A true local gem! Santoro's has been around for over 60 years. Sal, the owner, goes out of his way to know his customers and places quality above all else. Their pastrami sub is my go to, but dropped in recently and tried their cold Italian sub. Their cold cuts are top tier, but I strongly believe that their hot subs are second to none. Despite the sandwiches being packed with meat and tons of flavor, I'm gonna have to take some stars away on this review. Since my last review, I've returned multiple times and have specifically asked for no oil in my sandwich every single time. Never fails, it's soaking drenched. My bread is soggy from all the oil. Decent sandwich shop but nothing spectacular. Coworker had heard good things so we decided to give it a try! Parked in the back lot which was easy. This place is pretty no frills- no real decor just sandwiches. Asked the worker which sandwiches were the most popular. She said the pastrami so I got that with a bag of chips. Coworker got the same with a deli salad, coleslaw was out. Overall is was ok - super messy but not as tasty as I thought it'd be. Service was friendly. This place is an absolute GEM! They get their cannoli shells from their birthplace in Sicily. That speaks volumes! The meatball subs.. My God, I feel I've gone to heaven! I like getting provolone on mine, but to each their own. Love the owner, Sal, what a great guy. Everyone who works there seems like "family". I cannot wait to go again. I have traveled in the area for years and had never run into Santoro's Subs, when I landed at Burbank Airport this week I did a Yelp search and it came up and was close so we quickly drove to the site after seeing the pictures and reviews, so glad that we did. The interior has limited space for indoor eating but they do have a section of the wall for bar stool seating. We were greeted by two very friendly employees, during our interaction they mention that the deli has been open for over 60 years. I am not sure how I missed this place over the many years of traveling through this area but so glad we stopped by. The sandwiches, very full of meat and plenty of toppings to your liking. I had the Italian, with mayo and mustard, you do need to request these but on top of this you also get a mountain of chopped tomato, pickles and onions, you can add salt, pepper, oil and oregano. We also ordered the meat ball, they looked home made with a great red sauce and toppings. Glad that I only ordered the small it was very filling, the bread was soft and had a great taste from the first bite to the last. I have already shared my experience with my local family and friends. Oh man. I've never had to write a review like this. I feel bad about it, but I have to be honest. I came in, on a day I was taking a class nearby so I was in a hurry with a short lunch break. I saw all the great reviews. It was close by, and a sub sandwich sounded great. I came in and was deciding on which sandwich to order. The young female staff member was friendly with a smile. So just as I decided on a sandwich and she went to grab the bread, we both saw it, inside the bread box. We both froze. A roach was moving on the window. She looked at me, I looked back at her. She went to the back to get a manager and he came behind the counter and tossed some bread out, disposed of the roach, had her get a fresh batch out, then she proceeded to make me a sandwich. The entire time she made it, it was debating in my head if I should walk out or be sympathetic and get it anyway. I was sweating. She seemed empathetic but the manager didn't say anything to me. I stood there when she brought the sandwich to me, hesitated but paid for it anyway. By the time I got to my car, I threw it out because I could stomach the idea of actually eating it. I don't know if that is normal for this place, but I don't intend to find out, and I finished the rest of the class on an empty stomach. read more

Cool spot. Simple, order from the counter place with a few seats inside and a couple tables outside. It's been around for 69 years. Staff were very nice. Quality ingredients. They chop up the toppings so it ends up being messy to eat, but very tasty. I'd recommend. read more

Well, I went: twenty years living in Burbank, I finally checked out Santoro's after Rockstar Eater put them on a pedestal. The result? Good not great. The floors were dirty, the woman helping me wasn't very friendly, and the sandwich my wife got (pepper steak) was a soggy mess and flavorless. My pastrami was much better than her sub. Here's a tip: a lot of the negative reviews I've seen had to do with the pepper steak sandwich--either retrain your people on how to make it properly, or cut it from your menu entirely. The cannoli was the best part: if they were a cannoli shop instead of a sub shop, I'd give them four stars. Oh yeah parking blows, and Rockstar Eater is a goddamn liar. read more

First and last time coming here. Disappointing. Dirty tables and even dirtier floors. The two employees were ok. The hot pastrami sandwich was completely underwhelming. The quality and freshest of the meat definitely wasn't there. Made the huge mistake of getting the sandwich loaded with pickles, tomatoes, and peppers. Overkill. It made the sandwich to acidic. What kicks it down to 3 stars is the staff 2 people making sandwiches and 1 on the register all three had the personality of a wet sock . kick down to one star the bread is stale tasted like it was from the original 1958 batch of bread they had plus ice cold the only way to enjoy the sandwich which we didn't enjoy was by eating the cold cuts without the bread take a look at my photo. After spending $4k at the vet nextdoor, I needed a fairly priced meal, so I stopped by since it was right there. It's a no frills shop, larger inside than you'd imagine, with counters around the walls for eating and a few tables outside on the sidewalk. Not much ambience, but that's not necessarily needed at a sub shop. The menu is quite sizable, but I knew I wanted a hot sub and do love me a peppered steak, so that's what I ordered and ended up getting to with everything on it. The service was super efficient and pleasant and I was ready to eat in no time. The large sub was a healthy-sized portion, so you're not leaving hungry. However, there really wasn't much flavor in any part. The bread was just bread with no essence of its own, the pepper was nice but the steak was mostly bland even with the loaded toppings. All-in-all, it filled me up and was just ok. I'd try the place again and go for the Italian sub and probably skip it being loaded. read more

Stopped in today and I'm glad that I did. I had the large Italian sandwich, complete with Molinari, Italian salami, cappicola and Wisconsin provolone (per their menu) and I asked for mortadella on there, too. I told the lady behind the counter that it was my first time there so give me the full treatment. And did she ever! The sandwich is perfectly made, with the tomatoes and pickles diced on top. They have dressing on the sandwich, but it wasn't drowning my bread either. I had some macaroni salad on the side to top it off and it was excellent. A couple of other customers heard that it was my first time there, and they said they'd been going there since the 70's. That is all the proof I need about how much of a staple in the community this spot is. My only issue was parking, but when the food is good, I'll be more than happy to look the other way. I was just told about this place. I wanted to try it. They said the owner was from Boston but when I went there, I asked them that and they told me that the owner from Boston sold it to someone else so there's a different owner now the only reason I asked is because I'm originally from Boston And I thought it would probably be good. anyways, I normally get my sandwiches at DeFranko's, which is the best I've ever had so I wanted to give this place a try. It definitely does not compare to DeFranko's DeFranco's.
