    Station 42 roll

Was looking for a good, casual sushi bar in Long Beach. Read good reviews about this place. It's good, but not great. Wanted to sit outside and they only had two small tables which worked for us. The service was about average, not super friendly never smiled. We each ordered a Station 42 roll which was very good. I asked for Ponzu sauce and when I got the bill, I was charged $2.00 for it! Seriously! (it's like soy sauce!) I would recommend this place, but don't go for the service!

Another great sushi place. I have to say though that this place has the best service I have experienced in a long time. Literally a few seconds from sitting down at the bar we get our soup. Very busy place but still food comes out quickly and not overly expensive. I would definitely recommend coming here and try it. I will try to come as often as I can. Absolutely 5 starts on service, food and ambiance!!!

Be careful you'll miss it, if you blink!! We were able to get parking right in front with no issues. Must park fast though if you don't want your back end to get tore off! Lol Walked in and it wasn't busy at all. We sat at counter where you can watch them make all your dishes. If I had her name, the waitress would definitely get acknowledged due to her poor customer service and attitude. No smile. Brash and she acted as if she was disgusted with us when inquiring. We also noticed when other customers arrived she broke her neck rushing to assist them. I believe the chef caught wind of her attitude and our discomfort and he immediately took our order. Would we return again, probably not. However, the 4 star is solely based on the chefs interaction and you should definitely try out Sushi On Fire!!

My favorite place to have sushi top tier favorites: New York New York and spicy tuna Crispy rice.

Came in on a Wednesday night for dinner. Servers and waitress were attentive, checking in how the foo and everything else was. The vibes are relaxing and not too crowded. The eel roll, black dragon roll, sexy roll, hello kitty hand roll, yum yum scallop, and half oyster were ordered. Both eel roll and black dragon roll dishes were yummy, not too much eel sauce. The yum yum scallop has a very sweet/sour tang to it and it was good. The half oysters were interesting as there was a spicy sauce in it. The sexy roll was delicious as it contained NO RICE and I got to enjoy the fish variety. My favorite was the hello kitty hand roll - another NO RICE and I loved it. Got to enjoy the fish and tempura shrimp in a soy paper wrap. Would recommend these 2 dishes for no rice option.

My go-to place for a quick sushi. Super friendly staff and really fast service. The prices are some of the best on 2nd street. I usually avoid the weekends as this place gets packed!!

Came here on the night of the boat parade around 5 pm and we got in right away. The sushi rolls were decent and the service was good. It a memorable experience but it was decent for a last minute decision.

Snow crab sushi, truffle salmon belly sushi, shrimp sushi
    Season H.

Stopped by for happy hour after seeing them on Instagram. What led me here was the truffle salmon belly sushi which I was a little hesitant paying extra for - would the truffle really add that much? It did and it was so worth it. Everything else I had was great too, very fresh: the shrimp sushi, the snow crab sushi, and the complimentary miso soup. Presentation was beautiful. The atmosphere was quiet on a Monday around 4 pm and service was prompt and friendly. I felt completely comfortable dining alone as a solo diner.

Spicy edamame. I love it but I ask for less spice
    Jessica S.

My fav sushi spot. Love the hello kitty roll minus red onion. The garlic edamame is better than any other place! The ice cream is also yummy. Kids chopstick helpers were a hit as is the Japanese soda. The service is the fastest service of anywhere - even McDonald's ha. They have a sister restaurant downtown called Sushi Mafia. Ambience - depends on time and what day but it's usually fine except for busy times of course. They have 2 outdoor seats on the sidewalk which is nice. Oh and they bring you miso soup right when you sit down!

Sushi on Fire in Long Beach has quickly become one of our favorite spots. This was my girlfriend's and my second visit, and Dara--our amazing waitress--actually remembered our names. She gives fantastic recommendations, including an incredible bluefin tuna dish this time around. She really knows her stuff and makes the whole experience even better. We always get the big Asahi beers that come with sake, and the spicy edamame is seriously the best we've ever had. Everything is always fresh, and we've been seated right away on both visits. There was also another super friendly waitress helping out, and my girlfriend pointed out that she had a really cute hairstyle--we didn't catch her name, but she added to the great vibe of the night. Sushi on Fire nails it every time. Great service, great food, great energy. We'll definitely keep coming back.

Walked over for happy hour which was a decent hh, not the best sushi hh I've seen but 20% off food which is pretty good. It's from 2-5pm so more of a late lunch early dinner. The service was great. Good ambiance. Menu was a little too big, there were probably ~70 specialty rolls to pick from. Overall the food was tasty so I would give 4 stars. I am docking a star because the rolls I got seemed to be wrapped with way more rice and less fish than I've seen before (you can tell in my picture). Baked salmon roll had slivers of salmon on top. Maybe it's a happy hour thing?

I have loved the food here for years and years... ESPECIALLY their quail egg shots! It's super cute they're handing out fortune cookies to all the kids dressed up to trick or treat along 2nd Street for Halloween! The wall decor and interior ambience could use a little pick me up though... it's been a while? ‍

This is my girlfriend's favorite spot in all of Long Beach. Large variety of rolls but they do not skip on the freshness or flavor. Great hidden gem with fast and friendly service. Not really any glitz and glam, but would definitely recommend for the quality of food that you get

We sat at the bar and the sushi, chefs and server were nice. We ordered their spicy edamame which was loaded with flavor by far the best spicy edamame. I love the garlic and chili combos with a little citrus flavor. Also ordered the stinky roll, which is spicy tuna on the inside and salmon on the outside which I liked very much couldn't decide on a second roll so I asked the server to surprise us and kind of regret doing that because he had brought us a roll that I was already cringing at reading the description on the menu which was their long beach roll however, the crunch it had on the inside was very nice and not too heavy. I don't feel that asparagus should be anywhere near a sushi roll, but that was my bad. Also ordered their Yuzu cheesecake, which was a no for me. It was too strong and screaming Yuzu simialr to lemon zest and super tiny. The quality of the ingredients they use here are pretty good. I would come back to try other items, but I do not suggest getting their dessert or their long beach roll.

This is a great option for non-sushi eaters and sushi eaters alike because the options include chicken teriyaki, chicken katsu, tempura, and several roll options. Service is usually pretty good. Was craving sushi this day and decided to stop into Sushi Beluga for the first time. Great reviews on the quality of their fish. A bit expensive, but wanted to try what the chef would recommend, hoping that it wasn't too busy, so could strike up a conversation and learn some things. I stopped in about 5 minutes after their posted start time (12:15), and there were already two tables seated at the outdoor patio, so a good sign. The single server was busy servicing one of the tables. So I walked by her, going inside. It was empty inside, except for the sushi chef who was busy working. Asked him, if I could sit at the bar and he said sure: "Anywhere you like". So I sat at the bar spot closest to the wall, not wanting to hog up too much space. All the place settings had been set for each spot, and there were paper take-out pamphlets that doubled as menus, so studied that for a bit. Soon the efficient waitress came back, noticed where I was sitting and promptly brought ice water without a word and left. I kept studying the menu. She came from behind with an 'excuse me', and proceeded to stuff more paper menus into the slot to my left (filling it up), making me move. OK, so I must have sat in a bad spot (no reason to fill up a slot that already had menus, especially when she seemed busy). So I moved one spot over. The waitress had come back from outside passing by, and I let her know I had a question. Without missing a beat, she gave a quick 'Just a minute', and right back into the kitchen. She came out a bit later with drinks for the table outside, right by me without a word. At this point, I addressed the chef right in front of me, to ask him what he recommended (just to see if he spoke). He was straight to the point, saying the king salmon, spanish mackerel, yellowtail, and seabream. So I knew I wasn't going to get any detailed conversation, but told him I've never had seabream before (to be honest, I didn't even know it was a fish). He said it was mild fish, similar to amberjack. So that helped. He then asked/told me "You don't like salmon". Thinking back, maybe he wasn't asking a question, but I took it as an opportunity to discuss, so told him I much prefer tuna, and asked him. He mentioned he had toro and bluefin, so I asked him the market price for the toro, which he knew (too high for me). Then I waited for the waitress. She came back and asked if I had made up my mind, never acknowledging that I had asked a question before. So I placed my order and she left. As she passed again, I said 'Hi' with a raised hand , but she didn't hear it. I was irritated and said loudly, "Hello!' as she went to the kitchen. This time, she came back out. I asked to add a bowl of white rice, and her response was 'You want it, NOW?'. "No, with my food, please". It was clear the chef was just ignoring what was going on. So I stewed and thought about just standing up and leaving (glad I didn't). Instead, I moved myself to a table inside facing a window, so I could at least have something to look out at while waiting. Nobody said anything. Each of them had a job to do, and woe to the customer if not understanding who does what. The waitress was efficient, keeping my water filled, and bringing out each dish immediately as the chef finished, telling me what it was. And I have to admit, the dishes were marvelous. It came in this order. Amberjack Crudo ($22) - loved this. It was 6 pieces of buttery hamachi, dressed in a ponzu sauce, with crunchy flakes on top. Would have loved to know more about this, but as the menu didn't describe, who else would I have asked? Octopus Karaage ($9.99) - so much better for me than takoyaki, mostly tenacle with a light batter, well deep-fried. Really enjoyed it. Bluefin Tuna ($9.99) - didn't look as pretty as others and looked a bit old, but it tasted fine, with no sinew. The two nigiri pieces had a very generous amount. Steam Rice ($2.50) - wish it had come at the beginning, before the crudo. Spanish Mackerel ($10) - two nigiri pieces and it was a revelation. Neatly made and dressed, it still had the distinct flavor of mackerel but was a lot more buttery than any other version I've ever had. Don't think I can go back to the cheaper cuts often served for sushi specials at other places. Seabream ($10) - two nigiri, first time and won't be last. It's a great sushi fish, mild and smooth. Was the one time when the waitress advised, "don't dip in soy sauce, it's already dressed". I kept my interaction minimal at this point, no acknowledgement unless directly asked a question, moving my empty plate to the end when done, and presenting my credit card when I wanted to pay. I don't mind minimalistic service when the food is this good, but the service (of both) was really, really poor.
