Right in Kenton, a solid Thai spot where I see a lot of carryout happening. I got food to go once before, but sat down recently. It was only one staff member, but he made it all happen fast. The space is bright and open. We split egg rolls, which were okay. The prawn dumplings were the standout - amazing with the onions and sauce. I'll order differently next time. I had: --fish sauce wings--served hot and crispy but just meh for me. The honeyed jalapeño gave it depth and zing. The jalapeño outshone the smallish wings --side of steamed veggies--outstanding and very fresh broccoli, carrots and green beans. --peanut sauce for the veggies--again, outstanding. Service was thoughtful and the atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable. I'm a bit torn here but will default to 4 stars. I'll be back to try pad Thai and other more complex dishes. I really don't like to leave bad reviews, but I was really underwhelmed with my take out here. Have been looking for a new Thai spot in north Portland. Nothing has filled the spot of the Thai cart at Arbor Lodge brewing. I got the pad kee maw with chicken. Got home and it was hot and had the right amount of spice. However, there wasn't much chicken in the order and the noodles were just a big wadded up ball with random veggies sprinkled in. Not going back. It's too much to spend $16 or $17 on one meal and not get your money's worth. Best of luck to them. read more

Quality food and service. We asked to increase spice level to medium on all of our dishes and were not disappointed.

Terrible service. The pad Thai is terrible. The noodles are over cooked and drowned in sauce. When I called to tell them the food was bad and asked to just replace it with rice, they told me they don't do that. So apparently their pad Thai is just bad and their policy is "if you don't like it, too bad." Don't waste your money. read more

We had pad kee now and a ground meat with fried egg on rice for lunch. It was good when the place was a little quiet on Sunday afternoon. We were able to share meals and chatted with each other. The staff came to check on us and added some water for us. It's good dining experience here. read more

My food arrived quickly and you could tell the produce and meat was very fresh. The bathrooms were very clean aand user friendly. I got the chicken chefs special. Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. Seated right away, nice clean space. We ordered the shrimp rolls (7/10) chicken wings (7/10) pad see ew (9/10) and chicken mussamun curry (8/10). The curry was really good, I wish there was more broth and maybe a little thicker. There was LOTS of chicken, and nicely cooked, which I appreciate that they didn't skimp! We've eaten here twice now, once in house, once with takeaway. The place is nice, understated, comfortable. Great chairs! We were greeted upon entry, and the service was brisk, friendly, and efficient. On the first visit, I had Hot Basil Crispy Pork, and it was excellent. A large portion of crispy pork belly, with basil, green beans, and a fried egg. The sauce was to die for! My True Love had Mushroom Kaprao, which she loved. Multiple varieties of mushrooms with mixed veggies, an egg, and various other, to me, unidentifiable things. She had nothing but praise for it, although they forgot her side of rice. Second time was carry out, and I wish I could speak more highly of it. We had Pad Thai and mixed veggies with chicken. The veggies were great, the chicken was great, the sauce was great. Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was terrible. Tasteless tofu, gloppy noodles.... I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Won't order that again! Anyway, I do highly recommend this place. I do hope the Pad Thai experience was a fluke. We will be going back... to dine in on non-noodle dishes!! read more

We came here for an anniversary lunch. I had the Tom Kay soup which was amazing- full of fresh veggies, herbs and out of this world. My husband had the red curry which loved as well. Again, fresh veggies, cherry tomatoes in both dishes. The Thai iced tea has a lovely floral quality. Service was prompt and we were well taken care of. read more

Pad kee mao noodles were overcooked and stuck together, and the dish itself was sweet and lacking the traditional taste you get from dark soy sauce/oyster sauce/fish sauce combo. Sauce was sparse on massuman curry which was a shame, as the chicken and veggies were well cooked. Fried rice was was bland and needed seasoning. Disappointed. read more

We loved everything about this restaurant. It was clean, bright, and tastefully decorated. The staff were friendly and gracious. We ordered the mushrooms larb salad and avocado curry. Avocado?! Yes! Both dishes were excellent. The dressing for the larb was light and refreshing; a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and a little bit of heat. The vegetables in the curry were cooked perfectly and the sauce was outstanding. The pieces of avocado added a lovely creaminess and paired beautifully with the curry sauce. This was perfect lunch for two and reasonably priced. Happy to have found our favorite Thai restaurant in Portland. read more

Great option for Thai in N / NE Portland. Flavors are good and the people working there are kind and helpful.

Had a great lunch with a friend. I had the BBQ chicken and my friend had pad ke mao. Both were terrific. The salad that came with the chicken has little slices of kumquats, which was fun and unique, and the dressing was refreshing. The owner chatted with us for a bit and we tried the Thai tea crème brûlée, a recipe he has been working to perfect. It was a lovely post-lunch delight! read more

Great Thai food in the Kenton neighborhood. There are three Thai restaurants in the area, and Sawan is our new favorite by far. Standard Thai menu with some unique items. Server did not ask us about spice level. Not sure if that was just an oversight or it's on the customer to say something, but there was zero detectable chile heat in the items we were served. (If that is their default assumption of the American palate, I disagree.) Despite that, the food was delicious. My favorite was the Hunger Noodles. The Thai iced tea was on the sweet side for my taste, but the Thai iced coffee was perfect, and their version of mango sticky rice was really yummy.
