Absolutely no warmness to it, at all. When I advised the waiter, he placed the food in the microwave to heat it up. I didn't pay money to not have my food served fresh. My boyfriend and I decided to stop in and get brunch here last weekend. We live right down the street. All the food was amazing! Their Dulce de Leche French toast was hands down the best French toast I've ever had! We both got omelettes as well which were delicious. He got a Berry Blast juice and I had a cappuccino. The juices are made fresh every day. My boyfriend drank the whole thing and even got another one. We have officially found our new brunch spot! Fresh ingredients, yummy food, spotless glasses, and nice staff. I haven't written a review in a really long time, but my breakfast today was so good I had to share. Food was excellent! The fruit side was fruit I actually wanted to eat instead of the sad melon cups you get at some places. Orange, watermelon, pineapple, strawberries, and a couple blueberries - all perfectly ripe - yum! The glasses were actually clean which in my experience dining out in Choosing is rare. Like 20% rare. This is one of my biggest dislikes at most restaurants - glasses aren't like clean clean and you can smell that wet dog odor on them. Anyway, not here... the glasses and dishes were spotless. I just had the most excellent first time visit to Savanna! The llapingachos(Ecuadorian) were divine, so good, that I told my server that it was the most delicious thing I've had in a long time! Even the salad side was beautiful and perfectly dressed, and I ordered a fruit salad side that also was perfection. My server was just the sweetest, brightest light and she called me, my lady, which was just darling! I don't know that my experience could be more topped, maybe the Mighty Leaf teas they carry aren't my favorite, just doesn't brew strong enough to allow for a hot water refill, but I can deal with that! Great place for brunch. I've been here twice and the food is great! I got the turkey chorizo hash which was tasty. Second time I got the mote pillo, which is a traditional Ecuadorian dish consisting of hominy corn and eggs seasoned well, and it was delicious! They have fresh fruit juices and smoothies, highly recommend getting one. I give it 4 stars because of the service at my first visit, waitress was a little rude. read more

We have been to Savanna a hundred times (at least) and it only occurred to me today to write a review (although I was very happy to see so many positive reviews here already!). We obviously love this place and have never had a bad meal. We often get the huevos rancheros or the llapingachos - which are both fantastic - but we also get the Savanna breakfast (straight up eggs-your-way, etc. etc.) or the avocado toast. The fresh fruit drinks/smoothies are great and the cappuchinos are fantastic. As another reviewer mentioned, the fruit side is really good - fresh fruit you are excited to eat. Food was amazing and service was great. I got a chocolate milkshake and it was so rich and tasty. I also had the Red Velvet Pancakes which taste just like red velvet cake as well as bacon and eggs cooked to perfection. Savanna never lets me down. I've been here 3 times. The most recent being this morning. I was hankering for a good Sunday morning breakfast, and immediately I decided to head to Savanna. I was solo so I sat at the bar. My server, Luis, was very friendly & accommodating. I started with a bold- tasting cup of fresh brewed Joe with cream. Why does my home-brewed coffee never taste this good? For breakfast, I ordered the Egg white garden omelet with breakfast potatoes & wheat toast. The omelet was very fresh tasting & delicious! Great Food, decent place, average service. Our waiter didn't really seem to like talking or showing much personality, but at least the food was delicious! The food is a blend of Mexican flavors with American breakfast and it was very filling and tasty. THE GREAT PLAINS Sometimes serendipity throws you a bone, other times it screws you, and every once in a while it's a straight wash. Yesterday was one of those latter occasions when the ever-ebullient LeAnn P insisted on going to Danny's Egghead Diner.....only to discover that it was closed on 11/6/16. In the mood for morning food, we found the next closest place serving eggs and bacon, which just so happened to be Savanna Restaurant. A quick Google search reveals that they serve "breakfast and lunch fare mixing classic American and Ecuadorian flavors." I didn't see a shred of Ecuador anywhere on their menu, so I'm not sure what that's all about. Regardless, we walked in and got seated right away because - surprise! - we were the only customers. Granted, it was 2pm on a Sunday but I incorrectly assumed there would be other late brunch-goers. As their only business at that hour, our server gave us the perfect amount of attention (not overbearing but also not distant). This also meant that the kitchen could take their time in preparing our meal......cuz what else did they have to do? I ordered the typical meat + 2 eggs done sunnyside, with extra crispy bacon, white ciabatta toast and breakfast potatoes ($8.50). It hit the spot but was nothing to phone home about. Good 'tatoes, though. Curious to try something else, I added on the s'mores french toast ($9.50) which turned out to be a giant bust. Two large slices of french toast were topped with melted Nutella and mini marshmallows with some fresh fruit scattered on top. Cloyingly sweet and not all that original, I immediately regretted ordering it (cuz let's be honest, everyone and their grandma makes some variation of s'mores pancakes/waffles/crepes/french toast). LP got the ham & cheese waffle ($11.50) which was little more than a Belgian waffle covered with pieces of smoked ham, a cheese sauce, and 2 eggs face up. The cheese sauce was interesting -- it was clearly homemade but lacking in flavor. The eggs were a tad overcooked, definitely more in "over easy" territory than "sunny side." Oddly enough, it wasn't the worst ham & cheese waffle I've ever had. Bread = 3 Circuses = 4 The restaurant was very clean inside and our server was just fine. Neither LP nor myself were blown away by our food, but since they feature a myriad of interesting dishes on their menu (like the peppered bacon waffle with fried chicken and spicy syrup), I really want to give Savanna Restaurant the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately, despite everything sounding great on paper, the execution left something to be desired. I also noticed some spelling and grammatical typos on their menu, minor stuff but still unprofessional. Definitely on the fence about recommending or returning. I suppose our breakfast just didn't live up to my egg-spectations. TL;DR Was hoping for great, instead got plain. read more

A nice experience today, in the old "Nookie's Tree" space at Halsted and Buckingham, which was empty for too long. Pleasant relaxed quiet atmosphere. Freshly painted, very clean. Extremely attentive correct polite service, a big plus for me. Same menu as their other two locations on Lincoln. Portion sizes are on the small side for me. there is a nice variety of familiar American dishes and some unusual Latin American items which I have tried and enjoyed. reasonably priced food was well prepared and the kitchen was fast. This is a gem when it comes to casual breakfast/brunch/lunch. If you've enjoyed places like Over Easy and Marmalade, you MUST give Savanna a try. In addition to perfectly made breakfast classics, they also offer fresh fruit and juices. If you prefer a healthy side to your meal, they'll let you have freshly cut fruit in lieu of fries or chips- and it's never padded-out with cheap melon. Central and South American influenced specials are perfect for more adventurous eaters, or for those looking for a taste of home. Their Cuban sandwich is especially true to its name. I look forward to trying as much of Savanna's menu as possible. The quality of food, attention to details, and friendly service is hard to beat for the price. Two adults can have a generous breakfast or lunch with all of the fixings for less than $50, including tax and tip (of which, you'll see, the staff is more than deserving). read more

I'm not sure if it was an off day or a regular thing for Savanna but we were seated as soon as we walked in-SCORE! The menu has a lot of classic diner breakfast: waffles, benedict, omelettes, pancakes, french toast. They did have some unique dishes like Red velvet pancakes and s'mores french toast, as well as Mexican dishes like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. I like my breakfast more savory so I opted for the crab and lobster benefit while my boyfriend ordered the chicken and waffles special. For as slow as they were, our order took a while to come out (I'll admit that it didn't help that we were hangry). The benedict had a perfectly cooked egg but the crab and lobster cake was just meh. Unfortunately, this meal made me discover that I don't like red potatoes. It might just be me, but I think they have a weird floral taste. Now my boyfriend's dish looked super impressive with the chicken looking perfectly crisp. A nice touch was that they layered the gravy on the bottom to prevent the dish from going soggy. The downside was that his dish was cold, his chicken was dry and the waffle was soggy. Overall: We were bummed with our mediocre meal.
