I had seen this restaurant before while in the area and decided to give it a try after noticing online that they make hand-pulled noodles. Our waiter was very welcoming and friendly and gave us some great recommendations since it was our first time dining there. We tried the following dishes: Soup Dumplings (Xiao Long Bao), Gong Bao Pork, and Stir-Fried La Mian with Vegetables. My favorite dishes were the beef dish and the soup dumplings. I would definitely order those again. It was also really nice to see the chef hand-pull the noodles right behind our table, which added to the whole experience. We had the fortune tonight of eating at Royal China restaurant. It was a total mess up. Our waitress complained that she had too many tables so she couldn't provide Service. We ordered steam dumplings, which came out ice cold, vegetable egg foo Young, that was so salty it was hardly able to be eaten. The best part of the meal was a green tea ice cream. When I spoke to George, the owner, he said "so sorry" and swept it off. I honestly don't expect to pay these prices for such horrendous service and low quality food. Came here for my birthday and we had a really nice and accommodating waitress. We first ordered the Soup dumplings and Pork Baozi steamed buns. The soup dumplings were really yummy and flavorful. The steamed buns were ok. More so on the soggy side with very little filling, but was still pretty good. I got the wide stir fried noodles, which was really yummy especially if you like noodles. They were chewy and very flavorful. My parents got the happy family, which they enjoyed, and my bf got the General Kao's. Now, that was delicious and crispy. Came here on a Saturday at 8 pm and got seated immediately! We ordered Dan Dan mian, chicken dumplings, chicken fried rice, and egg drop soup. The Dan Dan mian was so amazing and delicious! It was cold and had nuts, the sauce was so sweet and rich. The chicken fried rice was too salty so I didn't enjoy it that much. The dumplings were also kind of dry. Best Chinese food in Dallas (or North Dallas)! Take out is the best way to enjoy these wonderful dishes! Order online and your food will be ready in 30 minutes (or less)! Dine in is also enjoyable but be prepared to wait about 45 minutes to an hour or more during peak hours. Apparently this place has quite a history, a Dallas pedigree of sorts, and they are "famous" for their dumplings. But I just don't get it. Not worth the wait or the price. The best thing by far was the Sichuan spicy fish. I ate the whole thing with no rice, I was just loving the spice and the flavor on this. The rest of the food was not good. Egg rolls were mostly wrapping and grease. The famous dumplings were fine. I had one of each (veg, shrimp, pork, and chicken). Good but not memorable. Chicken, asparagus, and king oyster mushroom - everything was cooked okay, but it was so bland. Crispy pork tenderloin was the same - cooked well but no flavor. And the scallion pancakes... I am so offended by the horrible scalllion pancakes that were not scallion pancakes. Scallion pancakes are more like crepes. Delicate and light and a little savory. I've been here a few times now and have always had a good meal. Some of the food I am not too familiar with, so I can't review on the stuff I haven't tried, but from what I've had, it's pretty good. The Thin Dan-Dan Mian is my favorite! I didn't think I would like cold noodles, but it's so good! I did not like the Three-Cup dishes, but I think that is just a personal preference. I have yet to try their Baozi which sound delicious. The dumplings were very flavorful and I liked the different color wrappers. I also like how they are colored naturally and not with food coloring. Service here is hit or miss. We have had excellent service here and absolutely horrible service on other nights. So I only docked one star for that. The restaurant can get pretty busy, especially on weekends. Make sure to plan ahead on busy nights, although the wait for a table hasn't been too long. read more

Of all the Chinese restaurants available in North Dallas, we still choose and recommend Royal China for the breadth of their menu, quality, freshness and flavor of every dish, and fantastic service. Starting with delicious Xiao Long Bao soup dumplings and Bucks Spare Ribs, we moved on to Ants Climbing Trees (Ma Yi Shang Shu), a classic Sichuan dish of vermicelli cooked with minced pork, in fermented chili sauce, with garlic and green onions, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, crispy bite-size shrimp tossed with green onion, basil, garlic, and jalapeño, and Sichuan Green Beans, stir-fried with garlic, mushrooms, and minced pork. We opted for one order of white rice and one of fried rice with our entrées. The restaurant is almost always packed if you don't have a reservation, but the vibe is relaxed and casual without being loud. No dipping sauce just presented in a wicker basket steamed. Next up the chicken lettuce wraps. Pale bite size chicken with hints of mushroom and onion with lettuce leaves on the side. We went on a weeknight and there was no wait for a table! Our group got Xiao Long Baos and pork dumplings to start. Everything is shareable/family style here. I was impressed by the quality of the dumplings and how quick the service was. They have hand pulled noodles and you can watch them pull the noodles and make the dumplings. WE ARE DONE! Today I visited Royal China and had one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. We've continued to patronize Royal China over the years because the food has traditionally been very good, even though the customer service has often left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, this visit was different. We called in our order and picked it up expecting the same quality we've enjoyed in the past, but the food fell far short of expectations. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken, chicken dumplings, and a combo lo mein. The Kung Pao Chicken looked more like peanut soup than a traditional Kung Pao dish. It was extremely spicy but lacked any real flavor beyond the heat. The lo mein was equally disappointing--it was bland and had virtually no taste. We found ourselves having to drown it in soy sauce just to make it edible. The chicken dumplings were also below expectations. The vegetables inside were undercooked and very crunchy rather than tender. What made the experience even worse was the response when I called to discuss the issues with our meal. The person who answered the phone, who has consistently been rude during previous interactions, showed no concern, empathy, or willingness to address the problem. Another major concern is the value. Royal China has raised its prices on a regular basis over the years, yet the quality of the food has dropped significantly. At this point, the cost simply does not match what you're receiving. Paying more while getting noticeably worse food makes the experience even more frustrating. Customer service and food quality both seem to have declined significantly. I've been to Royal China a few times and overall, I highly recommend especially based on the limited options for really good Chinese in the area. Pros: The food is always good and done well. There's a great lunch menu Mon.-Fri. that includes soup and an egg roll with your entree. You can get wonton soup with the lunch menu, which has been rare in my experiences. You can also request a veggie egg roll, if you prefer. They have a good selection of vegetarian dishes. My fave dishes are the crystal shrimp, salt & pepper shrimp, orange chicken, all the veggie and mushroom dishes, and the dumplings. They have great dumplings. Also, try the table sauces! They're made in-house and done very well. Cons: We usually have fantastic and thoughtful servers, however, a few times we've had servers that weren't as high caliber as others and it made a huge difference with our experience. You only get a few of these experiences in your lifetime, the ones that really leave a lasting impression. This was one of those times. When I say, the food was incredible, that is not doing it justice. I was blown away at such a high-quality, authentic Chinese food experience in the middle of Dallas. The first thing I have to talk about is their chili oil. This is easily the best chili oil I've ever had. Excellent oil, flavor, spicy, and crispy. You must get the Dandan noodles with the noodles. This was voted one of the top 100 dishes in Dallas. The dishes, flavorful, mouth, numbing, and sweet. It is served, but that is such a good way to eat it. I also suggest their soup dumplings. Incredible, so much flavor, and made right in front of you. Any of their noodle dishes are well worth it. You can watch them hand pulling the noodles in front of the bar that is in the center of the restaurant. Finally, I got the salt and pepper tofu, which was really spicy, and had perfectly fried pieces of soft tofu.
