I tried the lamb kebab plate for lunch on a weekday. The lamb was on the dry side, and was a bit tough and chewy, but it had good flavor. For sides, I went with the tzatziki sauce and a beef and potatoes side. Both were tasty and went well with the lamb. My wife tried their stuffed eggplant as well as cous cous, and enjoyed both. Our meal came with pita bread, too, which was delicious. The layout of the restaurant is clean and there is ample seating. The service is incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a fast casual restaurant, and you can choose from menu items or from the sides that are on display. Sassool is a Mediterranean restaurant that has fresh, healthy food. I usually get the chicken kabob with white rice and garlic sauce. It is AMAZING! The kabob is nice and warm and juicy and you can tell that it is grilled. The rice is good. The garlic sauce makes everything better and it speaks for itself.. it tastes like garlic. I have tried one desert here and that is the chocolate mousse which is really good. It's not too sweet but also not bitter. The top layer is creamy semi sweet chocolate and the bottom is a dark chocolate cake. The service is normal. The staff is not rude and the food comes fairly quickly. The atmosphere isn't bad! This is my "go to" for Mediterranean cuisine. Some of my favorites are the hummus, stuffed grape leaves, chicken swarma, the Mediterranean chicken salad, fatuch salad, walnut baklava and my personal fav; mjadarah. I can say I love all their food, except the cilantro hummus but, I have the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap so, I avoid it. My friends who love cilantro, rave about this hummus. Fresh and delicious pretty much sums this place up. Mom and I tried this place out for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered the Stuffed Eggplant over rice with Tzatziki and Roasted Vegetables and Mom went with the Beef Kabob platter with Roasted Vegetables and Makloube. We also decided to split a Tiramisu. My meal was nutritious and delicious, I ate so much more than I wanted to. My Mom's beef kabob was overcooked and dry but she loved the Makloube which is rice with chicken and carrots. Unfortunately I would not recommend the Tiramisu, leave that to the Italians. If you like places such as Neomonde and Sitti, you will really enjoy this place. This has become my go-to Med spot. The cilantro jalapeno hummus and lentil salad are two of my favorites. I don't recommend the steak kabobs, though. Both times I got them they were well-done and chewy, but everything else has been so delicious! The Shwarma Pie is to die for - I encouraged my husband to order it and he griped until the first bite, then devoured the entire thing. February 2022: 3.5 stars overall I want to like this place so much, to stick with a healthy diet and enjoy delicious Mediterranean food. On a recent visit, with dinner special the Thursday Basmati rice with chicken. 1st time delicious as I noticed the pan was about empty and asked about it and fortunately they brought out a new pan fresh, hot, and delicious 5 stars! I came back another Thursday and the chicken was very dry, rice was sticking together, and not very hot plus portion was much smaller 3 stars. On other occasions, I get the kale salad double always 5 stars, the gluten free tabouli quinoa even as a side pleasant flavor, same with black bean salad. I enjoy getting chicken kabobs which I did not realize came as a platter with rice. Today, one kabob was way over cooked and the other was about right. I got it to go so a surprise unpacking it. The fresh fruit is usually a good compliment, but last week it lacked being fresh the pineapple was sour even slightly brown and the melons were not tasty rather mushy and I was disappointed. A little inconsistency and maybe it is better when on point for some delicious food, just wanted to let you know a few inconsistencies. Staff is always polite and courteous. If you have celiac disease, STAY AWAY! Ordered the gf wrap and my celiac son has been sick since, vomiting. I asked 2x, ensuring they did gf and changed gloves, they didn't comply as promised. They have LOTS of gluten free options but I doubt they're all gluten free. It takes my son vomiting for 6+ hours to recover once he's been glutened. Will not be back. So while I was in college I discovered Neomande, and had my first taste of authentic Mediterranean cuisine and am proud to say that as often as possible I buy my hummus from these guys instead of the grocery store. And as I am sure many of you do, I eat a lot of hummus! Anyway, Sassool was conceived by Mounir Saleh, one of the four Saleh brothers who started the award-winning Neomonde, which I go out of my way to visit literally every time I am in Raleigh. My GO-TO which is available both places is the Moussaka platter (which is vegetarian and noodle-less - difficult to find) which comes with 2 sides. This go around I got their "Sweetheart Salad" special which is pictured with their delish baba ganoush. Every time I stop in I get some items TO-GO from the deli, like the hummus of course, baba ganoush, and tzatziki which comes with fresh-baked bread that they make in house. Be sure to add olives and olive oil when they ask! They also sometimes have an aisle of their homemade bread on discount in the stores - so ask about that. read more

Yesterday after reading some reviews decided to have dinner with my wife. Among few things, ordered kebabs (beef/lamb and chicken). Extremely dry! As a side, ordered spaghetti and believe it or not actually got a broken piece of a plastic in my mouth. Looked at my fork and no piece was missing thereby this plastic piece came within the spaghetti. Obviously a very disappointing experience and this cannot be attributed to COVID 19. I like that it had a little grocery attire selection of spices and snacks, as well as pita from Neomonde and their own baked pita chips. We ended up getting combo meals for lunch. I got a falafel lunch box meal with two sides and a drink. I think the small falafel pita is more than even enough actually when it comes with the sides! The sweet potato salad was surprising delicious and refreshing (though I had to pick out the celery). I was so happy to get a large amount of tzaziki sauce, though it counted as a side. This was bright and full of flavor! I was happy with the texture and taste of the falafel, which was green and ever so slightly moist on the inside-- not dry and crumbly. So my search for the best shawirma in the triangle area continues. I was really excited to try this place because of how highly it was reviewed. Unfortunately, the food experience wasn't that great. Maybe we ordered the wrong things, but chicken shawarma is pretty staple at any middle eastern restaurant. Service was nice, nothing special but also nothing memorable. We ordered tabooli, chicken shawirma wrap, Lebanese pasta, and some rose baqlawa for a treat. The most outstanding was the tabooli for sure. It was sour and flavorful and really tasted great. They actually have a really wide selection of salad options that I was happy to see! My husband was extremely excited for the Lebanese pasta but, we both felt it fell below our expectation. The shawirma was an interesting mix in a sauce that I've never really seen before. It didn't taste like a shawirma sandwich and more of just a chicken wrap. It wasn't full with chicken and was just surprised and not that satisfied with it. I heard that the cheese pies and the meat platters here are pretty good. Met a friend for lunch today. Not very crowded at Noon on a Thursday. I had half a whole wheat pita with Kibbeh (I love that stuff). It was delicious. The pita was filled to the brim. Sassool is definitely my favorite "healthy" meal option in the Triangle. It's a Mediterranean place that serves a variety of sandwiches/wraps but also a ton of Mediterranean side dishes. My favorite option is to go with the "Pick 3" or "Pick 4" options and pick 3 or 4 sides to put together as a meal - the cilantro jalapeño hummus and orzo salads are my personal favorite! The selection isn't as crazy as say Mediterranean Deli in Chapel Hill but there are a ton of delicious side options to choose from! They had decent jazzy music when I was there which made the atmosphere really chill and relaxing. I'm sure you could bring a loud crowd too. It's clean- at the time of this writing a 95 Score and well I walk out of places are below 95 to be honest. So good there but don't let that score dip any lower! Now for the best part. Gluten free pitas, desserts and other assortments are a plenty which means that they cater to most customers and they actually give a damn. Nice work! What an interesting restaurant and market! We ordered a 4 choice sampler and 5 kabobs and the three of us ate it all! We had taboulli, kale salad, roasted vegetables and fresh fruit on the sampler plus 2 chicken, a beef, a lamb and a kahfta kabob. All were good but the chicken and lamb kabobs were our favorites! The clerk was nice enough to help us order and offered us a "taste" of taziki (?) sauce which ended up being a small bowl full!! It really set off the meat and free pita bread. I am so thankful that there is a Mediterranean restaurant close by, that has not only lots of options, but authentic options. It may be overwhelming the first time you go, but that just means you will have to come by a few more times to try more things. For me, there are a few things that are a must every time I go. 1) chicken kabobs, because they are delicious and come with Toum, that little container of goodness that makes everything tastier. 2) literally an entire platter of items out of the deli case. I promise that if you look past the makloube or mjadarah because you know what rice tastes like, it is a mistake. 3) as many things from their pastry case that I can get without feeling guilty. The set up and food choices are a little bit different than other Mediterranean restaurants I have tried. There are menu options and deli case food to select from. I ordered a falafel sandwich and arugula, watermelon, feta salad. The falafel patties were excellent. Nice crunchy on the outside. Inside was flavorful, soft and not too dry. The sandwich was bland. Next time I would order the falafel patties with other sides. My friend liked the kibbee and it looked good. I was there with my 4 year old. She liked the kids pizza. I had a piece of it later and it was decent. Basically, cheese and flat bread. The complementary pita is also soft, pillowy deliciousness. There is a nice outdoor area for kids. Also, this is an easy place to bring kids. Next time, I want to go alone or with my husband and enjoy the $5 wines, check out the different baklava's and cookies, spend more time looking and sampling various foods, and shopping at their little market. After starring at the case for quite awhile waiting for my turn to order I went back and forth numerous times. Finally decided on the vegetable lasagna, chick pea salad, and hummus. I was very happy with all my decisions. The pita they offer at check out was also pretty tasty. If you are looking for something a bit more substantial than just the salad options I would recommend the vegetable lasagna, it was hot, flavorful, and a good portion. I absolutely love Sassool. Whenever I'm in the area I make it a part of the trip to get a meal here, and it's fantastic every time. This time around here was no exception. Trying some new items this time around, we picked out a few pizzettes and some salads. We had the shawarma pizzette, the mushroom onion pizzette, the meat pie (Lahem B'ahjeen), autumn root salad, and quinoa tabbouleh. All three pizzettes were delicious. The mushroom onion was our favorite in terms of being more "pizza-ish," but only because that meat pie was in a league of its own. If you're looking for a meaty, savory, satisfying meal, definitely check out that meat pie. The autumn root salad- my go-to favorite of Sassool's salads was as usual heavenly. The best balance of textures with the pomegranate vinaigrette. So delicious, tart, crisp, and bright. The quinoa tabbouleh was also perfection. Light and tangy to wrap the whole meal up. I don't come down to Cary often, but each time I eat at Sassool it makes me want to come down here again and again. We'll definitely be back to try more. read more
