Sapporo Ichiban is a nice spot for a low key dinner. My friend and I came in here on a Monday night and were seated immediately. We shared the sashimi pizza and one of the combo sets. First of all, 4 words...what a great deal! The sashimi pizza was very tasty and the flavors went together very well. The amount of fish on top is very generous and they had these crispy noodle looking things on top that made it crunchy. It was a nice texture in my mouth. The other set was ginormous as well! For $15 we got like 24 pieces, which is... a lot! I remember coming here like 8 years ago. It's nice to see its still here. There's seating outside in the garden area and they keep the light kind of dim and romantic. We ordered from here via Seamless on a Saturday night. The menu is pretty huge and a little intimidating but we were craving certain foods so it didn't take us long to choose. We got the Pork Tong Katsu Bento which comes with miso soup, tempura, a California roll, shumai and rice. It's $21 and definitely worth the money. The tempura came with 2 shrimp, sweet potato, eggplant, mountain yam, zucchini and squash. So much tempura and it was really good too! We got a Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll which was delicious and were overall surprised how good the sushi is here for the price. The only thing we didn't like was the Yaki Soba which tasted like lo mein. As a local, I've ordered and dined in here several times and I've ordered different items from the menu. I gave this place a chance. Final order was a pick up today for sukiyaki ($15) Gave feedback and the lady kept interrupting me on the phone. She couldn't even answer what ingredients were in the sukiyaki. "Clear broth" doesn't mean a thing. She also said, "we have always done it this way." This means the business does not give a shit about feedback and will continue to serve this neighborhood with supbar food at expensive prices. Doesn't even taste like sukiyaki. Red oily broth. This place was indeed a let down. First we go to sit in the backyard and I am given a broken chair to sit on (a really obviously broken one) so I had to switch it out myself. Next the waitress took a long time to take our order. Finally we said we were ready and she takes off again... Only when we were about to walk out did she come over. Then there was the food.... All I can say is YUCK the hibachi chicken tasted and looked store bought and frozen... The person I was with ordered chicken too but hers was more tender and tasted fresh. I love coming to this place. I have been coming here for over 6 years and make it a point of coming back even after moving out of greenpoint for a few years now. However today almost makes me want to never come back again. I placed an order for my party and myself and had multiple items, a sushi entree included and when I ordered the free hot sake, the younger female worker told me we had to have $15 per person. My order met these qualifications and when I told her what I ordered, including an additional order her coworker took, she laughed in my face and said okay. The free hot sake never came and I was left feeling embarrassed and offended. My total bill at the end of the night was over $50 so I am not sure why she gave push back. It was the perfect ratio of fish to rice. It was definitely wider than the normal serving I'm used to--but I'm not complaining! 7 pieces of sushi was enough to fill me up. At this point I had scarfed down the nigiri so I really didn't have an appetite for the rolls (it was for my boyfriend anyway). 1 roll will definitely fill you up! The service here was very professional and considerate. They let us use the WiFi password for work laptop purposes mid-way through the dinner and they refilled our sake vase with no problem at all. We ordered the sushi love boat for 2, which came with salad and miso soup. A couple pieces of the sushi were a little soggy and fell apart upon picking them up with chopsticks (before they had the chance to be dunked in the soy sauce), but they still tasted wonderful. I really love sushi so of course I had a good experience. This is almost a "hole in the wall" place, except the inside decor is decent. Anyway, that doesn't matter, what really matters is how tasty the sushi is. We ordered shrimp shumai, a dragon roll, an explosion roll, a New York roll and a haluhai (sp?) roll. The haluhai roll is not on the menu, but listed as a special on the white board. Everything was really delicious and I couldn't help but binge. I think my favorite was the haluhai roll - it had this shredded crab on top and was hot in the middle. It was just very different from anything I've had before. The service is also quick. We were seated immediately and got our food soon after we ordered. The prices are pretty average - it's not dirt cheap, but certainly not too expensive as far as sushi goes. The only thing I didn't like is that the lighting made it very difficult for me to read the menu. It might just be something with my eyes, I don't know, but it took me awhile to decide just because I had trouble seeing. As I said, everything was delicious and the service was quick so it's definitely worth a least a try. It might also be better to do take out here, but either way, it's good. read more

They were SO attentive and polite. Now, when you sit down, you'll be lucky to receive your menu and water within 10 minutes. Although the food is superb, I've become really turned off by the overall service. They're polite when you can get their attention, but it takes forever to flag down one of servers! I even had problems with delivery recently. I used to order take out and delivery ALL THE TIME. I ordered a very basic, simple item with one appetizer on a Saturday night at 7:45. I asked if the wait was long, they said no. I called back 45 minutes later to check on my order. They said it was on the way. Great - except that at 9:30pm I called to CANCEL my order because I gave up and had to leave for a party instead. And I didn't exactly want a bunch of sushi an hour and half later.
