I LOVE Sapa House! They have the best happy hour times in the area ($3.50 hot sake!)! The food is incredibly flavorful. They're located in The Wilson Building, a very old building that in the early 1900s was the tallest structure in Dallas. They have an outdoor seating area with a window to the inside. The only complaint about that is sometimes you have folks smoking cigars (or more fun things) and the smell can permeate into the restaurant. Ended up needing to catch something to eat that was close to the hotel... just had limited time. This was a short, but cold walk away. I parked my rental car in front of Sapa House. It was the only street parking that I could find. I was in downtown Dallas to see the cattle statues and giant eyeball. I paid for parking at the meter and headed over to the latter take some photos. I eyed (pun intended) having lunch at Sapa House. It's a Vietnamese restaurant that also has sushi and sashimi, and a bar. It opens at 11 am. It was 10:30 am when I had parked. I was here on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It was -7°C that day with a brisk wind. I managed to take photos of the eyeball and walked back to my car. I sat there for ten minutes before I headed into the restaurant. It opens at 11 am. It is rare for me to have lunch so early. I walked in and was promptly seated. It was nice to come here at a quiet hour. I had a friendly, helpful server. I wanted beef pho. It's perfect on a cold day. I asked how large the small size was. A small size is equivalent to a large in the GTA. I went with the small. I also ordered dumplings. You have the choice of ordering them steamed or fried. I asked whether fried meant that they were fully immersed in oil or pan-fried. He didn't understand the difference at first. I explained it in a different way. He got it and said that it was immersed. I don't like them that way and went with steamed. The steamed dumplings came out first. They are essentially a steamed version of potstickers. The filling was yummy. I loved the dipping sauce accompanying them. The beef pho came next. It was outstanding! Naturally, in Texas, the beef brisket is smoked and is melt-in-your-mouth-without-chewing tender. It was like having barbeque in an amazing, fragrant soup broth. It was a nice spin to traditional beef pho. The rare beef was perfect. It wasn't too fat. It wasn't too lean. Perfect! The beef balls are larger than the norm, but the place slices them in half. Yum! I added the mint and bean sprouts. Yum! My server, Bryan, was great. I had accidentally left my hat and mitts on the bench when I headed to the restroom. When I came out, he let me know that he had them and gave them to me before I headed out the door. I was so thankful! It's a cozy restaurant. The benches have throw pillows. They supported my lower back nicely during my entire meal. It does get busy at noon. I'd recommend either coming early like I did or do a later lunch.
