We came here years ago and it was awful so we never went back. I'd been hearing it mentioned here and there and thought maybe we'd give it another try. So we did. Turns out the people that had the franchise for that location weren't great at running it, so the company took it back. Our experience this time was great! It was SO cold when we went in there, that we immediately decided to eat outside! The guy behind the counter was super friendly and helpful. We ordered our food, got our drinks and went outside. My husband ordered a salad and that was brought out first and then our calzones. Everything was really good! And the guy who took our order actually came outside a few times to see if we needed anything and he would remove anything we no longer needed on the table. The calzones are LARGE! We each had half of ours and brought the rest home. Next time we can split a salad and a calzone and we'll probably both still be full! The food and service were both really good! I ordered online and it was simple and the food was prepared faster than the estimated time. The size of the calzone is pretty big and would have been my whole meal for the day (might even have some leftovers). I got Meet Me In St Louie and the food itself had good flavour although a little bit salty in my opinion. It was tasty but I don't think I can eat the entire thing in one sitting. There's plenty of seating available at this location and the service was not too bad. The area gets pretty busy though so I assume the place would get packed during lunch and dinner rush. read more

We have been to several Sauce on the Side locations. We went to the Chesterfield location and it did not disappoint. We ordered Meet Me in Louie (instead of meat sauce, we subbed for garlic butter) and Cock-A-Doodle Noodle. Both calzones were to die for. Their crust is always flaky and soft. Cock-A-Doodle Noodle has Mac n' cheese, roasted chicken, bacon, and lots of cheese. So delicious. read more

Additionally, the food was hot and ready when promised and we were attended to immediately upon entering the restaurant. The two calzones that we ordered were the Roasty Toasty and the monthly special, Don Corlezone (Gioia's Hot Salami, Capicola, Pepperoni, Rosemary Veggies, Fresh Basil, Provolone and Mozzarella) I want to preface my next remarks that we are from the Northeast and I had worked in Manhattan for years. However, the dough is adequate though very different than a traditional, and delicious, pizza dough used in a traditional calzone and stromboli. The pesto dipping sauce was good, not great. I love Calzones! I don't see them very often on a menu so I was surprised to see the neon sign in the window of this restaurant. I got the menu and found it dominated by many calzones, I ordered the meaty one. I also got a glass of Chardonnay and took it to an open table. After about 20 minutes it was delivered hot to my table. True to the name of the place the sauce was on the side. It had a dark golden crust and was filled with cheese, salzitsa, pepperoni and sauce. It was delicious but it was also too large to be consumed in a single meal. If you are like me you will want a doggie bag to take it home. I think it delivers good value for the dollar. Sauce on the Side is simply the best!!!! I always get the Costanza. I recently started to cut back on eating meat so I was thrilled to see that Sauce on the Side has vegan options! Instead of pepperoni in my Costanza I got the vegan pepperoni which was delicious. I also need to mention that Sauce on the Side had the best soda! They are all local sodas and the cherry cola is the best soda I have ever had. I have had their dessert calzones before and those are delicious as well. We were on our way out of town, but wanted to grab a bite for lunch. I was excited when I remembered this location opened up so we stopped by. We ordered the roasty toasty and cockadoodle noodle. We waited for quite a bit of time for the calzones. When it finally arrived, my calzone was cold. my friend's calzone was slightly warmer. As I was eating, I noticed that I bit something hard and pulled out a chicken bone which was also not pleasant. Overall, I was not satisfied with my experience and I overheard staff say it had been a mess of a day. I am not sure if it was a fluke. Calzones! Finally, we made it in to give this a try, and I'm glad we did! Although the cashier didn't offer up any suggestions as we navigated the menu, we figured everything out and ended up ordering the "Meet Me in St. Louie" and the "Fatty B." The calzones are large (2 meals for a smaller appetite). I loved the flavor combination in both, but the provel in the Meet Me in St Louie really made the cut. The Fatty B was great, too, but I think the next time we order that we will have them use provel as well. We didn't take a look at the beer/wine menu this time so I can't speak on that, but they do serve Excel (local) sodas. Beware that the salad portions are HUGE. We ended up splitting this between the two of us. -Roasty Toasty Calzone. Beautiful outer layer, seasoned with italian herbs and parm. Inside was a warm concoction of tender pesto Chicken, peppery arugula, red onion, toasted pine nuts, mozzarella, ricotta, and garlic oil. Very happy with our meal, we ordered 4 calzones and a salad, probably a little too much for our family of 4 but it was our first time and we didn't know what to expect. The Meat me in St Louis calzone was excellent. The dough was piping hot, crispy on the outside with a soft and flavorful offering of meat, cheese and sauce. This one came with a marinara & meat sauce, each calzone comes with a possibly different sauce. My wife ordered the walnut & strawberry salad. It was perfect complement to the calzone. She also ordered the figgy piggy which was probably a little too much for her by herself to finish. I would recommend sharing a calzone and a salad. The flavors were very unique especially in this offering, you wouldn't expect figs to work with pizza but somehow it works, I would recommend asking for either extra sauce inside or more on the side. 4 calzones were probably a little too much for a family of 4 people (two adults and two tween & teen) and we brought home 3 calzone half's. read more

To start off it's a calzone place and has a lot of verity in many categories. I can say it did take a bit for the food to come but not an abnormally long amount of time. I wish they offered a low carb option such as making a calzone into a salad, or cooking all the toppings on a low carb crust, but one can dream and also pick from the salad menu. I got the Italian in a size large and holy plates, this salad was packin! I loved the herb flavors in the vinegarette, too. Unfortunately I don't have any calzone reviews to share since I am low carb, but the few bites I've had of friends' calzones have all been delicious.
