More like 3.5 stars. I came here with my coworkers, and we have since been twice. We were looking for a lunchtime Poke place in Tracy, which is no easy feat. After a quick Yelp search, it seems that Satomi is the only place in Tracy serving Poke (win!). Satomi is not like the Chipotle-style Poke places that have been popping up recently; you fill out a small form, and they prepare it for you. Because I'm used to Poke places in East Bay and San Francisco, I don't find Satomi to be on par in terms of value. Personally, I found the portion size to be a lot smaller than I'm used to - it's an average lunchsize portion you can finish in one meal; I'm used to bringing half a bowl home. The regular order comes with 1 protein; I've been willing to pay $2 extra for an extra protein, which makes the total cost around $12. I'd recommend increasing the price to cover cost of a default 2 proteins, increasing the bowl size, and adding more variety of sauces (currently, there are only three, and they are all some combination of creamy and spicy). That being said, the customer service at Satomi is like no other - the woman behind the counter is incredibly kind, and it's easy to become a regular here. My co-workers that are less picky about Poke love this place, so I definitely anticipate coming back soon. read more

This shop is definitely family owned, they are very friendly & sweet but right when we were seated the table was dirty & no one seemed bothered to clean it. Me & my bf ordered the deep fried dragon roll, volcano roll, pineapple shrimp dish, & teriyaki dish. From all the really good reviews I thought this place was going to be delicious but I was disappointed. The sushi was below mediocre they didn't even give side garnishes or a small bowl to pour soy sauce. Sorry to say but I've had better sushi at Winco, a grocery store ... My pineapple dish was drowning in chili oil and as for the teriyaki it was super bland. For as much as it's all worth I'd say save ur money & look a little harder for an authentic Japanese restaurant. I can't speak for the other dishes but if ur looking for Japanese please find another place. read more

The staff here is super friendly! This was our first time trying satomi, and although the sushi wasn't as flavourful as we had hoped, the Gyoza was delicious and we're excited to try more of the appetizers and hot foods! If you're not a fan of fishy taste but want to give sushi a try, this place would be highest my recommendation! Forgot to take pictures because we ate so fast! read more

Unplanned visit turns fortuitous! My wife and son were just about to hit the road for a date-night concert out of town and were craving sushi. On this particular day their usual spots were closed so they decided to give Satomi a try. And boy am I glad they did! After returning home from the AWESOME concert hours later, despite the VIP passes and personal photos op with the artist, it was Satomi that won them over that night! The defining moment for my wife and son, reinforced with every visit since [for me], is deeply centered in the warmth of Cindy and her family. Cindy's friendliness and hospitality is "next level." It feels as if we have been family friends for years. Cindy and her husband pour love into the experience from the moment you walk in. I love to cook at home and have always believed that the levels of goodness, peace, love etc that I carry with me (...or not!) during prep directly factor into how well (...or not!) the meal is received. Not knowing who is preparing your meal, what kind of day they may be having, the quality of ingredients being used, for my wife and me, generally translates into an overpriced, mediocre dining experience. At Satomi, the designed dishes are on par with the effortlessly created atmosphere: it's next level. It's warm, inviting, and like the proprietors, it's one-of-a-kind. I'm careful to not rave too much about Cindy's iced Vietnamese coffee because if more people knew about her expert ability to create "paradise in a cup," selfishly, the lines would be unbearable. The poke bowls are the best. The rolls are inspired and delicious. And the iced Vietnamese coffee need only be tried once. But to me, what sets Satomi apart from every other Japanese dining experience is the tempura. I think the casual American sushi consumer takes tempura for granted. Often rubbery and tough or tasteless and soggy, it seems the casual diner accepts mediocrity when it comes to tempura. At Satomi, whether the tempura is in a roll or battered around veggies/shrimp, it is airy, crispy, light, and alive. Satomi is Tracy's hidden gem. My wife and I have lived here for many years and we never noticed this restaurant. Nestled between the Grocery Outlet and a check cashing place on the corner of Tracy Blvd. & 11th Street, you may have missed it, too. I highly recommend Satomi for every occasion. read more

OMG the most terrible sushi experience ever! This is my 2nd time here, it obviously was good the first time so I ordered the exact same items this time, spicy edamame, poke and rolls. The spicy edamame is good as usual, but the rolls and poke bowl were TERRIBLE! This time they decided to put red onions on EVERYTHING! The sharp smell and taste completely rubbed the sweetness of the ingredients, butchered the deliciousness of either Japanese food or Hawaiian cuisine. If the chef had list the red onions on the menu then I could understand and avoid to order it. If you didn't list that on your menu then you shouldn't put it on!! This is a Japanese restaurant operated by possibly Vietnamese, it could be a different culture thing, not sure why they cook the food this way, maybe the sharp onion smells mean very much in their original culture, but definitely not close to Japanese taste. this is a never again restaurant. I've drove past this place so many times , and I'm glad I finally gave it a try. The poke bowls are amazing and fully customizable. The fish was the best I've ever had, freshest tasting in Tracy. In Love with their poke bowl. You can customize your base, fish or tofu, sauce, and toppings- super fresh and delish! I usually get a salad base (or a mix of salad and sushi rice if I'm eating carbs), tuna, the sriracha garlic aioli, and then add cucumbers, seaweed, green onion, radish, mango...ok basically all the toppings. The rolls that we had were delicious and a good amount. I had the gates of hell, my wife had vegetable rolls and my daughter had the Beijing. The service was great, but expect to wait. Make sure that you tell them that you don't want red onions because they are included on all the rolls. They do have a sign when you walk in to tellyou. The Thai tea and Vietnamese coffee where very good as well. I will definitely be back and can't try the rest of the rolls. read more

My family and I were in Tracy for the first time. We decided to try Satomi for lunch. The restaurant is owned by a very sweet and friendly family. Their food is delicious and the menu has many vegetarian options. The rolls were excellent, especially the Veggie Delight roll. The miso soup and tofu udon were fantastic as well. Modest restaurant but it makes up in exceptional service and yummy food. Their menu has something for everyone, combination plates, poke bowls, and sushi rolls. Fish was very fresh and our hot plate (chicken chow main) was cooked to order and generous enough for sharing. Service was quick and we didn't have to ask for water refills (that's important). I finally ventured inside Satomi and ordered some Poke to go for lunch a few days ago and it was excellent! I wish I would have been doing this sooner. I see it on Postmates, will create an order, but then ultimately decide not to submit it because the order comes to almost $30 when adding all the toppings, a service fee, delivery fee-- although poke is one of my favorite foods, I could just never justify spending that much on one bowl lol. The same bowl in store is only $12 (adding avocado and crab salad). The sashimi was very fresh, veggies and toppings also also excellent. The order process was very hassle free-- just fill out a small sheet with your custom order and they have it made in a few minutes. Can't wait for the next time I stop in for some poke! read more

I am so happy we decided to walk in to Satomi!! They have so much love and flavor in everything they make. The tuna is fresh and the meld of flavors is amazing. &the price is the cherry on top. The food here has been amazing in all of my experiences. Prices are a little pricey considering other options like mikasa. Serving sizes are perfect and more than enough to feed 2 without fork wars. We went for the second time last night and were disappointed. I got the udon with tempura. The tempura was super greasy and tasted of old oil. The shrimp were not fresh. My container was floating in grease when we took the food out. I took off all the tempura batter and the vegetables were soggy. Udon noodles were overcooked and broth was ok. But then I'm used to ramen and udon from the Bay Area. For the sushi it's a mixed bag. The fish was fresh, but the rolls were those you find on this side of the Altamont - heavily americanized, way too much mayonnaise and sauce and huge! So much rice!!! Not the kind of sushi one is used to getting in the Bay Area. So pass on this too. Sorry but no. Service on the other hand was lovely. The staff are super helpful and friendly. If you like americanized Japanese food you probably will like this place. read more
