Open since 1956 this is definitely one of the most famous sandwich shops in Burbank and probably the valley as a whole. It's a traditional Italian sub shop in that it is designed to grab and go, but they do have tables inside as well as out if you choose to dine in. My server was very friendly and everything that I ordered was made really fast and well. Pricing is also fair. They don't have a dedicated parking lot, but I was able to find a free street spot right in front. The menu is not very large, but it has most of the sub shop classics on it. For my first visit, I chose the Steak And Egg and the Roasted Turkey. The Steak and Egg was pretty good and a very unique combo so I definitely would recommend. The Roasted Turkey was also nice and I would just recommend asking for no tomatoes because they really do give you a ton. I say this is someone who loves tomatoes. I ordered a large Italian sub today , that wasn't so large. There was more bread than tasty salami, cheese and condiments. The diced pickles and tomatoes made it good. This Santoro's sub shop unfortunately, isn't as good as the Santoro's located in Lowell, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, we decided to give Santoro's another chance after our first disappointing experience, and the second visit was essentially the same. The quality issues we mentioned previously had not improved, which is why we feel the one-star rating is still appropriate. Regarding the owner/manager's response to our previous review: we were not "promoting" or comparing Santoro's to another restaurant. We simply mentioned that there were some similarities between the businesses. They are completely different restaurants, and our review was specifically about our experience at Santoro's. What was most disappointing is that instead of simply addressing the concerns about the food and our experience, part of the response seemed focused on telling us what we should or should not include in our review. Since my last review, I've returned multiple times and have specifically asked for no oil in my sandwich every single time. Never fails, it's soaking drenched. My bread is soggy from all the oil. I've never been here before, so I decided to try it out for lunch. First off, this place is kind of disguising. As soon as you walk in the door, you're met with dirt and grime. The tables and floors were littered with crumbs and relishes from previous dine-in customers. It's evident that cleanliness is not a priority at this place. That being said, the sandwiches are VERY GOOD! I tried the turkey sub with everything and it was almost perfect- definitely could have used a few more slices of meat. Speaking of which, the deli meats in the front display case (the ones they use for the sandwiches) are uncovered and lying next to a tray of uncovered Cannolis. It kind of grossed me out, but those cannolis looked damn good- so I got one anyways. It was delicious. If the food wasn't so damn good, I definitely would never come back here. Decent sandwich shop but nothing spectacular. Coworker had heard good things so we decided to give it a try! Parked in the back lot which was easy. This place is pretty no frills- no real decor just sandwiches. Asked the worker which sandwiches were the most popular. She said the pastrami so I got that with a bag of chips. A true local gem! Santoro's has been around for over 60 years. Sal, the owner, goes out of his way to know his customers and places quality above all else. Their pastrami sub is my go to, but dropped in recently and tried their cold Italian sub. Their cold cuts are top tier, but I strongly believe that their hot subs are second to none. I went to your website first, but there was no way to contact you through an email. So Yelp is it. Around 12:15 today, Friday, August 21, I came in and ordered the Large Italian. It looked fine. When I got home and took my first bite, there was no flavor. You could barely taste the meat, the cheese. You could taste the pickle mix. Why was it so bland? I realized the roll you used today was so stale. It was chewy stale and took over each bite. On the second half of the sandwich, I removed the roll completely and had just the meat, cheese and pickle and OH MY WHAT A DIFFERENCE. The incredible flavors. I have traveled in the area for years and had never run into Santoro's Subs, when I landed at Burbank Airport this week I did a Yelp search and it came up and was close so we quickly drove to the site after seeing the pictures and reviews, so glad that we did. The interior has limited space for indoor eating but they do have a section of the wall for bar stool seating. We were greeted by two very friendly employees, during our interaction they mention that the deli has been open for over 60 years. I am not sure how I missed this place over the many years of traveling through this area but so glad we stopped by. The sandwiches, very full of meat and plenty of toppings to your liking. I had the Italian, with mayo and mustard, you do need to request these but on top of this you also get a mountain of chopped tomato, pickles and onions, you can add salt, pepper, oil and oregano. We also ordered the meat ball, they looked home made with a great red sauce and toppings. Glad that I only ordered the small it was very filling, the bread was soft and had a great taste from the first bite to the last. I have already shared my experience with my local family and friends. Oh man. I've never had to write a review like this. I feel bad about it, but I have to be honest. I came in, on a day I was taking a class nearby so I was in a hurry with a short lunch break. I saw all the great reviews. It was close by, and a sub sandwich sounded great. I came in and was deciding on which sandwich to order. The young female staff member was friendly with a smile. So just as I decided on a sandwich and she went to grab the bread, we both saw it, inside the bread box. We both froze. A roach was moving on the window. She looked at me, I looked back at her. She went to the back to get a manager and he came behind the counter and tossed some bread out, disposed of the roach, had her get a fresh batch out, then she proceeded to make me a sandwich. The entire time she made it, it was debating in my head if I should walk out or be sympathetic and get it anyway. I was sweating. She seemed empathetic but the manager didn't say anything to me. I stood there when she brought the sandwich to me, hesitated but paid for it anyway. By the time I got to my car, I threw it out because I could stomach the idea of actually eating it. I don't know if that is normal for this place, but I don't intend to find out, and I finished the rest of the class on an empty stomach. read more

I was very excited to try this sandwich shop. I've been going to Giamela's down the street for about 45 years and it's really great! I've never tried Santoros and I was really looking forward to it. It was 100° outside so I was going to eat a sandwich and a soda there, then get another sandwich to go so a could try a few different sandwiches. I was very hot and I simply wanted to wash my face with cold water and use the restroom before I ate. There was nobody in the restaurant and they wouldn't let me use the restroom. They said they could give me a napkin! It's the law in California for all restaurants to have an accessible restroom for their customers, especially with disability access. So I didn't order a drink or a second sandwich and I just said I'd take the sandwich to go. Then they charged me extra to use a credit card! So, needless to say, I'll never go back. I'll just continue to go to Giamela's where the sandwiches are better and cheaper and they have a restroom for their customers. In fairness, the sandwich was good. Not $18 good and not as good as the same sandwich at Giamela's but I can't knock the food other than the price. My expected 5 star visit turned into a 2 star visit very quickly. I asked the kid working there why I couldn't use the bathroom and he said, I don't know! Lol, I DON'T KNOW, BRILLIANT! Well, I went: twenty years living in Burbank, I finally checked out Santoro's after Rockstar Eater put them on a pedestal. The result? Good not great. The floors were dirty, the woman helping me wasn't very friendly, and the sandwich my wife got (pepper steak) was a soggy mess and flavorless. My pastrami was much better than her sub. Here's a tip: a lot of the negative reviews I've seen had to do with the pepper steak sandwich--either retrain your people on how to make it properly, or cut it from your menu entirely. This place does Italians pretty standardly and as far as I understand, they've been open since the 50s, which means that they have survived a recession as well as the pandemic. So it must be top-notch. Here's my prediction if you decide to patronize this establishment: You're gonna walk in and you're going to order an Italian sub, size large. You're going to grab a bag of chips and order a drink. There may be somebody in line with you to chat with, but once you get your food a few seconds later, you will either eat inside or outside on the sidewalk café. However, there really wasn't much flavor in any part. The bread was just bread with no essence of its own, the pepper was nice but the steak was mostly bland even with the loaded toppings.
