Let me start this review by saying that I love family-owned, mom and pop restaurants. This place is that. I really, really, really, want to love this place. It has good reviews, close to my house. I was hoping this could be my new go to place for sushi. I was very disappointed. I ordered yellow tail, blue fin tuna, toro, uni, and amber jack sushi. Everything was average at best. The ingredient that makes or break sushi is the rice. I was not impressed. This rice tasted like it came out of those sushi making machines you see at the big chain, all-you-can-eat places. The fish was not in the best shape. I should have known because the display case where the fish is stored was messy and unorganized. The staff seemed to be overwhelmed as well. The whole operation looked disorganized. I'll give them a break on that since most restaurants are having a difficult time adjusting to the reopening post COVID. My bill with tip (no alcohol) came to about $90. I don't mind paying for quality. This was not it. The staff is really nice and friendly. The chef who made my order even gave me a couple extra pieces. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place. It was extremely disappointing to have had such an average experience (at best). As soon as we entered, we were greeted by several smiling faces. The entire staff was very kind. This place only offers sushi or sashimi, no plates or bento boxes. There is a good variety of specialty sushi rolls, even ones without rice. The sushi and sashimi options are pretty standard. The rolls we ordered were good, but they were topped sauce. Always a five-star rating. I've been coming over here for over 4 years and they still serve the best sushi I'm happy they moved to a new location and are still in the local area of Lake Forest. This sushi place is so clean on the inside also. As an added bonus is it's a mom and pop shop. The sushi place is the only place that I know that serves the creamiest and delectable sushi. I asked them how do you get your sushi so fresh and they said they go themselves to pick out the fish. They hand pick the fish and they make sure it meets their strict quality standards. My favorite items to get are salmon, yellowtail, and Ono white tuna. Lightly dipped in a mixture of wasabi and the green top soy sauce. Paired with Sapporo in a cold glass. My favorite Sushi items are all Ama-ebi and Uni. The Uni taste very smooth and creamy almost like a high end peanut butter. The Ama-ebi is shrimp so fresh its still alive! I've been going to this place since they were at their old place. I went in tonight for take out for this first time in a while. Food as always was great but the smell in the place was HORRIBLE!!! I mean, backed up sewer bad. I wouldn't be able to sit down and eat if I wanted to because it was highly unappetizing. I'm wondering if the owners have become nose blind to the smell. I hope they make a change soon because I'm probably not the only one that thinks a restaurant shouldn't smell like a bathroom. read more

I had to 2-3 times before I giving an honest review for this place...The sushi is good. I do recommend the salmon sashimi is the freshest I've eaten in this area so far. Priced at $10 its possibly about the expected avg price for sashimi. The service was a hit and miss upon each visit. The first two visits I'd say was much better service than the 3rd visit. I'd assumed the Baked Scallop would take some time to prepare. My roommate and I will agree the Shrimp Lovers roll is good. I will say the Caribbean Roll is better because it adds a nice kick to your tongue. However, I believe the prices here are a bit overpriced in comparison to awesome sushi restaurants I've eaten elsewhere (Oki Doki in Hermosa Beach in particular). At this place, prices ranged from $10 - 15 per order. While other places range I found better were less than $10 or less..... The ambiance here is contemporary yet decorative with the glowing star ceiling and the rich Japanese decor throughout the whole restaurant. The outside seating has bamboo sticks to give privacy from the rest of the outside. Ideal for a casual date. However, when large crowds come in, not much romantic conversation can be discussed . I will come here again if there seems to be no better sushi in the area....The bill can come up to $30 a person including the tip.....so at this time of economy. I am such a sucker. I've had a lot of different sushi but I don't know what behooved me to order a bowl of ramen. I was craving ramen so I decided to go to this spot. I ordered a ramen and a Spider hand roll. Foolish me. My ramen definitely tasted like the Nong Shim Ramen that you could buy a box of at a Korean market. Yes I am pretty sure they use the same. Instead of waiting to get home and buying a box that has 20 of these ramen for $8 I paid $9 for this one bowl of ramen...shame on me. Oh well, at least the spider roll was not too bad. I'm still in sticker shock over the price of their market priced items. We ordered one chirashi bowl, one ikura (m.p.), and one amaebi (m.p.). The ikura, normally a bright orange color, was dark brown-black. I should have sent it back immediately but I thought perhaps it was a different preparation. It was bitter and tasted awful (rotten). The amaebi was very well done. However, when the bill came, it was $35 for two pieces. I've had sushi in the most expensive cities in the US, and never paid close to that for this dish. I paid it because I didn't ask the price in advance. I struggle to take issue with prices to waiters who have nothing to do with the pricing. And, the waiters were nice. However after thinking about it for a few days, I wanted to share my experience because I think if you are going to charge prices that extreme, it's customer service to tell people in advance. The chirashi bowl was ok ...$25. This was my first (and last time) here. I will be going back to the excellent and fairly priced sushi restaurant in my neighborhood. For two people who shared a sushi bowl and ordered one sushi item, the total bill was $80. read more

This is one of our favorite sushi spots, went with friends last night around 5:30 and sadly the service was horrific! They were concentrating more on takeout orders than they were the people inside the restaurant. I am happy they are busy, but customers inside should always come first!! There were three people at the bar and one other table already served and no one else in the restaurant when we entered. No exaggeration but our food took at least 45 minutes to 1 hour to be delivered to our table. Other customers who came in after actually got their food before us. At one point my wife actually got up and self served the tray to our table as it's sat there with no one delivering it. That being said all of our entrees were excellent in taste. We will be going back again and hopefully this was just a bad night. read more

My husband and I didn't think anything had much flavor. when we first went, and the prices are ridiculous. So, my friend said she'd been there numerous times and it was good, so I gave it another shot. Worst meal ever!!! I had the bento box, even the miso soup was terrible, tasted grainy, the dressing on the salad, terrible, salmon too dry to eat, CA roll no flavor. My friend ordered 10 piece sushi dish. She was spitting things out left and right, said it was rubbery and didn't know what the majority of the fish was. It was "chef's choice" so I'm sure she got what they wanted to get rid of. Now to the price, her 10 piece was $51.00!!!!!!!!!!, over $5 a piece, for a thin piece of god knows what, on a sliver of rice. The waitress knew we didn't like it, and didn't offer any discount. Needless to say the bill was $85.00, plus tip. Won't be seeing that place again........ever!!!!! read more
