Ambience is nice! Tried Quiche and the jalapeno/pepper jack burger. Quiche was hot and filled with bacon, was wonderful with a cup of coffee on the side. Burger was okay. We've had better. The icing on the cake were these hot and fresh bread rolls (appetizer), they were as soft as a cloud when you eat them with the butter they serve on the side. We had a lovely time! read more

The food was amazing and the staff was pleasant and cheerful. We had the pleasure to speak with the owner who made us feel like we were part of her family. This is now our go to when visiting this part north of Dallas. As one who's been a part of several 5 star restaurant openings in Dallas, this place is for sure a destination if you plan on visiting Gainesville. Also, If you're looking for a quant little bed and breakfast, the upstairs has some serious history and is beyond well decorated. For certain our next stop when we visit these parts. Comment originally posted but removed from Sarah's facebook below: **We have gone into Sarah's lots over the years, even have them deliver to our jobsites at least once a month but this past Saturday, my family & I came in for an early lunch & it was, how do I put this, amateur hour... Our server was polite and sweet. We got our food in a timely manner. I had the soup and salad combo. Everything came out just fine, my oldest had the chicken sandwich, my youngest, the staple chicken strips, and my husband the chicken fried steak. Three bites into his steak I watched his face change from across the table to near throw up status. I looked down at his plate and a gigantic grey and black long hair came furling out of the batter on the steak. It was BAKED IN!. I got the servers attention & you could tell she was embarassed. I mentioned this was the 1st time in years of coming in and ordering to go, etc that anything like this had happened. She took the plate and said, "I am so sorry. Let me go talk to my manager." & left. They disappeared into the kitchen where the manager peered at us thru the keyhole window that leads into the kitchen. I watched as they spoke, and she even pointed to us. We sat. For 18 minutes...noone came to the table. My kiddos and I finished as my husband sat there... The manager purposely stayed away from the front avoiding us until the server walked out with another plate. Mind you, there were only 4 other tables at 1130am, so its not like shw was slammed... the server never asked him if he wanted another, just disappeared until another was ready. ...18 minutes later. He said,"Yeah im not hungry anymore. Can i just have a to go box I guess?" She obliged and when she came back with the box, dropped the check. Much to our surprise, the steak was still on the ticket, & it wasn't even discounted for having human hair Baked into the meat!!! I have worked in food & beverage for, no lie, 17 years, and having a manager avoid you like the plague when human parts are BAKED into your food instead of managerial intervention, apoligies, & offers to make it right is beyond unprofessional... Not hiding in the kitchen avoiding patrons.. I feel for this server. I even said something about the meal still going on the check, and she said sorry and walked away. She was tipped her 25%, but the comment card WAS filled out & I personally walked it to said "manager" and i use that term loosely whom was more worried about looking at her own reflection in the mirror behind the bar poufing/tousing her own hair instead of checking on patrons and taking 5 min to apologize for hairs IN OUR FOOD! I asked if she was the manager. She said. "YES, today." I handed her the comment card & informed her she should probably check yelp this afternoon for her review. We took a photo of the hair, the comment card & of the receipt. See below! So sad that one action can sour your stomach to a place you once loved to spend your money in, all because ONE manager wouldn't make it right. Even just an apology from management would have meant saving our business with this restaurant. Side note: the extra chicken fried steak went home to our dogs.They barely touched it.... My friend and I recently visited Sarah's on the Square and had a fine experience overall. I had the chicken salad and my friend had a burger. The chicken salad was good and tasted homemade. I really enjoyed the lemon bar for dessert as well. However, I will say it was quite warm inside when we visited, and I needed to fan myself with a menu. And the staff did seem like they were overwhelmed. Generally, the experience was good for what it was. The place is really cute, and the food tasted fresh and delicious. But a few tweaks in the management of the restaurant would certainly go a long way. I'd be willing to try this place again next time I'm coming through town. read more

What a quaint place! I ordered the quiche and my husband ordered the chicken spaghetti. The food was delicious and the wait staff was prompt and courteous. Apparently they have a flavored tea featured each day, so I enjoyed their raspberry tea. We visited this place on the way to WinStar and it was the perfect stop coming from the Dallas area. Cute little restaurant. Had a homey feel and the service was very friendly and the food was pretty good. We had a burger, chicken spaghetti, quesadilla, coffee, tea, and dessert. Burger was good, but I prefer a little harder bun. Chicken spaghetti was spicy. Quesadilla was bettter than normal and they added a nice spice to the sour cream. Dessert was delicious! Had heard good things about Sarah's. Not sure what was going n with the AC but it was so hot in there. Felt bad for the servers! The cocktails were awesome and so was the bartender. The carrot cake was delicious. The prime rib is only served medium? We've never heard of only medium prime rib. That unfortunately is what my husband ordered. No pink whatsoever on the meat. I had the salmon and I would say it was just ok. The mashed potatoes were good. Will give them another try once we get past the 100 degree weather! Salads looked amazing. read more

This is a very cute very clean and well organized restaurant on the square in Gainesville.. I have no idea why we waited so long to try this place .. waitstaff was friendly and efficient.. quiche , salad and chicken fried steak was ordered along with fresh brewed tea and an amazing peach tea.. no sweet tea available but sweetener and sugar was... all the food was great.. and the chicken fried steak could be cut with a fork. On our way home from Oklahoma, we found this jewel restaurant. Not too far off the highway either. Sure beats eating at a chain restaurant. It was 2:30pm and the place had two tables available. The service is poor. We have tried Sarah's 3 time in the past 2 months. Every time we ordered soup or salad before our meal and it never came. Then when you get your check they try to charge you for items never received. This happen all 3 occasions. The first time was the best. The atmosphere was nice, music was playing in the background. Dinner rolls (hot) were served. The subsequent visits, no music or rolls. We even asked our servers play music...we were just ignored. The food quality the first time was good. This place was less than good. The chicken spaghetti was nothing more than a processed Campbell soup, precook chicken, and spaghetti noodles. It came out missing ingredients listed on the menu. The "worlds best cheeseburger" was mediocre. The best part of the burger was the horseradish pickles. Homemade chips were stale and chewy. We walked in Sarah's when we found the place across the street was closed, and that's how you find a local gem! Set in a old saloon that was once had a brothel upstairs in the 1800's, the decor is historic and novel The service was great and the food fantastic! The burgers were great and the sweet potato fries were as well. We shared a bowl of the tomato gin bisque, it was some of the best bisque we have had. A small apology is owed, we forgot to take photos of the desert, as that we fell into them like a pack of wolves. Tiff had Italian creme cake and I had the buttermilk chess pie. Frankly the desert was so good we are convinced that they are holding a couple of grandmothers hostage in the basement and forcing them to bake all these fresh delights! read more

I went to Sarah's this past week the last week of January 2022. After looking over the menu I decided on the Prime Rib it was the most expensive item at about 20$. The service was great but the dish was a bit dry and not particularly tasteful however the sides were enjoyable and the overall experience and atmosphere was a nice change from what I've come to expect living in Gainesville most of my life. The desert selection was quite extensive and delicious I'll definitely be giving Sarah's another shot at 5 stars in the future! read more

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville. It's quite different from the other restaurants in the area. Warm and homely ambience makes the place very inviting. I usually go for the egg salad sandwich with a cup of crab and corn chowder. I've also tried the buffalo chicken wrap and the chicken spaghetti. The wrap was alright but the chicken spaghetti wasn't really memorable. The desserts at Sarah's though, takes the cake. My favorite is the Reese's peanut butter pie and the triple chocolate brownie. Make sure to split these with someone else or you won't be very productive in the afternoon. read more

Well I was told by Donna the owner to please try her place again. Of course it would have been nice to be offered something to offset my $14 I previously paid for nothing but being insulted. But no offer was made. Because I have so many friends in town that like it, I have been back. Again the quiche was absolutely full of big chunks of broccoli. My homemade quiche is way better, I could show them how to make it, it's hard to mess up but they seem too. I guess broccoli is cheaper than cheese. I've also tried the tuna salad sandwich and it was so dry I ate 1/4 because I was hungry. I've tried the tomato soup and just like other reviews it was full of huge chunks of tomato, when you remove them from your cup you end up with about two tablespoons of soup. NOT GOOD! I also tried a hamburger which was ok, kinda dry. Had no pickle which would have helped the dryness, so I asked for a pickle and was treated like I asked for cyanide or something. She told me they didn't come with pickles, like that was necessary. Then she brought me a slice of a sweet pickle. GROSS, why would I put a sweet pickle on a burger. Ok DONNA, you need to step it up, it's slipping!! Still miffed about paying you $14 and couldn't eat it!!! read more
