Another great sushi place. I have to say though that this place has the best service I have experienced in a long time. Literally a few seconds from sitting down at the bar we get our soup. I had such a wonderful experience here today! The service was quick and attentive which really made this outing amazing. My group ordered an appetizer, sushi rolls and two entrees. Everything came in good time and had flavor. I especially liked the crunch roll & calamari. Personally didn't prefer the 3 companies roll. Be careful you'll miss it, if you blink!! We were able to get parking right in front with no issues. Must park fast though if you don't want your back end to get tore off! Lol Walked in and it wasn't busy at all. We sat at counter where you can watch them make all your dishes. If I had her name, the waitress would definitely get acknowledged due to her poor customer service and attitude. No smile. Brash and she acted as if she was disgusted with us when inquiring. We also noticed when other customers arrived she broke her neck rushing to assist them. I believe the chef caught wind of her attitude and our discomfort and he immediately took our order. I used to love Sushi on Fire, but my last two visits were really disappointing. The first time, I actually found a fly under a piece of salmon in my sushi. They didn't take it off my bill or even really apologize. Then the next week, my friend found a fly in their soy sauce, which just made the whole thing feel dirty and careless. We had the red county supreme roll and it was delicious, not too spicy. I know they're known for their sushi, but their beef teriyaki was the BEST!!! We've never had such flavorful tender steak and the teriyaki sauce was soo good. You must order the beef teriyaki, you won't be disappointed. As to the service, they are fast to come take your order, but they lack table touching. A check back would have been better. Came in on a Wednesday night for dinner. Servers and waitress were attentive, checking in how the foo and everything else was. The vibes are relaxing and not too crowded. The eel roll, black dragon roll, sexy roll, hello kitty hand roll, yum yum scallop, and half oyster were ordered. Both eel roll and black dragon roll dishes were yummy, not too much eel sauce. The yum yum scallop has a very sweet/sour tang to it and it was good. The half oysters were interesting as there was a spicy sauce in it. The sexy roll was delicious as it contained NO RICE and I got to enjoy the fish variety. My favorite was the hello kitty hand roll - another NO RICE and I loved it. Stopped by for happy hour after seeing them on Instagram. What led me here was the truffle salmon belly sushi which I was a little hesitant paying extra for - would the truffle really add that much? It did and it was so worth it. Everything else I had was great too, very fresh: the shrimp sushi, the snow crab sushi, and the complimentary miso soup. Presentation was beautiful. Sushi on Fire in Long Beach has quickly become one of our favorite spots. This was my girlfriend's and my second visit, and Dara--our amazing waitress--actually remembered our names. She gives fantastic recommendations, including an incredible bluefin tuna dish this time around. She really knows her stuff and makes the whole experience even better. We always get the big Asahi beers that come with sake, and the spicy edamame is seriously the best we've ever had. Everything is always fresh, and we've been seated right away on both visits. There was also another super friendly waitress helping out, and my girlfriend pointed out that she had a really cute hairstyle--we didn't catch her name, but she added to the great vibe of the night. Went for a friend's birthday. Party of 12 with small kids. I can say this place deserves more than 5 stars. The food was superb. All of the dishes were served nicely and tasted supreme. I was so disappointed at Sushi On Fire the other night . I always feel like it is dirty there and haven't been in a long time but my grown kids wanted to go so I did. The service was horrible . My friends and I walked in on a Saturday at around 1:30 pm after parking several blocks down in a paid lot. Though the restaurant was busy, our party of 3 was seated immediately. Service was prompt and our food came super fast, like less than 10 minutes after we ordered. We got 4 rolls that ended up tasting very similar to each other, probably due to the significant overlap in ingredients such as shrimp tempura and eel sauce. The rice was a little mushy, but still chewy. - Animal Roll ($18.95). I enjoyed this roll the most. What stood out to me was the delicately fried onion and the thin layer of sesame sauce on top of the fish. The seared albacore tuna was also good. I don't recall the taste of the shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and avocado filling. Either soy sauce or eel sauce was also drizzled at the bottom. - Ken's Special ($18.95). Avocado and shredded shrimp salad topped the roll. Inside contained baked langostino with spicy mayo. The mild langostino was inoffensive. Eel sauce and chili oil were drizzled on the side. - Crunchy C ($14.95). It was okay, but not how I like my shrimp tempura roll. My favorite part was the generous glob of rich and flavorful cream cheese in each slice. The shrimp tempura was a little bland and dry. I would have preferred seaweed instead of soy paper, which is flavorless and odorless by design. The eel sauce was fine, but I could have used more crunchy tempura flake. - Red Crunchy Supreme ($16.95). A roll filled with shrimp tempura, cucumber, and avocado, topped with spicy tuna, tempura flakes, chili oil, and eel sauce. The inside was okay, but I wasn't a fan of the spicy tuna; it tasted a little old. read more

Extensive menu with both cold and hot Japanese food, great value, loud surroundings, so-so fish and rice. Sushi on Fire in Huntington Beach was one of the first restaurants we went to , after we had moved to SoCal a bit ago. We learned some things: 1. locals are willing to drive 90 minutes one-way to meet friends on a worknight 2. parking is very painful even outside of downtowns. 3. quality of sushi even in tourist areas could be very good. We had really good memories of it, so when we finally had a chance to visit our local branch for lunch on a Thursda, we took it. Sushi On Fire in Long Beach is located on the northside of 2nd street, and has plenty of foot traffic to draw people in. It was about half full when we arrived after lunch hour, but the lunch menu was still active. We got to seat ourselves, and found a nice indoor spot near a window. The first thing we noticed right away was it is very loud inside, even with a partially full crowd. It was hard to carry on a conversation initially, but our ears got used to it. They have a large lunch menu (12 - 4 M-F), and the prices are very good. We decided to share, so got two specials from the Sushi Bar: Chirashi (assorted raw fish on sushi rice for $16.95) and 3 choiced cut rolls ($17.95). Both meals started with a very good miso soup (large chunks of seafood with small diced tofu) and a very, very fresh garden salad (house, sesame dressing). It was a wonderful start to the meal, and really heightened our anticipation for the main course. Unfortunately, the rest of food was quite a let-down. There were plenty of generous raw fish on the sushi rice (2 thick slices of each: salmon, red tuna, and 2 different types of yellowtail). The fish wasn't the best, dull, a bit mushy...but for the price, understandable. The rice, though, was just a lack of execution. It was clumpy, and the vinegar hadn't been mixed properly. It wasn't very good. For the rolls, again very generous portions, and filling enough...a great value for the price. We ordered salmon w/avocado, spicy shrimp, and shrimp tempura. But I'm not sure if the rice had been vinegared at all, and it looked and tasted like Korean kimbap, rather than Maki. Very fresh ginger and wasabi is provided, and the rolls tasted a lot better with it, since the filling tasted pretty much the same and the nori tasted tended to overwhelm. My daughter has become quite the connoisseur of sushi, and didn't want to finish either dish. I liked it a bit better, so brought the rest home and ate it later that night. The service was very attentive throughout, and brought out our food promptly. I can see why it is so popular, with the lively environment and very reasonable prices. read more

We got so many rolls and other items on our visit here, all which I didn't get the name of. I can assure you all everything was delicious. I will point out my favorite thing! The spicy edamame was my favorite! The edamame is seared and crispy, I love how they did this. I would love to have all my edamame like this from now on. My second favorite plate was this item that had fresh tuna on top of some chips. Every bite of this was amazing. Thirdly, some fresh fish that came with some grilled onions covered in a very delicious sauce. Service was fast and we got sat down immediately when we walked in. But the black dragon (eel) roll and pork chop roll (seared cajun tuna) did not taste fresh at all when they came out :/ The pork chop roll sounded good in theory but it lacked flavor and also came with soy paper so it just fell apart. So that's a personal reminder not to order rolls with soy paper next time. The service was nice and friendly. And it's nice that we've never had to wait for a table here even though 2nd Street is always popping. read more
