This review is only my opinion, number one this place is in number one in customer service. Not only do they read back your order they check on you at the table multiple times to make sure you are happy. Second this place is mega clean and nice. The food, we just got a calzone each which is dinner plate size and beautiful when it hits the table in about 12-15 min. It's just ok.. Not a huge flavor but it's truly the sauce that makes it. I'm not sure that I've ever had a calzone so excellently prepared as I did at Sauce on the Side. We ordered 2 different calzones(Hot Honey Bird & Meat Me in St. Louie) and both of them were well cooked throughout with the bread being burnt. They have found a way to strike the perfect balance. Was also impressed with the many different calzone options. The server was very helpful in finding a local IPA that wasn't available outside of the Indy area. My wife and I were downtown for an appointment but when it was over we decided to grab lunch which is always a challenge on a Monday when so many restaurants are not open. Someone we had met during the meeting asked if we had tried Sauce on the Side which was one of her favorite places to grab a meal. I hadn't tried it yet and checked Yelp to see if it was open on Mondays, so it sounded like a nice suggestion. I know it says it is categorized as Salads, Desserts, and Italian, but I figured I would go for the Italian. Having not read any reviews before going other than seeing it had a good overall rating. I was a bit surprised that most of the Italian menu items were served as Calzones or "folds". It is definitely not the kind of Italian restaurant where you find a wide variety of pastas and seafood. But they do have a lot of flavor combinations in large folded calzones, each served with a small cup of sauce on the side. I didn't think about it at the time, but since the meals and sauces are separate, I wonder if you can choose different sauces for your calzones than what is "normal" for each order. I ordered the Meat me in St Louie calzone which came with a meaty tomato sauce. My wife ordered the Five O which is a spin on Hawaiian that came with a chili sauce that wasn't too spicy for her. Note that the servings, even folded cover have a dinner plate so we ended up getting to go boxes to save half our meals for dinner. We didn't try any desserts or sides because the meals are big and filling. They do carry some beer and cider in cans for customers who don't have restrictions on their lunchtime selections. The calzones get pretty well toasted, so you may note a bit of browning on the crust (or blackening) and looking through the photos of the food on Yelp as well as our own meals, they aren't the most photogenic /appealing looking meals you can order, but the flavor was fine. MY wife commented that the ham in her Five O was diced very small and didn't seem to stand up to the other flavors. Bigger pieces of ham would have made it more appealing to her. Inside dining was easy. We ordered at the front counter (although we could have called in an order.) The hostess said to pick our own table since there weren't many customers when we were there, so no concerns about social distancing for us. We also were able to get boxes for our remaining food and even small cup lids for our remaining sauces so they didn't spill during transport home. Parking is available mainly through metered street parking. There is a garage which can get pricy if you stay very long. I think the garage is open to the public but it is connected with a hotel across from the Fieldhouse, so you may want to call ahead before arriving. It was good food, but with all the options on most days downtown, I don't know that I would drive from my home and pick this place again. If I worked in the area, I would probably explore more options on their menu. Review #3888 read more

Omg. This place is AMAZING!!!! First of all, amazing location. After a Pacers game or any other event at the field house, you can walk here in less than 30 seconds. The ambiance is really cool and they have their own unique sodas. I enjoyed their root beer. The service is great and the food is even better! Normally I'm not a calzone gal, sorry Ben Wyatt, but theirs blew it out of the park. So cheesy and the crust was buttery and the right amount of crunchy/chewy. I ordered the Meat me in St Louie, Pancho Villa, and the Nutella banana calzone. So when I first saw that they were new to Door Dash I passed. I wanted a pizza and historically calzones just didn't cut it for me. Boy was I wrong! The crust, the toppings, the made fresh sauces! *chefs kiss* they're all soooo good. One thing that I really liked about the sausage in my calzone is that it's the finely minced kind. Flavor in every bite and they're not skimpy on the toppings but do keep in mind that the part that is rolled to keep it together is a little big. I just used it like a breadstick and dipped it in the extra sauces I got to try. Yummy! Hubby got the Pancho Villa and said it was really good. I can't comment because I'm not into the spicy stuff on my pizza. But the star of the show (for me) is the delicious warm Nutella banana calzone. A warm, gooey, buttery calzone stuffed with sliced banana and Nutella that has me day dreaming about it even now weeks after having it last. Pretty solid calzone, I got the fatty B which was great. The ingredients are high quality and loved the roasted whole garlic cloves they use. The cheese was really good, if you love ricotta you might want to order extra as it was a little scarce for my liking. The dough is light and soft with a good chew. The Cock A Doodle Noodle had great flavor with well made Mac and cheese, pancetta and green onions. They also provided a dip to use that was buttery and spicy. It was very tasty and I kept going back for more pieces. I an a sucker for anything s'mores and the calzone hit the spot. Stopped here on way to event at Gainbridge Tuesday eve. Was hoping for quick bite and pleasantly surprised had alcohol too! Of note started at bar upstairs and never waited on us there is how we ended up here! Guy who took order helped with questions about menu. Too many options which is not bad thing:). We all chose salads thinking would be fast. It was busy in dining area although we walked right up to order. There seemed to be several orders that came out late and were incorrect while we waited on ours. The "chef" came out to talk to customers and we asked status of our food. Once out they were tasty salads although one gal was brought cup of chicken she had ordered on salad they had forgotten long after done eating. She was offered another glass of wine but again were on way to show and dinner was already delayed but they were offering something so appreciated this gesture. So we decided to order deliver. The food came hot and quickly. We started with the jalapeño and Cheddar bite sides. They were paired with strawberry chipotle jam. The bites weren't very good. They tasted like baked sausage rolls just without the sausage and the jam was processed tasting. Next "who came first" I love the idea of a runny egg in a calzone with chicken and other yummy stuff. I ordered the Meat Me in St Louie and it was full of all good meats (pepperoni and sausage) along with ricotta and mozzarella with a crust that not sure how they got it so crisp in 15 min. I happened to be going to an event at Gainbridge field house and noticed that this location is across the street so its very convenient in that regards. My family all likes various iterations of calzones and surprisingly they could even accommodate my daughter's picky tastes by making a just cheese calzone with no ricotta. I wasn't super hungry so I decided to share with my son. He ordered the Which came first. I am glad I let my so. puck as I probably would not have chosen that one. However it was great. I ended up loving the salsa verde to dip it in. They have the best dough and somehow get these cooked just right which is no easy task. My wife ordered a strawberry fields salad. It must have been amazing as my son who must have been famished regretted giving me half his calzone and ate half my wife's salad. I don't think I have ever seen him eat a salad before. Lots of televisions in the dining area that looks out at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Loved our calzones - hot, plentiful and as advertised. Many standards recipes to chose from and you can also modify. The Roasty Toasty gets high marks for the pine nuts and pesto sauce. Dishes run mostly in the $10 range. With drinks and tip, this is a $30 outing for two. My son, daughter and I are in the area for a cheer competition that brings thousands of people to the area every year. I am not from the area and placed an order for this restaurant to pick up. I didn't know at the time of pick up that I had in fact ordered from a location 30 minutes away. I have two young kids with me and had to park on a busy street and go in. I was not greeted in a friendly manner, I explained my order and that I had been waiting outside and was told "we don't see the curbside orders if we aren't at the computer". Ok that's fine but the manner in which I was spoken to as a customer was uncalled for. I then asked for my order and that's when they came and told me I ordered from the other location. Ok, once again, fine, I understand, my mistake. Instead of telling me this happens (which I found out from the actual location I ordered from once I left this location, who were very pleasant on the object) and they will work with me and the other location and get it fixed, they proceeded to give me an attitude while I explained that I can't go to the other location as it's too far away, and I have two kids sitting in my car at the curb. I was put off by the way I was treated at this location, and even after speaking to the location I had ordered from, I refused to go back into the place where I was clearly a burden and unwanted as a customer.
