We had breakfast, not the worst but not the best. It was OK. Service was good, attentive but not intrusive. Generous and filling portion of food. Definitely no rush to move us along. This morning was my first visit to Satterwhite's. I'd heard such good things about it here on Yelp, in a local restaurant group I'm in, and from my husband's employees. I'd even seen a menu showing that they served creamed chipped beef on toast or biscuits and I love that and was excited to try their take on it. Sadly, they don't serve it anymore. We had a rare morning with time to spare and spent it trying out Satterwhites. I'm sad that we were disappointed. I'd hoped to find a local dive to enjoy some good grub occasionally as I've been missing a place like that since moving from my hometown. I can tell this is that place to a lot of folks. It had a worn-in, neighborly, casual feel that I did enjoy. The ambiance is about where my compliments end. To be frank, I won't be coming back here for breakfast. Between my husband and I, we ordered 3 biscuits with sausage gravy, a slice of country ham, and a cup of grits with two cups of ice water for a total of $22 plus tip. The grits were made with water instead of milk or cream, had no detectable seasoning, and had no flavor. I am a lifelong lover of grits, but this was like eating water. I added a bunch of salt and pepper and spooned the leftovers of my gravy onto the grits to make them taste like something. The biscuits were fine. The sausage gravy seemed to also be made with water. It was not creamy and lacked any seasoning. The only flavor it had was from the sausage chunks that were in it. It just seemed like thickened water. Again, I had to liberally add salt and pepper to make it taste like something. My husband had the country ham slice but he gave me a bite. It was delicious. It did look just like the ones I get at the grocery store in the little package though. It was thin and somewhat processed. The cups of water have advertising printed on them which I don't really appreciate when I'm out paying for a meal. If there's local advertising, I prefer it to be on a communal bulletin board so I can choose to look at it or not. And finally, it was time to pay. I'd recently gotten $30 birthday cash in a card from my in-laws and this is what I chose to spend it on. My husband went up to pay with my $30 ( for the $22 meal) and got $17 in change. He let the cashier know that was wrong and she seemed genuinely grateful and thanked him for being honest about it and gave him the correct change. He said she was real sweet, and I know mistakes happen and this time it would have been in our favor if he hadn't said something, but it's not a great feeling. We left a tip and left feeling disappointed that we hadn't made breakfast ourselves and wasted our money. Did we leave hungry? No. Did we leave feeling satisfied? Also, no. read more

My sister told us about breakfast at Satterwhite. So when we were in town for my mom's 95th birthday, my brother and I decided to try it out. Grand slam home run the biscuits and the sausage links are now my favorite . Can't wait to come back when we visit again. A hidden gem just over the county line into Goochland. Welcoming staff, incredibly fast service and great coffee!! I love the country diner feel. We stopped in for breakfast. The restaurant is a very quaint country style place which was very fitting. We went around 9:45 am on a Saturday, so it was very crowded. There aren't a lot of places to sit or places to wait outside, but the food made up for it. Service was very good and everybody seemed to bounce off of each other if they saw something that needed to be done. The food was amazing, I got the biggest breakfast in town, and for the price (10.75 I believe), it was an amazing deal for a lot of food. Both parents got the biscuits and gravy, and from what I tried of theirs, it was amazing! I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back. Overall, if I could score this with halves, this would easily be a 4.5, but with the lack of seating or waiting area I have to go with a 4. read more

I went here for the first time just recently and decided to also invite two of my teenagers and my elderly parents. But...this place was a hit! I've been wanting to find a good breakfast spot and this was great. I know they've been here a long time but I have not! Newer to this side of town and I'm glad I found this spot. I had the corn beef has and it was fantastic. My daughter had chocolate chip pancakes and loved it. Rest of the table did the big breakfast and everyone was happy. If you're looking for the diner vibe, please visit this little gem on the border of Goochland and Henrico. Upon arrival, my mom and I were greeted as if we were family. You can tell that the wait staff enjoyed their job and connecting with guests. Everyone was helpful and no one stuck to just one table/section. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs and my mom ordered the breakfast combo. It was the weekend of Easter and they had eggs filled with candy on the table for guests with children. I thought that it was a sweet touch and showed how much they cared for their guests and the dining experience. While it is small in size, they make up for it in hospitality and food. Since moving to the area a few months ago, we have been looking for good a diner for breakfast. This isn't it. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. My omelette was not good. Supposedly, a three egg omelette, but if three eggs were used, they must have been quail eggs. The sausage was flavorless, but the bacon was good. There was definitely an odd flavor to the eggs. I'm not sure if they have a separate pan for the eggs, but if not, that would be a good call! We went there yesterday for lunch. Wife: Ordered a cheese burger and fries, everything was 5 stars. Me: Ordered hamburger steak with onions and gravy, sides of green beans, mac n cheese and corn bread. The steak was way over cooked, the only way I could eat it was because the gravy and onions were delicious. The green beans and mac n cheese were 5 star. The corn bread was very bad and I was unable to eat it. The only way to fix it would be with a new recipe. I will give Satterwhites another try and hope this was just a bad day. read more

Satterwhites is a small family run place, open for breakfast and lunch, 7 days a week. At least on weekends, it is always crowded and there is frequently a short wait. It's good for breakfast, with the standard egg and waffle and pancake dishes. The coffee is fresh and the bacon is crispy. Since we generally get there around noon, it is great that they offer breakfast and lunch items til they close at 2 PM -- wife always gets breakfast I almost always get lunch. Their burgers are top shelf, especially the Manakin burger which is "hand packed" and 2/3 of a pound (it also comes in a double patty version for 1 1/3 pounds.) This is a juicy, tasty burger. Also available are limited deli sandwiches, great meatloaf, a few subs. The food comes out quick, the service is friendly, and the food tastes pretty good. A few negatives -- they charge a 3.99% credit card fee, which is just unfortunate. Note to owner -- add it to your cost of goods and raise prices if you must, for goodness sake, don't antagonize your guests by making it a "non-cash adjustment" on the ticket. (Besides, if you are really paying 3.99% for card services you need to renegotiate your deal. Just saying.) A second negative is cleanliness. It sucks to lose a $50 pair of khakis at a $25 brunch just because the staff can't properly wipe down the table edges. Ketchup on the edge of the table on my most recent visit left me with a nasty mess that wouldn't come out. Made it a very expensive hamburger. Mostly two and four tops, but there is one table for six and they'll push tables together for 8, and there is a counter. read more

This place is exactly what you'd expect it to be, and it's perfectly serviceable for what it is, which is a small mom-and-pop breakfast joint in the middle of nowhere that cares for and caters to locals. There's no shame in their game in that respect, which is admirable. The food is Middle-of-the-road and basic, and you definitely get what you pay for. Prices are spot on, and reasonable. If you're looking for a dining experience, you'll be completely underwhelmed by the whole package (food, environment, atmosphere, etc...), but if you want basic food at an ok price served in a time machine that takes you back to the cheap wood paneling and ripped-up, vinyl-covered booths of 1988, this is the place. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it's on my way to work and close to home, so I'll stop in occasionally. read more

Satterwhite's has been around seemingly forever. They serve great quality food at reasonable prices. I had breakfast with a friend and it was fantastic. They serve some amazing iced tea in HUGE glasses.... There is nothing surprising on the menu except the variety and prices. There is little competition out here in this neck of the woods so the fact that the food is so good is a nice surprise. Breakfast is served all day and they serve "the biggest breakfast in town".
