They remain one of the more creative takes on ramen in the city, have an easy and fast order process, and are a convenient place for ramen in UWS, in an area where there aren't many good noodle soup choices. It's been years since I last ate at Jin Ramen, and on a weekend evening I found myself looking for dining in the neighborhood which led to a stop by here for takeout. Ordering online was easy, their website provides clear descriptions of each item with prices. They're available on almost all online platforms as well (Seamless/Grubhub, Caviar. DoorDash etc). Food was ready in 30 minutes, securely packed to go. Prices are definitely in the higher side and inflation hasn't helped. While the portion size is quite generous with plentiful chunks of tender chicken, caramelized onions, shiitake, scallions and tomatoes, $28 felt like a lot to pay for the Pollo Encebollado Ramen. The broth reminded me of a light salsa verde and was a flavorful albeit imo slightly too salty take. The chicken was delicious and definitely a highlight of this bowl. The Chicken Nanban $15 appetizer came with eight pieces of fried, marinated chicken, glazed in a tangy sauce. While tasty it was somewhat generic. The Kuro Shio Ramen $23 was a lighter broth, with several sizeable pieces of chicken, more of a classic flavor profile here with a tad hint of citrus and chili. The poached egg was cooked perfectly. I really appreciated the wide variety of veggie broths Jin Ramen had -- I'm used to only being able to order the singular vegetarian option at other places. They were playing Beyoncé the entire time I was there, so you know... brownie points immediately. Customer service was great, and this was actually the first restaurant I tried when I moved to New York. I had the Black Truffle Ramen... delicious, very filling, and honestly a lot of food! Ambience is really nice too, definitely good for a date night or even solo dining. I sat at the bar alone. The only downsides: prices are a bit high, and the menu has a lot of options (which can be great for some people, but a little overwhelming for me). All entrees come with a free yuzu which was delicious and very refreshing. The ramen came out very quickly and fast became my boyfriend's favorite. He finished his very quickly and he said it tasted like teriyaki to him which he loves. Mine was delicious as well but you must like a high amount of spice. The volcano house tare was a bundle of flavor and spice that went very well with the creamy broth. Price point was very reasonable and the amount of ramen you get is more than enough. I ordered the Spicy Tonkitsu - a flavorful tonkotsu broth with some spice to it. 2 small slices of cooked pork, bamboo shoots and a full bowl of noodles was inside. The broth was good and had a nice bite, it could have been a little less salty. The noodles over powered the dish. I know that's what ramen is, and it just doesn't do it for me. It's really cozy and kinda tight in there, but it is a vibe. My party ordered the green beans and the wings to start. Both were delicious, but the wings by far were my favorite. As for the ramen, they were good, not my favorite. The staff recommended what I got (sorry forgot the name), but I think that it lacked flavor. My partner took me to Jin Ramen for the nostalgia factor, as he used to come here very often when going to school with his friends. There was only one other party there when we came on a Saturday at 12pm. It says online that they have daily lunch specials, but it's only for weekdays. We ordered: Kara-age ($13) - Boneless fried chicken thighs sprinkled with togarashi. Served with spicy mayo dip, a side of slaw, and a slice of lemon. Chicken was juicy, with a good crisp. Shio Ramen ($18) - Included house noodles with a light, salt-based chicken broth infused with yuzu and togarashi. This was supposed to be a little spicy, but I didn't taste any spice. And I didn't taste yuzu in the broth. The half soft boiled marinated egg was delicious and I found the bamboo shoots very well marinated. The chasu had a good fattiness, but the lean parts tasted dry. The rest of the ramen was just okay. Solid ramen in UWS. When I came a few years ago and had their seafood ramen, it was the best thing I ever had. Now a few years later, I can confirm that the ramen was not as good as in my memory but it was still delicious nonetheless. I absolutely loved the broth as it was rich and the thin noodles clung to every part of it. Overall, not a bad place for ramen at all in UWS. I was not as hungry so I opted for the shio which I've only had shio ramen a handful of times before. It was delicious. Yuzu chicken paitan like broth but super savory and flavorful. Bo had the volcano tonkotsu, really rich and porky and delicious. We both had a side of more volcano paste, and honestly the amount of food was perfect. Nice lunch spot on a busy street in the Upper West side-- pork buns were by far my fav. So soft and tender, buns perfectly steamed and served with an amazing purple cabbage slaw. Edamame was salted with coarse sea salt which I appreciated. I think sadly the ramen and donburi were average. Good portion sizes and tasted good but nothing extraordinary in my opinion. The pork was well cooked and the flavors were the best of all the dishes. The kuro shio was not great either, since the noodles tasted very powdery and I was underwhelmed by the flavor. I had asked them to place the egg on the side, but they forgot to do so. There's a great range of vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and spicy dishes that are all well marked on the menu. Ordered the vegetarian ramen dish that tasted delicious. I get people want to go home, but it was a weekend and we had just arrived at 9:15. I have been to Jin Ramen a couple times, both at this location and the one near Columbia University. They have a pretty extensive ramen menu with some innovative flavors. I have tried the kuro tonkatsu which I thought was ok. This time, I tried the volcano tonkotsu and I thought the spice level was weak considering the name. My friend ordered the spicy tonkotsu and it looked and tasted pretty much the same, except the volcano had a small clump of chili that had to be mixed in before eating for an extra $2. I was also pretty underwhelmed with the broth as it lacked the complexity and umami flavor. Service was fine although we felt pretty rushed to leave even though the restaurant wasn't full. read more

This place is a touristy one stop shop for Thai, Filipino and Japanese food that they attempt to blend into Ramen. I won't even begin to elaborate on service. Let's just focus on food. For a $23 bowl ramen where the bill comes to $64 before tip for 2x bowl of noodles and 1x fried cardboard like potstickers they call Gyoza is absurd. We got Miso and Japanese curry ramen. You can tell they diluted miso and curry. So the flavor is a dash of miso or curry at best. Imagine going to Pasta shop and they gave you rice noodles with canned tomato sauce and meatballs with soy sauce flavor and they called the dish spaghetti. Or if you go to A Pho shop and they put egg noodles with 1/4 chicken broth and water, with diced leftover pork meat and call it rare beef pho. I love fusion food and I don't need a lot of sodium or sugar to taste food. So it's extremely disappointing when a restaurant call themselves ramen joint but their dishes are diluted with water and made it tasteless while they fill up the bowl with non essentials ingredients and charge you a premium. We can do better than this UWS. I won't be back again and nor should you if you live in NYC. You can get tasty authentic or fusion Ramen and plenty of good noodle spots near by without going near downtown or coming to this restaurant. Note, Restaurant ambience is nice, but not worth $64 before tip for 3 dishes. Service is .. let's put it this way without going into details.
