What happened to this place?? I used to recommend it is the best place for breakfast in all of the Wilmington area and I went there the other day and had one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. The biscuit was so hard and stale it probably was at least two days old my omelette was more like a crepe with raw vegetables inside. The grits were worse than any I've ever had and seemed obviously instant which is inexcusable in a place like this. The potatoes were OK but still much drier than I remember them. The coffee was watery, also inexcusable in a place like this. Do yourself a favor Sawmill restaurant and reevaluate the quality that you're putting out. I for one will not be back. read more

The food was decent for breakfast can't really complain too much on that aspect. The service however was terrible. it took us 20 minutes to have a waitress even talk to us. Our food came out roughly 50 minutes after ordering. They forgot my biscuits and said they would be right out... they never came. We were never checked on until our empty plates were already cleared. They also screwed up the checks by putting wrong meals together... I'll never go here again. read more

I almost always get the pulled pork bbq sandwich and I recommend you start there if this is your first time. It's probably their best menu item. You get a nice helping of vinegar style bbq pulled pork on a toasted bun, a dill pickle, and side of crinkle fries for just under $9 after tax. It's not fancy here. It's not a hidden southern food gem. It's very diner-esque...cheap, generously portioned food and they've got some good deals. Don't even bother with the vegetables or eating "healthy." read more

Service was horrible.. Will never set foot in the place again. We waited about 15 mins which was fine. Ordered and after 30 mins still no food. I asked the host guy / manager if he can check on the food and he said tickets come out when they do. Told him I was sitting here for 30 mins and he huffed and puffed shook his head and walked away to check slammed the door going to check. Came back and said not much longer. The Carolina Beach location used to be a great place to get breakfast. It was always delicious and when you called an order in it was ready when you got there. For the past couple of months my experience there has just gone down hill. The food isn't as good and is very inconsistent. Today I called in an order, but they didn't put it in because the thought I asked for a "creamy crush omelet." What is that supposed to be? I ordered a corned beef hash omelette and if you couldn't understand me, you should've asked me to repeat myself. I will not be wasting my time anymore. read more

Great southern food. I got the fried chicken and it came with two sides so I got mac and cheese and onion rings. My girlfriend got the prime rib hogie that was on special. Everything tasted really good and came out fresh and hot. Ice heard so many good things about their breakfast that I will be coming back soon. Yum! read more

Party of six seated in about 15 minutes during very busy Labor Day morning. Food came about 20 after ordering. We had western omelet (fair), eggs and bacon (perfect) and amazing home fries potatoes. They were red taters lightly deep fried and I didn't think they would be good but they tasted amazing, best I've had. Pancake was fair but was in Mickey Mouse shape so thrilled my daughter. Food and service is generally good, inexpensive, but not always consistant. We have visited perhaps 15 times for eat in and take out. The service staff keeps changing and seems inexperienced. Sometimes they serve the wrong dish. Our last experience was a turkey meal take out. The gave us chopped steak. I returned, and they gave me new order and guess what? It was the same chopped steak. Sometimes the dessert is in a separate container for takeout. Sometimes it is included with the main course. I would give 4 stars if not for the service and the relatively frequent service mistakes. read more

I actually like this spot a lot for down home cooking it's nothing fancy by any means and not the best restaraunt for country cooking I've had but it definetly suffices the craving with large portions at great prices. Typically packed on weekends especially Sundays with the church crowd. Great for families. read more

Service is pretty slow, but friendly and food is always as good as what you would expect for the price (especially in regards to the amount they give you). Nice environment. This restaurant is not bad,but nothing special either. My cajun shrimp was really good. The sides reminded me of cafeteria food. I hear the breakfast is very good, but haven't been there for breakfast. I would try it again to give them another shot. read more

Friendly service and really good food. Man size portions for sure but very good! The staff treat you like a local friend. I had the veggie omelette and it was great! My husband had the wood pile and he enjoyed it, even he couldn't finish it though. We will visit here again. read more

Have eaten breakfast here before. The food is OK but the service is slow as molasses. If you're not that hungry or have time to kill this is the restaurant for you. Just be sure to bring a good book or newspaper to read while you wait on your breakfast. read more

We stopped in for supper at about 7 p.m. on December 17th. We found a place to sit and hubby went to the restroom while I waited for our server to come. After he came out of the restroom, we'd waited a quite a bit longer when someone came over and took our drink orders. He told us that he would send our waitress right over. We sat there for about 15 more minutes and our waitress never showed. Some people came in and sat down at a booth adjacent to ours and their server came right over, took their drink orders and returned immediately with their drinks and took their order. Our waitress still didn't come to take our order, so we got up to leave. When we were stopping at the cash register to pay for my husband's soda, she finally came up behind us and said, "Oh, were you ready to order?" I told her that we'd been ready, but no one came. They offered to take our order right then, but we told them that we'd waited long enough and were going somewhere else. At least they didn't charge us for my husband's soda. The food isn't bad, but we were so disappointed in the service this time. If the restaurant had been busy, I could have understood, but there were only a few customers there at that time. I don't know why they wouldn't serve us, but it will likely be a long time before we go back again, if ever. read more

10am on a Sunday is too late if you don't want to wait 10-15 min for a seat. Staff is very friendly. We were able to order fairly quickly but it took quite a while for us to get our food. Food is mediocre. I got the sausage gravy and put it over the home fries, that was good. The brand of chocolate milk they use is pretty gross. It's like the kind you'd get at a gas station. Our server never came back to the table after dropping our food off so I had to get my check from the hostess station. I've haven't heard very good things about the Sawmill but figured I'd give it a shot anyways. We probably won't go back. read more

I've been a 'regular' at this restaurant since they opened. Their breakfast is generally good, the service staff is good to excellent, but the prices are too high. On the week-end they are somewhat 'jammed', This is due to, in part, to no other restaurant availability between the Beach and Wilmington. I recently quit eating there during lunch and dinner. I think they hire one fellow to check each plate as it's going out to be certain that at least one item is 'cold' on the order. They can't, for the life of them, get an order to the table without something being cold on it. Price costly along with a $2 cup of 'joe'. read more

Southern diner food at its best...our northern taste buds found our meals a bit too greasy and salty, but it's the restaurant our local friends say has the southern recipes we should grow to love. If southern cooking is what you're looking for, I think this is a good bet. read more

I would rate it zero stars if I had the chance. The first server asked us "Are you going to eat today?" Well, this is a restaurant, isn't it? She then got our drinks, which were all wrong and the coffee tasted like it was sitting in the pot for 4 hours. Then our second server came over and had the worst attitude. I, a vegetarian, ordered a Reuben with no meat. I get it, it sounds odd, but the disgusted reaction I got from the server was insane. Listen, I'm in food service and I have been since I was 16. We are used to weird requests, if you can accommodate it, then accommodate it. Six different meals our table had and all equally as terrible. The macaroni and cheese was frozen, plopped in a microwave and ice cream scooped into a bowl. I would never go there again and wouldn't recommend it for anything. read more

My God! Were we ever impressed! So two friends and I stumbled across this hidden gem a couple hours ago while driving from the beach... This place is awesome. We were treated like old friends by all the wonderful staff. the service could not have been better! We sat and were immediately greeted by server who took our drink orders and allowed us time to look at a quite extensive menu. One of the entrees took a little longer to make (because it was made fresh) and we were updated multiple times on the status of the order. We were given hushpuppies to munch while we waited and when the entrees came... man were we surprised! The portions were huge! And the food was far beyond our expectation! This was truly a delight. We all cleaned our plates (stuffed so full we hesitated to even move) YES it is that good! Obviously this true country cooking eatery is a must have during any visit to the area. It is well worth driving down just to eat here while on the way to enjoying the shore. Now that we've had the dinner experience we cannot wait to stop by for breakfast! I say again... Between the terrific service and the delicious food this is absolutely a must have when visiting this area! read more

I took my grandmother there for lunch the other day, and it was so disappointing. I got the beef tips, and I put every condiment available on them just to try to give it some flavor. I would compare it to a TV dinner. It was nasty. My grandma's pork chops were okay. The overall meal was definitely not worth $26. I kept waiting for someone to say "how was everything?" But that never happened. 2 waitresses and a person ringing us up, and not one of them thought to ask if our meal was okay. Definitely crossing it off the list of places to eat! read more
