Sate Texas might be the only Indonesian restaurant available within a 20 mile radius. It's a shame, because Indonesian food can be amazing. So with that said, I'm glad Sate Texas is around. We checked them out for the first time today and were pretty impressed. Unfortunately, they were not making Rendang or Ketoprak, which were the main reasons we drove there. Supposedly, they're understaffed and were sticking with mainly their barbecue dishes (Satay). So we ordered the dishes that they did have available including the Sate Babi, Gado Gado, Ayam Goreng, and Bakso. The Sate Babi was really good. It definitely had some real, authentic Indonesian flavors. The other dishes were pretty good, but nothing stood out as much as the satay. Prices are reasonable. Service is visibly short handed, but friendly. Hopefully, Sate Texas gets some more business and help so that they're able to serve Round Rock to their full potential.

This is a small counter serve shop. There are a few tables but the dining space is not very large. I had the rendang platter, beef skewers, and lupis. My food was delicious, flavorful, and fresh. The rendang (curried beef) had several chunks of fat to my disappointment. Also, the serving size didn't match the price (the portion wasn't very big). If you get hot easily, I recommend taking your food to go because the seating area was uncomfortably warm and the AC doesn't seem to work properly.

Enjoyed it. Only a handful of dishes offered but the flavor is there and it satisfied my craving for an Indonesian meal enough to return. Ayam in the ayam bakar was super tender and char grilled to perfection, with a really tasty sweet marinade. Get the yellow rice (+$1 to sub). Fried chicken was very good- not too greasy. I do wish the sambal was spicier or they had more variety. Gado-gado was also a bit skimpy in terms of toppings - a lot of shredded lettuce and diced cucumber/tomato, and I was expecting chunky, blanched veg alongside the tofu/prawn crackers. Overall, solid dinner. Will be back to try a lunch special.

Eat here! Outstanding Indonesian food. Peanut sauce was really tasty and the yellow rice was perfect. If you are craving Asian food try this place! You won't be disappointed!

Insanely delicious food. So good we came two nights in a row. Beware, if you come once you'll want to come often and try everything on the menu!!! Having good, authentic options besides chains is so important. This restaurant should be on Triple D.

A new little Indonesian restaurant in La Frontera shopping center next to the Firebowl Café. Very small with only three or four tables. You order at the counter. The menu is very limited offering beef, pork, or chicken sate with white or yellow rice. I tried the beef sate with yellow rice. The plate came with a small salad, rice and the beef sate. The beef sate was very tough, but the yellow rice was delicious. The menu is too limited and needs to be expanded to survive. If you're looking for something new, try Sate Texas.

Bagus sekali! I was so excited when I found out Sate Texas opened a brick and mortar location. It was a bit of a drive for me from South Austin, but it did not disappoint. This newly open restaurant is family owned and very authentic. I tried the chicken and the beef sauté. The chicken satay was very tender and perfectly marinated. The beef's rich flavors with almost caramelized edges was so delicious. I really enjoyed their pickles and peanut sauce making me nostalgic about Indonesia. Right now, they are focusing on grilled chicken and chicken beef and pork sate. The owners shared that they will be adding rendang to the menu in the future. I will definitely be coming back for more.

Delicious!! I recently heard about this new restaurant on reddit and foodie influencers on ig. We ordered through their website for delivery on a Sunday for lunch. We loved all the skewers and the yellow rice was soo fragrant and yummy. Everything was very well seasoned and tasted authentic / homemade. The hot sauce was really good as well. This restaurant is definitely worth checking out.

    Yummy

Ordered the pork skewer meal. It was really good. Flavorful and tasty. Please see picture. Price is fair for the food. Highly recommended!

Really love this place first time trying Indonesian food didnt disappoint really nice atmosphere owners very friendly. As well as everyone there very welcoming which is important to me. They use a special type of charcoal got the Ayam baker which comes with a thigh and drum stick a side salad and of course had to get the yellow rice. Also got 2 beef skewers and 2 tempeh skewers. Also spoiled myself with the cendol as my dessert when else will I get to try something like really good.

Good place to try out some Indonesian food. I had the pork sate special platter. Tasty overall though the pork was a bit tough. Also had the rendang platter, which had a good balance of spice to the beef stew. Ask for the yellow rice for this platter! Friendly folks who work there. Give it a try if you are in the RR area.

Tried this for the first time based on a referral on an IG Round Rock dining feed and wasn't disappointed. I had the pork skewer dinner and husband had the chicken option. Both flavorful & tasty. We'll repeat!

Pork skewers, chicken skewer, yellow rice, and free pickle/and spicy paste (not sure of the name).

Looking to try something new. Give this place a shot. while their location is new (and doesn't have the sign up yet) they are not new to the game. Prior to opening this new location they were running a very popular food truck out of south Austin. It's mom and pop run. The owner is a sweet heart. Her and her husband are running the show with only one person helping. She was very attentive and caring. Just be patient with them. As for the food... it was excellent. Their skewers are were delicious. Today I tried the pork skewers, chicken skewers, and the yellow rice. The rice was aromatic and flavorful. Their skewers pork was sweet (just barely ... which is perfect) and savory and juicy. The chicken tastes a bit of the grill (in a great way) with a savory peanut sauce. The chili paste is spicy and pungent. (In the best way!!!) Just a heads up. The location is located in the building that has Maggy Moos, Firebowl, smoothie king, and Chipotles... which is in the larger shopping center area called La Frontera.

Rudy's used to offer bread with the meal, but I was not offered and did not see any... It would've been nice to have some bread with my barbecue. But I guess they're trying to cut cost and increase their bottom line. There were no napkins to be found . I finally found some back by the drinks. Before the ownership change therre used to have some paper towels/napkins at every table. But I guess they're trying to cut cost. The turkey was average at this, but instill come back to the fact that it would be nice to have some bread and make a little mini sandwich. However, that was not an option for me. Average barbecue Horrible customer service Lots of better options around Pretty pricey for the product received

I try to give places a chance before deciding they are not for me…read more When I first moved to Hutto, I was intrigued by Southside Market and their history. I had known about the historic location in Elgin that claims to be the oldest barbecue spot in Texas. They have updated their processes to keep up with the times and in the last 15 years have begun opening new locations throughout Central Texas, with one in the Co-Op District of Hutto. I have had plenty of barbecue in my time, from chains to Texas Monthly recognized and Michelin star winning locations. I understand that not all barbecue is the same, but I also understand that barbecue served all day like at Southside Market can still be good. I do not think that is truly the case, though. My first experience was when Southside Market catered a holiday party for my work. I thought it was alright, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, saying that it was catered. You do not judge a meal based on it being kept warm in a pan that was probably cooked at 8 am that morning or the night prior. It is not the same game. I went back a few months later for a birthday lunch and got their combo plate with sausage and sliced brisket. My first thought: This tasted like it was catered. The Jalapeño Cheddar sausage was decent but tasted a little too smoky, and the brisket really did nothing for me. The side of potato salad was good, but you cannot mess up potato salad that badly. Their mac and cheese was good, I think. I do not remember it whatsoever. I went back recently after almost nine months with a desire to get a baked potato with chopped brisket for lunch. I got it without sour cream but kept the rest of the toppings of cheddar cheese, chives, and butter. I took it to go, which I rarely do, but it was a busy day. I cannot describe how disappointing the potato was. First, the potato was smaller than I had expected. The saucy chopped brisket tasted like a smoked Sloppy Joe thrown on a spud. It was really too smoky for me to even enjoy it. I felt like I was eating a chimney. It did nothing to raise my spirits and like that, I was forever out on Southside Market. I am probably one in a million because they have steady foot traffic inside on a frequent basis, but I wonder if the name is doing all the work. The staff was great and the space is well done and spacious, but the food actually has to be good to make that a plus factor. I have no idea if the food is any better at their original Elgin location, but I would rather go to Smokey Mo's across the tracks in Hutto because the potato is a good size and the brisket had a good flavor to it. Here, I just was not impressed. I will not ever return unless I am invited with co-workers or something, and even if I am, I will debate the idea of saying yes.

They have great proportions of egg, cheese, bacon, chorizo, potatoes, and all that jazz. I think they have some of the best breakfast tacos I have had in town. I have had them a few times now. Yesterday, I went to Smokey Mo's for dinner because I wanted a baked potato desperately. I walked inside with only a few other people eating and no line. I ordered a chopped brisket baked potato with all the fixings, with an individual sized side of their pinto beans and a regular drink. They have plenty of drink options from bottled beverages, alcoholic beverages, and their Pepsi fountain drinks. They also have a section to serve yourself with pickles, onions, lemons, and peppers. It was only a few minutes before I got my meal, and the baked potato was excellent. I ate it as quickly as I could for recently having my wisdom teeth removed. It is a pretty large potato, and it was able to fill a hungry guy like myself up pretty well. The chopped brisket was plentiful and was quite savory. I missed brisket. As I finished my meal, I went to get a refill of my tea, and they had already removed the teas from their fountain drink area. There were still other customers inside besides me, and they were still open for another 40 minutes, so that was a little disappointing, but it did not really make or break the visit. I have not had their main barbecue, but it looks decent for being a seven days a week chain. That baked potato was delightful though. RIYL: A spuddo in Hutto.

Decent, yes--but it doesn't matter when the main event is a fat mound masquerading as brisket. This wasn't just a meal gone wrong; it ruined a rare, $100+ family gathering, turning what should have been warmth, laughter, and indulgence into awkward chewing and regret. Every bite screamed "cheap, careless, lazy," and every dollar spent felt like it vanished into smoke--literally. Smokey Mo's, your brisket is a betrayal in foil. If you want BBQ that actually honors your family gatherings, keep driving. Don't let anyone you love endure this!

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

The Best in Central Texas!…read more I've tried BBQ from all over, and while I might be a little biased, I firmly believed that the best BBQ was in Florida... until I tried Smoky Buns. First, let's talk about the location. It's tucked down a bumpy road between two duplex apartments. It sounds a little sketchy, but trust me, it is so worth it (definitely drive your truck or SUV if you have one!). This place is a true hidden gem. They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.
