an espresso Martini, my friend and I each mocktails: Sicilian Ice Tea and La Bambola. For appetizers, each of us ordered to share the insalata, mare, polipo, and terminal. I ate so much bread that I had to take my entree home. For our entrees, we had our individual orders. My friend ordered a gluten-free version of the orecchiette. The birthday girl ordered Astice. My other friend ordered the vitello and was impressed how she ate that entire dish in one sitting. Finally, yours truly ordered the garganelli. My dish was amazing, but I was too full from the appetizers and wanted to leave room for dessert. I had the pasta the next day and it was amazing. We made a reservation here at 5:00PM on a Thursday evening before a concert. One of our guests was wearing shorts, and unfortunately the hostess embarrassed him profusely by announcing loudly in front of the crowded bar that the restaurant has a dress code and does not allow shorts, but that they would make an exception "this one time." If they were going to let our guest in, why try to humiliate him first? We've been to many nicer restaurants in the city that handled a similar situation gracefully. Incredible birthday meal and we even got to meet Michael White himself! They were so incredibly kind and welcoming though we were the only people eating outdoors due to health needs. The service was perfectly orchestrated and I was so touched and impressed that chef included us in his rounds. I've been a big fan for over a decade! The food was fantastic and I can see a Michelin star in Santi's future. Prices are definitely high end but so is quality. Bread is its own course and we were able to choose from three different breads. And by choose, I mean, they recommended we try all three. It was served with the most delicious salted butter and high end olive oil. 9/10 Our amuse bouche was a potato leek soup with trout roe -9/10, silky, creamy, with a salty roe crunch - yum! Gamberi crudo - what to say! The shrimp were so fresh and sweet and went perfectly with the salty black caviar and delicate little mushrooms. It was beautifully presented and probably my favorite bite of the night. 10/10 Octopus with sun chokes - absolutely delicious but just not as exciting a flavor profile as some of the other dishes. Still it was perfectly cooked. 8.5/10 Tagliatelle with crab - this pasta is the stuff that dreams are made of. Perfect amount of heat from the Calabria chili, creamy and decadent. Noodles perfectly al dente. 10/10 Garganelli with ragu - to be honest, this dish was slightly disappointing for a Michael White pasta. It was still very good and competently made, but the ragu was just not my favorite.i feel it could have used a little more tomato paste to brighten up the flavor. I would order something else. 7/10 Chocolate plum souffle - this dessert will be dreamed of for years to come. It was so perfectly chocolatey and gooey but not too heavy or sweet. A must order. 10/10 The staff bright out a little birthday "cupcake" with a candle on the house. It was also 10/10 incredible, with a shortcake base, cheesecake frosting, sprinkles, and a lemon white chocolate shell "wrapper." If I wasn't overstuffed I could eat half a dozen of these. We also got petit fours with our check. Accessibility: the outdoor patio is right out front and off of a public courtyard so you're not in the street. There was a large umbrella that kept us completely dry when it started to drizzle. No heater but fine for us and the hostess took the initiative to call so we knew to bring layers, A+ for service). No steps to get inside but the door is hard to open independently. There is an automatic door opener from the inside and probably outside too just obstructed by decorations. The host stand is right in front of the glass door though so someone came to assist me immediately. The bar is street level and to get to either indoor dining level you need to take an elevator half a floor up or down. The bathrooms are on the lower level and I had no trouble navigating. The hostess was kind enough to accompany me and open doors throughout. There is an adapted restroom that is fully accessible and beautifully designed, but slightly smaller than desired so it does take some maneuvering to close and open the door if you have a larger chair. Still very doable and I was able to independently access everything I needed to. Overall 100% recommend. read more

I honestly have some mixed feelings here - definitely a spot worth trying if you're a fan of Michael White or want some variety in your Midtown dining spots (the interior is absolutely gorgeous!), but a couple snafus leave me feeling not super excited to return. I work nearby, and some coworkers had gone to the front desk with an inquiry, to which the response they received was "we're fine dining" - not the friendliest. That being said, I was still eager to try Santi and went in with my expectations set for a fine dining restaurant, especially given that emphasis. This was where my experience fell a bit flat and a couple things took away from my experience. Firstly, everyone in my group of ~8 received their drinks around the same time, except for me. Not a big deal, except I still hadn't received my drink even after the appetizers were served and I had to follow up to ask for it. We came on a weekday for lunch, so the restaurant wasn't especially busy at this time. Secondly, in my section of the table, I was seated with 3 males. When the servers came around to offer a refill on the olive focaccia, my 3 male coworkers were offered more but not myself, even though all our plates were empty. Even gender aside, that's still a demerit in my book. Overall, I didn't have a bad experience here. The food wasn't mindblowing, but it was a solid new Midtown spot for some pasta. My gripes are that if you're going to lean in hard to the fine dining status (and charge fine dining prices!), I'll have fine dining expectations - unfortunately, I was disappointed on that front. read more

Chef Michael White has done it again, creating an absolutely stellar restaurant. We came to this location 15 years ago when it was Alto and we're happy to return to see his new stuff! The diver scallop appetizer was really incredible, prepared in a way I've never seen. And the sardines were also a great starter with the citrus and pistachio. Following it up with the grilled octopus and warm seafood salad was a great way to ease into the pasta round. Obviously their fresh pasta is gonna be killer like it always is, we went with the spaghetti Nero (squid ink spaghetti) and risotto with prawns, both amazing, then finished with the Lobster with chanterelles for the main course. Not much to complain about with Santi. The space is gorgeous (first floor more dramatic than second floor, may request that in the future,) service was really great and the food was excellent. Got the salad, which was one of the best in memory - the Gouda and chicory played perfectly against each other, the red shrimp crudo with caviar which was light and decadent at the same time and three of the pastas: red shrimp, mushroom, and crab. All were perfect. The crowning touch was the bread service which is so rarely offered anymore, the little bite sized treats at the end of dinner and the amuse bouche soup at the start of the meal (mind-blowing.). My one complaint was that the air was on all night and blowing directly down on the booth side of the table. Pretty cold on a 37 degree day. Otherwise, flawless. read more
