It's in the mall, it's fast, and it's cheap. Sarku is the cornerstone of any decent mall. The have the huge flat top grill to cook the heaps of veggies and chicken. And their teriyaki sauce is the best! Not too sweet or too thick. Sure, the raw chicken looks gross as they slap it on the grill, but once it's cooked, it is some of the best chicken around. They also offer teriyaki beef and/or shrimp and you can choose from lo mein noodles, fried rice, and white rice. The egg rolls are average and they offer (with the chicken only 1.69, beef for 2.99 and shrimp 2.09) a double meat option for less than a couple dollars extra. It definitely beats the other offerings in the mall unless you have time for a sit down meal at Sesame or the new Tattooed Moose.

Chicken was solid but they gave a much smaller portion than seen in other reviews. Maybe I came at a bad time?

I dropped by just because of the name since I just came back from Japan and learned what Maguro…read more(tuna) meant. The bar is hidden away in a parking lot where it is difficult to turn into from the other side of the road because of a barrier so you have to make a u turn up the road a little bit. The place itself is kind of small. I sat at the bar but I'm not sure why but it felt a little off. It didn't feel like a normal sushi bar where I felt like I was able to see the chef prepare the food I'm not sure if there was some kind of height disproportion or if the glass with food was blocking the way. The staff was friendly but there did seem to be some kind of miscommunication between the server and the chef when they were doing hand offs on top of the bar. It might be better to do food handoffs at the open corner to the side so the waitress didnt have to reach high and over customers although maybe it is different when it is busy since I was the only one at the bar. The food itself was delicious although I must admit I can't tell the difference between normal sushi. I would rate this as normal sushi. To put things in perspective bad sushi would have dried out rice or fish that tastes a bit off in a bad way. Amazing sushi would be something that just tastes so different but in a good way. Could be a cute casual date spot or even a friend group meet up spot. Keep in mind the space is limited but it shares the menu and space with Taste of Thai next door. I havent been into Taste of Thai yet so I can't talk about the spacing in there.

The Sushi was disappointing…read more At the last second the wife decided to go to Maguro Sushi Bar for her birthday instead of one downtown on East Bas she had been looking forward to, and I am sorry to say it was disappointing. The first thing of note are the prices which are very reasonable. In fact the nigiri was so low I had to confirm it was for 2 pieces and not just one The restaurant is smallish but comfortable. They also share a hallway with their sister restaurants a taste of Thai, and as i understand it, you can order from both restaurants, regardless of which one you are eating at Regarding the Sushi itself there was some good, but there was also some average, and some very bad. I will go from worst to best. We started buy getting two orders of Tobiko. They had an option of Red, Green and Black. We have never had Black Tobiko (infused with squid ink), so we ordered Green and Black. The waitress got it wrong and gave us Red instead of Block . We should have sent it back, but we do like the red so we kept it. BIG MISTAKE. Normally a red Tobiko has a slight smokey flavor, but this was so over the top I wasn't sure if it was unique flavor to this restaurant or bad fish eggs. The wife thought so little of it she spit it out. The Green wasn't bad, but we were already on a downhill slide Next was two Eel handrolls which we normally love. Mine was OK, but The wife's Eel looked, and she said tasted raw and so this was another dish she could not eat. Next on the not so great list was the Ginger. Something else we normally love, but this Ginger was an odd darker shade pink to Red and had an funny taste to it. The Rainbow Roll was not bad, but I personally never had it with Shrimp. I am assuming they use Shrimp to lower the cost, but my preference isn't to have Shrimp as one of my fishes on a Rainbow roll. The spider roll we order was decent, but could have used some Eel Sauce on it. We tried something new for us which was the Salmon Tempura Roll. This consisted of Salmon tempura, crab, cucumber, avocado, masago, teriyaki. Neither of us have had Salmon tempura so it was not only unique but very good. We both loved the light crunch of the tempura fired Salmon. It has been many years since we ordered salmon skin, so we got 2 hand rolls. This was the star of the night. The roll was loaded with wonderful crispy salmon skin with Masago, scallion, spicy mayo. The wife usually does not like spicy mayo, but in this case, it paired really nice with the crunch of the skin. So yea some good, some medium, and some really bad.

We sat at the sushi bar, which I highly recommend, and from the moment we sat down it was clear we were in good hands. We were surprised right away with a complimentary amuse‑bouche--crab stick rolled with salmon--which was a thoughtful and delicious touch. To start, I ordered the seaweed salad while Justin went with the ginger salad; both were fresh, balanced, and a perfect lead‑in to the sushi. For the main event, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and eel nigiri, and this is where Zen really shined. The spicy tuna roll was exactly what sushi lovers hope for--very light on rice and heavy on fish, something that's surprisingly hard to find around Charleston. The eel nigiri was rich, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Justin ordered several pieces of sashimi and was equally impressed. We asked about albacore tuna (unfortunately unavailable), but were told the salmon was excellent--and moments later, we were unexpectedly served two additional pieces of sushi each. Completely unexpected and incredibly appreciated, especially for a birthday celebration. Between the quality of the fish, attention to detail, and warm hospitality, Zen Asian Fusion absolutely won us over. We've officially found our new sushi spot and can't wait to come back.
