I'm there on Tuesday morning and very lucky to found a street parking right in front of the restaurant. Sax's Joint have their own parking lot on behind the restaurant. The restaurant next door has a parking lot but posted a sign on the wall said "no parking for Sax's Joint"! We received a very warm greeting as soon as we walked into the restaurant. Got a table right next to the window. The first thing it was catching on my eyeballs was the special decorations in the dining room and on the tables! The menu is very easy to understand. We all have ordered the delicious breakfast dishes. The foods quality are very good and it is very delicious! Wonderful restaurant with good foods and very friendly staff! I tried Sax's for lunch yesterday and OMG was it great. I sat at the counter and watched all the great looking dishes coming out of the kitchen. The place is a hoot. It really evokes a funky, fifties diner feel complete with charming waitresses that call you "Hon" and really mean it. I had the club sandwich and potato salad as a side. The sandwich was huge and delicious. The potato salad was homemade and loaded with mayo, the way I love it. The serving was massive. I intended to bring half the sandwich and the potato salad home, but they were so good, I stuffed myself. I am looking forward to going back and trying so many things like the fried chicken, burger, corned beef hash, onion rings, etc., all the things that are not good for you! Sax's Joint, I have a bone to pick with you, yes you are in trouble!! I was finally able to try your salted caramel cinnamon roll. I heated it for 85 seconds instead of the recommended 80. This made it too hot on the outside but perfectly hot the rest of the way through. The frosting is so creamy and smooth. I found one little, tiny chunk of salt so far and it somehow added to the sweetness. So I guess I'm actually saying that I'm in trouble because I'm going to be eating way too many of these!! Thank you ladies for creating another amazing dish!! If you've made it this far down the review because you still aren't sure about this place I don't know what else to tell you. I saw the reviews and thought it would be a good place for breakfast. I'm so sorry I ate there. The French toast was inedible due to the thick coating of cinnamon and the fake maple syrup. The hash browns were crispy only on the top and soggy mess underneath. I know Petaluma has wonderful breakfast restaurants but this wasn't one of them. Also, the dolls and whatnot decorating the walls were such a turn off as they looked dusty and dirty. I'm surprised that they are able to pass inspection! read more

I also added a side of country gravy to smother on top and omg was it out of this world! The portion size was phenomenal; soooo much food and worth every penny. Tasty, hot, fresh coffee as well. My husband's palate was all over the place so he ordered the cinnamon roll pancakes with eggs, chicken apple sausage and garlic fries. Omg the garlic fries are amazingggg. But lots of mayo on an oily grilled garlic bread roll drops it a star. Wonderful flavor, but way too greasy. Would totally order it again, but would mention that. We found Sax's Joint on Yelp, and a great find it was! It was a bit off the beaten path, but we decided to check in out since they allow dogs on their patio and their food looked yummy. Walk in, put your name on the list, and hang out in front until they call for you. Help yourself to some coffee while you wait too. We tried the tri-tip Benedict, corned beef hash, and the sourdough french toast. Everything here is home-made - their jams, their hash, their juices ... everything! Nothing knocked my socks off, but it was quite fresh, and very tasty. The service was excellent - fast and friendly - even though they were very busy. Came back for some more goodies and sheesh left in another food coma! This time we got their chicken fried chicken, mexican benedict, cinnamon pancake, and their cinnamon roll. Everything was just perfect! Like man the gravy on that chicken was legendary (5/5). The mexican benedict was mouthwatering delicious. Who would of thought that chorizo would meld so well with hollandaise sauce (5/5)! The cinnamon roll and the cinnamon pancake we got was nothing short of immaculate! Searched for a good brunch place in the area on New Years and this place was a good choice! Cute lil diner inside with outside (covered) seating on the side of the building. Food portion is BIG!!! I wasn't expecting it to be a large portion. I noticed a table next to us and they had a HUGE biscuit. My french toast order had an oopsies with bacon and scramble instead of sausage and over easy eggs. BUT, the most kind waitress quickly fixed that and brought me a plate with my eggs and sausage while she left the bacon and scramble with my french toast. I didn't really need the extra eggs or bacon, but I guess it's just easier for everyone. Definitely recommend this brunch spot in Petaluma. Friendly, quick, and accommodating service. Came in today with my son and husband. The experience was horrible! I have a service animal I had my husband go put our name on the list while my son and I were in the parking lot. He called me and said our table is ready. I started walking to the table once I could clearly see the table I went and let the host know unfortunately it wouldn't work. She got an attitude and said you accepted it I said no I did not and would like to move to one of the open tables in the back. She said you will need to put your name back on the list. I said so because I am disabled with my service dog and your table wouldn't work I have to wait again. She laughed at me and then words were exchanged. The owner came out and tried to smooth the situation over but unfortunately the damage was done. Our family will never return to this establishment. As a business owner myself I would never allow anyone to leave my restaurant feeling like I felt. I was discriminated against and laughed at. Do better and train your employees better! read more

I was on my way to do some shopping at the Petaluma Village Outlet, when I stumbled across this 50's diner for a quick bite. The small diner is located in "no man's land" and within minutes of the Downtown area. With vintage pictures and décor of James Dean and Marilyn Monroe and the tunes of Righteous Brothers playing throughout, this diner does feel like I was back in that era. I found out the workers will not allow me to blast my jams from Meek Mills or Cardi B. My childish act was all petty, therefore it's all good. I was looking at the menu, they were only serving breakfast (all day till closing) and lunch. One item caught my eyes was "The Brandon". For $13.00, it is just a cheeseburger without the buns in a flour tortilla. The meat was cut and cooked into strips. The wrap is a good alternative if you want to eat less bread. The "Brandon" was hearty with a minimal amount of carbs. With my wrap, I also bought a can of Lagunitas: Daytime ale. For $5.00, the light beer with 4% ABV is from Petaluma with the brewery is located just within minutes. As I was enjoying my meal, I was seeing the chefs making the giant cinnamon rolls. I haven't seen any place that serve the pastry on steroids since I was in Minneapolis. Now I know where to get that giant pastry. It was fun to dine at a diner with a nostalgic 50's feel. read more

Had breakfast at Sax's Joint on Saturday morning. Huge portions of delicious and heavy breakfast items. Come hungry and you will have a blast. They have a small bar area up front, the kitchen in the center, and then a small dining room in the back. They also appeared to have a covered outdoor patio area. The walls are covered with different 50s memorabilia, but weirdly not enough. There are big gaps in rooms with high ceilings. It is odd, but easy to forget about once the food arrives. Crowd: We arrived at the perfect time because we were able to snag one of the few remaining tables without any wait. When we left, there were about fifteen people waiting outside and one was quoted at 30mins wait. Service: Quick to get you seated and food comes out fast. Our first time at Sax's but it won't be our last!! We had read that this diner was listed among the best places for brunch in the Bay Area so we wanted to try it out. The food was delicious and HUGE portions! Bring your appetite. We arrived mid day on a Wednesday and we were seated right away! Our server, Melissa, was really helpful explaining the menu to us as this was our first time. The service was great and very professional. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was excellent!! The largest crab cakes I've ever seen! My partner had the French toast and he loved it! It was a huge amount so we took the rest home. I love small, family owned, local breakfast spots with homemade goodies. Our server was amazing. She mentioned that the jams were her grandmother's recipe. My favorite? Strawberry. Try it with their homemade biscuit. Boom. Delish. Serving sizes are humongous! The 4 of us did not finish our plates and had to take some doggie bags to go. I had the corned beef hash but the star of the plate was the potatoes with sour cream. Yum!!! French toast was also good eats. All around comfort food with fantastic service. Located in what looks to have been a private home originally, this small 50's vibe diner gets very crowded but for good reason: the service is very pleasant and efficient even when faced with mobs of customers, the food and drinks come out in reasonable time and are delicious. Instead of toast we got their large homemade biscuit and jam which were great..even their hashbrowns which are usually meh in most places (I normally get country potatoes in preference) are quite good.
