I grew up and lived in southern CA my whole life and moved here two years ago and this place is great. Whether the food is "authentic" or not depends on what you get. I ordered 5 tacos for me and my wife for $20 and it was amazing. Great value and they gave a ton of meat as well. The staff were also friendly and greeted you. The decor was also very nice and you felt like you're on vacation while you ate. This place is a great compromise for good Mexican food and 100% authentic. PS I ordered the chicken tacos which are bad anywhere you go around here but they were by far my favorite of any Mexican restaurant I've been to. This was a fun little stop! I went twice during the week, so that should say something. Both visits the team was super helpful and the service was great. I ordered at the counter and grabbed a seat the first day. I got an asada burrito. It was cooked well and full of meat. The salsa options put it over the top. I got to bounce back and forth between hot and cool. The decor inside is pretty cool, the tables are perfect for the venue. On the second visit I got a taco plate and it was done before I sat down! Had some pretty casual Mexican food. Invicto is another one of these such restaurants in Naperville. Basically you order at the counter. Kind of overpriced. They also have limited options for vegetarians it seems. Coming in here it kind of looks like a chain. It's just got a pretty corporate feel to it. This is apparently one location of a few in the suburbs. At least the food comes out fast. Has only a few tables. Basically why most orders are carryout. It's about $8 for a margarita. Comes in a regular pop cup. Fuck no. Also not that impressive of a flavor. Maybe not worthy of a glass. Basically people come here for the food. It's about $12 for the Taco Plate. Choose fillings. We got ours with the vegetables. Comes with beans and rice. Said the fried avocados have milk, so we didn't get those. Okay but basic. The rest of the menu has chicken and quesadillas. My husband and I have heard mixed reviews of invicto and finally decided to try it out for ourselves. This fast casual spot offers tacos, burritos, milkshakes, fries, etc. I would say it's a more upscale version of chipotle. The vibe is definitely of a taqueria. My concern though was I couldn't tell if chairs and tables were made to look rough or if the place was dirty. I'd say it was a mix of both. Service was fast - there are 2 kiosks where customers are able to put in an order. There is not a front counter with someone taking orders. After ordering, our food was ready within 3-5 mins. We both ordered the 1 taco and 1 quesadilla entree that comes with rice and beans. A cheese quesadilla and a chicken quesadilla cost the exact same. In my opinion, even if you don't want chicken you might as well get it and pick it off to give it to whoever you're with instead haha. I remembered liking the one in Vernon Hills, so I decided to go for it while I was in the neighborhood, but I was disappointed. The decor seemingly was exactly the same as the VH location. Relatively clean with a couple people dining in. Nothing funky. As per usual, I ordered using a kiosk. One kiosk had some issues with on-screen keyboard, where the bottom row didn't come up far enough for me to type the "@" symbol for my email address. A minor mishap, but the one next to it was working fine. I was with the family, so we ordered one birria plate, which came with two birria tacos plus rice n' beans, one deep fried avocado taco, two chicken tacos and one tostada. The place wasn't super busy, so food came out relatively quick. I saw a couple employees making food behind the counter, but didn't really interact with them. Not much to say about the service except.... All the food were salty beyond any flavor. I grew up in a household where I was taught not to leave any food on my plate. But by the time I was three-quarters done, I simply could not take any more bites and had to toss them. They have a wide variety of meat and vegetarian protein options for all food offerings. I loved the new addition of the salsa bar that was self serve. Also, don't skip out on the churro milkshakes! Tip: there is no one to take orders. They have kiosk computers in the corner that one orders at. The top of the screen will have the food categories. Once one selects: you choose your protein type, if you want it grilled or not, and sometimes what sides you'd like. It is the last screen where you can customize your order to exclude toppings. First off when I walked in. No hello. We waited to get our order taken patiently just to be yelled at: "Go over there. The screen." So we did. I have one rule for a restaurant: when I walk in and don't smell the food AND I am not greeted at all by anyone I walk out. I should've stuck to that. When you walk in you can't smell food and the ambience is dead. We ordered asada quesadillas with rice and fries and it came with chips. We also got asada nachos. Portions generous. Steak pretty much seasoned well. Chips so salty and so thick I almost broke a front teeth. Wouldn't have been so hard if they were fresh however the nachos chips were made out of a thick tortilla to begin with. Salsa bar is amazing every sauce was banging! Cheese for quesadillas so low quality. We didn't even finish them. The people that work here are mean. Got part of our order wrong and was reluctant to change it. This is the best Mexican food in Illinois. We've eaten here 5-6 times since trying it for the first time a few weeks ago. After trying Mexican food on the west coast, I was searching for a local place that's similar. I didn't even know if something like that existed. Went to invicto with one of my friends for lunch on a busy Saturday evening. There were TONSS of people, which is not a surprise because they truly have some of the best food in the area! I got the chicken nacho burrito and some elotes on the side. We also tried their horchata milk shake (not pictured). The burrito was veryyy delicious!! The chicken was seasoned perfectly and the blend of sauces inside went perfectly with their green and red salsas!! I would say that there were a lot more nachos than I expected inside the burrito. So in that case, I do like the California burrito with chicken a little more. But it was still a solid burrito. The elotes were AMAZINGG!! The creaminess and the crunchiness were literally in symbiosis (I KNOW BIG FREAKING WORD!!!) with one another!! *Online order review* I have to say, I don't often have success ordering Mexican for delivery, but Invicto did exactly what they needed to do! I ordered through Uber Eats and went with the chips and guacamole with a carne asada taco on corn tortilla. The chips are soooo good. When I think of a homemade, perfectly salted, *crunchy* tortilla chip, I would imagine Invicto's chips. They had all the right ingredients and truly tasted like they were made with love. The guac, however, was a little underwhelming. I really hoped it would pair perfectly with the chips, but I just ended up eating the chips on their own and throwing the guac on my taco. The food came perfectly packaged and warm when it arrived. Fun spot to grab fresh food! I came in for lunch and had the Taqueria Bowl with shrimp and added guac. The bowl was loaded with ingredients and tasted very fresh. The rice and beans base was very flavorful as were the shrimp. I do wish there were more shrimp especially with the $2 upcharge. Love the salsa bar and especially enjoyed the piña and verde. I got the Carne asada taco, and the crispy avocado taco in my taco plate. The rice: this is the best Mexican rice I've ever had. Even my friend, who doesn't like rice, liked it. I don't know how this place has high reviews, this was disgusting! It takes a lot for me to feel the need to review a place. I ordered two tacos, chips and queso, and a margarita. The only thing edible was the chips and queso. The tacos were so bland, I don't think any seasoning was added to the meat and the margarita was so gross I had one sip and decided I'd eat the $10 I spent on it and throw it away. It tasted like straight sour mix and was neon green which already was a sign it was going to be nasty. Taco Bell is way better than this. read more

Invicto was an interesting experience. I was intrigued by other reviews online, but a little put off by the images of what appeared to be card tables in the dining room. Walking in it appeared as expected, although if I hadn't read those reviews, I wouldn't have known to proceed to the computers in the corner to place my order. The ordering process went smoothly, the options and prices were clear, except for some clunkiness at the end which instructed me to print my receipt to get my order number. And that's what it felt like -- a number. No one asked my name, it was unclear if humans were running the establishment, and no one really spoke. Some human connection would have been nice after a lonely few days of business travel. While waiting for my food, I noticed the dirty tables, load music, and curious dystopian bar that begged to be walked away from. They called my number, gave me my food and an empty cup and I proceeded to the soda fountain which.......sprayed watery Diet Coke all over me and the floor. I was intrigued by this place after seeing the online reviews. Went inside and the place looks NOTHING like the reviews. There were barely any people inside. I ordered my food online and went to the restaurant to pick it up. I stood there for five minutes waiting for someone to help me. One woman behind the counter kept looking at me but never once asked if I needed help. One of the cooks came around and asked. And told me my order was on the other side. Almost walked out realizing and forgot my drink. Had to wait another five minutes for my shake to be made. In ordered the nacho burrito with chicken. There were a couple of small pieces of chicken but mostly filled with rice and queso sauce. Also the shake wasn't that great. I will never go back here again after that experience. You can get corn or flour and protein option. The fun difference is they had fried avocados as an option. We tried the chicken and steak tacos, flour and corn tortillas. The tacos were trickled with onions, cilantro and a very nice sauce. The menu board doesn't tell you specifics on what's in the menu items. I didn't ask which is unlike me. There was allot of fresh cut corn in with the meat and the sauce. I usually omit corn so that was a little bit of a bummer but I didn't ask. I didn't put the oil on my salad, I put the quesadilla sauce on it which was really nice. LOVED the fries! Crunchy, flavorful and thick. Great guacamole. My husband was bummed the tortilla chips were not complimentary. They have shakes, pie and alcoholic drinks. Our kids had the Mexican soda and wanted some of the fun Mexican candy after but were sugared up so much from the soda that wasn't needed. I had a taco plate and at first bite knew immediately that I under-ordered. More tacos is what I wanted... more! Going with the steak and the shrimp I was not disappointed. Each one was so tasty! However, I have to say the shrimp is better. What really makes them is the sauce; no clue what it is but it will change your life. Accompanying them was rice and beans that hold their own.
