We understand that complications can happen in any surgery. What has been most disappointing is how everything was handled afterward. The recovery records document that my mother reported severe pain during surgery, rated her pain 10/10, described the procedure as extremely painful, and wanted to file a complaint. The nursing notes also state that the surgeon and anesthesiologist explained the procedure had to be stopped before the lens could be implanted. Yet the operative report contains no meaningful discussion of the severe pain or why the surgery could not be completed. We were left piecing together hundreds of pages of medical records instead of receiving clear answers. Since that day, my mother has undergone multiple procedures, repeated specialist visits, and prolonged treatment. A woman who could once thread a needle and drive independently can no longer pass a DMV vision test because of her vision loss. Patients deserve honesty, compassion, accountability, and transparency when complications occur. Unfortunately, that was not our family's experience.

Unfortunately, my recent experience with Dr Eslani at American Eye Associates in National City fall into this level. Here's what happened: My Glaucoma condition was under control when I had my eye examined by my ophthalmologist in San Francisco Bay in late January. I was instructed to see a Glaucoma specialist to monitor my condition, however. So I made an appointment to see Dr. Eslani. On my first 50-minute visit at this office in July, my eyes were examined only by the staff technicians but not by Dr. Eslani, and I was told to come back another time for a thorough exam. However, this office had issues clarifying my insurance authorization status, and was unable to schedule my appointment till November 5. When I went in, three different assistants measured various aspects of eyes inserting the numbing drops into my eyes three times during these exams before they finally got to the field vision test. The staff member who set this FV testing system was unable to set it up properly, and moved me and the system every time I squinted. Then they finally dilated my eyes at 4:10 pm, which disabled me to drive home in the dark. Ten minutes later, Dr. Eslani finally looked into my eyes, but only shined the light in a few directions and not as thoroughly as other ophthalmologists have done in the past. Around 4:30 pm, Dr. Eslani comes back to the office where I was waiting, and said that he has bad news for me. He proceeded to tell me I am going blind and that the only hope is to start receiving his laser treatment periodically without any guarantee of improvement. Then he filled the prescription for a $90/bottle eye drop even with my Medicare coverage. His staff scheduled a follow up visit for December 3. Desperate and shocked, I had to arrange for a $60 ride back home because I could not drive with my dilated eyes in the dark. Somehow, I felt Dr. Eslani's diagnosis was incorrect. To get a second opinion, I made an appointment with the well respected Glaucoma specialist at UCSD who was able to see me on December 3. She and her competent assistant thoroughly examined my eyes which only took 20 minutes if not less without any 'numbing drops'. Then the doctor told me that my eyes are fine with good pressure readings. The only thing she recommended was a quick YAG capsulotomy procedure to remove the slight cloudiness in my left eye. If you need your eyes examined for Glaucoma, by all means, avoid Dr. Eslani and American Eye Associates.

The day of the appointment I got called 20 mins before during their lunch time and they left a VM canceling my appointment because of not having a referral. I immediately called back within 2 mins of them leaving me the voicemail and no response because they were on lunch. I left a VM requesting to speak to their manager and never received a call back. MY experience might not be like YOUR experience and totally understand that. This is my own account of the experiences and interactions I have had with this office and the Doctor herself and after I have seen the reviews on yelp I thought it was unfair to this doctor to give a bad review when in all my experience has been nothing but good. I'm in 40's and before the laser treatments my skin was somewhat dull and uneven color, some pigmentation in my forehead, some pores I considered large around my nose but and now the results have been nothing but exceptional. I was referred to her office by one of my coworkers and was at a time when I was contemplating the idea of having a chemical peel done at home after seeing unevenness and hyperpigmentation at my face. I could see and tell my coworker "had something or was doing something done to his face " and changed my mind about buying the chemical peel at amazon and decided to make an appointment at her office. Her staff is very nice, warm and welcoming; addressing me by my name; not the name they think I could be or should be called like. I'm half Japanese and Half Latina and wanted someone that could understand and target the areas I was concerned with ( syringoma, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone ). She has; no doubt about that. I just wrapped my 4th session with Doctor Tamoria and I have been nothing but happy with the results. Results are louder than complain that the office this, the office that, blah blah; stuff. Dr. Tamoria has been very personable to ME. Yes, I have waited more than I should but the way I see it is that the " patient needs to be patient". Having to find parking is also a pain but that's not the issue here, The main issue for her to fix your skin and for one to do one's homework and follow up her directions by the book and YES; It has worked for ME and my results are quite visible now and my proof are the pictures I would like to attach to this review. ( and I'm not even done with the treatment; YET ) Laser resurfacing is an expensive procedure and you actually need whatever skin care products she's recommending. The one benefiting from using the products is ultimately " YOU ". It's not a cheap system but " HELLO !!! " you need to protect your investment by investing in a maintenance kit. One can always decline the offer and not get it but then you'd be gambling with the treatment itself. The reality of the matter the skin care system that she recommends is not and does not come cheap; that's the actual price for it. One's got to do a lot of things to make one's skin glowy and luminous and you don't want to take it back to the sun and continue your old ways to just start all over. My pics speak for themselves. I will be filing a grievance with my health plan against this provider office. I don't recommend that any one chooses this provider as their Primary Care Physician.
