I visited Sapporo about a weeek ago and it was a great experience! I had a lunch meeting and was given the option between Sapporo and another restaurant to meet. Many people recommended I try Sapporo for their bento box lunch deals, and I was not disappointed. For my meal, I ordered the Bento Tray 3 with Bulgogi Noodles and Chicken Teriyaki. It came with a side of steamed white rice and a small salad. It was sooooo good! My favorite part of the meal was the chicken teriyaki and surprisingly the salad. I was surprised I wasn't as big of a fan of the Bulgogi Noodles with Beef. Everyone I talked to raves about the this dish, and I felt like it was just okay. I don't know if it was because the beef was hiding under the noodles, or the noodles were mushy in someway, but I just wasn't a fan. On a positive note, there was so much food, I had to take some for dinner left overs! The restaurant is located conveniently close to UTSA's main campus off of Hausman. I have always passed by this place but I have never stopped. Today I went in because I saw a tik tok on this restaurant. It's like a hidden gem. I was so happy I finally took the risk and enjoyed a meal. We ordered spicy edamame, bulgogi meat and noodles. With fried California roll and a fiesta roll. Everything has flavor. Our meal came with salad and a soup. The food was very delicious and portions were good size to share. We ordered a plate that came with a meat of choice... noodles. Came with rice salad and this fried wonton. Our bill was less that $40 which to me is awesome compared to other Japanese restaurants. I will come back again. read more

The only thing I can think of as I write this review is, "when can I go back?" LOVE it here! The ambiance is great, such a unique design makes you feel like you're someplace other than a strip mall in the middle of San Antonio. As others have mentioned, this is the best sushi in SA! One thing that sets them apart is that they incorporate fruit into their dishes. The rainbow roll had shredded mango on top! It was such a lovely flavor medley! It was one of those moments where I was literally making noises with each bite. The seaweed salad was super fresh and crunchy and the sushi came out separated by thin slices of lemon which could be tasted on the fish and was again a lovely pairing. I can't wait to go back! The rolls are HUGE so don't over order and the word is out on this place so get there early. They do start cutting off the waitlist at a certain point. Sapporo takes "quantity over quality" to the next level. All of their sushi rolls are ridiculously massive. You probably came here for one of two reasons: 1) you're a college student on a budget or 2) you really wanted to get the most out of your money for some mediocre sushi Came here with a group of friends during lunch (for reason #2), because they really wanted to day drink. Sapporo offers a wide variety of combos and sushi specials during lunch AND dinner. The combos come with a house salad and miso soup. I knew I needed something that goes well with sake bombs so I just went for the Sushi Geta special. All of their sushi rolls were huge! One piece of sushi is equivalent to two at a typical sushi restaurant. My friends ordered at least 2-3 rolls and it looked like they barely touched it. We all ended up taking to-go boxes for our food. The only thing that stood out was the Sapporo Special Salad, which was pretty good. On a brighter note, our server was quick and friendly. read more

Had a great experience at Sapporo. I will be returning. The service was great. The food comes out really fast. The food was inexpensive for the quality. All of the wood decor inside of the building is created by hand. The lead sushi chef is the mastermind behind the eloquent decor. It feels like you have stepped into a Japanese restaurant in Japan. I took about 100 pictures of the inside. Our server was Mia and she was amazing. She checked on us to make sure we were doing ok throughout the meal. She was courteous, respectful, patient, informative and efficient. I will request her the next time I visit. The food was delicious. It takes some time for the masterpieces of sushi to arrive to your table but I tell you it is worth the wait. The sushi rolls are huge. They are also very flavorful. I paid $14 for the Turf Guy roll (I will post a photo of at the end of my review) and I couldn't get more than half way through it before I tapped out. I highly recommend visiting Sapporo's. The reason why I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the service. I've been here two times, this first time it took over an hour to get our two rolls and the server forgot to place our Togo order :( no big deal, we work in food, I get it. However this was the same experience we had the second time around.l as well. The staff is friendly, but they just need to hire more people or be more prepared. The food is pretty good for the amount you pay. They have a variety of rolls with interesting flavors. Some rolls are gigantic, do not expect to eat it in one swift bite, but most of the bite is rice. Both times our sushi was not as cold as I would expect sushi to be, it took away from the experience just a small bit. Finally, the second time we went we also ordered the chili noodles with chicken, again my expectations were shot. The noodles lacked flavor and my husband commented that he had forgotten we asked for chicken until he bit into a piece since there was so little it seemed like we were just eating plain oily noodles... The sushi rolls here are amazing. Never disappoint. I've been going here for the past two months, and the sushi is the best sushi in town in my opinion. The service though is another issues, the male server was rude with blunt service. To be clear they were on point with bringing the food in a timely manner and refilling our drinks regularly. I was raised to smile when you meet someone, because first impression are lasting impression. In my opinion attitude is important when serving customers. Sitting there I wondered if the attitude reflected how busy they were?? I looked around thinking it's busy but not overwhelmingly busy. Usually businesses great you with a smile but the male hostess looked more annoyed or burned out. That's the only negative thing I have to say about this location. Second time I tried Sapporo, I was really impressed. I got the crazy monster roll and it was tasty! The fish was fresh and every flavor complimented and blended together perfectly. You definitely get a bang for your bucket for a sushi roll because it's not the normal size sushi rolls you would get. The rolls are larger like a burrito. First time I wasn't impress with the rainbow roll but I am a fan of the Crazy Monster roll. I do recommend trying the crazy monster roll if you like a burst of flavors. The service was on point and our waiter was really great and intuitive. He came back to check on us and was very punctual. Overall second experience beat the first time going here. It did not seem like quality items. The crab stick in one of the tools was a deep fried stick of crab. It was hard and not tasty. The eel sauce is very different, a reddish sauce like a mix of ketchup and bbq. Although our waiter was friendly, the service was not great. Placed an take out order at 6:11 pm on a Friday night and was told it'll be ready in 20 min. Arrived at 6:48pm to pick up my order. I was told 7 min more. Ok. So we paid. Got my food at 7:03pm and they deliver the food to our car without saying a word.. and walk away immediately. I get it's a Friday night and it's busy, but at least let customers know it's on made to order when you pay bias vs "20 min" Or at least say "sorry for the wait." Location: Sapporo restaurant is conveniently located off I-10 and Hausman with adequate parking. Interior: There is plenty of seating inside for groups or smaller, more intimate setting. The decor is very Asia-inspired and definitely eye-catching. Bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. Service: Staff greeted us upon entering. Waitress sat us at a table shortly after. House appetizers (miso soup and salad) were brought out after our drink/food order was taken and main meal arrived 8 minutes after that. Requests of extra rice bowl was forgotten when asked for twice and finally brought with the check. Food orders: Bento Box II, Alaskan Roll, Miso Ramen, Dynamic Roll, and Mochi Ice cream - beautiful presentation and large servings. Bento Box II ($9): Bulgogi had a sweet flavor and meat was well-cooked, however, the bulgogi itself was cold. Tonkatsu was heavily breaded with dried pork in between, also cold... dipping sauce provides for Tonkatsu tasted like brown gravy mixed with brown sugar and was horrendous. Gyoza, though cold, tasted amazing and was the only thing in the bento box with great flavor. Alaskan Roll ($8.50): smoked salmon tasted off and old, could not finish the bite. Miso Ramen ($7.50): large bowl of miso ramen broth tasted flavorless. Noodles were instant and not fresh. Pork seemed to lack flavor and appeared to be boiled as the pork stood gray in color. There also appeared to be ground pork in the ramen as well, also gray in color and lacking flavor. One seaweed piece, half an egg, three or four pieces of corn, plenty of instant noodles, and two small pieces of boiled pork and about two tablespoons worth of ground pork and scallions. Not sure what they were going for here... but this definitely wasn't good ramen. Dynamic Roll ($8.50): the dynamic roll was a tuna, salmon, snapper mixed in spicy sauce and sesame oil topped with spicy mayo and chili powder that sounded amazing, presented beautifully, but tasted completely off. The fish did not taste fresh and the roll could not be eaten. Mochi ice cream ($2.50): thankfully, this store-bought wonder could not be botched and was a delicious ending to a horrendous meal. Recommendations: go somewhere else. Unless you're a college student on a budget... or have no taste buds... then this is the place for you! read more

Two words: "Yakisoba" and "sushi." That's all you need to know when you're ready to hit up Sapporo. It's definitely my favorite new (and new favorite) Japanese eatery. Conveniently located near the Med Center (and my office), I can call in an order of yakisoba and pick it up just a few minutes later. I like to eat it in privacy so that nobody judges how I demolish this delicious chicken and noodle dish. The first time I visited Sapporo I opted for a sashimi plate that didn't stand a chance. Yes, the miso soup was good, but the sashimi was fresh, the cuts were generous, and the taste was exactly what I always expect from sushi but rarely receive in San Antonio. You know, that fresh-from-the-ocean-light-and-refreshing-deliciousness thing? Yeah. If you flounder at the idea of consuming raw fish, don't worry; Sapporo offers a full menu of cooked entrees that are sure to fit the bill. Sapporo is nestled off Hausman Road in a row of businesses. Honestly, if you aren't looking for this restaurant, you'd miss it. Thankfully, we found this gem of a sushi restaurant. The menu here is quite extensive with rolls, bento boxes, and many other options. Upon sitting down, you get miso soup and a salad prior to your meal or appetizer. We started our meal with Gyoza, which came out piping hot and was cooked to golden brown perfection. We then ordered 2 rolls each. The great thing about this place is that you can fry any roll for $1 extra. The rolls are pretty large - I was able to take home a whole roll and make a second meal out of it later that day. The best part about this restaurant is that you get quality sushi for a great price. I was a little hesitant when I saw you can get a 10 pc roll for $5 but the food did not disappoint. The service was great! Our waiter was attentive without being too pesky. He moved swiftly between tables and managed to ensure everyone's needs were being met. The atmosphere is more laidback than most sushi restaurants I've visited, which I appreciate considering we visited on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't packed at all when we went. Stopped by Sapporo for lunch before leaving San Antonio and it was a great end to my trip. They're located in a shopping center along with many other businesses so parking shouldn't be a problem. I showed up on a Tuesday soon after they opened at 11 and by the time I left, the restaurant was almost full. That's a testament to their success as it's a pretty large restaurant. The decor inside is pretty cool, definitely Japan-themed. I will say their bathrooms are a bit outdated, though. After being seated, I went with one of their bento boxes. Talk about a lot of bang for your buck! For $9.50, I got miso soup, a house salad, bulgogi noodles, beef teriyaki, and two fried gyoza's. That's seriously a lot of food! I was able to eat half of it and I was stuffed. The meat wasn't the best but more than worth it given the price point. The teriyaki sauce was on point. The gyoza was my favorite part of the bento box. Service was friendly, though a bit slow in getting my bill taken care of at the end of the meal. Well.... lets begin with a Snarky Title of "The Good, The BAD, and The UGLY" Thanks to a fun day of binge watching Diners and Dives on the Food Network, a slow hankering for Ramen and Dumplings pervaded my belly. After sipping on some cocktails at Top Golf, I Yelped the nearest Ramen spots and decided on Sapporo as the other reviews at the other locations were quite questionable... "The Good" Located less than 5 minutes from the Shops at LaCantera and Top Golf, Sapporo was conveniently located near UTSA (probably good for the College bunch) and offered well priced options... but sometimes you get what you pay for.... The menu let the mind wander and boasted Sushi, Bento Boxes, Ramen bowls as well as various options of noodle to Yakisoba and Udon. "The Bad" As this was my first time in the restaurant, the hostess sat me down quickly but my waitress checking on me was not. When she finally did arrive, I quickly shot out that I wanted water and Gyoza as she was on the move again. The menu was a bit overwhelming so it took me some time and Yelp swiping to decide on a meal. The menu stated a free soup and salad accompanied the"Dine In" Option while you waited, but the soup and salad never came. I flagged down a passing waiter who quickly sent my "Absent in Spirit and Mind" Waitress over... I asked her if I was going to get a Soup and Salad and she stated "Do you Want the Soup and Salad"?.. Puzzled... I shook my head yes.... She finally took my order and I decided on the Seafood Ramen (minus the Pork products and the bean sprouts) and the $7.50 version of Tempura Sushi with swapped out cream cheese for avocado. "The Ugly" While I sat and waited on my meal, the waitress dropped a cold order of Gyoza on my table. With the first bite, I knew the order was cold and quickly asked for a warmer option... unbeknownst to me, the lazy cooks (don't deserve the title of chefs) dropped the remaining four gyoza into grease and brought the same order I had previously now full of grease and over-fried (pictures posted)... My Ramen had 3 little pieces of Shrimp and 3 tiny mussels with two imitation crab sticks with a small hint of seafood flavor... While the portions were enormous, I was underwhelmed by the taste and flavor and can't say with the other options in San Antonio, I'll be returning anytime soon.. I asked for a to-go box and my server brought me a sushi container even though she could see I had a bowl of Ramen that needed a souplike container... Another server brought what I needed and I paid the bill and hastily left. Let me start off by saying I'm a sushi lover, but most importantly.. I really dislike waiting in lines to eat somewhere. I almost let the act that when we drove up we saw about 20 people waiting outside for a table. We decided to go ahead and check it out and ... I'm glad that we did! We got in and put our name down, we were told he wait was about 20-25 mins. Our name was called about 10 mins later. We get a table and our server is super friendly and apologetic for the wait (which was nothing), she took the time to explain a few things and then took our order. I've been to plenty restaurants .. most that are busy have waitstaff moving slow, stressed out, not happy.. but here that wasn't the case. The place was packed!! And these waiters/waitresses were hustling, matter of fact.. they were almost jogging food to tables. The crazy thing is, they were smiling, not stressed, all were in really good moods. It took all of 5-8 mins for appetizers to come out and shortly after our amazing rolls ! The gyoza was really tasty and the signature house soy sauce added that extra yum factor. One of my first discoveries upon moving to San Antonio was the incomparable Sapporo! I love this place and I've become a regular. Not only is the food great, but it's so incredibly affordable It's ridiculous. I get SO.MUCH.FOOD. It can feed me and 1-2 friends for $20. Sushi rolls are really big and shareable. I've tried majority of their specialty rolls and nigiri and they are phenomenal. The udon yaki is another fan fav! I could go on and on, but the moral of the story is come eat hereeeeee!! They can have their off days when food just doesn't seem star quality, but it is few and far between and seems to happen less often. read more

It's just really big portions. If you like to eat multiple rolls then this isn't it. One roll is the size of a normal two or even three rolls. It's a lot of rice and the jalapeños and imitation crab is cut really big almost full size so it's just hard to stomach in that sense. It's just really big lol, Texas size. We made the mistake of order 4 rolls, an app and a sashimi combo. We couldn't stomach how much food was there. It was just a waste in a sense. I tried the Seafood Ramen and it was so yummy, if you're not a seafood lover you can try one of the other options they have (I recommend Karai Ramen if you like spicy). The dude at the front (Jason) gave us such a shitty reception and was SO rude to my son that we had to go somewhere else. When I asked young Jason how he justifies being so rude to his customers, he said, " look how many people we have on the list, your son was not responding the way we like our customers to respond". The menu has a lot more selections than any other simpler place that I've been, so there's something for everyone, which is good because I like to try new things. Have been coming here since they opened. The first year, there were sometimes only three other diners in the restaurant - as lunch was coming to a close. Because of my job, I couldn't get there til 1:30 pm. Being there at the tail end allowed me to chat with workers, and sometimes the owner, who never acted as though the place was anything less than the success it would become. Her hard work & confidence shines through in all of the additions and improvements that have come to the physical space. Her employees continue to give top notch service. Everything is friendly; the vibe is business-casual / collegiate, but there is plenty of respect for families and senior citizens. The food is not "knock your socks off" sushi, but is very good and among the best in class for a suburban Japanese spot. If you're new to sushi, want to play it safe, or, on a budget, gotta get the "Geta" specials. Mid-range specialty rolls are good. I like the Fiesta Roll. Love the simple, but great soup & salad that accompanies most of rolls. You can opt out of sushi and order a plate of teriyaki or other solid and satisfying combos. Noodles are also offered. We visited Sapporo yesterday evening for dinner and it was a delightful surprise. I've been here a long time ago before and wasn't impressed but it could have been due to the roll I ordered. They are located inside a shopping strip. There is decent parking. We were greeted immediately and seated quickly. We had a wonderful waiter named Aiden that was quick and attentive. My boyfriend started with a Sapporo beer that he enjoyed. Then ordered spicy edamame as an appetizer. Spicy edamame here is a hard pass. We were not impressed. Luckily all of our entrees made up for that. Before our meals they served basic house salad and miso soup which were nice. The stars of the show were the Karai chicken which was delicious and the spicy rainbow roll. I would highly recommend both of these dishes. We also had the dynamic roll which was good . First time we have been here. Reviews were good thought we would try it. It is 35 minutes from the house so we were hoping it would be worth it. It was. Nice decor, great and friendly staff. Food was very good. Listen, only warning. Rolls are huge. Normally we will eat 5 rolls at other places. We ordered 3 here and took half of it home. Not kidding. Go slow, you can always order more. Texan roll was our favorite. Also had Fiesta and UTSA. Probably will not order those again but that many options. Best part was the price. 3 rolls, 2 glasses of wine for $44. *Sapporo*  I hate doing reviews where all the employees, the experience, the ambiance, are all there, but the quality of the food is simply lacking.  It honestly feels like what I would imagine you be a Tokyo karaoke bar! Love the blue, red, greens, with the yellow lanterns, the screens and block prints with images of geishas, dragons, temples. Semi-quiet background music, semi-open kitchen. They do not have a happy hour, which was quite the disappointment, but their prices overall are good enough. Shawn was great as our waiter, Dan was in training.  I suspect that most others love this place because of their close location to UTSA, the daily deals, relatively good hours, ambiance, service, vast variety of menu items, (especially sushi rolls), and the food is good enough.  Here is what we ordered:  *Asahi Beer & Green Tea (Nothing to be said)  *Gyoza (Dry)  *Seafood Ramen (very salty, not enough seafood, shrimp not deveined or even detailed) *Udon Yaki (drenched in sauce, chicken very dry, shrimp not deveined or even detailed)  *Bibim Bob (vegetables dry, lacking flavor, the bulgolgi was pretty good; barely warm when it came out, should have been served in the sizzling hot bowl)  * x2 Tako Nigiri (Octopus is my favorite seafood. I was disappointed they had no Sashimi option. It was relatively fresh, but more chewy than I would have liked.)  * Spider Roll (Rice could have been fresher, overall good for the price)  * Imperial Guard Roll (I am a sucker for rolls that are flamed. Made for a great flavor. This was probably the best dish of the night, although a little expensive @ 17.50)  * Sashimi #4 (30 pieces of tuna, salmon, Takati albacore tuna, yellowtail, escolar for $59; disappointed, definitely not as fresh and tender as desired; at least the price was not outrageous)  I suppose I have exceptionally high standards on sushi, coming from California and having eaten at many better places.
