Explorers plate with tri tip, chicken, cornbread waffle, and beans
    Merrick C.

The vibe was great and the decor was super cute, but the food did not stay warm and was somewhat dry. I ordered the explorers plate with the tri-tip and chicken breast along with a side of beans and the cornbread waffle. I came at an off peak time so the food seemed microwaved and most of it had gotten cold midway through the plate. Both the beef and the cornbread were very dry. The slice of bread was a very boring wonder bread style piece. The chicken breast was tender and the vegetables were a nice addition. Service was very friendly and I would be interested in trying this place again when they are busy enough to have fresher BBQ.

    Extremely dry brisket, inedible.

When Matt and Scouts Honor had its own location in 2021, the brisket and ribs were magical--as good as anything I had growing up in Texas. We were excited for Scouts Honor to team up with Basecamp and have been recurring customers for years. Unfortunately we have experienced a steep quality drop over the past 2 years. Brisket used to fall apart with a fork, ribs would melt in your mouth. These days, the meat quality is very inconsistent, often dry and tough. This has been the case too often to call it an off-night. Tonight was the most egregious case--I could not eat more than a couple bites of the brisket, as it was nearly leather in toughness (see pic). The chicken was equally dry and while it pained us we threw away both and had a cereal dinner. Unfortunately I think we've given this place enough chances and we're moving on. I hope at some point Scouts Honor can return to its former glory.

    More dead links....

A miserable bbq dinner was picked up here!!! $100.00 out the window! Look at the pictures and you be the judge. Cooking was done to until the ingredients died. The fat seemed to have some meat attached but not much. Salty and dry ... I'd be embarrassed if I'd cooked this. The pit master should be run out of town! No interaction when they were contacted. You should have the HONOR to make good on this!!!!!!

Love this place. The brisket and pulled pork are delicious. The brisket with fries and queso is a crowd-pleaser. You can bring your dog and sit outside on the patio.

    Brisket Caesar salad sub chicken.

I'm actually really sad about leaving this review. This place used to be incredible. large serving sizes, Excellent food but since they've hit their new location, it seems everything is gone Downhill. portion sizes are very sad and pathetic and quality Has drastically decreased. I used to order from them a few times a week at their old location and now I probably will not order from here again. This is my $15 brisket Caesar salad substitute for chicken (chicken was SO dry). And it is meager. It is so small and for $15 I could make a family size chicken Caesar salad that's literally the same quality. Super unfortunate and it makes me really sad. I was hopeful they'd made their epic comeback only to be entirely disappointed.

Trooper Tri-Tip Sandwich onion rings Mac & queso, chicken sandwich

We planned our dinner to coincide with Scouts Honor and it was great. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich with Mac and queso, and the chicken club with onion rings. The brioche with the tri-tip was exactly as I'd hoped and the toasted bread on the chicken was perfectly done. The Mac was rich and al dente and the rings were well done as we'd requested. The staff is super friendly and we nabbed a table for two outside which had a lovely atmosphere. Definitely can't wait to try other items on the menu! As an fyi we've enjoyed the smash cheeseburger previously and I look forward to having it again.

Piotato salad - fresh with dill and not overly salty like most potato salad. But it wasn't my favorite side.

I'll be back for wings and to try other dishes! Highly recommend the food here! Hidden gem! Yum!!!

BBQ Smoked Brisket, BBQ Smoked Pork Ribs, French Fries, Potato Salad

Scout's Honor BBQ lives in a weird place in the LA BBQ scene. It's not as sad as oven made BBQ, but it also doesn't sit as a peer among the craft BBQ spots like Moo's Craft in Lincoln Heights. Somehow, the BBQ has a hint of real smoke, but it's pretty weak. There is a lot of seasoning on the brisket. The point of the brisket actually tastes pretty good. But it isn't deeply seasoned with the clean smoke you'd expect from craft BBQ. The flat is equally seasoned, but is a bit dry. The seasoning is good, but it's different. Reads more like a twist on pot roast than an actual BBQ brisket. It's really weird, because you can physically see them smoking the meat on a Southern Pride smoker during the day. Bludso's Bar and Q, my second favorite spot in town, uses similar smokers to Scout's. But the smoke and seasoning is way better there. The ribs at Scout's Honor taste like they hit it with a hint of smoke and basted in BBQ sauce while they cooked. It's like oven baked ribs that have some smoke flavor. The potato salad was just straight up bland. The fries were fine. Overall, the place is fine if you want BBQ that's a step above the oven-cooked variety you'd get at Ribs USA. The smoke flavor was there, but it was bitter. Tasted like green wood. The meats were fatty, but dry. Seems like it had been cut ahead of time and oxidized for an hour or so. The service was great, though. The team there is super nice. The ambience is great. I want them to win. Burbank needs a great craft BBQ spot. But they've got some work to do before they join the ranks of the best BBQ joints in Los Angeles.

At first sight, the place is decorated like a shipwreck-turned-tropical-turnto. Very nice. That's about as high a praise as I'll go. The drinks were average as Southern California tiki goes. The grog was not made with a grog mix. The rum barrel was tasty enough - though served in a hurricane glass. I'm no snob, but tiki is attention to detail. What I care about most is what I didn't get: great service. Staff are friendly.. when they notice you. Hey, I'm a regular at a different tiki bar. Priority service is a tangential bonus. Staff doesn't ignore newcomers for my sake. I wish it was the same here. 3/5 stars. I want it to be great. It's just good.

First, their cafe de olla is absolutely delicious. This remains one of the only places where I genuinely enjoy ordering cafe de olla. Second, their food is incredible. They serve excellent portions, everything tastes fresh, and the food is just so good. I've had their taquitos and chilaquiles, and both were delicious. The only downside is that every time I've come, there has usually been a bit of a wait, especially because the restaurant itself is pretty small with limited seating. The inside is cute, but small, so we usually end up sitting outside. This is where their Monrovia location does have the advantage because it has much more space. Parking can also be tricky. Good luck finding a spot close enough where you don't have to walk far. We usually end up parking in the residential area around the corner. That said, the staff are wonderful and always try to be as accommodating as possible despite how busy they are. Highly recommend this place if you're okay with possibly waiting a bit for seating. I got to taste my friend's huevos divorciados and the sauce was so delicious. My machaca was different than what I have had at other restaurants, a little on the dry side, but I enjoyed it. Loved the rice and beans it came with! Another highlight was the Cafe de Olla itself! I think I downed like 4 cups of it, it was so delicious. Service here was fantastic. Highly recommend!

There wasn't any noticeable music during our visit, which made it easy to have a conversation. Parking is essentially valet only, so that made getting there a bit more difficult. It's a nice gesture, but afterward they offer to sell it in a souvenir frame which felt a little salesy. I started with the house Pinot Noir, which was smooth, easy to drink, and reasonably priced compared to the rest of the wine list. For food, I ordered the 8 oz Prime Rib cooked medium rare along with the garlic cheesy bread for the table. The garlic bread was easily my favorite part of the meal. It had a soft, cheesy interior with a crisp, golden crust, and the cheese and garlic were well balanced without feeling too heavy. The prime rib had good flavor and was cooked to the requested temperature. It was juicy overall, though a few bites were a little chewier than I expected. Still, it was an enjoyable steak and satisfying for the portion size. I would recommend this as a date night or special occasion category rather than an everyday dinner. It's on the expensive side, but between the atmosphere, attentive service, and decent food, it's a place I may consider returning to when celebrating something.
