We've walked by this place 1000 times and didn't think much of it walking by. Today something in the window caught my eye and we went it. AND soooo glad we did. The items in the store brought back so many memories. We were seriously kids in a candy store. There's a great variety of "throw back" candy. And just so many options over all, including dog treats. Bust out your wallets because it's a bit pricier but so well worth it. My mouth watered eating the pecan caramel paws ( I think that's what it's called) sea salt and milk chocolate is always oh so good. I try & stop here when I am in St Augustine. My favorite is the Milk Chocolate and dark chocolate paws. The pralines are great too. Ms Catherine was very friendly & offered me a sample of the pralines. I have also been to their other store in the mall in Savannah, Ga. The pecans that they use are always so fresh. My husband loves the pralines from this shop, so it's one we often visit when in the old city. We only realized recently on a trip to Savannah that this shop was a small version of the ones there. The sweet smell of candies hits you as soon as you walk through the door of this shop. Unfortunately, the place seems rather cluttered and dirty. Some of the candy trays in the cases were half full so you could see the bottom of the tray and it did not look like it had been cleaned for some time. I think the size of the shop compounds the cluttered and unclean feeling as well. I would recommend trying one of the other candy shops in town as an alternative. read more

For me, Savannah Sweets is the premier candy shop in Saint Augustine. Their pralines are next level and I usually get one daily when I'm there. This visit was no different, you won't see a picture because it was eaten too quickly. My apologies. Their use of nuts, their chocolates, their fresh preparation never fails. You can't go wrong with anything you get, and they are always creating new experiences. Pictured with this review is the genius idea to utilize Fruity Pebbles in a Rice Krispy treat. That's my next purchase. Amazing idea. The staff is always courteous and friendly. It's also nice to see candy being made fresh as part of the decor. Every time someone visits us we always go to St Augustine. Savannah Sweets has always been so good! The pralines are the main reason we go! They are usually delicious. I would go buy a few pounds and ship to my son overseas while in the military. But, About 3 weeks ago we were there, bought a pound and a half of pralines. So, so disappointed. They were hard, not fresh. Terrible!!! Usually they are so soft, melt in your mouth. These were not. When we go again, I will ask for a sample before buying. Savannah Sweets offers nearly any type of fudge and candy related items that your heart may desire. You can sample one fudge and one praline on each visit. I do not eat fudge that much so I was treating myself. They had a fudge with coconut that was very tasty. I've never seen anything like it. The associate explained they have seasonal fudges. He was nice and had patience as I wasn't sure which praline I wanted to sample. The praline was my not my favorite, but I think that's because of the flavor I tried. And the fudge was not as soft as I have had in the past but the flavor was still great. I would recommend this spot to fulfill your sweet tooth needs. read more

Stop in here if you have a sweet tooth or if you're looking for gifts for someone who does! The smell of delicious candy will draw you in and the sight of all the freshly made treats will have you smiling like a kid. We got a few of the turtles -- milk chocolate with walnuts and dark chocolate with almonds. So tasty! Our favorite of the day was the praline! The smell coming from the building really brought me off St. George Street. Perhaps the best pralines I have ever come across... silky smooth texture, crunchy pecans and a nice buttery overtone. The pecan logs were a disappointment... marshmallow centers are a no-no when making pecan puffs. This is exactly how candy shops should be! They were passing out free samples on the street, and though we didn't take one, it gave us incentive to step in and check it out. The firs thing you notice about this place is the aroma of candies being made....it smells so rich and lovely of melted butter and sugars! While they have a big prep station, we didn't see any being made by hand, just working away in the machines. The displays were great and full of items made in shop, and the walls were lined with some grab and go gift bags of candy and also of other commercially made harder to find sweets. If you need anymore validation of this place, I spent $30 on treats for presents. It's that nice of a shop! read more

We've had pralines in New Orleans and Savannah and couldn't get enough but the pralines here are just different....like in a bad way. We won't be returning during our vacation in Florida. read more

I'm probably not the most qualified to be rating confectioner shops but I know what I like, and this is one of those things that I like. It astonished me how expensive shop-made sweets can be but I figured that I was probably going to be getting products of high quality. I was definitely right when it came to this aspect, especially with the pralines. This decadence was absolutely wonderful and made me realize how a lot of things in life come at a high price. For around $2.50 per praline, they were not cheap but definitely worth it. The rest of the store had a wonderful selection, with fudge, chocolates, apples, pralines, brittle, truffles, and more. Everything seemed great but sadly, it was not possible to try everything. It wasn't even the fact that my stomach wouldn't be able to take it. I just wish I could say the same about my credit card because this was the only thing stopping me. I also liked the fact that you can see everything being made in the shop. And after asking the cashier how much of the products were made in the shop, I was pleasantly surprised with his answer at around 97%. I wish there were one of these shops in Miami, but its good that there isn't, or I would go broke. read more

Was really excited to try the TOFFEE STICK. Paid $5.00 and expected chocolate covered TOFFEE on a stick. What I got was chocolate covered marshmellow with the tiny amount of toffee sprinkled on the outside. When I went back in to express my disappointment the 2 young ladies were rude and unapologetic and didn't know how to turn a lemon into lemonade. Needless to say I'm local and will be sending people to Whetsones or Kirwins rather than this bate and switch place. read more

Amazing caramel apples!! My gf has been craving a caramel apple since we went to Disney this past October. We forgot to buy one when we left and has been wanting one since then. We found this shop walking around St. Augustine and of course had to purchase one. She got a caramel apple with sprinkles. When we got back to the hotel, she dug in and loved it! This is a really cool shop that we had high expectations for, but unfortunately the quality of our purchases was a really mixed bag. The fudge and Rice Krispies were excellent, but the $9 bag of caramel popcorn that we bought was some of the stalest I've ever had. There was no crunch whatsoever! This is a great candy shop! They have a wonderful variety, the customer service is exceptional, the candy that the 5 of us tried was amazing! My daughter and I love cheese popcorn, so I bought 3 bags. We tried it that evening, it was stale. Since we were close by, and I had spent $22.00 on it, I decided to try returning it. The woman that was there that morning, possibly the manager or owner could not have been more apologetic! She said that it was hard to store due to humidity in Florida. She profusely apologized, could not have been sweeter, returned my money, and to top it off - she also gave me a box of pralines for my trouble!!! I tried to pay because I was going to buy some more anyway, she was not having it! The popcorn issue is understandable here in the summer. My experience with Online Ordering of the Free Pralines plus shipping was disappointing. The pralines apparently crystallized...white on top, crumbling with rubbery pecans. I contacted the company and they replied that they would investigate. No word after contact. The pralines could have been left over from the holidays. Not worth shipping costs. read more
