    Chirashi bowl

I still completely love this place and its solid $30 chirashi bowls! Sapps does sushi so well here. Also check out the older version of this review, my opinions still stand. Lunch specials look good, they are still about ~$20. Would recommend the sushi lunch specials over the other options. They got a great location here with plenty of seating in the back of the restaurant, a bar area in front, and a tiny bit of outdoor seating, which was lovely on a good early summer's day. Service is pretty quick and everyone is nice. Not a spot I'd travel far to, but one of my favorite quiet local spots.

This restaurant is my go to sushi spot in Manhattan. As soon as you walk in the servers are welcoming and sit you down right away even if you don't have a reservation. Quick and efficient service especially on a lunch break. The ambiance is quiet and such a nice setting, the art on the wall is eye-catching. The food is ALWAYS fresh and the sushi melts in your mouth. Prices are reasonable considering it is downtown. Great overall.

Very comfortable restaurant and bar. I thought it would be a small restaurant but it's pretty big restaurant. We went for quick happy hour. They have decent price for HH drinks. Since it was so cold outside we went for hot sake and tried their spicy edamame and sashimi. We would come back again to try their ramen

TREMENDOUS lunch dishes!! I had 3 rolls plus a salad and I had to take leftovers home. My friend had the salmon teriyaki bento box which came also came with chicken, white rice, miso soup and a salad. Everything was delicious and the staff was very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!

The service was quick, and the staff were attentive. The restaurant was much larger than I expected and fairly quiet around lunchtime on the weekday we visited. I ordered a salmon teriyaki bento box. The teriyaki sauce hadn't quite soaked into the fish, so the piece that I got wasn't very flavorful, but I didn't mind solely because it was salmon (and I don't mind the taste of plain salmon). The miso soup, salad, and rice were tasty, and chicken was great, though a bit soft. The portion sizes are on the smaller end, which ended up being perfect for me that day. The food here was decent; I may come here again for a quick lunch, but it's not the kind of restaurant I would recommend to people who are visiting and looking for stand-out dining experiences.

I stopped by for happy hour one Friday night. Staff was friendly. They had a lot of returning customers. I would definitely come again if I was in the area. The takoyaki was delicious and I would order the yuzu cocktail again. Skip the California roll.

My Sister and I went to Sapps for dinner and liked it so much that we went back a few weeks later. The interior is very nice with lots of seating. Both times we went we had no issues with being seated quickly. . From our two experience we had the Sashimi Dinner, Firecracker (Yellowtail topped with yellowtail Jalapeno, Seaweed Salad, Yellowtail Serrano, Karaage (Japanese style fried chicken), Salmon Skin Salad, The Thunder Dome (Cubed tuna or salmon, wrapped with avocado and topped with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and tobiko), and the Matcha Churro for dessert. The sashimi was some of the best I have ever had. It was extremely fresh, flavorful, great quality, and the portions were larger than I expected. All of the dishes were great. The Thunder Dome was very unique and I have not seen (or tasted) anything like it before. The wait staff was really attentive and took great care of us. My sister and I are huge sushi fans and this place ranks near the top of the places we have been. We had two awesome experiences and would definitely come back when we are back in the area.

This is a great lunch location in terms of proximity to Columbia campus and other schools nearby. The space is big with lots of seating and a cool Japanese anime-inspired interior. I've been here a few times for lunch and had a good experience with fast service. It's definitely a good sit down place to have lunch with someone and still be out in less than an hour. Previously, I've ordered the donburi and rice dishes and it's been satisfying. Meat portions are not that much, but it's good enough for lunch. Also tried bento boxes and some sushi rolls and they were good enough for lunch as well. The appetizer options are pretty good. Kara age is chunky and goes well with the spicy mayo sauce. Takoyaki is also not too bad, though can be a little oily. This most recent time I came, I decided to try something else on the menu. WARNING: DO NOT COME FOR RAMEN!! The spicy miso ramen was such a disappointment and did not taste like a Japanese ramen at all. The broth tasted weird and the spice seemed more like a char than any kind of pepper. There was also no chashu pork slices but it came with ground pork and a grilled hot dog. There was a few pieces of bamboo shoots and a load of bean sprouts and cabbage. The hot dog's charred flavor is probably what seeped into the broth that made it taste unpleasant. Overall, it was not enjoyable to eat and absolutely not worth the price they charge for it. Probably one of the worst ramen dishes I've had in the city.

We love Sapps! The food is delicious and the service is so attentive. Everything we have tried so far is fresh, the sushi and the hot entrees. The ramen and Katsu curry are some of our favorite, my son asks for it all the time! If you are looking for Japanese comfort food, Sapps is for you Too bad, i forget to take curry photo " So Good "

How could I not love a place with the name, Scarlet Lounge?…read more It takes a lot to get me to venture to this part of town and I honestly cannot remember the last time I had a night out on the Upper West Side, but Scarlet has been on my list since I saw owner, Michael Imperioli's announcing the opening on Instagram. I found myself in the area on recent Friday evening and decided to meet up with two friends here. I was smitten at first sight of the beautifully-appointed room, with seductive red drapery and gold accents. All I wanted to do was curl up on one of the velvet chairs and spend my entire evening captivated by imagined past lives of this space... Dorothy Parker holding court here with her Vicious Circle, sipping on Gibsons and martinis. You're going to have a glorious time. We were welcomed by a dashing gentleman at the door who kindly found us seating in the sultry little nook by the piano. Our server never left us wanting for anything and believe me, we wanted it all. Cocktail names are well-priced, especially for Manhattan. I kept to a decent bubbly and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my time here.

ONE BARTENDER FOR THE ENTIRE BAR -- READ BEFORE YOU GO:…read more I've never felt more gaslit by positive reviews in my life. The people calling this place "amazing" are either Sopranos fans, personally connected to management, or grading on an unbelievably generous curve. I have absolutely nothing to gain from distorting my experience. And judging by reviews like Benny R's below, I'm clearly not the only one saying this: if you go to The Scarlet, expect to wait forever, get ignored, and leave frustrated. And the worst part? It's not even a one-off bad night. I've been to The Scarlet multiple times, and every single visit has been the exact same mess: one bartender trying to run the entire place alone while customers sit around waiting endlessly for service. Last night (May 20), there were around 20-25 people in the bar between the tables and bar seats, and a single bartender was expected to do everything: make drinks, take orders, deliver cocktails to tables, clear space at the bar, all of it. Unsurprisingly, service moved at a glacial pace. My date and I were seated when we arrived and after waiting 30 minutes without anyone coming over, I finally had to walk up to the bar and order my own drink. It was deeply uncomfortable and unprofessional. Management charging $25 per cocktail while refusing to properly staff the place is ridiculous. If you're going to price drinks like a luxury lounge, at least operate like one. MEMO TO MANAGEMENT - stop being cheap and hire another bartender. Your customers are paying enough to deserve basic service.

"Things to Consider":…read more 1. Food - fine if you want to pay hotel prices for food that you can get at a New Jersey or Long Island mall at much lower prices. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and pita chips warmed and served in the bags they came in. 2. Service - non-existent. No staff members acknowledge your arrival. You either have to wave madly or go to the bar and ask for a drink. The staff is always closing early with the staff excuse that "we are not busy" yet guests are routinely turned away. The staff is not happy and begrudge being there. DO NOT believe in the hours posted on the website. There is a built-in clientele but the staff can't wait to close it down. I don't know what is wrong with management but they have lost the plot. 3. Ambience - The space could be so much better than it is. The lighting is okay but the seating in the bar area is not appropriate. The adjoining cafe has a better feeling. Ambience has a lot to do with making guests feel welcome - this staff doesn't understand the meaning of hospitality but they should not be blamed. It is clear they have no training and are not held to any standard. If you want to go to a great space, go to the Wallace Hotel around the corner (I am NOT affiliated with them... have just gone there many times). It is so sad to see a place with such potential be so poorly run, especially as they have such little competition. The Arthouse Bar has the potential to be THE leading cocktail/music/late-night bar on the Upper West Side.

Usually that would mean that service is faster as the staff are walking out of the kitchen, but the service here was unbearably slow. We had to crane our heads to get our orders taken, to find someone to give us our bill, and to ask about our order. We ordered a drink (the second drink was sold out and my friend was uninterested in other options) and two appetizers and the drink came first, followed by a twenty minute wait for calamari. The calamari was probably the thinnest squid in the ocean and looked like shoestring fries, but the sauce it came in was delicious. There were approximately three zucchini sticks and four peppers in the calamari, which is on par with many restaurants, but less bang for your buck. It eventually became clear after another 10 min wait that our truffle fries were nowhere to be seen, and since we had to leave for our dinner reservation soon we struggled to flag a server, who then told us that they never put in our fries order. We obviously did not ask them to start making it for us, instead asking for the bill and then leaving. I wish I liked this place more than I did, but the service and staff here were so slow and hard to flag down it felt like we spent our entire meal looking around.

We had an absolute blast from the moment we stepped inside. The whole experience--from the warm welcome at the door to the high-energy live music--was 10/10. The Food Experience: Truly Next Level The food here isn't just "bar snacks"--it's a full-on culinary experience. We tried several dishes and honestly, every single one was a hit: * Grandma's Sunday Sauce: This was the star of the show. It's pure comfort in a bowl and tastes like it's been simmering for days. * The Bacon: You can't go wrong here. It's perfectly prepared, smoky, and dangerously addictive. * The Burrata: So fresh and creamy--the perfect way to start the meal. * Crispy Shrimp: These had the perfect crunch and were packed with flavor. The Vibes & Service The host set the tone right away with a great welcome, and the service throughout the night was seamless. It's rare to find a spot that balances a sophisticated "speakeasy" atmosphere with such friendly, attentive staff. And of course, the music! The live band was electric and kept the energy high all night long. The "Roaring 20s" vibe is so well-done--it feels intimate but exciting at the same time. Final Verdict I would definitely suggest Prohibition to everyone! Whether you're a local or just visiting the city, this is the spot for great food, amazing service, and a vibe you won't find anywhere else. We'll definitely be back for more!
