I read numerous negative reviews of this place before eating there. We wanted pasta (carbo loading for a race the next day), and this was the only Italian place available. The other one was closed. The food was absolutely fine! It wasn't bad at all. The price, however, was out of line with the quality. Too expensive. I suspect that is the root of so many negative reviews. The food was good, just not anything special. Of course, this is a tourist town, and all prices are inflated everywhere around here. So, no complaints. read more

This was a good restaurant with great food. Downsides was that the food was a little on the expensive side. Also, there were a lot of waiters there however, the service wasn't good. There is a waiter who goes around refilling waters and gives more breadsticks to customers. He is good with his job but takes the job a little too serious. We were eating our food and I took a sip out of my glass and he saw so he came and reached over our plates of food to refill my cup when it didn't need it. Nor did he ask if I wanted a refill. Visited this very pretty restaurant on a Friday eve. The host and servers do need to get their training from The Fields restaurant as their was not a smile among the bunch. When we did not order a drink it was if we insulted them. The salad was very good. The breadsticks were....how do I describe them...like biting into air. No taste or substance. We both ordered the broiled cod off of their Friday fish fry. It came with tasty snap peas and a baked potato. The cod was overcooked, chewy and not edible. We should have sent it back but did not bother. When a dessert menu was placed in front of us without a word being said, we declined and the waiter grabbed the menus and walked away abruptly. Stopped here in our way home from La Crosse to Milwaukee since we don't like fast food and try to avoid chain restaurants. The cheese stuffed ravioli was a hit with my 10 year old. The chicken alfredo off the kids menu was a good sized portion and got the thumbs up from my 8 year old. The eggplant parmesan and veal piccata were both very flavorful and tasty. The slight hint of red wine in the veal sauce added a nice touch. Lots of mushrooms in the veal, which was fine by me but might have been too much for some others. The place with good reviews across the street was closed so we decided to go here despite the bad reviews. The service was good but the food was awful. The alfredo was all flour and completely bland. The chicken in the alfredo tasted like really bad turkey lunch meat which is the best description I can give it. I hate to see a business that has great potential fail so miserably but if they want to charge $19 for a dish they better make sure it's worth it. read more

My daughter and I had dinner here earlier in the week and had a very enjoyable experience. The service was good- the different courses spread out like they should be- not rushed. Nice cozy atmosphere and very good food. Being from NJ standards are pretty high when comes to Italian food. The minestrone soup in particular was excellent. Definitely recommend. read more

We were seated quick on a Saturday night. The waiter was a younger guy who was awkward & really not that friendly. Bread was not given to our table until we asked. Went there with the family on our most recent trip to the Wisconsin Dells. It was our first time visiting this restaurant and my expectations weren't too high based on the mediocre reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The food and service were both excellent. And, for the portion sizes, prices were very reasonable. My wife ordered eggplant Parmesan and I ordered the Mediterranean chicken. The eggplant was huge and cooked perfectly, crisp on the inside and covered with plenty of sauce and cheese. My chicken was also cooked perfectly over a bed of linguine. It was very flavorful. Kids under 11 eat for free, which we thought was very generous. Our kids ordered cheese pizza and spaghetti and both were very tasty. And the breadsticks are amazing. We polished off the first basket quickly and asked for a second, which they provided without any issue. The best part was dessert, all of which they make themselves. My wife and I ordered the Limoncello cheesecake. My kids ordered the cookies and cream ice cream cake and were disappointed when the server said that was the one dessert they were out of. The kids didn't want a substitute, so we promised them ice cream when we got back to the hotel. Well, we were all super surprised when the server brought both desserts to the table!! She saw how disappointed our kids were and one of the staff drove across the street to their sister restaurant, which has the same cookies and cream cake on their menu, to pick up a slice. The kids were grateful and made short work of the cake. Overall it was an excellent experience and we will definitely go back on our next visit to the Dells. read more

Really glad that my husband mentioned he wanted Italian for dinner tonight and we decided to give Sarento's a try. On a cold February, Sunday night, the cozy ambiance was very inviting. We were seated promptly & the service was very attentive (almost too attentive) I ordered the linguini & clams with a tasty, creamy white wine sauce & my husband had the chicken Marsala, which he liked a lot, but the creamy Marsala sauce, which the waiter prepared us for, was super sweet. We upgraded one of the included salads to the Caprese salad, which we both loved! We topped off the night with their after dinner cappuccino cocktail and overall, we were very satisfied with our experience. read more

The food & atmosphere are very good, but this review is mostly about the service. The table service was great, but they really went above and beyond after we had left. My 9-year-old daughter left her cardigan there, which we discovered only after we were well on our way home from the a few days in the Dells. We thought we'd call just to see if it was there, which is was, and they graciously agreed to mail it to us - pretty unheard of for a busy restaurant in a tourist area. I thought we'd get it eventually - maybe - so was pretty shocked when it arrived at our home 2 days later via FedX! I would have given 3 stars but because it was so expensive, I'm giving it two stars. We ordered two hand-tossed 14 inch pizzas, one cheese and one Philly cheesesteak pizza for takeout. We also ordered 3 appetizers. I didn't eat the Philly cheesesteak, but the consensus was it was not good. The cheese was edible. Our total was $72. Papa Johns would have been better. Delicious! The menu is quite extensive (or maybe I'm just used to the snobby Chicago Italian restaurants) and the entrees are very tasty. The prices are a little bit expensive (between $15 and $30 per entree, not too horrible), but for a great romantic dinner, it can't be beat. The decor is beautiful and very welcoming... a little break from the cheesy neon lights along WI Dells parkway. It almost seems like we should have been dressed a little nicer than we were, but everyone there (being on vacation, I guess) was wearing shorts and t-shirts (we wore the same but felt way underdressed). I don't really recommend this restaurant for families with kids, but it's very good for couples looking for a bit of sanity in this giant tourist trap they call the Dells. I recommend the three-cheese ravioli or the stuffed shrimp... mild, yet delicious! Overall, very nice restaurant... almost like a vacation from your vacation :) read more

The Sarento's salad is so divine. It is amazing, hands down the best salad I've ever had.

Food was average but expensive for what you get. My wife got s seafood pasta dish, when it arrived the scallops had a strong fish odor. We didn't make a stink but, we told the waiter, he didn't know what to do. Then I think one of the managers (she sounded Russian) stopped by our table, she said their scallops smell fishy "It's normal" and "nothing is wrong" ok. The wait staff was good. This is the summary if you dont want to read the whole story: 3 tables besides us in the entire restaurant, 10 waiters did nothing. 15minutes until drinks, wrong food order, 10-20minutes until we saw a waiter after we got our food to correct order, we asked for our problem to be fixed, they laughed in our face & did nothing & didnt care. Worse customer service than a hot dog stand in new york. Oh, and after reading the reviews, we had no clue they gave breadsticks there because they didnt give us any. Lazy, incompentent jerks. My mom & I were really wanting some Alfredo so we decided to go here. We got there right as it opened. There were three other people at the restaurant at that time and we saw at least 10 waiters there. After 5 minutes of waiting we got our drink order. After 10 more minutes, we got them & got to order. I order Chicken Alfredo and my mom ordered the Vegetarin Alfredo, no chances or modifcations to our order. When the meal came out, there was red sauce on my mom's order. She was about to say something (since alfredo is suppose to be white) but the waiter bolted away & into the back. So we waited and waited. Finally, we just started sharing mine together & we did not see any waiter (even one beside ours) until we had finished my meal completely which was about 10minutes later which was sad since they were anything but busy. The waiter finally came out & asked how everything was and my mom said that they had messed up her order. The waitress's reply was "oh" and a blank stare. So my mom said we were full from my eating my food so we didnt need it fixed, just taken off the check. Waitress's reply: "Oh I'm sorry, that's against policy". No but we can do this... just ha ha you're screwed. So my mom asked to speak to the manager since the waitress obviously hadnt been through her customer service training yet and we werent getting anywhere. The manager says the same thing about not being able to take it off the bill but would we like it to go? Well since we were on vacation & didnt have a fridge or a microwave we said no & it was ridiculous they can't take it off the bill (because what happened if a waiter added something accidentally). Then mom my got mad (which never happens) and demand something be done because we werent going to give them $17 for them messing up. They offered us a gift card. Even if we had wanted to come back, we couldnt have because we were on vacation & it was our last day. Then they offered us free desserts, which we didnt want because we were full & were a bit scared of what would be done to them since we were obviously not being taken care of nicely to our faces. But we took them anyway because they werent going to give us anything else, but threw them away just so we got more money out of them. In retro spec, we should have "dropped" them by their front door just to tick them off since they were so rude. Thing is, this would be a 5 star review if they had just taken the stupid thing off our bill because my alfredo was one of the best I have had in my life. But I wouldnt risk going here again if I was ever in town because it might cost me an extra $20 for a meal they messed up & wouldnt give us anything for our extreme inconvience. read more

AVOID! Went to the dells with the family and ordered two pizzas from here as we usually do. Told them one pizza was to be on a card, and one was to be charged to the room. A few days later, I see that BOTH pizzas were charges to my card, which ended up making me have a overdraft charge. I emailed and explained the charge to the management. They replied and asked me what I wanted to be done about it, so I told them I wanted a refund for the issue. They then ignored this, as well as multiple emails after this. Another issue is that I bit down on a kalamata olive pit this last time. It hurt, but it didn't do any damage, luckily for them. I told them of this issue as well. read more

Decided to go here for a date night on Friday. Got dressed up, expected better. No hostess at the front of house to be greated or to be seated. Waited 5 minutes for the 2 hostesses to come out. Had to wait another few minutes while one hostess went to check to see if there was a table available. They had the bar area with loud music and a private room. They sat me and my husband in the bar area. Received menus. Ordered drinks. About 10 minutes later, brought bread sticks to our table. The bread sticks were good. Apple Sour was ok, felt more chunky with ice. Ordered our meals. Came with house salad. Quite honestly, it was just a store bought salad. Nothing spectacular. Food came 20 minutes later. I ordered the Chicken Parm. Gross, really. Checked was sledged, no breading, poor red sauce, and slabbed on top a thick layer of parmesan cheese. Husband ordered the Chicken Marsala. Another two thumbs way down. Malated chicken, you could still see the indents from the mallet when you flipped the chicken over. Sauce was horrible. No seasoning in anything. And the portions of the food were miniscule for the price and quality. We had no idea who our server was, each time someone different brought us our food and drinks. There was a super long lull. No server came back to ask us how our food was. If we wanted a refill or more drinks. We had to get the attention of a server to finally get more drinks. While eating, we looked over and noticed another couple sitting in the quiet room. Finally, a server came over with the dessert menu which we declined. Came back with the bill, paid, and left. I would not go back. Gordon Ramsey would be fuming. And I'd hate to see what their freezer looks like :/ read more

We were staying at the Wilderness on the Lake with three families and went to the Friday night fish fry. Outstanding fried cod. The kids ordered pizza and loved the veggie pizza. I went last night with a large group to celebrate my mom's 60th Birthday. The food was delicious and got rave reviews from my family, with the exception of Chicken Marsala. The two family members that ordered it reported that it was not a traditional Marsala (it had a brown creamy sauce that they were not expecting). The lasagna and sausage and peppers pasta dish were amazing. Salads were crispy and tasty. Breadsticks were warm, yummy, and endless. The service was fantastic from the waiter to the hostess who took our group photo and gave us birthday candles to use on the cake we had back at our cabin. We would go back again for sure. read more

We ate here on vacation in the winter since there was a shuttle from the Wilderness. The restaurant reminded us a lot of olive garden. The decorations were very cheesy. They try to seem upscale but they should stop pretending. The food wasn't bad. I had the Friday fish fry and while it wasn't the best I have had it was pretty good. My only worry was the tartar served to me was warm so I didn't eat it. The kids loved their pizza. We also enjoyed the breadsticks that came before the meal. read more

Although, while we waited for our table my little sister was looking at the stained glass mural on the outside of the building and accidentally touched a broken part and was cut. Worst experience I have had at a restaurant. Walked in and was instantly treated with disrespect, assuming due to me being a younger individual. Had a group of 8 of us, was greeted by our waiter and had him take our order and didn't see him once afterwords. The bus boy dropping off Salads and entrees, had a single drink on the table and asked for a re fill, took my glass never got it when the server stands there the whole time just laughing and staring at our table, i proceed to go up and ask for the drink and they make a big joke about it, never had anyone come up and ask how are food was , and let me tell you was less than satisfied with the extremely over priced food, hard noodles, very very little meat. in my opinion that's a real kick in the pocket and not at all satisfying, after being done eating and sat with empty plates for at least 10 minutes, decided to take it upon a manager. he was very kind but didn't seem to kick anything into gear or do anything for us piss poor service and dining experience from a guy who eats out at nice dining 5+ a month. Hope others have a better experience but I known it was the worst waste of 60 dollars for my girlfriend and I, will NEVER be back! read more

The only positive that came from Sarentos was a nice night out with my mother. She's a huge fan of this place but after this past visit I doubt that either of us will ever return. Upon arrival the establishment seemed nice enough, but upon entering the diningroom it was obvious that this was a subpar Italian restaurant. Low budget decor at best. The waitstaff was ok but it was rather confusing as to who was actually our server. Seemed like ever girl there wanted a shot at the tip. The breadsticks really exactly like Fazolis and the food wasnt much better either. We both ordered glasses of wine and I was satisified with my Prosecco, the mothership had a red. The crock of french onion soup was subpar at best. The onions weren't throughly cooked and the cheese was crap. After all this is WISCONSIN lets at least get the cheese right. I would exect an Italian place that touts themselves as amazing to at least make homemade Ravoli, I was wrong and glad that I didnt order them. The dinner menu seemed to be the typical but needs some more vegg options and less veal. I ordered the stuffed shrimp ap and my mother had a trio of 3oz filets with paired sauces. The salad I ordered never came until I was well into my meal. The shrimp were good but for the price I expected them to actually be jumbo. The steaks were ok at best. The $30 price tag is no match for this subpar want to be fancy dish. The cuts were cooked accurately but the meat was simply DRY. The sauces were ok but obviously not made in house. In a state where sides are the norm this dish was meat and sauce only. The bill came to $70+ for two with the tip. I would have much rather spent that money elsewhere. This place is not worth the time and a complete waste of money. Diners beware. read more

Had the spaghetti & meatballs and tiramisu delivered to the wilderness resort and was super pleased. Spaghetti was perfectly cooked, meatballs were well seasoned and not dry. You will love the ambiance of this Italian restaurant. Whether a romantic evening out or a fun group, you won't be disappointed. They brought breadsticks right away and the service was personal, friendly and prompt. They split a Ceasar salad for us at no extra cost. If the restaurant is full, try a table in the bar. I haven't eaten elsewhere in the Dells so maybe this is as good as it gets -- if so, pack a lunch before you go, because Sarento's is pretty poor. I had the tagliatelle bolognese, which reminded me very much of creamed chipped beef on toast with pasta instead of the toast. I like creamed chipped beef, but not for $17.95. Much food was left on plates here -- I was told that the pizza had OK toppings but a bad, processed-tasting crust. One of my companions was given a glass with lipstick on it, and another got a napkin from which two earwigs crawled out when she unfolded it. So, we went in the winter during the annual Flake Out Fest. One of the girls at the front desk from our hotel recommended this place. The food here was fantastic. I upgraded my salad to their Sarento specialty salad. It was very cold, crunchy and delicious. I ordered the Cannelloni which was out of this world. My husband ordered the Penne with sausage and it was also very good. The creme brulle dessert was to die for. We were not expecting such good food from a place in the Dells, so this was quite the surprise for us. Also, the house wine (Merlot and Cabernet) were very good. The service was also great. I would definitely return here and recommend it if you love Italian food. read more

Not very good. Stayed at the wilderness and ordered delivery to our room. 1 lasagna $16.95 came with a small side salad, 1 pizza, and a kids spaghetti with meatballs. The kids spaghetti was ridiculously small, came with nothing, no bread, drink, side salad and had maybe 2 tbsp. of sauce on it. The lasagna was not very good, kind of dry and to be honest if we weren't so hungry we probably would not have eaten it. The pizza was nothing special. All in all $43.00 I would much rather have spent at someplace else. Will not try it again. read more
