My only complaints are that i was charged $6 extra just so he could make a "coffin shape" which was not done as sharp as im use to and Usually places don't charge for the shape anyways...Then i was charged $10 for each of the little snow flakes. The guy also kept trying to convince me to make my nails shorter as that's what everyone gets i kept saying no but he kept telling me they were to long. This was my 2nd time here. My first time was when they first opened. Both times I have had a great experience. Great pedicures. They have enough chairs and staff where you can still walk-in and not have to wait too long. I was watching another person get a flower painted on their pedi and she (employee) was so effortless at doing it free-hand and it wasn't garish and tacky like at some salons. So I asked if I could get one and my girl totally did a GREAT flower. Very impressed by the quick and easy freehand artistry :) They have the nice spa pedi chairs with the massage functions. I don't care so much about those but I know some do. But the calf and arm massages with mani and pedis were great! It's more expensive than the cheap places in the Bay Area. But less expensive than the fancier spas. So a good in-between PLUS wonderfully located in the Tahoe area :) It's conveniently located right on Donner Pass Road. So my friend is getting married and we want to go get our nails done before we head out to the venue that is in the middle of nowhere. We end up here because this is "THE" place to go in Truckee. Well, if that's the case, that is pretty sad. We had a 10 AM appointment and were on a tight schedule so the time of our appointment was very important. We show up at 10 and nobody is there. We are thinking this can't be real, right? A woman was out front and said that 80 was closed and they were all running late, but they would call us to have us come in as soon as they arrived. We left and knew we would be behind to load up our cars and leave for the venue, however, we didn't anticipate being over an hour behind. Running late would have been forgivable, however, they came across inconvenienced and rude. They did not apologize at all, the guy that did my nails did not apply the gel correctly (I do my own gel nails and he skipped the base and top coats) so my manicure starting to come off within a week whereas my home applied gel manicure lasts 2-3 weeks. He did not talk to me even once. He just pointed and made odd noises. I finally had to tell him he needed to communicate what he was saying correctly with words because grunting is not speaking. Worst nail experience of my entire life. My shellac nails were purple and the toe color they chose for me was extreme dark purple, almost black. I would have chosen a match myself but they rushed me into the chair. When I told the lady that they didn't match at all she said "I told you I can't guarantee a match". I'm a reasonable person i don't expect an exact match just similar. It wasn't remotely close. The worst part was they aren't using gel nail dryers just regular polish dryers so your hands have to stay under for 6 minutes each hand per coat, that was 36 minutes of drying time and they had to redo three nails three times because they still weren't dry. 36 more minutes! And hour and 20 minutes for a shellac mani is ridiculous! The staff was unapologetic and rude about the entire experience. This place is a complete mess and I would never recommend going here! I've been coming here for the last 5 years and have yet to be disappointed. They are extremely nice and pay attention to detail of what you want. Ashley did a beautiful and awesome job. I would highly recommend to get both a pedicure and manicure done. Also if you get a full set, ask for a hand massage, it may cost a little extra but definitely worth it! I am always stoked on this place. Their chairs for pedicures are wonderful at any given time of day, and the place is really clean. So today I came to get my nails done with my mom. We get seated relatively fast, and they turned on the water in the foot-bath. The water was luke warm, but we decided to not make a big deal of it. My mom put her feet in the water, and the manicurist immediately took her feet out and begins the pedicure before her feet were even in the water for 30 seconds. My mom tried to explain that she wanted to let her feet soak for a few minutes, but the nail technician didn't understand English. Finally one of the techs who spoke English fluently came up and told the girl to go start working on the next customer. Meanwhile the woman started my pedicure. It was awful. To say the least. The massage was horrible. At first I thought that she was just rubbing in the lotion before the massage began, but it turns out that was the massage! The "hot" stones were not even close to hot and had sharp bits on them that hurt your skin. So far I had been there for about 10 minutes and she had sped through the entire process which is supposed to take around 20-25 minutes. At this point, the woman's four year old daughter came out from the back room and started playing on the stool next to my feet. I was trying to be understanding that she wasn't able to keep her daughter and daycare all day, and to be honest the kid was probably bored to pieces. So, the woman was beginning to paint my nails when the little girl rolled the stool up next to her and grabs one of the tools that has a sharp needle-like tip on one end, and a brush on the other, and starts stabbing my foot with the needle. I couldn't believe it! I honestly had no idea what to say. Finally when the little girl started actually stabbing the newly painted polish on my big toe I said something. My mom stepped out of her tub and told the woman that this was totally unbelievably and that it was not okay for her daughter to be doing that. She then said that she was going to go sit across the room and just wait for my nails to be finished because this was beyond ridiculous. The woman didn't even bother to wait for the nail-polish to dry (or even set!) before scurrying me out of my seat. She honestly couldn't get me out of there fast enough! My mom paid the woman. And while we were driving home decided that that treatment wasn't even worth paying for. She decided to go back and ask for a refund. Which she was rudely refused. I then decided to go in and talk to the main manager. The salon was basically full at this point and he didn't even bother to talk to me somewhere private. All of the eyes in the salon were on us. I explained to him that I hardly ever get to get my nails done and that this was totally not okay. He continued to refuse to give me my money back. I asked him to give me his boss's phone number so I could explain what happened, because I was more than sure that he would be happy to give me my money back. Finally, after a very long conversation, he decided that he would ONLY give me my money back if they took of the nail polish. So I agreed. While sitting down to have the polish taken off, the three women sitting along the wall getting their nails done all mouthed the words, "I'm so sorry" and shook their heads. Just got my nails (dipping powder) before coming to Truckee for vacation. Naturally, the first day we were here, I broke a nail. Called Sass Nails & Spa. Mike explained, that yes, they do dipping powder, but may or may not be able to match the nail color of my other 9 fingers. We made an appointment for either a repair or a full new manicure. When I arrived, the first employee that greeted me said there would be no way to match it, so I needed my new dipping powder manicure re-done. Mike intervened and said he didn't think I should have to pay for a complete re-do since my nails were so 'fresh' (even from a Las Vegas salon). He not only was able to match the color via gel polish, he rebuilt the nail so it matched the others. 20 minutes, in and out. I just had a terrible humiliating experience with this nail salon. I want to bring it to the attention of other people that may consider coming to this nail salon. Yesterday I made an appointment with a gentleman who answered the phone. I indicated I needed a fill using gel and shellac as the polish, he said no problem they can do it for $35. I made an appointment for the next day. I walked in and saw the person I talked to over the phone. I showed him my nails and he said go sit down and pick out the nail color. I reiterated the service I wanted and confirmed that the price was $35. Again I indicated I wanted the fill. I sat down down at the manicure station and the manicurist began tearing at my nails trying to lift and remove them. She was using clippers and a artificial nail to remove the nail. This was causing me a great deal of pain. Three times I said ouch and asked her to be more careful she never apologized. I also said I would be in a lot less pain if she could soak the nail off . She let me soak several nails this way but not the others. The pain continued due to the fact she was poking and prodding my nail bed. I asked her several times why she was removing my artificial nail rather than doing the agreed upon fill. She never answered. Her command of the English language was very poor. She attempted to tell me something however I asked her multiple times to repeat it due to the fact that I could not understand what she was saying. Finally another manicurist translated it and said I needed to pay a extra $5 on top of the $35. I indicated that I asked the man I talked to at the salon several times for the price and he said $35. The manicurist said he doesn't know since he doesn't do the gel nails. Finally they agreed not to charge me extra. I should mention that during this process I googled nail salons and what things to be aware of. It indicated if a salon attempts to remove the artificial nail instead of a fill its a red flag. It's a red flag because a fill provides strength to the nail. If the nail is removed there is not any protection since the nail underneath does not have the protection of the extra layers that the artificial nails offer. The manicurist started applying gel over my bare nail I indicated that I had never seen it applied like that. At this point the man that quoted me $35 asked me to leave because I was not being nice. My nails were half done. I provided pictures to show what the manicurist did. The nails were different lengths and were not filed down before the gel was applied. She left the nails jagged and uneven. I walked out the door and I was followed by one of the manicurists who said I owed $10. I said to her the nail removal procedure was extremely painful. She looked at my nails and said there's not any blood. My reply was that a person can feel pain without involving blood. I gave her the $10 and was never offered a apology. I would hate anyone experiencing the negative service I received! read more

I walked in on a very busy day and was asked to come back in 20 min. I did that and when I came back they put me in a pedicure chair and I sat with my feet in water for 15 min. before anyone showed up to do my toes. She did a good job and I was happy with the result. When that was over she left me to pay my bill altho I'd asked for a mani/pedi. So I was sent to a manicure chair where I waited another 15 minutes for a new person to do my nails. The gel manicure I got was maybe the worst one ever, the polish isn't evenly applied and a week later polish is chipping off. They use dryers built into the tables instead of the normal small fast dryers. My guess is that process isn't as effective and is why my nails aren't lasting like they should. On top of that I thought the price was ridiculous, $20 more than I normally spend at home. I wouldn't go back. read more

I've had a couple pedicures here and I'm very pleased with the salon. It's clean and the decor is pleasant. The staff is friendly and responsive and they give the best foot and leg massages (and the hot stones are blissful)! The spa chairs are lovely as well. Yes, a pedi is $35, but it's a good value, considering the amount of time the technician spends with you and the quality of the service. The only downside is that their polish selection tends towards dark and red -- I wish there were some lighter and brighter colors available. They take walk-ins and can usually get you in a chair in ten minutes or less. Definitely my go-to nail place in Truckee. read more

This place is wonderful! Clean, calm and relaxing. Great selection of polishes. Very comfortable pedicure chairs. Everyone (almost) is very friendly and do their best to please you. Trish did my manicure as Lenni did my pedicure. Incredible, long massage of feet and legs, finishing with smooth, hot stones and then wrapped in hot towels. We did have an appointment but there were several walk-ins while we were there. Total time for both was 1 hour 15 minutes. I wanted to book the rest of the day just for the foot massage :) $48 for both was a bargain for such great service!
