We grabbed half and half pizza to go, opting for Clam Casino Pizza & Meat Lovers Pizza. I really liked the clam one with white sauce, it was well proportioned, with a fairly thin crust, like pasta or chowder flavors on a pizza. This is a great every day pizza joint. It's very convenient to come in and just let your eyes decide what slice you're in the mood for. The slices were cut pretty large so I further cut them in half since 1.5 slices was my max. We also got meatballs and garlic knots which I highly recommend too! Great to dip your crusts in the leftover marinara sauce from the meatballs! read more

I placed a to-go order for the lasagna and garlic knots. It took over 30 min because of the lasagna and they never bothered to tell me when it was ready. Who knows how long it sat under the heat lamp. I think they pre-made the lasagna, froze it, and then heated it up. They didn't even bother to brown the cheese on top, it was still in the freezer packaging... The garlic knots didn't have enough garlic and seemed to have more oregano than anything else and some were slightly burnt. read more

Wow, how have I missed this place. I saw a review pop up on Yelp that showed a fantastic picture of an Italiano Sandwich. It was a review of Saverios pizza. Being a sandwich fan, I looked up where this was. Ok now I know why I didn't know about this place. It's stuffed way at the back of the Metro Mall off Benson Blvd. An area that you don't see from Benson, and the only place I have been in this strip mall area is Great Harvest Bread. So I made a B-line there for lunch and to try the Italiano Sandwich. I have to say it was fantastic. Loved the bread it's served on, was good size for $11.99 and with a Coke, it was very fairly priced. I will be back to this gem again. It was 12:30pm, moderately busy as they have an incredible variety (probably 10-12 different types) of "by the slice" pizza to grab and go, or sit for a quick lunch. read more

So I'm not a fan of the food in Alaska in general. There's not a go to, must have, favorite. Until now!! The pizza is absolutely as good as it looks in photos. Better. Closest to a NY style pizza here. Also tried the manicotti. That's the only reason they didn't get 5 stars. It good but the noodles are pretty thick and a little chewy. Not awful but not 5 stars. Ordered 2 slices of pizza and a sandwich (sausage &peppers) to go. The service was very good. No complaint there. For the food, however, I expected a "wow!" but got a "well?" instead. The slices were dry and lacked any flavor. The panini was okay but I would not order it again. I worked in a wonderful Italian restaurant, in San Diego, as a kid - and that place has been the standard I've used at other Italian restaurants ever since. We made our bread, pasta, pizza dough, sauce, sausage, meatballs and so much more each and every day. I really wanted to give a higher rating but I honestly cannot. I think my search is over--I found my favorite pizza in Anchorage. I originally saw this place when going to Wild Scoops. Saverio is my grandfather's name so it caught my attention. Once I came on yelp to read what others had to say I knew it was a must visit. Full disclosure, I am not a big fan of California/west coast style pizza so I am not on the Moose's Tooth bandwagon. California style is fine once in a while, but it's not my idea of true pizza. With California style the focus is on the toppings, and crazy flavor combinations. If you love California style pizza this place probably isn't going to be your favorite, but it's worth trying. Saverio's is going to offer you a way more traditional take on pizza. Pizza is much more simplistic than the crazy toppings, and the focus is always on the crust and the sauce. This is NY style pizza, which isn't true Neapolitan style, but definitely pays homage. Neapolitan style pizza (the original pizza) has a very specific criteria, which includes attending academy in Naples. I don't know if we will ever get true Neapolitan style here in Anchorage (though I'll let you know if my dream of Italian culinary school ever pans out). We ordered the bruschetta and the prosciutto e pomodori pizza. They have 18" pizza, which I'm a big fan of as my husband and I can share and have a few pieces left over. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food we ordered. They also now serve beer & wine which is a great touch. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and orderly. Service was friendly and helpful. I believe the two people that assisted us were the owners. The bruschetta was a good start to our meal. It was a decent sized portion and loaded with fresh tomatoes and garlic. The bread was very tasty; not sure if they make that in house as well, but it seemed like it. Flavors melded well. Everything about this pizza was done very well. The crust was hand tossed, and cooked perfectly even. It was never soggy even under the toppings, and the crust was a nice golden brown. The crust was crispy on the outside, and soft and pillowy on the inside. The sauce was good, there were some nice tomato chunks, and a good deal of garlic to round out the flavors. There was a nice layer of cheese (but not too much cheese), and slices of prosciutto were evenly distribute. The flavors were very good. Pizza is one of my favorite foods, and being Italian from Chicago I've eaten a lot of it in my lifetime. Saverio's is a Godsend to Anchorage, but could hold its own in Chicago & New York. To me, this is the 2nd-best pizza in Anchorage. (Moose's Tooth is #1 for me) Depending on the style of pizza you like, it could easily be your #1! This is the only pizzeria in Anchorage doing NY-style pizza. (at least that I know of) The pizza is delightfully floppy, you'll have to fold it over to fit it in your mouth whole. The consistency of the cheese, the amount and flavor of the sauce, is just perfect. They also have much thicker, "stuffed" pizza. I got a slice of this, but it wasn't really my style. This is a great place if, like me, you don't have friends...or time...and you just want to get 2-3 slices quickly and go. They always have a good selection of pizza-by-the-slice. We ordered an 18" Saverio's Special pizza and it was definitely special. The crust is thin and flimsy but this isn't a bad thing when that's the exact pizza you're looking for. We seriously looked at the pictures of all the local pizza places to find a thin Brooklyn type of pizza and the crust on this one was perfect for the craving. This is the best hidden gem in town. The portions are massive and the price is way lower compared to most of Anchorage. Mom and pop shop hidden next to the Trek bike store. Not a single ounce of sauce on the entire pie resulting in very bland taste, overall flavor was not present. Reading the reviews maybe I just got the worst version of their pizza. A must try! Used to work close and heard coworkers rave as a lunch favorite but never made it to try slices. Rookie error. Went last night for the first time, and we loved it! We went with an order of garlic knots, and a Bianca (white) pizza (not Binaca, that would be horrible). Very basic, and very, very good. This is not a pizza where the crust gets tossed. Saverio's is the real deal, authentic Italian/Mediterranean style food dishes and pizza by the whole, and slice. Move over ALL AK pizza places!!!!! THIS is the best place to go when you're craving some delicious pizza. Go for a slice or an entire pizza (Warning: going for just one slice, know you'll go again VERY soon). As you can see in my picture I didn't make it home before dove in lol I COULDN'T take the wonderful smell. The pie has a thin crust which I prefer and the margharita is my absolute favorite.
