SOOO AMAZING i'm already obsessed with this restaurant. i was VERY pleased with my dining experience at osaka story :3 i need to come back asap -- it was that freaking good. i think i stumbled upon this place through a recommendation from yelp so shoutout to yelp i love u yelp. absolutely exceeded my expectations! the menu is HUGE, like several pages long, so you're bound to find something you'll like ~ not to mention, the service was excellent! very attentive and friendly servers! the interior is also soo cute at night + there's an outdoor dining area. we ordered the mango tango, black mamba, and orange bikini roll. they were all so good, but i think the black mamba was my fav. it was a tinge lighter than the other rolls with a dash of citrus that i really enjoyed! (i think from the ponzu, i LOVE PONZU)! every bite was BURSTING WITH FLAVOR :') incredible combinations. chef's kiss. parking is on the street, so it CAN be tricky to find a spot... but the area is lovely to walk through, especially at night! we were told the meters aren't active after 7pm and parked in a 25 minute loading zone spot with no problems at all. read more

It was supposed to be one of those really hot out of the ordinary March days when we came here, but on this particular evening as soon as I drove over the bridges, I saw this huge cloud over the Long Beach area. I did not come prepared for a chilly night. We were supposed to just have coffee and go for a walk, but we needed a warm place, so we stumbled upon this place. It's actually pretty good. We sat at the counter/bar. The servers were nice. What we got: Salmon/tuna poke bowl: quite yummy. A mixture of both salmon and tuna in a great poke sauce over a bed of rice and salad. Salmon skin salad: if you like salmon skin, this is yummy. A perfect crunch seasoned really well to complement the bed of greens. Furikake fries: thinly cut potato's with furikake seasoning paired with a sweet mustard dipping sauce. I would have enjoyed more Furikake on the fries, but that's just me. This place has real wasabi if you ask for it instead of the watered down stuff you usually get. It's actually pretty good! Overall great food and great service. I'd come back for sure! read more

Osaka story has become my new favorite place in Long Beach to get sushi rolls! Sushi rolls nowadays tend to be $18-20 for a specialty roll anywhere (inflation!) but the rolls here are huge - excellent portion size! We tried the Mango Tango roll, Golden California roll, and Ninja roll - all delicious, but our favorite was definitely the Mango Tango roll! Light, refreshing, and the sweetness of the mango went really well with the salmon. Would definitely order it again! The menu is very extensive with a ton of specialty roll options as well as other things like hot rice plates, ramen, and even yubu. There's something here for everyone! We came on a Sunday at 12 and got seated very quickly, and we were lucky as a line started forming around 12:15 for indoor seating. Our food also came out very quickly after we placed our order. Met some friends and we were hungry. So we went to Belmont Shore (a part of Long Beach) and walked right into Osaka Story. Greeted by a very friendly hostess and there was not wait. So we were seated right away. It's a cozy restaurant with strong wooden tables and chairs. The menu has a wide array of traditional Japanese food and drink items as well as some fun California fusion foods. Our waitress took our food orders and you can watch the chefs make the meals. This wasn't our original destination for a girls lunch, but it ended up being a great choice. We dined outside and ordered a variety of appetizers, rolls, and Sashimi. The group loved the cucumber salad and ordered a second. The Crispy Spicy Tuna was delicious along with the Shishito Peppers and edamame. As of 2025, this has been one of my favorite sushi spots in Long Beach, I haven't explored too much this year being that this is the closest to me but I really like the quality of their rolls and the freshness. I've been here two times in the last 6 months and it hasn't disappointed. In fact, their service was outstanding too, the waiter would always check on us. Inside its well decorated and dimmed, outside there's a handful of tables if you want a cool breeze and want to people watch. Diving into their menu, there's a plethora of sushi options and it's not limited at sushi, there's a lot of entrees! The crunch roll is hands down of my favorite crunch rolls I've had in Socal. We also arrived on Christmas Day which is great that they are open. Very busy. Not that many businesses open on 2nd Street. We loved their extensive menu and enjoyed many specialty rolls to share. I've past by this location for such a longtime. Finally, I decided to give it a try and I wish I would have gone here sooner. Every aspect of each dish was amazing! Dragon roll I've had before at many sushi locations but, this was done do well. A tight roll that Santa's together when picked up, each piece was equal in size (the entire plate was huge), the dragon roll was savory yet sweet. Sexy mango had to be my favorite item. I felt guilty eating it alone that I saved half to rush home to my husband. He too throughly enjoyed each roll. The mango roll will be one that I will get at any future visit. Jalapeño bomb was very large. Gigantic! Easily a meal on its own. The bread stays on the large jalapeño (which is rare at any restaurant I've had it at before), the flavors were amazing, each piece was identical. Heat was mild, savory, and sweet. Tea was very good. A typical true green tea. Refills are offer which is very nice. I can't wait to go with my husband this Sunday! Staff was extremely pleasant and prompt to anything you needed said or unsaid. Parking is, of course, quite difficult along 2nd but as long as you don't mind a little bit of a stroll there will always be some options (even non-metered spots along the park about a block away). As for the food, everything I have had here has been delicious and of good quality. My favorites are the no-rice rolls; specifically the Protein and Orange Bikini. The menu is very extensive like basically like Cheesecake Factory menu long. We went Mother's Day and it wasn't busy for lunch. That was good for us! I love that they have kids menu. If you have someone in your party who doesn't like sushi then there are tons of non sushi options. I order 2 rolls. I didn't need wasabi or soy sauce for any of them because they add so much flavor to them. I loved my aloha roll. Also loved the black mamba roll but I wasn't expecting it taste sweet. I have ordered rolls w mango in the past and they never taste sweet. However, having it sweet wasn't a bad thing I just wasn't expecting it. Will definitely comeback again. I'm basically leaving a review because I know my oldest will ask to come again and I don't know how else to effectively bookmark it without remembering if it was this one or not. We wrote our name down on the list at the front for our group of 4 and they never called our name. We observed that our name was crossed us off. The server or potentially manager claimed he called us 3 times. He said maybe it was his accent. My wife speaks Japanese, she knows how her American name is pronounced for Japanese speakers. I know what her name sounds like for a Japanese speaker. Her name wasn't called. We were within 5 feet of the check-in area. A group of 7 behind us was shuttled into the open tables on the patio. They don't look like my family. We are a family of color. They may also be regulars, I do not know. The ramen was good and the beer was cold. We were the only Asian family in the restaurant, so maybe our mistake. Addendum: My wife's name is pronounced Jesh-ka among Japanese speakers and that was not announced. We did hear Mr. Trey's name announced. If we ever come back, we will use any easier to pronounce name or my Vietnamese or even my American name if it is easier which was your reason for us not hearing you 5 feet away. Osaka Story is truly a story. The owner, Reyna came out to greet us and she was such a sweetheart. You can tell she puts her heart and soul into her business. The service was excellent. The waitresses were very attentive. The food was amazing! We got the seared lemon pepper salmon and the seared Cajun tuna. The blue fin tuna was some of the best I had ever had. The menu is large, but almost all of the menu items had pictures to go along with it, which helped me visually to see the food. I appreciated that. We also had the crispy spicy garlic crab and oh my gosh, delicious!!! I have tried many spots in Long Beach, and this one is now at the top of my list. They also have an excellent selection of sakes. This place is a fairly new restaurant on second street and we decided to go in and taste the food. They have many different options sushi and other foods. After all it is a Japanese kitchen! Great service and cool location. 2nd street always has a cool ambiance. I ordered the fish katsu and it was absolute not good. The first time I got it was way overcooked and the second time it was very undercooked. The waiter explained that they get them frozen and it is hard to get them right. He didn't charge for that dish and gave us a chicken katsu dish for free. Absolutely redeemed the restaurant and I am willing to go back and try their other dishes.
