Sushi is good quality and taste fresh, but the service was so bad. Husband and I waited 35 to put in an order, and waited another 1 1/2 hour to recieve our food. Both times we had to flag down the server (we had actually tried to flag them down multiple times before that with no success). When we were done eating we waited another 20+ minutes before just walking up to to host stand to pay. I typically try to be pretty understanding and patient with this stuff (I've worked in the service industry and get how it can be), but this was next level bad. 3 tables that were seated 25-35 minutes after us were getting food and drinks before us. Two of those tables actually closed out and left before us! We had the same server too, so that didn't help in making us feel less frustrated. I have been eating at Sapporo since 2011 as one of my favorite open late sushi restaurants and I've been noticing the food quality and service here has gone down over the years as their prices have gone up. I've held off updating my review out of hopes that they would improve, but the other night really forced my hand. I had just flown into LAX and my partner and I were exhausted and wanted to pick up some sushi to take home. I tried to place an order online, but they had a message that they were not taking orders online and to call them to place an order for pick up. So then I tried to call them. I kept getting the automated phone message that "this user has not set up a message box". Did this mean their phone line was busy or that they took it off the hook? I was unsure. So, hungry and tired and frustrated I went in to the restaurant to place my order in person. They told me that they weren't able to guarantee that I would be able to get my order before they closed...without even hearing what I wanted. Also, this entire ordeal of trying to place an order with them started well over an hour before their closing time. Apparently they do not want my business and so will never have it again, since there are many other sushi options in Long Beach. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Will not be coming here again. Came here with friends tonight; friends that have been coming to this establishment for more than 10 years, before it was even Sapporo. We've always had great service...until today. We requested to replace shrimp sushi for something else on the dinner bento and advised we would pay any difference, no problem. They refused. Even after stating we would pay any difference as long as we could substitute (My friend is allergic to shrimp). They didn't even bother to consult the manager. So we ended up cancelling the substitution. Then the waitress decides to tell us "ok, so you're cancelling the bento box". Wth??? Fine whatever, cancel it. Didn't even try to suggest something else. We were so annoyed at that point we cancelled the entire food order. Our waitress didn't even try to appease us and keep our business. She just said ok and walked away. The manager never came to speak to us. A bill for drinks we had ordered was dropped off. We paid with a credit card. The bill was picked up and brought back for signature, never acknowledging us or the fact that we were leaving after being seated 5 minute ago. The place was not busy The manager could have come to speak to us but no. Even after my friend clearly told our waitress very calmly, "it's ok, we'll just take the bill but we won't be coming here again". It's a shame an establishment that we have been patrons of for so many years decided the can do without our business. read more

He ordered the Cajun Seafood Meal. To our surprise this came poorly presented in the box and with two small teeny tiny slithers of crab leg, & one "JUMBO" scallop aka scallop for the size of a baby not a grown man. Wish we would have known it wasn't a meal size no rice nothing for $10.00. Not worth it at all. All I'm sayin is beware if you order this through delivery and are hungry wanting a meal. read more

Fantastic experience, food was served perfectly for taking home and getting close to a restaurant style experience. They included a nice set of chop sticks w wipes, ginger, eel sauce, soy sauce, and wasabi. The sushi right now was buy one get one 50% off for take out so I was worried it may miss the mark - nope! It was amazing. Had the Red Dragon roll and the California Tempura roll, both equally delicious. The miso soup was great too, and the beer was also 50% off for take out. Can't wait to go back and try their other rolls. They're doing great with the pandemic inside, too. Clearly taking it seriously, and still slinging fantastic sushi. we came here due to the high reviews and were excited to try a new sushi place. we are always in this plaza to get boba at cha for tea, but i never noticed this sushi restaurant tucked away until now. they were not busy at all even though we went on a friday night. they do give you edamame when you are first seated, but it looked like it was either very very old or overcooked. it was a dark green and had a soggy texture. i chose to pass on snacking on it our server was nice, but not very knowledgeable. i asked about gluten free options, and she told me i couldn't have rice since there was gluten in there. i asked her to double check with the chef and she came back to tell me it was just rice. i didn't feel too confident after that and decided to stick with only sashimi. my sashimi was okay. it didn't taste fresh and was a bit too warm. i didn't try any of their rolls, but if they're using the same sushi grade fish as my sashimi, i'd pass on the rolls. i ended up sick after eating here so i definitely won't be back. read more

Two words: Japanese Eggplant. You MUST try Sapporo's version of this traditional dish. The complex flavors and incredible texture blew me away. A large portion for $5, this stir fried eggplant is perfectly cooked and well spiced. Served in a richly savory house made teriyaki sauce mixed with plenty of flavorful Tien Tsing chiles, every bite was interesting and memorable. While Sapporo does not offer any vegan specialty rolls, they have a Veggie Roll ($5) that greatly exceeded my expectations. Super fresh cucumber, enoki mushroom, avocado, asparagus, and carrot-they do not skimp on the variety of vegetable fillings here. They also have a tempura version ($8) which looked great-I will likely order it next time. I felt obligated to order a Sapporo, which they serve on draft for a reasonable $4 per pint. Complimentary edamame were a nice touch. Ambiance is nicely decorated with calming lighting and non-invasive music. Hayleong and Kevin were both lovely and highly attentive servers. By ignored I mean he literally looked the other way when walking by the table. It wasn't like we were in a section all alone either. He just straight up ignored us. I often go here to eat lunch. I always order the three items bento box with sushi, sashimi and mixed tempura. Although the fish isn't the freshest compared to good sushi restaurants, it's fresh enough for the price. The udon and ramen are okay. The rolls are decent, but the best bang for your buck is the bento box. I didn't give it a five star because I wouldn't necessarily crave this place to the point where I have to drive here for lunch or dinner. It's very easy to find #Thinsulin approved green light foods here. I typically order the bento box with double salad with dressing on the salad and double sashimi. Miso soup is made from kelp so it's also green light. Be careful with red light foods such as sushi, tempura, and teriyaki that may spike your insulin level. read more

Had an opportunity to check this place out Friday evening. Great service. Instantly greeted upon entry and were seated immediately (which was surprising for eating out at 6pm on a Friday). They offer your staple Sapporo and Kirin beer on tap, along with an assortment of Sake and soft drinks. The fatty albacore and tuna sushi we ordered first came out fresh and buttery smooth. The rolls we enjoyed were the Love Roll, Frightened Geisha, Long Beach Roll and Red Dragon roll. The menu had a nice variety of rolls that didn't just center around spicy tuna. Since I go to school at CSULB I always pass by this place and it took me up to my 4th till I finally ate here. The rolls were pretty good, I tried the tempura roll. And their ramen bowls are huge! (although with only a few pieces of meat, at least for the chashu flavor) For myself I ordered a 2 item combo with the pork cutlet and salmon teriyaki. The portions of each were pretty small, but it did come with some sides. And they were pretty good ( I wasn't sure how I would feel about salmon with teriyaki sauce but I ended up liking it!) The salmon and shrimp sushi (may usuals whenever I go to any sushi place) was also pretty good. They seemed busy in the middle of the day so they weren't always too attentive with my corner table, but it wasn't too bad. read more

I ordered take out and everything, and I mean everything, I ordered tasted like it was sitting out on the counter for hours. And I only live 1.3 miles away from this place so it's not like I had a long drive with it. I got the Hungry Roll, the Rockstar roll, calamari, Tako Yaki, and the tempura jalapeños with tuna. The ONLY thing that tasted okay was the Tako yaki, and even that was cold. Every other Tako yaki I've ordered from anywhere else has been hot. I hate leaving bad reviews anywhere, but this sushi was horrible and I spent a lot of money on it because sushi is one of my only food indulgences. Maybe it's better when it's not take out?
