Service was okay. There's plenty of seating, but parking is street parking only. We got the Thai tea, tom yum, satay, and coconut curry. The Thai tea was okay--not the best, but not the worst either. The tom yum felt like it was missing something. It just didn't taste that good, and the tomato pieces were cut a bit too big for my liking. The satay was pretty dry, and the only thing saving it was the sauce, which was really good. The coconut curry had a nice presentation and definitely had a strong coconut flavor, but it wasn't anything special. It was good enough, but not good enough that I'd order it again. Overall, this place was pretty mediocre. Nothing was terrible, but nothing really stood out either. I probably wouldn't come back.

I came back here a few times and the food quality has changed a bit. I had the pad Thai recently and it was a little lacking in spice and was a little too wet this time . My entire party was commenting on lack of spice notes. I think this is perfect for the average person who doesn't eat spice, but for the real spice lovers who can't eat unless it's spicy... be mindful that today you will be saving your livers and fighting the ulcers. The service was very kind and the restaurant wasn't too busy during lunch that day.

Long wait for us but the server was so busy and apologized. She also comped one drink for us to make up for it. The food was amazing and the portions are larger. Would definitely recommend! We'll be back for round 2!

On a weekday afternoon during lunchtime, Sawasdee is filled with groups of customers, with tables being about half full. I ordered their Pad See Ew with pork to-go, and my order was ready within 15 minutes. The portion size was reasonable, and all the ingredients tasted fresh. I wish that the noodles were slightly more flavorful, but there was a generous amount of pork and vegetables in the dish. This was a great comfort dish, and I'm excited to try some of their other dishes in the future, including their Pineapple Fried Rice.

Back again after a year, and it didn't disappoint! But it took me a long time to write this - totally forgot I started this review, and that was more than 2 weeks ago, LOL. We had fond memories of this restaurant, we made sure to plan it into our schedule to come back here on our trip up to Sac this year. This time, we were also prepared for large portions of food, and ended up planning all our leftovers so we could DRIVE the food back down to the LA area on our last day in Sac! Yup, we liked it THAT much! Everything was the same - comfy & classy atmosphere, and friendly and helpful staff. We noticed that a lot of people came in for takeout as well - so they must be well-known in the area! A few new things on the menu we totally enjoyed - Seafood Medley, Mango Cashew Chicken & Avocado Curry. The Seafood Medley is NOT small - and all the seafood is actually fried & crispy, including their basil! Despite taking it back home, and not staying crispy, it was still really, really tasty - rich flavor! I really enjoyed the Avocado Curry as well - it was a sweeter flavor of curry and it was nice and thick. LOVED the food! They asked us why we would bring their food back, especially when there was plenty of Thai food in the SoCal...we told them it was because it was delicious and worth the effort! :) I'm already looking forward to our next visit - Sac folk, keep supporting this family-owned small business!!

A must try when in the area. One of my go to Thai spots in Sacramento when I'm in town. Everything I've tried here is delish. I will say my recent visit I ordered cashew chicken and egg rolls. The serving size of the cashew chicken feels like it has decreased since my last visit YEARS ago. But still enough for one to have some left overs if portioned strategically. Flavor and medium spice level are always on point! Service is decent for to go order that I placed. Wait wasn't too long. Ambiance as you can see from the pictures is very quaint, nicely decorated dining room.

Sawasdee Thai Cuisine is located on J Street and 19th Street. They have a good-looking, casual dining area. But, it's street parking only so finding a spot can be challenging during busy times. My work team and I have our group lunches at Sawasdee and they do a great job of taking care of us. They set up our tables beforehand and our food comes out quickly (we place our orders in prior to arriving). We love how accommodating they are - no matter how large our group is. Their food is delicious. We tried a number of dishes but their pad thai is one of my favorites. They can, of course, adjust spice levels but I find that they generally season their items on the safe side (nothing overpowering).

Tried Sawasdee for the first time. It's located on the corner and has street parking only. Decent size restaurant with about 10ish tables that seat 2-4 people comfortably. Good service as well. Tried their: Appetizer sampler 9/10. Great selections of appetizers. Beef Drunken Noodles 9/10 Chicken eggplant dish 9/10 Everything was delicious and great portions.

Located in Midtown on J Street, we have passed by many times without stopping in. This time we did and are glad for having done so. The interior is simple and clean, with a large patio out front that (it appears) they open the entire front of the building to expose the interior to the exterior patio in the warmer months. Our server was super kind and efficient throughout our meal. We started with the fried potstickers (you can have them steamed or fried) then ordered the papaya salad - this was fresh and not so spicy, which was a nice change from the larb salads we would normally order. Next was drunken noodles with chicken, and the Panang curry with pork (always my benchmark for restaurants). Both of these dishes came out fresh and hot with lots of flavor and the proteins were fresh and tender. A very good meal indeed. I want to come back when they have the front patio open.

Friendly service, good food. Nice place to hang out with a big sized group. To be honest, the food is just ok, with everything being on the too-sweet side. Flavors weren't popping as far as Thai places go. Red curry Asked for mild and they said "it's Thai" lol. But it was mild with a nice kick. Laab pork Warm pork. Came with cabbage slices, but more like strips and wedges, and too small to make wraps out of. Flavors weren't popping, per se, but it was pretty good. Drunk noodles spicy it's ok. Much rather go with the curry or laab. Pork belly It's also ok. But much rather go with the curry or laab.

If I lived in Sacramento, this would be my go-to Thai spot--I'd be here every week! We ordered the Laotian papaya salad spicy, and it was perfect--bold spice, bright tang, and incredibly flavorful. The drunken noodles had the ideal smoky wok flavor with just the right level of heat. The pad Thai was just as impressive, with a great balance of sweetness, acidity, and savory depth. Their chili oil was a standout--rich, fragrant, and added so much depth to every dish. If you're looking for amazing Thai food in Sacramento, this is the place to go!

    Salmon pineapple curry...delicious

Well, already 2000+ reviews, so I guess I'm late to the party. But.....glad we eventually ended up here. My mom is visiting, and we met up with friends as well. We ordered a smorgasbord of Thai dishes. Two fried rice orders: crab and pineapple....both really good. I've has fried rice that tastes...."stale." My favorite was the salmon curry...the sauce had a small kick to it, and the salmon itself was cooked well. However, the spring rolls had lettuce in it that tasted....old. Not fresh at all. Another disappointment, was the fried snapper. We all were assuming....a FRIED snapper. It was veggies, soft and mushy breaded snapper, covered in sauce. Perhaps describe that dish a little more clearly on the menu. Essentially, some amazing dishes, but....there were some misses, too. The customer service was good....water always refilled, and we were allowed to eat family style and have a good time. I would recommend this restaurant, and would return, but maybe omit some dishes

    Food all gone.

The food was AMAZING and the customer service was excellent. The waitress was very humble and helpful. Our usual spot was Coconut on T, but that just changed. They killed it! I would recommend anyone looking for good Thai food, come here. They will not let you down.

No one even checked on us at all! We would have left but we had to pay upfront before we found out we had to be the waitress. Food wasn't even worth it (papaya was bland, pad Thai was average). Update: owner replied to this post. Everything that she stated wasn't true at all. I asked why we have to bring all the stuff in and she insisted that it's customary in Sacramento-- she did NOT asked us at all or did we asked, the owner said it immediately when we got seated that we HAD to bring it in. Yes I was upset AFTER we were told to bring the plates and everything in; we just came back from a vacation so we were in a good mood). Please don't make it seem that you were innocent as you also keep mentioning that is how things are in Sacramento and asked where I was even from. Also, we would've been more understanding if we didn't give us an attitude from the start and told us to get our own plate and bring it back in. A word of advice: please hire more staff since that would give some politeness to ALL customers. If you were so busy, how would you even have the time to explain why you wanted us to do waitress work. Please, you straight up and said we have to pick up our our plate of foods WITHOUT any of the understaff part. Again, owner keep trying to make a costumer experience in the wrong since honest review will hurt her business. Never in my Yelp reviews owner is so against a bad review --this just verifies how the owner is very defensive and keeps justifying without taking accountability of what actually happened (like how we even know she was working alone since we're outside). Also, please don't make any assumptions, they're not my husband or daughter (we never mentioned this and how inaccurate the owner perspective is). Further customers, please be aware when you leave bad reviews, expect the owner to persist that you're in the wrong (like she did with other previous bad reviews).

I'm not sure if management or chef has changed but their food is not what I remembered from years ago. We initially ordered their tofu pad thai and gai yang and immediately noticed how pricey their menu was. They have a wall of specials and I remember being shocked that their orange chicken was $24. I didn't mind paying more than what I was used to for my pad thai because I remembered their food was delicious but I was shocked when my pad thai came out. It was literally drowned in sauce and looked like it was a bowl of noodle soup. I was still optimistic hoping that it tasted better than it looked but it just tasted like sweet rice noodle soup. I was hesitant to bring it up to the waitress after two bites but so glad I did because I would have hated myself if I left without saying anything. The waitress was kind and offered to remake the dish. Instead, I opted for something else because I was afraid to be disappointed again. I ordered their tofu drunken noodles since I've gotten it here before and remember it being tasty. I confirmed that the drunken noodle was going to be a dry noodle dish and thankfully it was. It was good but not the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had their gai yang which is a marinated grilled chicken dish. He said it was pretty dry without the sauce on the side but the sweet chili sauce provided was pretty tasty. It's probably not worth $26 given the how dry the chicken was and he said he would never order it again. Overall, the customer service was great and portions were good. I had to deduct 3 stars from my previous review as the food quality has significantly gone down in my experience and doesn't justify the high menu prices in my opinion.

This had been a big reason I hadn't stopped in before... parking can be hard downtown but I've learned it's worth a walk even if you have to park a few street over. I was told the green Thai tea ($6) here is delicious so we both eagerly ordered one to enjoy during the meal. They were served in larger carafes and it's so satisfying to stir before taking your first sip. Definitely a great portion for the price. We wanted to explore the menu so we ordered a variety of items to share, knowing we'd be taking home leftovers. We ordered the Green Curry ($17), Lao Pho ($18), Pas See Ew ($17), and pineapple fried rice ($19). It was truly a feast. All the dishes had a generous portion size and our server made sure we had extra bowls and plates to share the pho and other dishes. My personal favorites were the pad see ew and Lao pho, the noodles in the pad see ew were delicious and I always like eating this as fresh as possible so the noodles are steaming hot. The pho broth had great flavor and I loved that this Lao version had tomatoes in it. The meat in the pho was also delicious. The pineapple fried rice is a customer favorite, but didn't blow me away. I tend to like savory and spicy more than sweet and savory, so this could by why. The Green Curry was a bit too thin for my preferences, I like a thick curry. It was tasty though and I'm glad I gave it a try. I would definitely stop in again to try more of the menu, and when we stopped in the Lao sausage was sold out, so I'd definitely order it next time if they have it.
