I'm not sure what this place even is, despite having dined there yesterday. It serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and doesn't seem to specialize in anything in particular. It's in a weirdly large building that looks like a place where you'd go to get lasik surgery. I visited after a run on a day where the heat index was like 109, so I didn't spend that much time inside, just enough to drip sweat all over the front counter and the floor in the vestibule. We sat outside in an area that seems like the place where you'd pull up and unload your luggage at a hotel. A member of our group says she once attended some sort of Xmas pop-up in the basement here where you were charged a cover and then expected to pay for drinks and pizza, so... uh, caveat emptor. We ordered at the little bar up front, but I'm not sure if that's also the case if you dine inside. These places always flip out when there's umpteen different people ordering separately, because they only have but so many of those numbers you set on the table so they know where to bring your food. It ended up not being an issue with us, because who else was going to engage in al fresco dining during a heat advisory? This place serves pizza, but it didn't look that good in the few photos I saw. Granted, food often looks like crap in Yelp photos. Also, there's an emphasis on '90s-style health food, organic ingredients and what have you. There's a Salmon BLT that's featured prominently that seemed like it might be the thing to get, but I didn't know enough about this place to be ordering fish, and I'd already been meaning to eat a bacon cheeseburger for the past several days. Maybe next time. There is no bacon cheeseburger as a separate menu item unto itself. I figured I might just order a cheeseburger and add bacon, but I'm not sure if that's an option, and this wasn't a regular cheeseburger. It had a few different weird cheeses on it, spinach and maybe some other things. Then I saw the Dill-bert, which seemed like it might be really good. It has, among other things, dill Havarti cheese (whatever that is), avocado, and of course, bacon. It's served on a wheat bun, which, whatever. Its name is not a tribute to Scott Adams, as far as I know, but this is Ballwin. The Dill-bert did not disappoint. No Diddy. The beef comes from one of those special farms where the cows are all given names as if they were human beings, groomed on a daily basis by trafficking victims and read bedtime stories, and you really can taste the difference. It's a better quality meat. It's also expertly prepared. It's well-seasoned and cooked until it develops a nice char on the exterior. It was a bit more done on the inside than I require, but that may have been unavoidable. For a side, there was an option of tater tots cooked in an air fryer, like if your mom was feeling lazy. I didn't see any french fries, but maybe I'm going blind. I ordered a side salad, which is my thing these days. Sometimes they're surprisingly good, and a french fry is a french fry, unless you're at McDonald's. This one was pretty good, but it was definitely on the health-food side of things--very fresh and lightly but sufficiently dressed with something citrus-y and not too oily. Oh, and I was duped into purchasing a whiskey sour slushie. It just seemed like it would be so refreshing. It must have cost nearly as much as my meal, given what my bill came out to. They must think I'm a sucker. Did they receive advance notice of my visit? It did kinda hit the spot, and I probably got drunker than I would have otherwise, because I was suffering from a minor heatstroke, so there was that. read more

Stopped in on Friday night 1/23/26 at The Wolf and decided to try out the veggie pizza and a cup of decaf coffee on a very cold st louis night 7 degrees out. When the pizza arrived it was piping hot and very tasty. The veggies, mushrooms, onions green and red peppers were fresh the crust had a good but not heavy taste to it, the red sauce has a nice tang about it a bit more cheese than I like but it did not harm the taste of the pizza. I really dig this place!! If there was a 4.3-4.5 that would be my score. Lively, cool, relaxed coffee shop vibe. Decor is hip, but not overdone. Great mix of music!! Nice cozy warm feeling and eclectic friendly staff. Had the vanilla latte (love it when it's in a big, ceramic mug!), a breakfast club (which was good, but not great) wifey had the Black Bean burger (out flippin' standing...I snuck a bite ) and the fruit as a side was perfect. Bottom line...awesome place to eat, drink, hang with friends and I highly recommend. The perfect Saturday morning spot and I can see myself logged on during the week, answering those pesty work emails while enjoying a cup of Joe. Give a try. We visited The Wolf for dinner a week or so ago, and as always, we enjoyed a great meal. This time we sat outside on a nice evening. I initially planned to get a burger, as my wonderful wife and our daughter each ordered, but I saw the Ruben and was intrigued... I then saw it was not corned beef but mushrooms and I then recognized... "it's The Wolf... it WILL be good... order it..." and so I did... it is similar to a beef Ruben and yet different and unique and good and highly recommended... I recommend that you try the mushroom Ruben at The Wolf the next time you dine there. Great burgers and tots, and they will cook that 6 oz beauty perfectly, even rare if you prefer (which I do). The only downside is the prices. They are expensive. My wife eats there most weeks with her parents, and this is the first time I've been there because I couldn't bring myself to pay $14.50 for a burger and tots. They don't have French fries. The tots are scratch made and convection bakes, and are nothing like any low quality tater tot I've ever had. I'm trying to not be so overly frugal, and the burger really was excellent, so I will start going with my wife when she meets her parents there. read more

Every time I've come here I've had weird experiences. They have great food and drinks but one time staff asked a friend and I to leave because we were sitting for too long apparently and then I came to get some work done today and they have no wifi alongside a snarky sign that says "talk to each other!" Kind of a contradiction there. Not sure what kind of cafe doesn't have wifi in 2026, especially for those like myself who are professionals, or students, looking to sip a drink and get some things done with so much of their seating being for singles. The hotspot from your phone doesn't work well because they don't have full bars on major carriers so it messed up my whole day plan. read more

Waited in a long line that moved slowly. I like their breakfast menu options. I ordered the Ham Scramble. Unfortunately they don't have smoothies. If you dine in them they give you a number and you display it at your table so they know where to deliver your food. The Ham Scramble was hot when it arrived at my table. The Ham Scramble has scrambled eggs, diced ham, cheddar cheese and breakfast potatoes. Most of the scramble was delicious. Stumbled upon this cute place with a friend and was quite surprised at all they had to offer. One of the first things I noticed walking in were the ceilings and the bench table booths. I've always found the umbrella ceilings fascinating because they're unique and none are ever the same. Their menu has a little bit of everything- breakfast, lunch, sandwiches, pizza, and even things for vegans! Opting for something light and healthy, I chose the breakfast bowl and went with the black beans and salsa on the side; my friend got the French toast and three pieces of bacon as a side. Ordering was simple and was done at the register. Once completed, you're then given a number and can choose a table of your liking. Note, they do have outside seating but it was a wee bit chilly, so we opted for inside. The bench tables (idk what else to call them) were unique as they sat up rather high but also had a foot rest underneath. They were steady for a breakfast run, so we weren't in too much of a hurry but were definitely hungry. I'd say it took a little bit longer for the food to come out than we had anticipated, but we were relieved once it did come. Although my dish was pretty good, it lacked seasoning of any kind. Thankfully, the salt and pepper were close by and after a few sprinkles, it made a world 8; a difference. I should also say, I opted for the cold press juice (not pictured). It was okay but didn't wow me, so I decided to stick with water and coffee that I split with my friend. Overall, the dishes were good and service were pretty good. This was my first time at the Wolf Cafe. Went to the Bling pop-up and I was highly disappointed. Had reservations for 7:45-9:45pm. When we arrived at 7:40pm, there was a line down the hallway and it took about 10 minutes for us to get seated. It took over an hour for us to get our first drink. After we received our first drink, no one ever came over to ask if we would like a second one. By the end of our reservation, a gentleman stopped by our table and apologized for the wait, acknowledging that service was not up to par. One positive about the experience was the food! Recommend the hummus, croissant pretzel with the blueberry mustard (delicious!) and the onion dip. Reservations cost $20 per seat for a regular experience and $25 for the VIP experience which comes with a glass of champagne and you sit in a separate room. The holiday decorations were very festive and chic. Overall, would not recommend this holiday pop-up experience for the price of reservations and extreme wait time for cocktails. There's a lot of potential and very nice staff but improvements need to be made. read more

The walls are wrapped like packages and the ceiling is adorned in ribbons and bows! Favorite cocktails: Merry Little Cocktail & Christmas Island Favorite snacks: Pepperoni Pizza Puff & Herbed Goat Cheese Reservations are required. Tickets are $20, but you should splurge on the $25 VIP Lounge ticket that includes a glass of champagne upon arrival, complimentary snacks, cozy private seating, and access to 2 exclusive cocktails. The chocolate chip cookies have a cult following, so I'm happy one of the drinks was garnished with a cookie. Plus we got to try a peppermint chocolate chip cookie, too. One of my favorite places in STL! It's such a cute little lunch spot. It's also a great spot to grab coffee, a smoothie/juice, breakfast or a casual dinner. My favorite thing about this place is their general concern for being socially responsible. They produce significantly less waste than other restaurants and have many vegetarian/vegan options to choose from. This place really has something for everyone on their menu, another reason I love it so much. They have burgers, pizza, salad, meat & vegetarian sandwiches, and good appetizers. I got the chili & veggie sandwich. Both super good. The veggie sandwich came with a really good sauce on it and was super fresh and served on soft, sweet bread. A great combo. The chili was filled with beans and different veggies, I was a huge fan. My grandpa got the turkey club with tater tots. One thing about The Wolf is they air fry their tater tots making them SOOOO crunchy!!! Truly the best tater tots ever. They also have a selection of bakery items. My favorite chocolate chip cookie ever is from The Wolf. It's very different from what you might expect. It is NOT your typical soft, warm, gooey, super-sweet cookie. It crumbles easily, isn't too sweet, and is pretty dense on the inside. Its soooo good, probably pretty different from every chocolate chip cookie you've ever had. Definitely worth a try. read more

Upon walking in, my husband and I were pleasantly surprised by how cute this small restaurant was. It was still decorated for their Bling Christmas pop up so that might explain the fun looking atmosphere. My husband had just gotten off his midnight shift and we decided to do a date "morning" instead of a date night since his schedule is upside down right now. We were optimistic and happy to try something new. That's where our positive experience ended. One person was working the counter when we walked in. She was helping someone so we stood and waited our turn. There were no signs telling us to seat ourselves and never having been there we waited to be greeted by another server or worker. Never happened. When the woman was done helping her customer my husband asked her if we should seat ourselves. She said yes. We sit down and again- unsure what the protocol is since we are new to the establishment, we waited for a server to bring menus. They were not on the table like you would normally see in a "seat yourself" kind of place. At least 3 people walk back and forth without saying a word to us (as we sat looking obviously clueless), Ironically as we sat and waited, I saw a sign that said "We don't hate here" in English and several other languages. Well. Apparently they don't show kindness either because literally, workers walking past us, don't even acknowledge our presence and no, it was not busy. No one asked if they could help us. No one offered to show us the ropes. Cool. It's a figure it out kind of place. No problem with counter service. So my husband got up and looked around and found the menus by the counter. We looked at the menu. Everything looked good. We loved the farm to table items. We liked how it actually said where your food came from. This is why we chose to try The Wolf Cafe in the first place. But, as we talked, and continued to sit for at least 10 minutes without so much as a head nod from an employee, we decided this was not how we wanted to start our day or spend our money. It seemed we were not welcome so, we quietly got up and left. I think the take away from this review for anyone who maybe reading this is, food and atmosphere are important. My husband and I love an intentionally decorated local restaurant and who doesn't love locally sourced food. However, human interaction, kindness, acknowledgement mean far more. Another sign said they had no wifi and to "talk to each other". The staff should probably take that to heart. We would rather go to waffle house and have Sally Sue make us feel welcome and seen than go to a decently cute place with a really bad vibe. We did go to another breakfast place in The Valley where we were greeted by 3 different people before even getting to our table. Any employee who walked by smiled. THAT'S how you do business friends. Last night my husband, SIL, friend, and I braved the cold and snow to visit the Wolf Taproom for dinner and some drinks. My husband and I had been there for their holiday popup, Bling!, but not during normal operation. The taproom entrance is around the other side of the building from the cafe entrance, and is one level down from the cafe. The cafe was closed when we went, but I believe you can go in the cafe level and take the elevator down if you park on that side of the building. We visited in a Saturday night and there was plenty of parking. This building has its own parking lot. I have visited the cafe during the day and the lot was more full, so I think the availability just depends on the day/time of day. The taproom has a large section of high tops and a section with about 6 or 8 large picnic tables like you'd see in a bierhall. They also have a separate lounge room which you access once you're inside the taproom. We didn't go in there, but my husband and I sat in there for the holiday popup and it has a cozy/classy and intimate vibe. We chose to sit at the picnic table since we were planning to get a few pizzas and the high top tables looked pretty small. We grabbed a menu from the bar to peruse the options and make our choices. The beer list is on the wall and the cocktails and food are on the paper menu. I tried the Pickle Lane cocktail because I absolutely love pickles. I must not love the taste of the liquor in the cocktail because I was hoping it would taste basically like straight-up pickle juice but it didn't. My SIL tasted it and liked it more than I did. The bartender said it's a polarizing drink - you love it or hate it! My SIL got the Cafe Beignet cocktail (like an espresso martini), my friend got the Dapper Dan cocktail (like an old fashioned), and my husband got a winterbock beer. We also got a second round which included a couple more beers and the Fairy drink, which was light and refreshing (prosecco, green tea, lemon, and some other ingredients). Everyone enjoyed their drinks! The food menu in the taproom is pizza plus a few appetizers. We ended up choosing three of the 12" pizzas to share: Korean bbq, Hawaiian, and hot honey pepperoni. They were all delicious! One thing that threw me off a little bit was that the chicken is breaded on the Korean bbq pizza, but it was still good. They use fresh pineapple on their Hawaiian pizza, and there's also fresh jalepeno on it for a little kick. The hot honey pepperoni pizza seems like a new-ish classic combo and it doesn't disappoint! I would order any of these pizzas again, but I have my eye on the pickle pizza for next time! A live band showed up and started playing around 7 or so. The bar didn't initially turn off the music playing over the sound system, but they ended up turning it off so the only music was the band. They were pretty good! We had a great experience here and will return! It's nice to find a fun, chill hangout spot in west county! I recommend checking the taproom and cafe out! read more

I reviewed The Wolf a number of years ago and gave them three stars and that was appropriate for that visit. Over the years, my opinion changed! We love this restaurant and come here somewhat often for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The decor is eclectic, fun, and interesting. There's usually good music playing in the background. There are a number of tables inside, as well as patio seating. The whole vibe is relaxed, with a community feel. Orders are placed at a counter and food is delivered to your table. Employees are friendly and laid back. It can take a little time to get your food, so get something to drink and relax while you wait. The food is delicious! I've never had anything there that I didn't care for. Some of my favorites are the French toast for breakfast and the sweet n salty grilled cheese for lunch or dinner. There are vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. The Wolf has a taproom and cocktail lounge in the same building. We haven't been yet, but we hope to remedy that soon! read more
