I notified CalJump of this cancellation more than 72 hours in advance and they still have yet to process my refund despite written confirmation that they had. I have tried contacting their business numerous times via call and text and have either been ignored or told that the manager would check on it. If you do purchase their services, be sure to pay with credit in the case you need to cancel your event. They will reverse the charges for you if CalJump does not honor their refund policy.

I recently had Roger at Savory Roads Catering cater our small wedding reception. He does paella and tapas and even though I was a little worried about engaging a caterer in another city (the wedding was in LA while we live in the Pacific NW), sight unseen and taste untasted, it was terrific! Roger put together an enticing menu, and worked with us on food allergy issues (the bane of anyone trying to feed but not poison a social event these days)...He and his crew were at the Huffington Center by St.Sophia Cathedral on time and when we came out of the ceremony, there were appetizers to greet the guests. He makes the paellas on site, and guest really enjoyed learning about it and watching him cook. Good for when conversation lags or you are standing next to someone you don't know and need a conversation starter. His paellas are chock full of every ingredient -- no worries about people feeling they're only getting mostly rice! We had a small veggie paella for the veggie-type people, and it was really good! You don't miss the seafood and meat at all. The large paella had chicken, chorizo, fish and calamari (the groom and a few others are allergic to shellfish, so wouldn't that be a bad way to start your marriage, poisoning the groom..lol.), and also all kinds of veggies. Seasoned beautifully, with full and excellent saffron flavor. As part of our appetizers and other sides, we had the roasted veggies, and they were particularly tasty. Everybody really loved the food. Maybe they were just saying that, but the wedding guests were mostly family and you know family doesn't mince words! The only glitch I can report is that the larger paella took a little longer to do, because it was being cooked outside and the wind was blowing the flame around. But everybody was noshing on the appetizers and hobnobbing, so nobody but the mothers-in-law noticed, and well, it is their job to notice, isn't it? My family recently planned a celebratory birthday dinner for me and part of the surprise was having Roger of Savory Foods Catering on hand to prepare a seafood and chicken paellas while we all celebrated a beautiful evening al fresco. Last summer, I had the pleasure of eating chicken paella in beautiful Valencia, Spain (an authentic cuisine of Spain experience) but I am not exaggerating when I say that Roger's paella (both seafood & chicken) were excellent and equally if not better than the authentic paella I ate in Spain! I am partial to the seafood paella as it was savory, chock full of yummy shrimp, mussels, etc. What a treat! The Paella Project... basically, it is a travelling band of paella cooks that cater to various…read moreevents and functions with frequent visits to Atwater Village and Silverlake. I guess the best way to explain them is to imagine a food truck without the truck or a Top Chef challenge where onsite facilities must be used to cook food and voilà, you have the Paella Project. And speaking of Top Chef where challenges can be automatically lost based on time deadlines, the Paella Project didn't do it for the wife and I because they failed to meet their deadline when we visited them at 55 Degree Wine on April 10, 2012. You see, the paella was late by over 40 fucking minutes! Prior to the April 10th event, I spoke to the owner of the Paella Project and found out that tapas-style appetizers would be served between 6 and 7:30 and the paella would be ready by 7:30. Moreover, since the paella had sold out in previous events, I was told to come early. Therefore, trying to time for the paella, we showed up at around 6:40 knowing that the paella would be served about an hour later. So to pass the time we decided to order some drinks from 55 Degree Wine. I ordered a beer flight and my wife decided to go with a wine flight. While drinking we also ordered some tapas dishes offered by the Paella Project. We ordered a truffle tortilla de patatas with aji amarillo and we ordered chicken chicharrones with smoked pimenton and aleppo pepper. The truffle tortilla de patatas looked like a slice of pie. But when we dove into it, we realized that it was quite complex because it was layered with potato slices and other delicious ingredients that I could barely make out in the dark cellar of 55 Degree Wine. As for the chicken chicharrones, this cold dish reminded me of flaming hot cheetos. It really was the perfect snack to go with my beers. While the tapas dishes were good and came out immediately, the paella took forever. In fact, in addition to our respective beer and wine flights, I ordered another beer and the wife ordered another glass of wine. Then we finished our drinks and ended up ordering a bottle of wine. Yet, still we waited for the paella. As I mentioned earlier, the paella was supposed to be served at 7:30. However, it was not until well after 8:15 that we finally got to try their paella rustica. Perhaps it was a combination of putting the paella on too high a pedestal or perhaps it was because by the time I took a bite of the paella, I was buzzed and had a sore neck from the countless times of looking over my shoulder to see if the fucking paella was ready... regardless, the paella just didn't taste that great. Definitely 2 Stars since, "meh, I've experienced better." I guess you could say that when I finally got to taste the damn paella, I felt angry, sad, and confused, all at once. Angry that the paella took so long; Sad that it didn't taste that great; Confused because I was angry, sad, and insanely buzzed (mixing beer and wine is not a good idea, everrrr!). So at the end of the day, I felt let down and disappointed by the Paella Project. Not to mention, I had a fucking migraine. -------------------------- * Call me an old fucking fart, but I need my dinner before 8:15. ** Hungry and annoyed wife is not a sight to see. Thank goodness there was wine to dull her fury. -------------------------- Glossary: Paella: Spanish dish consisting of various proteins, rice, paprika, saffron and other spices that are boiled in broth until it is reduced into a risotto-like dish. Paella Rustica: Paella that consisted of chorizo and chicken Buzzed: Drinking on a near empty stomach and mixing beer and wine.

He was a great problem solver and helped us figure out the flow of the evening, and what would be best to serve in a smaller space. Amir is super responsive and kind, and that is not something you find easily in the catering world! He was a partner in our wedding more than a vendor! He provided constructive feedback and had opinions about how best to elevate our evening - a real collaborator and creative problem solver. The food was delicious and our guests are still raving about how much fun they had eating at our wedding. The Navaz team is fairly priced, excellent communicators, and overall easy to work with. They also come with recommended vendor partners as you build out or expand your event, which made things very turnkey and easier for us as party planners. Silver Spoons made everything happen, put the numerous gorgeous bouquets that people brought away in the perfect vases, which Scott or his team somehow found on their own without bothering me. They made everything look delicious despite the unbelievable heat, and then, on top of everything else - everything WAS delicious and delightful. The food was fantastic. And Scott Tessler and his team all talked to our guests in such a nice way. It was fun to have them there. We have used Silver Spoons intermittently over the years - for our daughter's wedding in Malibu in 2015, and now again, to introduce her baby to our friends and family. I'm beginning to think we should do this more often - the results from Scott and Silver Spoons are outstanding. After our event was over, exhausted, we came back to our kitchen, and discovered scads of perfectly wrapped leftovers - Steve and I simultaneously went hunting for that incredible mustard - oh, no, did they leave us some? Yes! You left us a significant amount, nicely wrapped up. And you cleaned up the kitchen beautifully! Even mopped! Everything was left in perfect order. I've been enjoying all the leftovers now for a few days. We have already given Silver Spoons' contact information to one guest at the party, who was very impressed with its work. Many of our guests were already familiar with Silver Spoons from their experiences at University Synagogue (now part of Wilshire Boulevard Temple). The food, the presentation, interaction with guests, following of dietary/allergy restrictions - all perfect. We had magnificent vegetables for the vegans, gluten-free dishes of all kinds that were superb, regular dishes that were wonderful - the food was great. And the service is exceptional. Our baby grandson had a grand debut in the Millers' back yard, and Silver Spoons Catering was a big part of that. Silver Spoons did a wonderful job, and we thank them for it.
