TL;DR version: Avoid if they're busy, even with a reservation. We arrived about 10 minutes early for a 7PM Hibachi reservation and were advised of a 25-30 minute wait. We opted for a shorter wait in the dining area and were seated 20 minutes later after being given an estimated 10-15 minute wait. We waited for a server to arrive to take our drink order. Servers passed by our table, yet we waited. We watched other patrons drinking colorful beverages and hoped for our own dreams of thirst realization. Yet, we waited. I became amused, wondering just how long the servers would continue to pass right by our table of four. At about 7:40PM a couple was seated at the table to our left. I'll admit to being skeptical about Sapporo, but I was pleasantly surprised! I was really excited that they had jasmine tea. You don't find that much at restaurants. Their clear soup was awesome, really flavorful. The veggie tempera was just OK. Kinda bland. But that was really the only disappointing part. I had the crazy roll as my entree and it was delicious. I could have eaten 10 more. My husband had their sashimi (which I stole some of) and it was also super delicious! Our 4 year old had the kid's hibachi steak and actually ate her dinner for once. Friendly staff and quite entertaining hibachi chef. Our party ordered salmon, lobster, scallops, chicken, fillet mignon and sushi. All prepared to order and in pleasing manner and size. The only miss step in our visit was the continued interruption of a banging gong used for birthday announcements. In fairness, the location is meant for a more theatrical experience. I have been to this restaurant 3 times since it opened. The food gets worse every time I go. The Hibachi is good, but the sushi sucks and so do the prices. The restaurant is very nice inside and and clean. We had great service. That being said, if you're craving sushi, do yourself a favor and go next door. Sushi were pretty good, seaweed salad the worst one I have tried ever. Do not order it. We had a waiter Brad ( blonde guy wearing glasses) and he was the most rude waiter we have ever experienced. Asking if we want change, asking us to review the bill as "he was not sure it is correct", asking if we want food boxes while we were still working on our food, mixing our orders and so on. We have eaten here approximately 10 different occasions. The first visit was with my husband for lunch. The restaurant had just opened for the day and they were removing the "Grand Opening" sign out front. I honestly cannot say enough positive remarks about this restaurant. I have yet to have a bad experience. We have brought various co-workers to lunch here and all of them want to return. So far, I have only eaten at the grill, but others in our party have had the sushi. There have been no complaints. The price is higher for dinner, but pretty average for lunch as should be expected. They are giving you entertainment after all. I do think the prices are still comparable though to other nice restaurants. I was very disappointed that I had not decided to eat here this past weekend rather than Flat Tops where I ended up spending more on below average food. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We were hungry and Asakusa, our favorite place, was packed as usual so we decided to try Sapporo next door. I was handed the menus to take to the sushi bar by the greeter! Not something I would expect as a dining experience. Our waiter never introduced himself and throughout the night, he would talk to us from 6 feet away, resulting in me having to yell across the bar to him that we needed our bill. Coming from California, we have had all kinds of sushi and I must say this is awesome! Try the hwe-do-pop bowl, it is soooooooo good! It is sashimi on top of rice with the spicy Korean sauce. We have been to quiet a few hibachi style places over the years and I would rate this one about average or slightly less than. We were there one a Friday late afternoon. We were seated immediately and the wait staff was attentive. We say in the hibachi area. Our table chef was meh. He did a great job interacting with our kids but the typical "show" was lacking. There was a fire at the beginning and also with the volcano but there was no teal knife show as with most places. Also they did not do any detailed cutting of shrimp despite several people ordering shrimp. There was a spin of an egg at the beginning but yet again nothing like we are used to at other places. The food was good and my filet was cooked perfectly to my asking (rare). Someone at the table got the scallops and they looked to me to be over cooked by the time the chef took them off the grill. If you are planning on going here: Choose your seating wisely. When sitting at the hibachi table, I have had knives accidentally thrown at me and/or others in my party, creepy chef experiences, and generally bad times when it comes to guests I was seated with. There is less room for drinks and any additional plates since it is a small bar type of thing. Also, if you have children under the age of 2 or 3; be aware that this area is very loud. When sitting in the dining room, however, the food from the hibachi menu is usually messed up in one way or another. I love getting the yakisoba off the hibachi menu and last time I got it in the dining room, the noodles were drowning in sauce. As for the other dishes; they have the tendency to be fairly salty. They both have their perks, though. The hibachi table has wonderful cooked and stir fried food along with a show and chances for great socialization outside of your party. The dining room has wonderful bento boxes and sushi options that are best eaten in a regular dining environment along with more peace. Also: Get the ice cream filled mochi. It's definitely worth it and I would highly recommend matcha (green tea) and vanilla. read more

Great atmosphere included the famous cooking show at you're table. Great place to take the new date to. But if I had to be fair and rate the whole experience I would start this way. Got seated right away. Had to share a table with strangers. Shrimp wad ok if u like that type of food the lobster wasn't anything to brag about. The chicken was just ok nothing great. The filet steak was awesome the rice and vegetables were once again just ok. Oh the waitress forgot our drinks and then dropped her tray right away but I am not judging her for that. We had to wait on the chef to get things started. The biggest issue I had was the cost. Very over priced for the quality of the food. Would only go back on a special occasion. Noramlly go to the one in Indy but went to Fort Wayne since it was closer....bad choice. Indy is my favorite, don't let Fort Wayne put a bad experience in your mind. Not sure they can mess up hibachi, but this night I got sushi and if they could try to skimp on the fish anymore, you'd get just a ball of rice for your nigiri order. Quality wasn't the issue as it tasted good but they give you about a fourth of fish on the nigiri as anyplace I've ever been. Maybe it was an off night but it was a pathetic dinner. read more

Tonight was our first time here. Being from southern California, we know really good and fresh sushi and sashimi. We've been to one other place in ft Wayne and it was nothing to be excited about. The food here was amazingly delicious!! The salmon sashimi was so fresh! The tuna sashimi was the best I've had in such a long time. We were actually planning on going to the sushi bar in the same parking lot and the wait there was 45 min so we decided to walk over to here and it was the best decision!! It was not that busy when we got there and toward the end of our visit it got busier and the waitress apologized for the wait and we told her to not even worry about it because we still got our food promptly. Sapporo is my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Ft Wayne! After an early movie with friends and a short debate on where to go for dinner, we settled on the new place in town. One of our friends had heard mixed reviews on this place so we decided to see for ourselves. At 7 p.m. on a Saturday night, our party of 4 was seated immediately. Our server, Paige was prompt and friendly and took great care of us. Our chef, "Chef Iloveyou" was outstanding and put on a great show for us, engaging everyone at the table. The meal was a little different from other places and in a good way. Everything was cooked perfectly and the flavors where fresh and delicious. Next time I visit I will be trying the salmon which was prepared with a sauce and looked amazing! the restaurant was beautiful, the serve outstanding and the food delightful. I am sorry to have to leave this review, because I think the food is pretty good and deserves a solid 4 stars. However, I will not return because of the experience. I had made a reservation for 8 people at 6:45. All of the members of our party arrived at the restaurant at 6:45 to celebrate a birthday. We were told our table would be ready in 15 minutes. I was a tad confused because we had a reservation at 6:45. We watched as they led 5 groups to tables ahead of us. I approached the hostess stand again to inquire about our table; I was told our table was next. Then we watched as they seated 3 more groups ahead of us. We were finally led to our table at 7:20. This is not acceptable. We were told the "manager" overbooked reservations. Our chef was friendly and funny, although tough to hear. The sushi was subpar. My steak was good, but not medium rare as requested. The group I was with was fun so we did enjoy ourselves. If I plan to eat this style of food again I will go to a different hibachi restaurant. read more

Having lived in Japan for a few years, I tend to be critical of the authenticity of the food. I ordered the Bento meal, which is a combination of the usual Japanese fare, such as cutlet, spring roll, miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, and veggie tempura; all of which were good. The biggest disappointment was the udon noodle dinner my wife ordered. It was nothing more than spaghetti noodles, cooked and pan fried. Udon noodles are much bigger than regular off the shelf pasta that this place used. The dish actually tasted good, but it totally lacked the authenticity I expect of a Sapporo Japanese Restaurant. We really liked it. We thought the food was on par with the other hibachi places in the area. I had the steak and scallops. The steak was cooked medium rare (by request) and the scallops were just how they needed to be. We also had two sushi rolls. One rainbow and one that had avocado, asparagus and cucumber. This was not on the menu and when my girlfriend asked they told her they would make one for her. I thought that was a nice gesture. The front of the house was clean and well decorated. The restrooms were also very clean- a good sign since it was a busy Saturday. Now if I have a gripe its with the hostess area. I am not sure who is in charge but its a disaster. I called for and got reservations for 730. We didn't get seated until 8 pm. The entire time we were waiting they seemed very disorganized and unsettled. When I asked I was told that there were people ahead of me so I'm curious as to why I wanted reservations. All in all I enjoyed Sapporo. Even a little more then Koto or Takaoka but that could easily be personal preference as both of those places are quality. read more

The worst dining experience of my life! I ordered a medium rare ribeye steak, and I got TOUGH cut up beef tips over cooked and raw vegetables. We asked for a substitution for fried rice since the server said the fried rice would be more, implying that if we ordered noodles there would be no extra charge. When I saw my order I thought it was someone else's. I said, "I ordered a ribeye steak." The server said it was ribeye. I told her it was so tough I couldn't eat it, which was true. She didn't care. I brought it home, although It will be going in the trash today. For my son and me this disgusting food cost SIXTY EIGHT dollars!! When I saw our food order, I should have just gotten up and left. Who would ever think, when they order a ribeye steak that they would be getting beef tips? Totally disgusting! Also, it was so dark in the restaurant we had to use flashlights to read the menu. Much better sushi places in town (Sakura, Koto). Sapporo employees go beyond just being unfriendly, they're surly and rude. Sushi always tastes fishy, the salad is always soggy. Their hibachi is good but nothing you couldn't find elsewhere for a better price and quality. For the price hike compared to other sushi restaurants, you would think they could manage crisp lettuce for their 5 dollar "lettuce and sauce" salad. After a scalding incident with an employee while trying to order take out earlier tonight, I won't resort to doing business with them even in the most sushi desperate situations. OVERPRICED...... C'mon $19.95 for a bento box ? I ordered the 'steak' bento box.... and the waitress ask me how I wanted my steak done.... and I thought hmmm this might just be worth it ! WRONG.... they gave me 'cubed' beef in some gravy sauce... it was OK but on the chewy side. Everything else was average and if not for being overpriced I would have liked to come back and try other dishes. Are you hungry? Do you want to get ripped off and served disgrace food? This is the place! I came in by mistake (actually wanted to go to a place right next door that was well reviewed by Yelp but it was closed), got 2 California rolls and Miso soup. On the menu it says California roll $5.20, Miso soup $2.00. Guy asks "You want the large California roll?" I reply "Sure, why not". Total bill: $19.35. I give him a $20 and say "keep the change". Stepped outside to take a call, doing the math in my head, "somethings not right". How in the world it jumped from $12.40 to $19.35?! Guy comes with food, I say "excuse me, out a' courtesy, how is it $19.35?" He says "Large is $7.99 per roll". I say ok. Go to my car to grab some food before I pick up my girl, realize the sushi looks more like a cheeseburger than a thin japanese sushi. The soup? Maybe 3 oz of disrespectful soup. I say disrespectful because it was very poor in quantity and also in ingredients. O ! And no spoon to have the soup either so had to drink it like a homeless dude.
