We were in town for a convention and found this coffee shop within walking distance! It's located right by the Westin which makes it super convenient and easy to get to. I tried the Lavender Basil latte and really liked it. It was a little weird seeing basil leaves in my coffee but it added a fresh twist. We also ordered a couple of their bagel sandwiches and both were solid. Nothing extraordinary but satisfying. The service was friendly and the space is bright and spacious. This Santos is located in Uptown, which is most convenient for me. I like how sunny the place is and the fact that there's plenty of parking around. I got a blackberry fresca and it was delicious, not too sweet but still very flavorful. It was also light and refreshing, ideal for the hot Summer months ahead. Since this location is attached to a hotel, you never know who you may meet in there. I chatted with a pilot for a few minutes then got some work done on my laptop. Lovely higher end location next to the Westin and Texas de Brazil, lacks care in food handling safety precautions. Today 1/24/2025 at 2:00 PM, was our first visit. When we arrived both female baristas were sitting at the counter eating Chick-fil-A, wiping their mouths with each bite and all I could think was "I hope they wash their hands". I took a step back into the lobby of the hotel and waited for someone else to go in front of me and my husband to see if they would wash their hands after putting down their food and before making a customers drink. Not only did these girls fail to wash their hands before they made the customers drinks, but the girl making the drink also swiped her face and swooped back her hair before grinding and pulling the espresso shot. I did not order from this store and walked out. Food safe handling policies strictly enforce hand washing after an employee has eaten. Also, If I was the owner of this store I would be so upset if my employees were eating a meal on the clock, behind my counter. Especially a competitor's branded food while sitting at my cash register. Very gross and very unprofessional, I will never visit a Santos again, complete disregard to public health safety by not washing their hands after eating. read more

Friendly service! The place was a little tough to find... it's attached to the back of the Westin hotel. I thought it might be in the Westin lobby, but it's not. I tried an avocado toast which was very nice - very generous portion. Black coffee was nice and strong. Oh! Had a Nutella crepe as well which was a hit. Chai tea with almond milk which I am told the chai spices are locally sourced. Very nice spicy blend - not bitter. I came back for a couple more over my stay. Açaí yogurt bowl with berries - a little pricey at $10 for the portion but it did contain a Nice serving of berries. Coconut, chia sprinkled and a light drizzle of honey- some places tend to be heavy handed with the honey. I really loved it and would order again. read more

Upon entering the employees welcomed me with friendly smiles! They gave me ample time to look at the menu since it was my first time. They also gave me a few suggestions. I am not a coffee fan so I decided on their chai tea. I also ordered their blueberry muffins that was suggested by the barista and I added on a banana. Santos is pleasantly staffed, but with too few to handle the hotel convention and weekend traveler load. The weekend morning lines were avoided due to schedule conflicts. With today's smaller but slowly moving wad of customers, I didn't bother ordering a hot breakfast sandwich. A slow morning finds me with good coffee and one of last week's pastries. It's a corner shop at the meeting room end of the Birmingham Westin. Atmosphere is dependent upon the hotel crowd and/or the college football crowds. Otherwise, the "Uptown" (a.k.a. cultural) district is a bit dead... like the pastry. read more

Came here needing a caffeine fix during a weeklong conference. The first time, I ordered an iced mint latte. It wasn't very sweet, which is good; but it didn't taste like mint or espresso, which is bad. On my second trip, I got the Cafe Maya. What's not to love about Santos Coffee? It's located in the former Octane Coffee location in Uptown, connected to the Westin. I was worried that the parking situation might be complicated, but there were plenty of parking spots near by. There was ample seating inside, with a mix of tables, a bar and a lounge area. The service was a 10/10. Leah was so helpful and suggested the Lavender Basil Latte. It sounded just out of the box enough to be great, and it was. It was a little bit sweet, but not overpowering at all. The fresh basil was unique and refreshing. Leah gave me a punch card, so I can get a punch every time I go. After I finished my coffee at the bar, she even made sure that enjoyed it and even called me by my name (which she knew from the punchcard), which was very thoughtful. I met a friend at the Santos in Uptown Birmingham and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. i liked how open the shop was and the aesthetic was calming and chill. I ordered a Cafe Caramel and a sausage, egg, and cheese croissant and my friend got the Cafe Mocha and a bacon, egg, and cheese croissant. I would say I enjoyed the coffee and the croissant was delightful. It was cooked well and came out warm so I appreciate that. The coffee was good as well. As someone who isn't an avid coffee drinker it doesn't take much to impress me, so if you just make it sweet and creamy I'll probably have no problem with it. Overall the experience was good. Wait time was minimal. I only think that the price for my food was a bit high for what I got. Overall great place to enjoy a coffee and chat with a friend. read more

My sister works at the BJCC and raves about this place. So I finally got to go while I was at a conference. The line was super long but the three baristas worked their tails off to keep things running and I was super impressed. I went with a lavender latte. The coffee was smooth and the lavender was subtle yet perfectly balanced. Definitely recommend. They do have food options which looked tasty- although their sandwiches were priced a little high. This cafe is inside the Westin hotel! The location is convenient and they have a cute menu (Nutella latte seemed interesting!) but the guy working just didn't come off welcoming or friendly. The only person working was mopping the floors and then changed out the bags in the trash bins and then proceeded to ask me what I wanted to drink without washing his hands after... yikes. He didn't even attempt to use hand sanitizer or wear gloves, nothing. That was pretty gross and unhygienic to see. So I didn't bother to order and won't ever go back. Free wifi for customers. Comfortable seating and plenty of plugs for laptops. Staff were super friendly and attentive. I worked out of this shop for two days and during that time, I tried: 1. Hot chocolate-- First off, let me say, they used milk in the hot chocolate. This may seem like a small detail, but a disturbing number of coffee shops use water in their hot chocolate and that is not okay. Not Santos. Santos put milk in the hot chocolate like they care. I appreciate that. 10/10. Would order again. 2. Cold brew--The cold brew was good and would be great if you are a fast drinker, but it came in one of those clear cups that have no insulation, so if you are like me and leisurely sipping for an hour or so, the ice will melt and the cup will sweat. Not my favorite. 4/10. 3. Cafe Nutella--yaaaaasssss. This was by far my favorite. I absolutely loved it. Normally, I would have tried more items, but I ended up just getting this drink again because it was that good. 10/10. Would order again. read more
