However, even with mild spice, it was too spicy for my coworker so if you can't handle spice levels that well, definitely don't let the mild space level fool you and just order no spice. I really enjoyed my to-go meal from Thai canteen. Everything tasted super flavorful and fresh. I highly recommend pairing your meal with their Thai tea. I would say that for someone who just moved to midtown, this is a pretty reliable spot to grab Thai food. I specifically had their drunken noodles and I thoroughly enjoyed them. I was so hyped to take my bestie who visited from San Diego to Thai Canteen because from my memories, this was one of the best Thai foods I ever had in Sacto area a while ago. The restaurant has indoor, outdoor tables, and a mini bar section. You order your food at the counter, pay for it, then grab a number and place it on your table. Food arrived pretty quickly and the service we received was alright. We ordered Thai Tea, Palm Juice, Pad See Ew with Beef, and Pad Thai with Chicken, all the staple food people usually order at any Thai place. The price is decent, portion is quite large, we ended up need to pack some leftover home. But for the taste, I would say it was pretty mid, not as good as I remembered. Pad Thai taste was just average, the noodle actually a little bit too soggy for my taste, and it had a very strong tomato/ketchup flavor instead of tamarind. Pad See Ew lacked that wok smoke flavor and was quite salty, but the vegetables still had a crunchy texture, and beef was tender. Thai Tea was alright, I wished it could be a little bit more creamier but the Palm Juice was definitely a unique and refreshing drink, think of it like coconut juice but more dense and have a nice fragant of natural sugar. We came to Thai Canteen on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy, which was a nice surprise. You order at the register and serve yourself water, and then they bring the food out to your table. I got the Pad Gra Prow. The flavor was really good and had a nice kick, but there were definitely more veggies than chicken, which was kind of a bummer. My friend ordered the red curry. It was on the sweeter side and served in a small bowl with rice on the side. Overall, we really liked the vibe and would definitely come back to try other items on the menu. I loved that it was open late! Was attending a convention on Easter weekend and we were looking for a spot to eat after a late meeting. I love Thai Canteen so much! Came here with a group of my coworkers for my belated birthday lunch. I always look forward to coming here because the food is absolutely delicious. Came here for some late night eats to wrap up date night and per usual this place did not disappoint. We ordered reverse happy hour pad Thai and bbq chicken skewers. No alcohol but we both got Thai tea; I went with regular and Mr Man opted for lemon. Kind of jealous of his drink. Both were delicious and glad we opted for the large. Not the best Pad Kee Mao I've had, but the noodles were cooked perfectly, and it had a decent flavor. The Tom Kha I'm soup was just OK The papaya salad was good not the best I've ever had The satay chicken was OK. The peanut sauce was very boring. This is a restaurant that you would come when you want to just walk up and order and not have to split a bell with a bunch of people doesn't have table order service but they do deliver your meal to your table after they give you a number. It's self serve water, ice and they do have lemons for the water. This restaurant is located on the super busy 16th St. three lane to get downtown one way road which is very hard to park and if you do get a parking spot it's a busy street. One good thing about this restaurant compared to other Thai restaurants is that it's opened in between lunch and dinner. Most of them seem to close by 3 PM and don't open until 4:30 or 5 PM so this is one of the few that you can hit up anytime a day. read more

Me and a friend came here after the CARDI B concert at Golden one center. We initially chose this place because it was super late and who doesn't Love Thai Food! I got the Papaya Salad and pork skewers and everything was so good. The place was clean, customer service was good and I definitely will be coming back. I love their late night hours. I love TC! This is my favorite place to go to before you go out, and even after the night ends. Their food goes great with the beers and soju/sakes. The cashiers are always pretty kind as well, they all have great personalities. It can get pretty packed in here, and it can get loud too when it's busy. But they got a good amount of seats, especially if you're a bigger party, they have a big table in the middle of their restaurant. I always love getting their thai tea soju shots. It's so delicious, you don't even need chaser. I tried their pork skewers with sticky rice (from their happy hour menu) and the pork was so tender and juicy! I look for refreshing dishes when we have warmer weather during this time of year and the steak salad at Thai Canteen is one of my favorite late spring/early summer dishes. Everything about it screams spring/summer. It's salty, aromatic, vinegary. There's even a spicy kick, but I highly recommend adding a few of their homemade sauces, such as the fish sauce with Thai chili on top for an even spicier bite. The steak is cooked well. Not chewy, but not super firm. Perfectly tender and just seasoned to absolute perfection but for me it's the spices and dressing for this salad is what makes this a must try dish. There's a ton of flavor. The salt and vinegar combination are what keeps me coming back for more. Another positive about this dish is that it won't leave you feeling bloated or heavy but at the same time it's filling. It's the best of both worlds. It was enjoyable as a whole. 2) Unfortunately, the Thai Fried rice was bland and flavorless. It desperately needed help with flavor. The rice also seemed like it was not "fried" either. Overall, the entire dish was dissatisfying and underwhelming. It fell below expectations and as a result, I didn't consume it. I usually try to avoid giving negative reviews, but this experience was poor enough that I felt the need to share, and honestly, I'm being generous with 3 stars. We ordered three dishes through Grubhub: the Pad Si Ew, Jay's Special, and the Spicy Wings. "Jay's Special", This was the only solid dish of the night. It was flavorful, rich, and very tasty; the eggplant worked well here. Pad Si Ew, This was perhaps the worst I've ever had. It was completely bland with insufficient sauce, and the beef was rubbery and barely edible. While the broccoli was okay, the dish overall was so bad that we couldn't get past the first few bites. Spicy Wings - These were a disaster. They had a "funky" smell that didn't come from the spices, it smelled like something was actually wrong with the meat. They weren't spicy at all, and to be honest, I was worried about whether they were even sanitary. Completely inedible. I recommend that the owners of this place will take a close look at their kitchen and their recipes because something is not clicking over there. read more

It is still delicious though, and the noodles aren't goopy. 2 meals worth for me. The pad med mamuang (breaded protein with cashews, onions, dried chilies) rice plate is also awesome. I haven't seen anywhere else with pad med mamuang. The rice plates' pricing sometimes feel a little silly because they give you rice and the actual dish in the same container that, say, Thai Time would give you packed full of the actual dish, with a separate container of rice on the side for the same price. read more

It has a good amount of kick to it and the portion is generous. I like this place because they have a happy hour for food and drinks later in the night. The yellow curry is a little watery, but good. I enjoyed mango sticky rice, the rice was a good texture. The mango was fresh. I didn't really like the green thai tea drink, but that is probably preference. I prefer the regular thai tea. They had a late night happy hour but none of the dishes on that menu jumped out at me so I went with a classic Pad See Ew with beef. It was fresh and hot though a little bland compared to usual but that was easily fixed after asking for the hot chili oil.
