I dined at Sasafras during an evening visit to the Patterns in Nature exhibit. They had a set price of $22 for an entree, kettle chips, fountain drink and a cookie of choice. I thought this was rather pricey for a sandwich, chips and soda. However, the food is always delicious. I got the chicken salad with wheat croissant. My cookie choice was salted caramel macadamia nut which I saved for the next day. All top notch and very good. You can dine inside or out on the patio. Order at the counter and they bring the food. Very casual atmosphere.

Sunny and bright view of the garden entrance. Outside seating available. Nice selection of food choices and labelled for food preferences (gf, etc.,). My salad was good although when it came, not what I had ordered. Fixed the problem quickly and courteously, but must say the price for kale and a few ( very few) toppings was high. Could count the balls of goat cheese, cranberries and seeds. Tossed in dressing when I had asked for side dressing, but did give me the side dressing. Too bad this out- sourced run cafe doesn't really operate for the garden.

The food was good and the ambiance is THE MISSOURI BOTANICAL GARDENS! I mean you can't possible beat THAT. Sat outside and it was LOVELY! Service was sketchy. No directions to tell you to get your own silverware or napkins, and they weren't brought out with the meal. Just feel like they could do better on this.

The Sassafras Cafe has good sandwiches and salads. The ordering process is easy at the register and the food is delivered to your table.

What a beautiful spot and great food! This is a counter ordering system so you order at the counter and then someone brings you your food to the table. The inside and outdoor area here is unbelievable because you're at the Missouri Botanical Gardens! The line went fairly fast and the food came out at a great pace. I ordered the Climatron Salad and my fiancé ordered the pastrami sandwich. Both were incredible. My salad was so light but filling and the flavor was unreal. I also ordered a rosé which was nice to know that they served alcohol here. All in all, amazing food with some stunning views.

Love the new restaurant. So nice to be able to sit down or grab a quick snack. Inside or outside dining available. Food was great, large portion size for the salads, and the soup was a great way to complete the meal!

So impressed! A friend invited me and a few ladies for a walk through the garden and brunch at the Sassafras Cafe inside the visitor's center. So impressed! What a lovely, modern cafe with a great weekend brunch menu! I got the smoked salmon platter. It was a super hearty amount of smoked salmon on greens, topped with red onions and capers. And a scoop of a creamy trout salad. And a big old buttery bagel and cream cheese. Amazing! And it was under $13! What the what! Another in my group got the same thing and others got the Belgian waffles which looked amazing, smelled amazing and the ladies said they were awesome. Sugary and covered in beautiful fruit. So, I think a chef served it to us. And all the staff seemed happy and were kind. There were other awesome things on the menu like a short rib and a mushroom/leek frittata. Can't wait to go back for a walk and brunch again!

Visited the garden recently with some friends we completed our walk around 10:45 am and they wanted to have lunch. It was a little bit too early for me to have lunch and I wasn't very hungry so I asked the girl at the counter if I could order the children's Belgium waffle. She was perfectly happy to allow me to order it. It was the perfect amount of food that I was hungry for. The waffle was delicious. It came with butter, syrup, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream and a good size bowl of fresh fruit. I think it would make any kid or not too hungry adult very satisfied. One of the girls ordered the yogurt bowl and it looked really good as well. The turkey club was also very delicious per a friend who ordered it. Dining here is very casual. You go through the line and order your food and they bring it out to you. You can either eat outside or inside in the air conditioning. I will also put a couple photos of their menu choices.

Since this place is such a staple, we figured we had to give it a try. The place was absolutely packed, which clearly shows it's a local favorite. Even with how busy they were, our pickup order was ready on time -- actually before the scheduled pickup since I arrived about five minutes early. The atmosphere definitely had that classic local sandwich shack vibe and seemed like it would make a great casual lunch spot for almost any occasion. Unfortunately, the food itself just didn't live up to the reputation for us. We ordered the hot salami sandwiches, which they're known for, but they were extremely greasy and the only flavors that really stood out were mustard and grease. We expected a lot more flavor and balance considering it's their specialty item. We also placed a large luncheon order of 10 sandwiches. Everyone was satisfied overall and the food was decent enough, but nothing really stood out or made us excited to come back. We personally prefer Adriana's for both flavor and overall quality. One of the biggest disappointments was that none of the sandwiches had cheese on them, even though we paid an extra $2 per sandwich for the garlic cheese bread upgrade. That was frustrating considering the additional charge. Honestly, I'm guessing we may have just caught them on an off day because it's obvious this spot has a loyal following. We still appreciate supporting local STL businesses and can understand why so many people love it -- it just wasn't quite the experience we were expecting.

That's Garden Variety Deli. Genuinely kind, cool people who are passionate about their food--and it shows! Plus, farm-to-table produce means you can safely get a salad here even when regular lettuce is apparently giving everyone diarrhea. I had already decided on going with Turkey, again but when I went to the counter to order they were out of the turkey. The staff manning the counter suggested the Roast Beef. I was skeptical as I have my favorite roast beef sandwiches, but I went with it. They are super friendly here and everything is so fresh! I had to go with their suggestion. I added on a peach scone. Took a seat at the counter by the window, grabbed a glass of water from the dispenser and read me book and watched the people till my sandwich was ready. All the sandwiches come on their house made focaccia and it is very good! Roast beef, romesco, pickled radish, aioli, and greens. It was a delicious sandwich, I loved the pickled radish and the whole sandwich had great flavor and freshness that you could taste - just like everything I have had here. I ate half and saved half for lunch the next day. I like scones as they are a nice dough but not overly sweet. This one had great texture and crumb. Love this place, the people and the food are great!
