The vibe is friendly and you will notice so many vegetarian, vegan and meat loaded options. They carry beer and wine and all kinds of likable beverages. You order deli style and find a table. The shawarma, chicken kabob are a hit with the family and for me- falafel with 3 sides are the win. Salads galore and the hummus is probably the best in town. Pita is complimentary at check out. They participate in Go Play Save so you could get a BOGO. They used to do a half price wine Wednesday and I'm not sure they do it now. Sassool is a burst of flavor and distinctly different from the variety of flavors we have in the city. I guess it's starting to be a trend where once great restaurants of the area are falling one by one. Lats year I went here specifically for the baklava as it was amazing! Large pieces drenched in honey, just wonderful, so much so I would go once a week and buy $20 of it just for weekly snacks. I tried a couple of times over the past few months, and they were out every time. Today I went to check again and they had some full trays! However, I found the pieces had been reduced in size by half, and they were extremely dry from lack of honey and I mean dry as Fu&!. Look at the pics and not even sweet, they were so lacking of it. We generally enjoy going to Sassool. Pros: 1) there is a good menu selection; 2) it seems to be high-quality food at an affordable price; 3) the optional free pita bread is usually wonderful. Opportunities for improvement: 1) most of the food is too salty and sometimes so hot-spicy for me, it is inedible; 2) the same dish ordered on different days by my taste varies greatly in saltiness and spiciness; 3) sometimes the pita bread is burned, yet bagged up for the customer anyway; and 4) servers who are dishing up ordered food do not always wear gloves, which I think is gross. Once upon a time, Sassool was known for its fresh foods, generous portions and friendliness. Unfortunately, I'm becoming more disappointed with its unfriendly staff, and smaller portions despite higher prices. Most of the Food items are delicious though. When I went in for a "pick 4" and questioned the small amount of chicken salad I was given, the young man basically offered nothing more than a curt 'it's just the way the portions are'. Very disappointed with the way that was handled. I usually get meals from Sassool 3-4x/month. I'll be looking for other Mediterranean options in the Raleigh area to support. read more

I am a pretty picky eater, but I do like Turkish Food (a similar cuisine), so when Lebanese friend mentioned coming to Sassool, I was game! The menu has a lot of nice meal options available. We ordered our food at the counter and someone brought our meals out to our table. I had a spinach pizzette, it was awesome! I sampled a bit of my friend's Baba Ghanouj, so tasty. The highlight for me was the fresh pita bread, absolutely mouth watering. The food was so flavorful! My friend loves this place too, so it's the real deal. On a Friday or Saturday if you order beef or kafta you can EASILY wait 30 minutes or more, EASILY! The wait for food is usually very very long! The food taste very good and fresh but the wait is really bad. There's also times we've experienced, like tonight, after waiting almost 40 minutes for kafta the people who ordered kafta after us got theirs before us. They seem disorganized during busy times. We had an offer from a local discount dining club and decided to go on a Sunday night. We thought it would be slow but this location was pretty busy. Lucky that they know how to serve you quickly. We got the stuffed eggplant special and the pick three combo. Oh my God, the pita bread they gave us was warm and delicious. If we lived closer, we'd definitely come here more often. This is our go to after the gym. It's counter service so it's quick and healthy. We usually opt for the kabobs and two sides. Their salads are always fresh and tasty. Our favorites are the beet salad, quinoa tabouleh, tuna Mediterranean salad, lentil, and fava bean salads. The food is always incredible. It's always very fresh and extremely good. I ordered two large carry out orders from their website and although it said 5:55p it took until 6:15 to receive. I don't mind waiting I just wish the website would give the appropriate ETA. At this restaurant, you order and pay at the counter and take a number and your food is brought out to you. Me and my family love middle Eastern food, so of course we went to Sassool. The service was quick and attentive, and I liked the prices. I know that I wanted vegetables, and fruit. When I saw the pasta I had to have it! I settled on the Vegetable Lasagna which was very savory and full of vegetables that almost had me fooled but I knew it was vegetables lol. Inside the lasagna was grill squash, eggplant, zucchini, red potato, feta cheese, house made marinara, and a three cheese blend. Omg so delicious! The kale salad filled with raisins, apples, bell pepper, walnuts, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and spices had my tastebuds jumping and was another hit for me and I wasn't expecting it to be this good. The fruit was refreshing as a light dessert. I wanted so bad to try the vegan desserts (I'm not a vegan) but it looked scrumptious. I can't wait to try the other sides and entrees. My entire purchase was under $14. I tried a sparkling rose' water which was an acquired taste (low calorie) the right amount of fizz that was another nice treat that made me happy after my meal. My only concern was some of the serving utensils handles were laying in the food, besides that this was a good experience. The staff are nice and informed me of the rewards program. Sassool is a great option for a healthy Mediterranean lunch. I usually order the chicken shawarma pita. It's made with ground chicken, instead of the traditional marinated chicken on a rotating spit. I never had shawarma like this until I moved to NC. It's a decent sandwich, and I always ask for extra pickles and a small side of garlic sauce. I have tried the hummus, kale salad, eggplant dip, grape leaves and pistachio baklava, and it's all delicious. They also offer you hot bread (white or wheat) with your meal, when you check out. I appreciate the grocery section too. I usually buy pickles, za'atar spice, and during this visit, I purchased pomegranate molasses, which I was never able to find. Recently had the opportunity to join a dinner club at the heralded 'Sassool'. This was definitely a good forum for me to be introduced to Lebanese cuisine. Moon Ear,(How the owner told us to remember him/his name) was a gracious and informative host. We learned he and his brothers started and owned Neomande together, and he decided to break away 12 years ago and open his own restaurant with his daughters. Hence, Sassool, started in Raleigh and added he a second location in Cary 6 years ago. It is named after, and a tribute to his 90 plus year old Mom. A true Matriarch who is the inspiration and the original cook! The Cary location is in the Salt Box Village area and has ample parking. The restaurant was abuzz and bustling with business. On Yelp it has 300 plus reviews, and a strong 4 star plus average. They are doing something right. Personally, I tried tzazitki (cucumber and yogurt), chicken kabobs, grilled chicken sandwich, pita bread (freshly cooked in a wood burning stove), walnur baklava, and several other samples. I was out of my comfort zone, liked the chicken kabobs/sandwich but my palate did not warm to anything else. The staff is well trained, but the ordering process is daunting and confusing to rookies like me... There is also a small area with mediterranean wares including bulk spices, candy, nuts etc. reasonably priced.
