Wanted teriyaki chicken for dinner tonight and decided to have it delivered from Sarku Japan at Valley Fair. I've been eating at Sarku at various malls for many years and can almost always depend on having a good meal. I had the standard chicken teriyaki with mixed vegetables and steamed white rice. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with an extra container of sweet teriyaki sauce, which I don't remember ever receiving previously. Overall it was delicious, except a few of the chicken pieces were overcooked and chewy. The extra sauce came in handy (would have liked even more) and I thought the mixed veggies and rice were well cooked. It was a decent sized meal that filled me up. read more

This place is my go to when I'm here shopping at the mall. The portions here are huge at a very decent price. Me and my hubby will sometimes split a chicken teriyaki plate and share it as long as I don't douse it in chili sauce. The lines can get long but it moves fairly quickly because they are cooking teppanyaki style. Tender, juicy meat over rice, you can't go wrong ! read more

8.2/10 Got the Chicken Teriyaki with double chicken and double veggies, and I opted out of the rice. The chicken was cooked well and the veggies were fresh and nicely done. Portions were generous, and I felt full and satisfied after the meal. That said, I'd honestly recommend getting the rice, it would've absorbed the teriyaki sauce and added more texture to the dish. Even without it, I really enjoyed the meal and will definitely be back. Service-wise, there was a long line but it moved quickly. Sarku Japan will always be a place that I know will have a solid quality of food to quantity ratio. Between the beef and chicken, I'd lean more towards the beef even though I usually prefer chicken because the sauce is just so good and makes it much juicier. The workers here are very friendly, and it's fun watching them cook the food in front of you. You can even ask them for extra sauce on top of the meat and rice and they'd gladly give it to you, free of charge. read more

No bang for extra bucks ($3 MORE),!! Came to Sarku, which we do.pretty much every other week! Tonight was THE WORST!! Normally,mom have me add extra chicken to her order. Almost every time the manager would admit it and would have the staff ad at least a half scoop more, afterall, $3 more is almost 25% more than the regular price!! I guess the staff threatened to quit, if management didnt side with them? The foodcourt can be overwhelming with all the different options, yet Sarku Japan always hits the spot. You will encounter somewhat of a long line, but it moves fast and I take it as an indicator that you made the right choice. It is difficult to find another place with the same portions, price, and quality. read more

Yummy Teriyaki! I stopped by Sarku Japan while I was at Westfield mall. They are located in the food court on the second floor. Didn't really know what to eat that's a slam dunk, so I thought I'd tried chicken Teriyaki as it's one of my favorite dishes to eat. And wow, I hit a jackpot! This chicken Teriyaki was so flavorful and tender that I wanted to get another one to take home. The chicken was cut in little pieces, that I like, as it makes it easier to chew and eat. But one of the best parts is Sarku Japan is not stingy when it comes to serving size so the price is a good value! I will definitely return again because of the yummy chicken and the generous serving! The only negative part is I live in the east bay! But will definitely return again whenever I'm in San Jose! read more

Here is my two cents on the quality quantity in price of my order.... It was delivered by GrubHub in a timely manner... thank you GrubHub... This is the first time me eating. Sarku Japan... they were offering buy one get one free of teriyaki chicken.. plus I also bought two egg rolls .. The egg rolls were satisfactory, but they are only medium hot, not very hot temperature wise.. I also requested extra chicken and they gave me lots of extra chicken. I was impressed... they also gave me without asking soy sauce, but I also asked for hot sauce in which they complied... I also requested fried rice... I get this often when I want a quick lunch break during shopping. It's a decent quick meal. They make the food on a grill and have most of it ready. Only time you have to really wait is during the lunch and dinner rush. The go to dish is teriyaki chicken. I tried the others (shrimp and beef) it wasn't that good. You can swap rice for noodle (+0.80) which I always do. I also recommend getting extra sauce. Just ask for it at the end. The downside is that the veggies are always soggy as it's frozen veggies. It's not the best but a decent quick and affordable meal. read more

Sarku Japan has been a go to comfort food since elementary school, one of my fav mall food places for sure. I remember when they used to do the samples of teryaki chicken on a mini uncooked pasta . This place gives so much nostalgia. I recommend the noodles option over the rice. What I love about this is how simple this dish is and you can get your source of protein, carb and veggie in one dish. The food still is banging and its still super affordable. I came here today trying to pick up my order and was asking the lady how long it would take to see if we had time to get drinks and jay working the register started yelling at us and saying how he already told us it wasn't ready and it wasn't gonna be ready until a little bit we never heard him say it the first time and he came off really aggressive when he didn't need to be luckily the lady was nice enough but overall just a rude experience from him read more

By far THE BEST Sarku Japan location when it comes to quality and taste!! Believe me, i've pretty much had it all and NOTHING COMPARES. If you don't want to take my word for it, the continuous long lines should speak volumes. Portions are big, granted we always order 2 types of protein vs the typically 1. I always make it a habit of paying a bit more to substitute the typical steamed white rice for fried rice or noodles. Food is always delivered piping hot, cooked on the spot, & although the veggies may be extremely over cooked in my eyes but they are always fresh. Be advised that the veggies are legit strictly steamed with absolutely no seasonings not even a sprinkling of salt!! 4 stars. This is probably 1 out of 2 regular eateries I religiously return to @ VF's food court. The cost is reasonable factoring in the amount given & food tastes good- what's not to like?? read more

Food is good enough but be careful when you order extra beef. My wife had extra chicken, I had extra beef and when they are next to each other it was clear they only gave her xtra chicken as the size was double. When questioned the arrogant server argue that it was double. So unless you are having a blood sugar crash there are other better options next to it read more

This is usually the place I go to everytime I go to this mall due to affordable prices since it's considered fast food and also the quality of the food. Not really authentic Japanese food, but this is good for coming by if you're hungry. Also the fact that the amount of protein of meats are probably high due to serving large portions. The taste of the chicken is alright, but vegetables taste kinda bland. I will still eat here though. read more

I love coming here whenever I'm at the mall. They don't disappoint and give good portions. I did notice that when people were picking up their order from the online orders line the guy handing them was rude and tossing the orders to customers rather than placing them nicely on the counter or wven just handing it to them. Maybe get someone else thats more friendly handling that section. read more

For a joint in the mall food court, Sarku was really good and fresh food. Very reasonably priced as well. Food is cooked to order with a selection of sides. The noodles, rice and chicken fro my entree were very tasty and perfectly cooked. The only thing is that it is loud in there and can be hard to hear the person taking your order. In food court at mall, next to pizza my heart. Ambiance is ok for food court. Quick and clear ordering. Service was helpful! We got 3 total teriyaki chickens, all with extra chicken, 2 noodles 1 normal white rice. Took home to eat. Very decent quality and flavor. Sure some chicken pieces a little over cooked but not over greasy or over salty. Rice was well cooked but not mushy. Noodles very soft and chewy. Of the 2 I prefer the rice. Portions are decent and you get some veggies in there too. Overall our favorite place for mall food and will be back again. read more

This is an amazing choice for high protein and filling food at the mall. A chicken teriyaki dish only costs around ~12 and it comes with steamed veggies, rice, and chicken. You can also request to do more veggies and less rice at no cost. If you want extra protein, I recommend adding an extra serving of chicken as they add a large portion of it for only $2. It's a great cheap option to have some hibachi grilled chicken, and it's really flavorful and delicious too. I love how the veggies are steamed meaning there's no extra calories from oil and seasonings. Definitely a good option for those that are cutting, and even bulking too! Not much to say about service, you order quickly and your food is prepared right in front of you. Cashiers have always been great and helpful with my orders. One of the best food court options of all time! Can't go wrong with the teriyaki chicken! Comes with steamed white rice and veggies. I noticed the counter was littered with receipts even though they have a trashcan next to the counter for customers to use but by the time I ordered and got my food, someone thankfully cleaned it up! This is my first time eating here and the line was pretty long to order food compared to the others around in the food court. I really enjoyed my food, I ordered the teriyaki chicken and substituted the rice for noodles. The shredded veggies mixed with the noodles and chicken was a great mix. It all tasted good, but the teriyaki flavor was subtly. I thought that the portion size was really good. The only complaint I had was that the food container was really hot when I got it and to take it to the seating area was kind of dangerous since it was hard to carry when it was really hot. It's been a while since I ate at a food court type of setting in a mall, but wasn't there trays for this kind of thing?! Carrying shopping bags, hot container and water was a near fiasco. read more

Sarku locations are always good. They have great service and for the price, the best Japanese food available. You can get a very tasty meal for less than McDonalds charges for a meal, but you get real food. This particular location is inside Westfield Mall, so it's inside a very nice food court. The workers here are very fast at taking your order and getting it ready. They cook the meat right in front of you and therefore it's very fresh. Excellent mall food. I usually opt for the chicken and rice but lately I've been obsessed with their noodles. They are so bouncy and chewy. My gripe is sometimes they can be inconsistent with the amount of chicken they give you, for example I bought two plates at once and one had more chicken than the other that it was noticeable. They are also a little skimpy on the steamed vegetables. Other than that I enjoy the teriyaki here. Be sure to ask for more sauce! read more

I love the concept of fast-food Japanese teriyaki. When I lived in Utah for two years I had something similar that was absolutely delicious. So was nice to see something similar here in San Jose (which I'm not very surprised of). Sarku Japan is located in the food court of Westfield Oakridge Mall. A busy food court where you have to hunt down for a table to enjoy your meal. Ordering is fairly easy and their menu is not extensive. I went and ordered the #1. Chicken Teriyaki that comes with white rice and healthy side of vegetables. You also have the option to substitute for fried rice or noodles for an extra charge. The dish, overall, was great in presentation but lacking in flavor. I tasted more water if anything. Chicken was cooked and charred beautifully but had no taste. The teriyaki sauce was there but also lacked in flavor. The dish needed more seasoning and probably some sriracha to make it more tasty. The vegetables were a nice touch and give the dish some freshness to counteract all the oil and richness. Portion size and price is fair. Will come back again and give it another shot as one experience shouldn't be a deciding factor on a location. read more

They also serve beer, Sake, & soft drinks. The menu is on a QR code on your table. The menu consists of ramen, rice bowls, appetizers, etc. They will come over to take your order when you are ready. Signature Spicy Garlic Tonkotsu: creamy pork bone broth, braised chashu, pork belly chashu, ajitama (egg), whole grilled garlic, garlic flakes, garlic oil, kikurage mushrooms, green onions, nori, menma (bamboo shoots), wheat noodle (4/5). Flavorful and mildly spicy broth. I liked that they seared the pork chashu. The marinated egg was creamy but needed to be in the broth longer to take the chill off of the yolk. The thin noodles were similar to Chinese Won Ton noodles. I'm not saying they are, just very similar. They were still good and had a nice chew. The noodles are thinner than I usually prefer. We grabbed the menus ourselves from a nearby table. We originally wanted to try their AYCE, but since the whole table had to participate, and one of us wasn't that hungry, we decided to order a la carte. We're glad we did. The 3 of us were already stuffed after sharing an appetizer and 4 signature rolls. The sweet potato tempura came out piping hot; the batter wasn't too thick. While the dipping sauce lacked flavor, the dish was still ok, and not too oily. We're impressed by the number of signature rolls they offered, and tried to pick something we hadn't seen at other sushi restaurants. My favorite was the lobster tail tempura that came with the Boujee rolls. It was tasty with a light batter. The plating was beautiful. The torched salmon, shrimp tempura and spicy tuna were good as well, but I didn't really see any real crab inside. The Skittles roll was pretty delicious, too. I liked that it had unagi, crab, tobiko, and avocado among other things. The Umami roll also had unagi and carb, but the salmon skin and bonito flakes were what made the roll special. My daughter didn't care for the salmon skin, though. The Black Mamba was interesting if you liked softshell crab. I didn't care for the macadamia nuts, though. Portion size was huge. However, their rolls weren't rolled very tightly nor cut evenly, and their rice was on the sweeter side as other Yelpers had mentioned. Since most of the rolls had similar sauces, they kind of tasted very similar, despite the different ingredients. Finding high-quality, authentic soba in the Bay Area is quite challenging, so this place is a true gem for soba lovers. While I've enjoyed dinner here multiple times in the past, this was my first lunch visit. I didn't drink this time since I was driving, but their menu is excellent for those who enjoy pairing their meal with drinks. The crowd seems to include many Japanese expats, which speaks to its authenticity. A great, reliable spot for a calm and delicious meal!
