I came here with a party of three. The wait wasn't bad--15 minutes roughly. I like how there are mini menus up front so people can review while they wait. By the time we were seated I knew exactly what I wanted. California Benedict--this was a "diner style" Benedict. My husband said it was a bit greasy so he liked it but didn't love it. He gives it a 7/10. TTs famous French toast--four enormous slices of bread--it didn't taste strongly of sourdough, but that's what it was marketed as. This dish is way too big for one person. I recommend splitting it with someone if you can. It is really good for "diner food," so if you're a French toast aficionado, I highly recommend. It's served with a delicious but rich cream cheese and Marion berry mixture shaped like a scoop (looks like ice cream)! Mimosas-- I got the Grapefruit Blvd., mimosa it was served in a canning jar with pink sugar on the rim. Very delicious, and contains more alcohol that it seems at first sip. Coffee--this was the weak link. I was very disappointed. It was either, old, burnt, or just not made from good beans. read more

Fun, retro atmosphere and friendly, efficient staff. The portion sizes were very large and we could see that all of the staff were engaged and enjoyed their job. There was an obvious local at the counter that likely had some sort of delay but the entire staff were so open and welcoming that it was a delight to observe. Sometimes with the service window that you can see through to the kitchen the cook staff can appear grouchy or harried. These cooks were cheerful and friendly with the wait staff. No grumbling about a forgotten side item or a request for a replacement. They should be very proud of the food that they were putting out. The breakfast sausage was delicious and well cooked. The whole family enjoyed sharing my husband's biscuit it was that huge. My daughter had the French toast and it was crisp on the outside slightly gooey on the inside like it's supposed to be! I had the crab sandwich- not as terrific as some that I have had, but that with the tasty, crisp fries was totally worth it! We took a cinnamon roll to go because we simply couldn't resist. We should have purchased one of their souvenir shirts! Very glad that we stopped here on our way up the coast! read more

Love love love this place. Wether your from out of town or live in Sonoma County you need to check this place out. Theres nothing on the menu that I dont like. The chicken and waffles is the shit! The french toast is super bomb to. They have a marionberry jam that goes good on literaly anything, and yes even on the chicken. But wait the GARLIC FRIES!!!!! First Time Here . Parking: We found a parking right in front of the diner . It is street parking. We missed the diner driving by ; it's a small building between two other buildings. It's definitely a cute spot . Dining: They have outdoor dining on the side of the building and indoor dining. I like that they have everything you need on the tables such as all the utensils and condiments ready along with extra napkins and straws . Service: Our waitress was friendly. Very attentive, always checked on us and made sure we had everything we needed. Food Portions: The portions or HUGE. Can't complain, left overs are always great to take home . You definitely get your money's worth . I consider the food very much like comfort food. Flavor Profile: Depending what you order of course. I got the Eggs Benedict Sampler ( Today's Special) It came with a Florentine Benedict and Mexican Chorizo Benedict. The Chorizo was very good ! Just eating that one Benedict alone I became stuffed , it was my favorite one . The egg is scrambled with the chorizo on this one . The Florentine Benedict was not my favorite. It's only because I did not like the hollandaise Sauce much. It was thin and very bland . My egg was cooked perfectly. I absolutely love the potatoes and how they are cooked . Nice big pieces very soft almost like baked potato soft. I had to add more salt on my food. Not a complete deal breaker here only bc I would rather have food I can add to then something highly salty I can't take away . season to your liking with more or less salt . The biscuit.. lol is a wonderful soft amazing filling loaf of bread . It's good , necessary? Probably not but why not .. my BF ordered the country fried steak , he ate his whole plate and said " it was really good and I like the gravy" no additional seasoning added . He was satisfied. Even tho I found some of the food bland , it just needed a dash of salt. What I really love and appreciate was that none of the food was greasy, oily or heavily buttery . Wow this place is the best !! It has a 50's diner theme and the menu is classic American !! The place is a hole in the wall so our group took a long time to be seated.. but it was definitely worth the wait . I ordered the Zack Attack which is a bacon cheeseburger filled with Mac n Cheese and it didn't disappoint at all... it was a total carb overload which was perfect . Do note that the portion sizes are huge . The table next to me ordered a milkshake and the size of that was bigger than my head . You'll definitely need some to go boxes. At first we thought we had to sit outside which would have been too cold, today for us, even though they have heaters. We'd been wanting to try the place for a while and finally made the trek from Santa Rosa; they don't take reservations. But at the last minute they got us a table inside. Service was ok. My husband got hot chocolate that was too cool and they took it to heat up and forgot about it till we asked. They also forgot to tell us about the specials. I disliked that the cream for the coffee comes in those little throw away thimble size containers; very wasteful and messy for those who like cream in the coffee like me. It becomes allot of garbage all over the little table space. We had to ask them to take some of it off the table. Now to the good parts: i got the California benedict. I really liked the thick quality bacon; a piece for each English muffin ( could have used tiny bit more bacon?). The avocado was perfect and so was the hollandaise sauce! ( good job, almost asked for more of that). I like the green onions on your potatoes! Yes! My husband got the big surf n turf breakfast. Very tasty/ the garlic shrimp were perfect! My son got the fried chicken and waffle which was huge! Like a half a chicken in total practically ( of say it's very shareable) He liked it. My granddaughter got the regular French toast which she barely ate because it was too sweet. And i thought it was on the pricey side for what it was; the whole pieces of toast for $14, wood have been nice to have some fresh strawberries or something with it. Alert for purists: Not real maple syrup. You get up to pay your bill. Three stars for negative aspects of service and pretty good food. read more

Solid 5 stars. Incredible food, fast and attentive service, and great value for the price. If anything I think they are undercharging. My husband got the chicken and waffles but subbed the standard waffle for a spicy bacon and cheese waffle ($20). It practically came with an entire fried chicken, that was unbelievable. Waffle was fluffy and flavorful, chicken was perfectly cooked. I got two fluffy scrambled eggs with hash browns, toast and what looked like homemade strawberry jam. Kudos for flavorful hash browns with no onions ($9). We also got the pancake special: 3 large lemon poppyseed pancakes topped with a creamy lemon curd ($15). My husband also had a Bloody Mary, which he said was the best he's had, and it even came with bacon ($9) and then we got two huge cinnamon rolls at the register to take home ($4 each). We arrived here about 9:30 on a Saturday and got seated almost immediately inside, the waitress was amazing and very attentive. When we left there was a long line at the door. Stopped here on the way to Guernville with some friends and it was the perfect place to kick off our trip! We sat on the patio on a lovely October afternoon and the temperature was great. There were a few flys and bees flying around but honestly the food was so freaking good that I kinda understood why they wanted to be so close to it. I ordered a waffle (decided to do it sans fried chicken but I regretted it immediately when the table next to us got it and it looked HUGE and amazing). The waffle was perfectly cooked and the syrup provided was warm and delicious. Also just because I hate the idea of living a long life I had to get the garlic fries which were soooo good. This place is impressive! Now, probably won't appeal to the bastion of veganites in the Bay. However, for those that love down home, comfort-style, delicious food... this is the place!! Sax's should be featured on "Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, for it's authentic diner-style setting. From the outside, it looks super small and tight, but upon entry you realize that the place sprawls to the back and on to a cool patio area for diners. I'm sure you can cut back on some of the sides to lower the caloric intake of some of the meals, but that means you'll miss out on all the flavors, taste, and freakin' goodness in many of the dishes. We took our son and a few of his friends for Sat brunch, so we had a pretty good selection of different items from the menu. I tried some of everything and it was so "De-Lish!!!" Plus, knowing how picky kids can be, it was awesome to see all the clean plates at our table. The food, the service (AWESOME), and the whole vibe, music and interior decoration of the place takes you on a 'time-warp' - back to a day when "home-style cooking" was the center of the universe! The waitresses all gave good customer service. We had the gal with Rhianna nails- you know who you are. ;-) Talk about having a home cooked meal!!!! Now, listen... seriously. This restaurant is busy, far from a chain restaurant because they use 'real' ingredients, add flavor, and use family recipes! I loved it! Expect to wait for s seat. The decor is all about the old school 50/60s diner with a Marilyn Monroe flare and family pictures (assuming). The dishes/silverware is a little on the cheap side, but I'm sure it'll get upgraded in a few years. Saxs has branding potential. The girls all have the pinup doll look as well. Heyyy gals! My only wish is when in wine country, do what snobs do. Drink more wine! Saxs has slim beer/wine options, but it's all good! Nothing related to the food/staff. Me venting... I felt discriminated here. I was the only person of color and my guests were the few Latins out of the other handful. As we waited outside people starred and whispered. If you're looking for kitsch, this is your place.. hello 1955. Everything from the pink sugar on the rim of the mason glass mimosa to the heart attack portions of food. The dining room could have been the perfect backdrop to the film, American Graffiti. The food is nothing fancy, but basics looked solid all around. With this being my first visit, I decided to try the chicken and waffles as it's one of my guilty pleasures and will order it anytime I see it on the menu. When the plate arrived, I was shocked by the amount of chicken on the plate; I almost could not see the waffle hiding under the multiple pieces of chicken. I actually had to ask for a separate plate to be able to cut into the waffle. Overall, the experience was good, I enjoyed the crispy chicken and the waffle was also the perfect balance of crunchy but not too crispy or dry. Since there are not too many breakfast options in Petaluma, we did have a bit of a wait for a seat but if I were to crave chicken and waffles again, I may consider returning. read more

Wow. What a place! Lots and lots of lady servers with ink. Quite sexy. The food was picture perfect. My man had the biscuits and gravy with bacon and eggs. Biscuits were very impressive and they were light and fluffy. Gravy was not heavy but creamy and lots of sausage crumbles. He was happy. I had the tri-tip eggs benedict. The poached eggs were perfect. Hollandaise was light and bright. The sourdough toast under everything was so golden brown and absorbed all that steak juice and hollandaise. Potatoes were large flattened crusted pieces. The crunch and flavor was yummy. The best part of this potatoes? A dollop of sour cream and sprinkle of green onion. I didn't use ketchup on my potatoes at all. As the plates passed by for other tables I realized that they just serve picture perfect and nice portioned plates of food. I wish they had a location near my home. If I'm ever up here again, I'm definitely coming back. Background music: Country, my favorite. read more

We stopped here for breakfast and found it to be the cutest place with the best breakfast we've had thus far! It's one of those great places where the coffee matches how good the food is. The serving of eggs that went along with the sausage and bacon (meal add on to 1/2 biscuits and gravy) was great and all the food was yummy.
