Came here and tried the chicken fried steak and it was really delicious! I swapped the regular potatoes with hashed browns and kept the biscuit and it was so freaking good. Only con is it's all street parking which sucks. Definitely worth it for breakfast though. read more

If you want to eat breakfast at a place that feels like it's been open forever and everyone likes, this is the place. It's kind of tight quarters inside but still comfortable. It is a bit loud so you might find yourself saying "WHAT?" to the others at your table but this is part of the homey charm. Outside seating is available for a bit of a quieter experience. The food is very good though a bit heavy on the potatoes but that's standard for a place like this. The amount of food you get though is more than enough and very filling. Very tasty with lots of options. Coffee is basically bottomless so that's appreciated. The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. No problems with the service. Overall, Sax's is famous and rightly so. It's probably the place you want to go when looking for breakfast in Petaluma. Will be back again for sure. read more

Stopped here with some friends for breakfast before our activities. People were in line outside which was the first good sign. The establishment is pretty tight. Large parties are definitely going to be shoulder to shoulder- out party of 5 was a tight squeeze! Food was decent and came out quickly. Wait staff gave us obligatory service- nothing more, nothing less. I ordered the crab cake Benedict. It was good. I asked that my eggs be on the former side. Had brunch at Sax's Joint today and it sure lived up to its reputation for great food and big portions. Good service too. The menu is large and I had trouble deciding what to get for first visit. Eggs Benedict with home made Dungeness crab cakes won. They came with home fries with sour cream and green onions garnish. Some of best home fries I've ever had. I like the pieces with brown edges. The crab cakes were the size of a burger. And very tasty with the perfectly cooked poached eggs. I had a fresh orange juice mimosa which came in a frosty fruit jar with a sugar rim. Super fresh and large. The food was so delicious but I had a hard time to finish the large portions. Sax's is in a cute building with much more space than appears outside. I have to say that this place hands down is the best biscuit and gravy I have ever had. The biscuits are huge as well. They are equivalent to the size of two normal sized biscuits. The white sausage gravy is a nice compliment to the biscuit. I also tried the corned beef hash. This dish provided an excellent flavor and the corned beef was so juicy and tender. This is a fun little nostalgic place with the rock and roll memorabilia theme. The service was very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant when you are in Petaluma. read more

Found this place while looking for a burger place. Cute and small friendly staff and very welcoming. We were a little unsure since we got there at about 2:00pm upon asking waitress told us they close at 3:00pn that's why there wasn't a lot of people she told us we missed the rush, they helped us and answered all questions we were not disappointed at all so worth it it's a total gem in hiding you have to check out you won't be disappointed even the small bathroom is cute with all the sayings on the wall read more

The space might be small but wowser are the portions amazingly big and plentiful! You might want to not eat for a day (just drink water to live of course) in order to truly love this experience. The ambiance is a blast back to the 50's era it looks like. The servers are friendly and super helpful in determining what to order. This is one of those places when you say the name the reaction is an immediate Oh! Yeah-they are Great! There was a short wait when we got there at 12:30 on an Sat-we were a party of 5. There is covered outside seating that is dog friendly. The menu is one where Everything looks good. Breakfast? Lunch? Both! Our service person was great. Offered daily specials and when one person could not decide between the "best burger you have ever had" or the biscuits and gravy they were a good sport when they were asked to "surprise" them. Even though the place was busy we were served relatively quickly. Food portions are generous we all needed To Go containers. We stopped at Sax's Joint for brunch and were so happy we did since our friend in the area recommended this spot! There was no wait for a table of 2 at 12:30pm on a Sunday and we got seated in their back room. They have cool retro decorations that add to the diner vibe and friendly service which made it really feel like a local spot. I ordered the eggs with sausage links, hash browns, and the homemade biscuit. My boyfriend got the french toast that came toasted with cinnamon sugar and topped with their marionberry cream cheese. Everything tasted high quality and homemade, I LOVED their homemade biscuit, it might be the best I've ever had. It was so fluffy and moist on the inside, while maintaining a good crust on the outside. The eggs also tasted high quality, which I really appreciated in a time where eggs = $$$. The hash browns were clearly freshly cooked to a crispy outside and soft potato inside. The french toast was unique and balanced well with the cinnamon sugar and marionberry cream cheese. We didn't think it needed syrup at all, it was perfectly sweet with a slight tang. With a coffee and apple juice, the bill came out to $45 before tip which was so reasonable for the quality of food. One of the best 50s Style dinners in America! Went to Bodega Bay for a week get away, stop had breakfast, pancakes with a huge bowl of vanilla frosting. It was absolutely delicious. I had the sausage patties and eggs with the biscuits and gravy in it too was amazing. It was so good. We drove the extra 30 minutes from bodega Bay back to Petaluma to have it again and then a week later we drove on our way out we stopped and had it again. The people are super friendly. The food is delicious and you gotta love the 50s diner decor absolutely should be one of your stops when you travel through Petaluma! read more

Great breakfast in the North Bay! We tried a lot of items while on a family roadtrip. The seating is a bit tight, but it's worth it. FYI, no strollers per restaurant policy. The staff is busy, but they get the job done. I really liked the freshly breaded chicken fried steak. Also, very tasty gravy that wasn't too salty! Both styles of potatoes were delicious. You can't go wrong with either! The green onions and sour cream were a nice touch on the country potatoes. And to cap it all of with the biscuit and jam... Keep slinging great food! Our food came out swiftly and was nice and hot. Our server checked in and made sure everything was great. I ordered the crab cake melt with fries and my son ordered the biscuits and gravy, with 2 eggs and sausages with a cookies and cream milkshake. The serving sizes are very generous. The food was delicious. Next time I'll order my crab cake melt with no spinach. I didn't like how the first 1/2 of my sandwich fell apart, had to get my hands dirty, but overall it was worth it. I definitely recommend this place and what I ordered! My son said he loved his shake and food too! My other son is a toddler so we just shared our food with him.
