So, I was raised in an area with a very large concentration of Asian immigrants, so eating authentic Thai food was a huge part of my childhood. I'm never sure what I'll find in Central PA! I thought the Thai iced tea was far too sweet, and the pork egg roll lacked strong flavors, but the red curry was the best I've had. I will say, the takeout containers aren't great for curry and it all spilled on the way home. So tasty though! I should add the service was exceptional - warm, really friendly, from the host offering us a choice of seating to the timely nature of the food served. They don't do delivery but I'm so, so glad we decided to uber over to Sawasdee because it was the best fried rice I've had in a looong time. I got #43 on the menu - jasmine rice with Thai seasoning, egg, tomato, onion, and scallion with pork. I asked for broccoli as well to add some more vegetables. It was a huge portion and perfectly seasoned, not overly salty. Definitely didn't expect that Hershey would have the best Thai food around but do yourself a favor and check this place out! Thai food with some hits and misses. Of course after a few Days Inn Hershey we got fed up with all the bar and grills and all the steak we can handle. We wanted a little bit of change and being massive Thai food fans this place fit the bill. When it comes to tom yum soup I want my nose running after my second sip. Unfortunately that's not the case here. I'd say it was much more sour than sweet, yet ok tasting with a ton of mushrooms, seriously a ton of shrooms. Shrimp pad thai was a bit of a travesty. The noodles remind me of thin linguine with slightly larger than average shrimp that were a little overcooked but tasty. Pad Thai is a staple and I was rather disappointed with their gooey flavorless version to say the least. Also, definitely kind of shocked that they didn't have limes. Really, no limes? The Massimo with chicken was extremely soupy, more so like a big bowl of soup and to be perfectly honest with you filled with tons of half cut potatoes and mildly curry seasoned. I really would have liked more onions as well. I wasn't a huge fan of this dish. Now, the stir fry shrimp with snow peas was the one dish that really stood out for us. Quite flavorful and a little more complex than the other dishes with plenty of shrimp and snow peas. I would definitely give that a thumbs up. The portions are ample and the service was extremely friendly. They do charge $2 for thai tea, a big boo so, we passed. Clean with plenty of seats. There's accommodations for those gluten-free folks which is a plus and it's a BYOB another bonus. In an area that is devoid of the Asian persuasion it may be worth the try. But for a Thai lover like me, I'll pass by. read more

We had chicken pad Thai and another noodle dish. Both were good, only odd note was trying to tell if the other noodle dish and the sauce in it, which it did, but was just a more neutral color and blended in. Pricing was okay, and they noted on the door pricing had recently increased. read more

We picked up food from here twice during our three day stay at Hershey. Both times we got the Pad Thai and Green Curry. Both dishes were flavorful and delicious. And very generous portion sizes. We also tried the HoyJow appetizer which was fried bean curd skin stuffed with meat. It was also very tasty. Too bad I don't live closer to this restaurant because I definitely would be a regular. Both were very good, though the noodles were not as spicy as I was hoping. Service was also good. Given how busy it became while we were there, a little slowness was more than forgivable. Everything here is overpriced by about 2-3 dollars based on the quality of the food, and the portions. Noodle dishes and fried rice are adequate, but stay away from the entrees.. the appetizers are also way over priced for what you get..got take out, and was hugely disappointed with the food and prices. They are located outside of Hersey , more towards Palmyra but are sucking in that tourist ka-ching..they had great social distancing when I picked up my order, only to see the lady with a face mask under her nose, and the chef come out of the kitchen with no mask at all. I rarely leave a one-star review after a first visit or over one bad dish - cooking is challenging and everyone has off nights, bad luck, etc. But after my takeout experience at Sawasdee...I just have to. My dish was incredibly bland. Like, so bland that it was difficult to eat. After a few bites of texture but no flavor, I resorted to Sriracha sauce to make it palatable. But my partner's dish really solidified it. It, too, was bland, with the exception of a "sauce" that can only be described as sugar water. She, too, had to resort to Sriracha sauce to get through it. The Harrisburg area has some great Thai food - at times, right up there with what we had in Thailand. But Sawasdee doesn't appear to be one of them. Based on other reviews, maybe we just had terrible luck, but I can't imagine we'll ever be back to find out. read more

Being new to the area, I ordered chicken pad thai takeout from here, looking for a replacement for my go-to place back in Pittsburgh (which is Noodlehead, by the way). The food was fine, but wasn't anything special or worth writing home about. If anything, it was no where near hot enough as it came. The portion was quite large, so I was able to split it up into two separate meals, which is always a win. After sitting in the fridge for a while and with the addition of a lot more heat, it was a very adequate pad thai. I most likely will be going back, just knowing that I will have to do some at-home modifications. read more

Service seems a bit lacking. My two friends and I had ordered our food but were kept waiting for some time. I noticed that another group came in after us and had been neglected for a good 15 minutes or more before their order was taken. Well they got their food first. When one of us asked the server who had dropped off the other group's dishes, he claimed they were still cooking it and gave a bit of attitude a sour face. Swasdee is a gem on E Chocolate Ave. We went out on a late Saturday afternoon. I am guessing it wasn't very crowded since people are only beginning to know of this place. The restaurant has a relaxing vibe. The iced coffee with cream was yummy. The wait time for food seemed perfect. We ordered the pineapple fried rice with vegetables and the masaman curry with chicken. Portion size for each dish was generous and can be shared by 2. Wow I am so glad I tried this place - first the service was great- prompt and friendly - I started with the pork egg rolls with Thai pineapple sauce - delicious. I then had a small Tom yum seafood soup - very good with just enough spice - glad it wasn't overly spicy because of what was to come. I had the angry noodles with shrimp and I asked the waitress if is was spicy and she said medium- omg I am so very glad I didn't ask to make it more spicy because it was plenty - probably the spiciest medium I've ever had but it was absolutely fantastic and I managed to eat the whole dish. I'm just getting over a cold and this definitely cleared my sinuses. Servings were large and I will absolutely come back again. read more

The front of house was very nice and modern feeling, however there were things that needed some attention, one thing I noticed was crumbs on my table and on the booth seat. I was a bit disappointed in the quality of service I received, my fiancé and I were quite disappointed in the fact that our meal dragged out for well over an hour, it would have been faster to just get take out. It was also disappointing that they forgot to bring us one of the appetizers that we had ordered. They also lacked to ask us for any drink orders... water is fine I guess. Now to the food, as a chef; who has grown up with Thai cuisine, and Thai culture in my house. That was one of the most disappointing Pad Thais I have ever had , I didn't get much of any salty , sweet, sour, spicy or umami that you would typically expect when eating a pad Thai. My fiancé described her dish as mushy unfortunately as well. It was disappointing to see two noodle dishes take over an hour to prepare come out the way they did. I'm not sure if some of the other people who have reviewed have actually had authentic Thai food before , or if I just came in at a bad time or the cooks are adjusting to local flavor, but thank you for reassuring me that I can make it better at home. read more

My husband and I stopped by at Sawasdee for lunch the other week. The lunch menu is pretty comprehensive and reasonably priced. My husband's drunken noodles with combo meat was surprisingly good (I don't know what I expected but it was better than I expected). My go-to-dish, Tofu with veggies, did not disappoint. Even as a lunch special, the portion was generous enough for me to bring home some for later. Our server was friendly and attentive which makes the dining experience even better. We had green curry with tofu, Penang curry with tofu, drunken noodles with chicken, yum neu, and mixed vegetables with shrimp for 5 people and had plenty of leftovers. I was a little disappointed that the green curry is about 4x the size of Penang curry for the same price but it was so delicious that I'm not taking a star off. Was hungry for some spicy food and Central Pennsylvania really is the land of bland. Ordered up a green curry with shrimp and wanted Thai eggplant. The friendly staff informed me that they don't serve eggplant because people in the area don't like it. I realized that I never asked about the spice of the food because nothing is spicy around here. Went up to the staff and asked if the food is spicy by default and they said that they don't add any spice unless people ask. Who orders not spicy Thai food? I went with one bellow hottest and it was at the expected level of heat from other Thai restaurants. I think this is the only restaurant in Hershey where I would gladly eat again. read more
