There was a point where I was ordering from these guys once a week or so. They're food is pretty tasty, especially the Pineapple curry and Golden Triangle appetizers. The Pad Thai could use more egg, but is super yummy as well. My husband usually gets a soup or rice dish and hasn't been let down yet. Worst. Experience. Ever. I ordered food vegetarian, but it arrives reaking of fish sauce. I ordered and paid for extra peanut sauce and dried chiles, they didn't come. And the best part? It was delivered to a hotel and they didn't give me any silverware. When's the last time you stayed at a hotel and they provided silverware in the room? The decor is pretty typical for a Thai restaurant, but the food was very authentic and tasty. The table ordered Tom Yum w/ Shrimp Soup as an appetizer. This soup is a must-try! It was slightly sweeter than other Tom Yum's I've tasted and had a good balance between spicy and sour. I ordered the Pad Thai w/ Tofu. The tofu had a very slight crisp. The noodles were slightly al dente (what's the Asian term for al dente??). All in all, perfect! Well, I had a review on Yelp endorsing Sawasdee Thai Restaurant, even though I had not eaten there. I had tried the Thai restaurant in the same place under a different owner and a different name. Even the menu was different. Some how Yelp allowed the new owners to keep all the old reviews. Gotta love Yelp. Any way, I finally tried Sawasdee and I like it. The Truckee Meadows is blessed with so many good Thai restaurants. I got a stuffed chicken wing and a cashew chicken dish. The stuffed chicken wing is the best I've had in the Reno area. Really good ingredients. Obviously freshly made. This is a must buy here. The cashew chicken was also quite good. The carrots seemed a little old, but every other vegetable tasted garden fresh and was not overcooked. I ordered the sauce three stars out of five on the hotness scale and it has nice zing to it. This is also a dish worth trying again. Service was good, although I was the only customer in the restaurant at the time. There are some things I don't like. To get a small bowl of the chicken coconut soup I like so much it is $10. That's kind of steep. There were a couple of other things missing from the menu, too, but I can't remember now what they were. All in all Sawasdee seems like an excellent Thai restaurant. read more

The BEST Thai restaurant in the Reno area, and trust me I've tried them all. Additionally, I got the mango spring rolls, which were delicious with the peanut sauce. I continued on with a special seafood salad. It didn't contain a lot of salad, but it had lots of fresh seafood (yum!). Next, I ate the spinach and peanut tofu, which is amazing. Curry in peanut sauce is just soooo good. Located in the same shopping center as Black Rock Pizza and Raley's. Not the best Thai food I have ever had, but it was decent. The food wasn't as flavorful as I am used to, but the basic concept was there. On my visit we Ordered Pad Thai, cashew chicken, and green curry- all with chicken. The green curry and cashew chicken were better than the pad Thai. The pad Thai noodles were really thin and not nearly as flavorful as I am used to. Also, I found it odd that the pad Thai only had chicken, it cost extra to add the shrimp. I've never encountered that at a Thai place before. My wife and I grab lunch here every couple of months and have always had good food and great service. It's not the best or most authentic in Reno/Sparks, but it's close. We usually get the papaya salad (sometimes a bit heavy on the fish sauce) with our lunch combos. We've tried all the lunch combos at one time or another and they're all good. The pork salad (don't remember the full name) is also very good. They changed the kind of noodles they used in the pad thai to a slightly thinner one. You can get the pad thai with shrimp for an extra buck or two. The noodle soup is also ok. I've had it twice with fish balls. Once the soup base was too salty. The fish balls are your standard imitation fish balls. My wife thinks they're disgusting but I dig 'em... The spice scale is really the least consistent. You can get the dishes from 1 to 3 stars on the spice scale. We've had 2 star dishes that were 3+ and we've had 3 stars dishes that were, at best, 2 stars. You can always make your dishes spicier with the condiments on the table. Service is always fast, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is of course strip mally, but it's not trying to be anything else. Ok for groups no larger than 10 people. They can pull a couple tables together but probably not more than that. Reasonably priced as well. Good place to grab a quick bite. read more

I always come here for food. Whether Its take out or dine in. Customer Service here is quite over the top friendly and always makes you want to tip a little more. The ladies don't speak great English but still sweet enough they tend to point things out for you on the menu to guide you on spice levels and understanding what everything comes with. I love the appetizers here! All so delicious and the peanut sauce is amazing. I love using it for all their salads and spring rolls. The fact that they serve brown rice as well is very gratifying. I don't know why it has taken me so long to write a review for this place. I go here all the time! (At least 3-5 times per month between eating in the restaurant and ordering take out.) Let me start by saying that Bim, the owner/hostess/waitress, is the nicest and friendliest restaurateur and front of house person I have ever met. She is always in a good mood, always eager to provide suggestions should you ask, and is quick! I have never had a bad experience eating in the restaurant. I regularly order take out, when eating in the restaurant isn't possible or convenient. In the history of ordering to-go I've only had one less than fantastic experience and I chock that up to it being super loud in the environment that I made the phone call from to place the to-go order. (I normally order 5-spicy and got a 1-spicy dish ONCE.) My fiance LOVES the Pad See Ew with tofu. The flavors are the best in town. TRUST me on this. I've been to several Thai places in town (Bangkok, Thai Chile, the Thai place down town whose name I can't remember, one on the south side of town, The Basil in Carson City, and most recently Thai Basil in Sacramento). Each time I've eaten somewhere else I've been less than impressed - and I used to LOVE eating at Bangkok. Now, I feel like I'm cheating on Sawasdee, Bim, and myself when I eat somewhere else. Mostly because a few of the other places give me a bit of indigestion due to the food being overly greasy. Sawasdee is awesome! The service is friendly and super fast...maybe a little too fast. If you want to relax and kick back this is not the place to do it. But, if you are looking for really great Thai food that is quick but doesn't taste quick then this is your place. The Pad Thai is really good with lots of noodles. I LOVE having the noodles. It also had a good portion of meat as well but I love the noddles the most. The Phad Si Yoo (spelling?) is so delicious too. That one I actually like better than anything else that we have tried there. The meat is tender and once again there are a lot of noodles (which I love). The absolute favorite of mine though is the coconut pumpkin curry. Oh man I could eat and drink this stuff every single day. It is the best comfort food I have ever had. The taste of coconut is light but flavorful and the pumpkin chunks are so good. I had it with meat combo one time and one time wiht the tofu. At first I was frustrated because the person taking r my order on the phone repeatedly misunderstood what I was saying. Then when I arrived 20 minutes later as they suggested, I had to wait another 15 before my food was actually ready for me to take home. When I finally did get to eat my food. I was relieved to find that the food was great. The pad Thai was sweet and hot and not too soggy. But what overshadowed everything were the fantastic shrimp Rangoon. My family and I went at the encouragement of other Yelpers and we found the experience to be overall very good. I liked the open interior and modest, pleasent decor inside. We went on a Thursday night and the place was almost empty except for the take-outers. One of the first things I noted was that the server brought our daughter a little cup of water with a lid and straw without any prompting. After we ordered two dishes, she made the quick assessment that we'd be sharing with our daughter and offered to bring her a small plate of her own (there were only two on the table). This latter detail should be appreciated by parents of small kids; I swear this is the first time a server has *ever* done that without being prompted. We ordered the pad-see-ew and the panang curry, both with chicken. We had to go low on the spice rating because of our daughter, but the server brought a tray of three spicy condiments (the fine-ground chiles were a great touch to both dishes). I'm not going to claim the food knocked my socks off (the curry was a bit underflavored), but it was very good. I'd become accustomed to not being charged for an extra bowl of rice (I didn't bother to look on the menu earlier) because it costs a restaurant like this pennies, so the only slight tarnish to the meal was getting a $2 charge for the extra rice that we asked for near the end of the meal. read more

Not sure what all the hype is about this place, but I think its mediocre. I was looking through some reviews, and I noticed that the coconut soup and the yellow curry was most explained. I ordered them both, along with some Phat Thai and this flat kind of pancake. (forgot the name) To break it down, the Coconut soup was way to sour for me. I have had more tolerable coconut soups before. The Yellow curry was the only thing that tasted great, aside from the water. The Phat Thai was what one would expect within a Thai restaurant, no more, no less. The tea and everything else was just quite disappointing, the chicken in all my dishes were dry and bland.
