I love a classic diner and this one is as good as it gets! We were in town for the lacrosse tournament and I found this spot based on Yelp reviews. We had a group of 5 and were nervous to come as walk-ins on a weekend since they don't take reservations. 2 friends got there at 9:45am and put our names down. The rest of us showed up at 10am and then we were seated right away! The inside feels like a typical diner with staff running around, everyone in matching black + pink diner t-shirts, photos and oddities lining the walls, a visible opening into the kitchen where you can see the cooks working hard...it all has a laid back and comfortable vibe that makes you feel welcome! The staff were all friendly and attentive to our needs. The menu is huge, it was hard to make a decision. 2 of my friends started with mimosas which came out in mason jars with a bright pink sugar rim! I got one of the breakfast combos that came with eggs, bacon, country potatoes topped with sour cream & green onions, and a homemade biscuit! So much food for $15! Everybody in my group loved their food, it was all delicious and came with great serving sizes. I got a cinnamon roll togo, it was massive and oh so good! I wish this diner was closer to where I live, I would definitely be a regular here! They have some unique breakfast items that I would love to try in the future. We were driving through town and my husband was starving so I looked up what was near us. Cute little retro cafe that had all the feels. I ordered the crab cake Benedict with the eggs poached hard. And hubby had the French toast. His French toast was super yummy and he was super pleased, until he overheard the waitress telling the table next to us the specials. Whatever he heard he said, that's what he would have ordered but we were never told there were any specials. He still liked what he had but was disappointed. My food came out cold! Best breakfast in town! If you're looking for a place that will never disappoint, with incredible employees, this is your spot! I just had the best Reuben of my life and don't even get me started on the homemade cinnamon rolls! Seriously, don't skip this place. Every time I walk out feeling full, indulged and excited to go back. Also, my husband and our two kids ate here today, and while being a week postpartum, completely forgot to pay our bill. I had to run back and use the restroom and thank gosh I did otherwise we wouldn't have realized! Wow! How is it that I am a third generation Marin native and didn't know about this place?! Stopped in for a late Friday lunch and ordered the Pesto Burger. This monumental burger, cooked, as ordered, to medium rare perfection, blew me away! All ingredients balanced nicely - not too much pesto (which can overwhelm), a generous helping of perfectly ripe avocado, ripe tomato slices, red onion and fresh lettuce. The fries were hot, crispy and SO tasty. The bun was toasted and completely complimentary to the burger. The portions were huge, so much so I could not finish the burger, which is rare. I felt like I had been invited to a friend's house for lunch and my friend was an excellent cook with a sense of decor that matched my quirky, whimsical, retro tastes. Classic rock appropriately filled the kitschy pink and black, shabby chic (a very good thing) space. Even the bathroom felt like the bathroom at a friend's - a vanity replete hair dryer and the usual vanity items but clean and welcoming. There are multiple seating options - counter, front room, back room and a covered outside alley (which is where I sat). I could just come and hang out here. My server, Rosie, was so kind, familiar, cute and totally on top of it. We were on the same wave length. Thank you Rosie! I loved the menu and will absolutely return. My husband and I come here often, we have been trying most of the items on the menu. Everything that they serve is amazing. Today we had the chicken and waffles, if you're really hungry don't order this. It does take about 30min to make, but it's so work the the wait. The chicken was so crunchy on the outside and juice and tender on the ones. The waffle was so tasty it didn't even need the syrup. The steak and eggs is amazing and super flavorful, we get this most of the time. It comes with a huge biscuit, with a side of home made jam. The prices are unbeatable, $20 for chicken and waffles is a steal, and under $25 for steak and eggs. Not only is the food delicious it's big portions, we always have leftovers. It does get busy and a little loud on the weekends, make sure to get here early to beat the crowds read more

Sax's Joint offers a charming 50's style atmosphere that takes you back in time. We found this place based on all the amazing reviews on both Google and Yelp. From the beginning, the service was fast and friendly. Luckily, we came early enough so we didn't have to wait. Due to the small size of the restaurant, everyone who arrives when the restaurant is full has to wait outside, which doesn't sound that great, especially on a chilly morning or a rainy day. Our server, Baily, was nice and attentive. We had two cups of coffee, and I had waffles with whipped cream, while my husband opted for the chicken fried steak with eggs and hashbrowns. The chicken fried steak was tough and chewy, but the gravy had a nice flavor. The hashbrowns and eggs were good, though not outstanding. Came here for breakfast on a rainy Sunday morning and the place was packed. You put your name, party size, and where you want to sit on a paper outside, then wait to be called. There's no host to give you an estimated wait time, but you can sort of gauge it by how many uncrossed names there are. We probably waited around 20 minutes. To eat I ordered California Benedict substituting potatoes for hashbrowns, and my mom one of the French toast options. Food came out in what felt like a matter of minutes. The portions were pretty large for both meals. The Benedict was filling and came with super thick cut bacon. My favorite part of the meal was the hashbrowns, they were super crispy and very flavorful, didn't have add anything to them to enjoy. We sat inside in the back room which was filled with old school pictures and other retro memorabilia. From the checkered floors to the waitresses wearing bandanas in their hair, the whole place gave off a retro vibe. The place does seem to be super popular and therefore was really loud. Not the most relaxing environment, but as the larger parties cleared out so did some of the noise. Overall a solid breakfast spot serving up traditional diner food at a reasonable price. Street parking was available across the street and on the side street at the end of the block. read more

Slightly early for lunch (11:45ish) and seated immediately. The atmosphere was fun. Lots of stuff to look at. My husband and I both ordered a Just a Cheeseburger and fries. Our servier was friendly, but not overly. She brought our sodas right away. The food come soon after, and it was the best burger I've had in a long time. It was very flavorful, cooked to perfection with a crispy bun and toppings on the side. The fries were good, but completely over shadowed. I'm very frugal and often hate paying to go out, so I usually order less expensive items on the menu. In today's economy I usually cringe at the prices on the menu, but this burger was worth it. If we're in Petaluma again I will go back! And maybe I'll spring for the onion rings. read more

We decided to sit outside since it wasn't cold and they had headlamps. We ordered the corn beef hash, chicken fried steak chicken, and pancakes for the kids. Everything was amazing! The corn beef hash was very fresh, not your traditional carved hash, but you see chunks of corn beef mixed with potatoes. The chicken steak was thick and gravy was very savory. First of all! I ordered this pie on a recommendation of an employee in a Facebook group. I was looking for the best chocolate cream pie in the area for my boyfriend's birthday. I ordered it a week or two ahead. When it came to the day of, I called to make sure it was ready as I had an hour drive. They were looking for my order and asked if I could pick it up later than the time I requested it. I told them that cut into our birthday plans and it wasn't really convenient but if that's all they could do I'd make it work. I went to pick up at the time they asked and they charged me $40 rather than the $30 I was told it would cost. No problem, it's supposed to be THAT good I'll pay whatever. So then they hand me a pie dish with a glob of chocolate plopped in it. I told them I had a long drive and asked if there was a box or anything they could secure it in. They put in tooth picks and cellophane over it. I could see the pie looked like it wasn't set up and it looked more like pudding. I put it in the fridge as soon as I got home. When I put the whipped cream on, right before serving as instructed, it melted off before we had even eaten our first piece. Aside from all this it did NOT taste good. My boyfriend will eat almost anything and he didn't even finish his first piece. The next day he suggested we throw it away as all the whip cream melted off and it looked gross and didn't taste much better. I went a long time without posting this but it still bothers me I tried to do something special and got a big poop mush pie. read more

Horrible. I wanted to love this place, but the service we received and witnessed today was genuinely disappointing. The energy felt off from the moment we tried to order drinks, despite the restaurant not being full our server seemed more interested in other things than actually taking care of us. When we tried to order, she cut us off twice to rush off. The breaking point, however was the owner's behavior. In the middle of waiting for our meals, the owner started reprimanding a nearby table, accusing a couple of the guests of being "difficult." The poor customers looked absolutely stunned; they were sitting there with a young child seemingly unsure of what they had done that warranted such a hostile response from the owner. It was uncomfortable to witness management project internal stress onto customers in such a public and aggressive manner. It's unfortunate because the food might have been good, but the attitudes, inattentive service, and unhinged behavior from the owners ruined the afternoon. A busy shift is never an excuse for a lack of basic courtesy, especially in front of families. Due to this unprofessional experience, I cannot recommend this establishment and will not be returning. read more

On our way back to the Bay Area, I found this place that was close by to where we were staying . Super cute place with mouth watering delicious food! Even though they were super busy and short staffed, our waitress was on it! She made sure we had what we needed and checking in to make sure we were good. We sat at the bar which was a treat because we got a bird's eye view of all the delicious plates that were being served.
