Service was okay. There's plenty of seating, but parking is street parking only. We got the Thai tea, tom yum, satay, and coconut curry. The Thai tea was okay--not the best, but not the worst either. The tom yum felt like it was missing something. It just didn't taste that good, and the tomato pieces were cut a bit too big for my liking. The satay was pretty dry, and the only thing saving it was the sauce, which was really good. The coconut curry had a nice presentation and definitely had a strong coconut flavor, but it wasn't anything special. It was good enough, but not good enough that I'd order it again. I came back here a few times and the food quality has changed a bit. I had the pad Thai recently and it was a little lacking in spice and was a little too wet this time . My entire party was commenting on lack of spice notes. I think this is perfect for the average person who doesn't eat spice, but for the real spice lovers who can't eat unless it's spicy... be mindful that today you will be saving your livers and fighting the ulcers. On a weekday afternoon during lunchtime, Sawasdee is filled with groups of customers, with tables being about half full. I ordered their Pad See Ew with pork to-go, and my order was ready within 15 minutes. The portion size was reasonable, and all the ingredients tasted fresh. I wish that the noodles were slightly more flavorful, but there was a generous amount of pork and vegetables in the dish. This was a great comfort dish, and I'm excited to try some of their other dishes in the future, including their Pineapple Fried Rice. read more

We had fond memories of this restaurant, we made sure to plan it into our schedule to come back here on our trip up to Sac this year. This time, we were also prepared for large portions of food, and ended up planning all our leftovers so we could DRIVE the food back down to the LA area on our last day in Sac! Yup, we liked it THAT much! Everything was the same - comfy & classy atmosphere, and friendly and helpful staff. We noticed that a lot of people came in for takeout as well - so they must be well-known in the area! A few new things on the menu we totally enjoyed - Seafood Medley, Mango Cashew Chicken & Avocado Curry. The Seafood Medley is NOT small - and all the seafood is actually fried & crispy, including their basil! Despite taking it back home, and not staying crispy, it was still really, really tasty - rich flavor! I really enjoyed the Avocado Curry as well - it was a sweeter flavor of curry and it was nice and thick. LOVED the food! A must try when in the area. One of my go to Thai spots in Sacramento when I'm in town. Everything I've tried here is delish. I will say my recent visit I ordered cashew chicken and egg rolls. The serving size of the cashew chicken feels like it has decreased since my last visit YEARS ago. But still enough for one to have some left overs if portioned strategically. Flavor and medium spice level are always on point! Service is decent for to go order that I placed. Wait wasn't too long. Sawasdee Thai Cuisine is located on J Street and 19th Street. They have a good-looking, casual dining area. But, it's street parking only so finding a spot can be challenging during busy times. My work team and I have our group lunches at Sawasdee and they do a great job of taking care of us. They set up our tables beforehand and our food comes out quickly (we place our orders in prior to arriving). We love how accommodating they are - no matter how large our group is. Their food is delicious. We tried a number of dishes but their pad thai is one of my favorites. They can, of course, adjust spice levels but I find that they generally season their items on the safe side (nothing overpowering). read more

Located in Midtown on J Street, we have passed by many times without stopping in. This time we did and are glad for having done so. The interior is simple and clean, with a large patio out front that (it appears) they open the entire front of the building to expose the interior to the exterior patio in the warmer months. Our server was super kind and efficient throughout our meal. We started with the fried potstickers (you can have them steamed or fried) then ordered the papaya salad - this was fresh and not so spicy, which was a nice change from the larb salads we would normally order. Next was drunken noodles with chicken, and the Panang curry with pork (always my benchmark for restaurants). If I lived in Sacramento, this would be my go-to Thai spot--I'd be here every week! We ordered the Laotian papaya salad spicy, and it was perfect--bold spice, bright tang, and incredibly flavorful. The drunken noodles had the ideal smoky wok flavor with just the right level of heat. The pad Thai was just as impressive, with a great balance of sweetness, acidity, and savory depth. Well, already 2000+ reviews, so I guess I'm late to the party. But.....glad we eventually ended up here. My mom is visiting, and we met up with friends as well. We ordered a smorgasbord of Thai dishes. Two fried rice orders: crab and pineapple....both really good. I've has fried rice that tastes...."stale." My favorite was the salmon curry...the sauce had a small kick to it, and the salmon itself was cooked well. However, the spring rolls had lettuce in it that tasted....old. Not fresh at all. Another disappointment, was the fried snapper. We all were assuming....a FRIED snapper. It was veggies, soft and mushy breaded snapper, covered in sauce. Perhaps describe that dish a little more clearly on the menu. Essentially, some amazing dishes, but....there were some misses, too. The customer service was good....water always refilled, and we were allowed to eat family style and have a good time. Came into Sawasdee's for the first time earlier this week. A group of friends of mine decidedly to have dinner here after Jui Jitsu and arrived about 20 to 9pm as a party of 12. The staff welcomed us and noted they closed at 9:30, so we weren't sure at first if we could be seated. But the staff quickly got things together and sat us after combining several tables of 4. We all looked over the menus for a few minutes and got water and Thai teas are we ready our orders. Since there was a larger number of us and my group likes to eat family style, and be able to try various dishes. We went ahead and order the following dishes for our whole group: Appetizers: Gyoza Main Courses: Crab Pad Thai Thai Steak Thai Coconut Curry Crab Fried rice (hot) Menu drinks: Thai Tea Overall: Great food, and great prices. Staff were friendly and very attentive, and had our dishes to us pretty quickly. I also appreciate them accommodating us still at the time we arrived, but wished it came off more hospitably. Casual Thai spot in Midtown open fairly late -- it was pretty quiet on a Friday night so we were seated immediately. I got the crab pad thai and it was a huge portion for about $22. It fed me for 3 meals! (And it still tasted good on the third day.) I wish they added more crab meat since the portion felt small, but I liked that they added tofu for extra protein. No line ~ we were sat down right away on a Friday night, although street parking has a fee and not a lot available, the food came out right away and the shrimp pad Thai is delicious and not dry. Perfect choices as it turned out. Off top the best drunken noodles and Thai crab fried rice I've had. They were generous with the amount of shrimp and crab. The food is made to order so it's hot and fresh...(like your mom). The drunken noodles had the perfect amount of sauce so it was easy to separate, but not drowning in sauce. The broccoli was cooked perfectly as well. Not overcooked so it wasn't limp and soggy. It had a nice crunch to it still. We didn't want anything too heavy, but the portions fed 3 adults with some rice left to eat later. They gave us paper plates and utensils since we said we would be sharing/eating in the car. Real talk, we wanted to stop back here on our way home, but unfortunately time wasn't on our side. I will be recommending Sawasdee to anyone passing through Sacramento. Tried Sawasdee for the first time this past Friday for a late lunch/early dinner. We were greeted immediately and seated. We ordered a couple of items. My boyfriend has been here before and he wanted me to try the Kai Soi Gai. We got it with pork. We also got the chicken yellow curry and crab fried rice. We were the only ones dining in at the time, so the food came out really quick. The Khao "Kao" Soi Gaiwas good! Perfect amount of sweetness from the curry and loved all the pickled veggies in the dish. It is a nice portion too. The crab fried rice was decent. I thought it could have used some more spice since it was on the plain side. It's not a big deal, but the dish only had two slices of tomatoes when that's one of the ingredients in the fried rice. The yellow curry was what I actually was craving. No complaints about the taste as it met all the requirements. My only thing is maybe the portion size of it? I thought it was on the smaller side. Usually at places I have a good amount of leftover curry, but didn't really have that here. Overall, I think this is a great place to have Thai food and the atmosphere is very nice and welcoming. There are plenty of tables inside, but no one else since it was so late, so we were seated and ordered quickly. We got the vegetable fresh spring rolls, green curry with tofu, pad see ew, fried rice, and mango sticky rice. The spring rolls were super fresh and it came with two sauces, which were both tasty! The pad see ew and fried rice were also delicious! The noodles and rice weren't mushy and there was a good amount of vegetables and protein in both. The green curry was tasty, but if you are sensitive to spice don't get it. It was a little spicier than I thought it'd be. For dessert we got the mango sticky rice. What a pleasant surprise I stumbled on while in beautiful downtown Sacramento. So, I came across Sawasdee Thai Cuisine since it was within walking distance from my hotel and I was craving Thai food for dinner. Thanks to all the great Yelp reviews I ended up choosing this restaurant over any others and I'm glad I did! Atmosphere, I would say this is probably one of the cutest little Thai restaurants I've been to. There are plenty of inside tables and a cute outdoor patio for seating during the summertime. My deep-fried fish was delicious and thanks to the waitress recommending the dish. If you're looking for Americanized Thai food, this place might be for you -- but it wasn't for me. I was disappointed and felt misled by the 2K+ reviews. The Thai tea was probably the worst I've ever had -- and that's usually a hard drink to mess up. Another red flag: they don't even offer chopsticks unless you specifically ask, which already hints at a lack of authenticity. We tried the Thai crab fried rice, pineapple fried rice, Thai steak, drunken noodles, calamari, butterfly shrimp, chicken wings, and pork belly. Unfortunately, none of the dishes stood out. Decided that I would try the new dish, the Avocado Green Curry, and my partner would get a spin on a classic, the Crab Pad Thai. We started with the calamari which was fairly bland but the tangy sauce made up for lack of flavor in the batter. Pieces of calamari felt fresh and were more like "fries" so more breading to meat ratio, which is not my preference. The Avocado Green Curry was quite superb but spicy, even when indicating mild spice please :) For the non adventurous eater that I am, I found the spice to be able to be cut nicely with the warm avocados in the dish and the generous side of rice. The portion was huge and could nicely be shared between two people. Boyfriend wanted his Crab Pad Thai spicy and they sure brought the heat. Very tasty but light on crab meat as scrambled eggs supplemented the main protein. Overall, nothing spectacular about the pad thai but everything did feel fresh.
