I love anything lemon flavored so their $3.20 strawberry-blueberry lemon bar was perfect for me. If you check in on yelp right now they give you a free small coffee! Also, they were giving out samples of their delicious lemon butter cookies. Everything I ended up trying was so colorful & cute. They had these $1.50 pizza breads that looked good for a lunch visit. Also, I've tried their lemon riccotta pound cake at the Italian food festival last summer. It's very dense & sweet; so be warned it's quite the decedent dessert. I can totally see myself enjoying my latte, some sort of bakery item or sandwich and just getting a lot of work done. They have free wifi so that's always a plus! Plenty of seating for solo work or group work too. Ordered a latte, cappuccino, Pesto sandwich, tomato quiche, and a glazed apple cider donut. Both of the beverages were good and did their jobs, which was to give us both a nice caffeine kick to start our morning. The Pesto Sandwich was very good! The mozzarella slices were generous as well as the smear of pesto sauce and the salami slices added such a nice bite to the ciabatta panini style sandwich. The Tomato quiche came with a side salad of Arugula and some zesty vinaigrette which was nice. The quiche was flavorful and filling. The apple cider donut was very yummy! Great location for a nice quiet coffee spot. Small but charming location and great staff. They not only have coffee and pastries but they also serve breakfast as well. Free WiFi if you need to get some work done while munching on a scone, cookie, donut or toast. Parking will probably be an issue but very close to the pink line. I went with the pumpkin scone and was so delicious! Ive also had the Parmesan scone ( which is what I originally came in for) but it's only seasonal. They also have samples while you pay. Just left (I was there 945-953 am today) and while the poor bespectacled gal at counter was helping me, she was repeatedly interrupted by a very loud, aggressive sounding coworker, who clearly didn't care that a customer (me) was present and actively ordering. I nearly said something to her/walked out, but didn't want to waste my time training a grown adult in good manners. I have liked the pastries here in the past, but will definitely seek them elsewhere in future as I would rather not hear high pitched yelling for no reason, especially so early in the morning! ScafuriBakery if you hope to stay in business during these lean times, probably a good idea to train better, more pleasant, and professional staff. I was looking for a cake for a party and came across Scarfuri and was sold when I saw that they had Nutella Ganache (sounds so good!). I got a chocolate cake with Nutella Ganache, assorted pastries and a pan of pizza. It was a moist three layer cake, but I was disappointed that the ganache didn't taste like Nutella at all. They had a good selection of cookies and pastries. The pizza is more Sicilian style with the thick crust and a tad on the dry side. The staff that I dealt with on the phone and when I picked up my order were friendly. Taylor street can be pretty busy, so parking is hit or miss. We found a spot a few buildings down on the Saturday morning that we went. What I had didn't feel like five stars, but good enough that if I'm in the neighborhood, I'd stop by for a snack and latte. read more

Two years ago I ordered some pastries for Christmas and picked them up on Christmas Eve and later that night when we opened the box they were as hard as a rock! We all decided not to let thus spoil our party so we moved on. A few months passed and my girlfriend and me were on a walk and decided to stop by for a quick bite. I mentioned to the man behind the counter what had happened at Christmas and all he said was, "Oh", no sorry or perhaps comp our cookies and coffee, just, "oh". At Thanksgiving I thought I'd give them another chance so I placed an order for a Chocolate Pecan Pie. I don't know about you but I expect to eat a pie with just a fork. When we tried to enjoy the pie for dessert we had to carve into it with a steak knife! I tried to return 3/4's of the pie the following day but they were closed so in the trash it went. Scafuri Bakery met all of our requirements... cheap, well-rated, and the perfect location on our drive from Cleveland to Des Moines. My boyfriend and I met up with two friends and we each ordered from the sandwich menu. I started with the sopressata sandwich but after being surprised by the jalapenos I swapped halves with my boyfriend to enjoy the porchetta, which was much more to my liking. There was a little too much bread for each sandwich, and the flour made it quite messy, but the taste won me over. We enjoyed a lemon baby cake and classic donut on our drive to Des Moines, both of which were rich, moist, and sugary. read more

A HUGE minus is that the baristas there seem to be... "unaware" of customers in the cafe sometimes. I tried the Lemon Ricotta with raspberry and cannoli cream after seeing it on Chicagos Best TV. I really loved it and had been hyping it up to my friends and family. I ordered a 6 inch version of the cake this past weekend to bring to a small family gathering and sadly to say it did NOT impress and it was pretttty bad. The cake itself was extremely dry and hard even after leaving it out to come to room temp. The only response I got from the 7 people that ate it was "whipped cream is really good" but, who can't make good whipped cream?? I was so disappointed in the texture, unevenness of filling causing cake to buckle when cut and the overall taste of the cake it definitely was not consistent with what I had tried a couple of months ago. This review is based on an online ordering experience. I ordered cookies on Sunday, December 16th on the website and paid for 2 day delivery. My expectation was the order would be filled within 2-3 business days and the cookies would be shipped fresh and packaged well on the delivery date chosen which was Saturday, December 22nd. I emailed to follow up on my order and received an email that the cookies were shipping on December 18th which included a link to usps. I clicked the link for the next 2 business days and there was no information indicating the order was even picked up from the bakery. The order finally was associated with the usps link on Thursday December 20th at 8pm. At this point the cookies were now at least 3 days old. I finally received the cookies on the evening of Monday December 24th, now almost 1 week old. These were a gift for my family in which I spent $86 on. When I opened the package and tried them, they were all stale and very dry. They were also on a plastic 4 inch dish with saran wrap. This is not how they were shown on the website with the gift boxes. Overall, I am very dissapointed in the product and customer experience I have received from this company. I've emailed and asked for at least 50% off and they have provided $30 off instead of what I requested. They blamed being late on the post office being behind. I shipped out several gifts across country via priority mail that made it just fine without being delayed that same week. The right thing to do would have been to provide me with a full refund since we weren't able to eat the cookies and they made no effort to let me know they would be late. read more

My absolute favorite bakery in Chicago! We had Kelly and team make the cake for our wedding this past August. Not only did everything taste amazing, but Kelly was so easy to work with and made the process fun! We went a little crazy and ordered not only a cake, but an entire dessert table with tarts, brownies, donuts, etc. Everything was great but the donuts have a special place in my heart. I liked the ability to online order and the woman helping me was very nice. I was told though I had to order 24 mini cupcakes when I only wanted 18. My order of 24 mini cupcakes and 1 regular was over $50. For quality, I'd be fine with it. The woman assisting me in the store was not friendly. When we tried the cupcakes they were SO dry. Like shortbread. The mini cake itself was under 1/2 inch, so tiny. The cake did not taste of banana and there was hardly a hint of Nutella in the frosting, you can tell by the color. This review is for their paczki. I've never had anything from this bakery before, but I was really disappointed this morning. The paczki dough was very bready, not the light, fluffy texture I'd hoped for. I ordered the custard, chocolate, raspberry, and cannoli flavors. The custard and chocolate filling reminded me strongly of instant pudding. A review from last year said there were flecks of vanilla bean in the custard, but mine was nothing like that. The custard filling was the uniform, pale yellow of instant vanilla pudding. The raspberry filling tasted like cheap jam, and the cannoli filling had way too much ricotta in it--combined with the bready dough, the overall effect was very dense. We have always ordered our son's birthday cake from Scafuri and always get compliments on it at his party. This year, I fucked up and told them we'd be picking it up Sunday, when his birthday party was actually Saturday. We popped in and of course, there was no cake. The cashier did a really great job of not making a "You're so dumb" face when they told me the order was for Sunday, and I was like, "Yeah, today is Sunday," and they were like, "No....today is...Saturday..." They were extremely accommodating and made the cake in about an hour and a half so we'd still have it for his party. Crisis averted! If you have a sweet tooth, this place is for you. My Wife and I decided to check this place out while attending the Taste of Italy street fair. I'm glad we did. I'll start the description with the decor. The interior is cozy and welcoming. There is a nice seating are where you can sit back and relax. I'm not a huge fan of sweets, but the variety of sweets at Scafuri could change that in a hurry. The Canoli I split with my Wife was delicious. And the Coffee was as good as anything Starbucks has to offer. If I hadn't of eaten so much at the street fair I would have sampled more, but to be honest I was stuffed. When picking desserts for a special occasion usually you want to have a tasting but due to my conflict of schedule I wasn't able to do that so my gut told me to just go with this bakery and so I did it. I picked chocolate covered strawberries, tricolor cake cookies, mini cannolis, and French macaroons. I asked them to do custom colors for a baby girl shower and they were so helpful, professional and accommodating. They were so delicious and I would highly recommend them. I made a trip to this place just a few weeks after their opening and was very pleased with all of my tasty treats. I went in with the idea of purchasing about $5 worth of their baked best, but instead I came out with a box full of wondrous baked goods that pleased me for days. I went in for a simple scone... The prices were more than fair, the atmosphere was great, the service / girls behind the counter were overly chipper and helpful. Perfect experience. ...ohh, and I came out with. 2 cinnamon twists, a doughnut, 2 scones, some lemon knots (which were freaking awesome), and a turnover. The lemon knots and chocolate spice cookies were bone dry, and the fig cookies were more like rum cookies, moist, just not a flavor I like or was expecting. I've been looking to get cannoli since I got back from Boston and I was told this bakery was pretty good. I was at the Italian Fest with my friends and decided to pop into the bakery since I was already in the area. The employees were rude. I ordered 4 cannolis, a brownie and a nutella latte. The girl who made my latte put it on the counter and as she walked away she loudly said, "you're welcome" in a really rude way. I normally thank the baristas when I order coffee, but I was already peeved at the bitchy cashier. The latte was nice and chocolatey. The cannolis were so disappointing. O.M.Goodness!!!! I don't know what else to say.... I usually order King Cake from Randazzo's in New Orleans when I'm not there, but for some reason Fat Tuesday snuck up on me this year!!! So I turned to my good friends here on Yelp to find a local place so I could take a King Cake to take to work to celebrate Fat Tuesday. Was NOT disappointed! This was equivalent to Randazzo's! Despite it being my first visit to Scafuri, I felt like I was at home as soon as I walked into the door. The decor is very cozy with photographs depicting the heritage of the bakery, plus the owner was entertaining patron's requests for their old favorite bakery items to return. We stayed for a few hours drinking coffee and trying all of the delicious goodies. The pastry in the turnovers is perfectly flaky, buttery and delicious, and the pignoli is wonderfully flavorful. I even brought bread, cookies, and pastries back for my work friends, and everything held up well overnight. It made for a very happy day at the office!! read more

It's an almond cookie with pine nuts that was so delicious. My friends also loved all of the cookies and cannolis. What made this place so great is, though, is that the staff member who helped me was so friendly and knew everything about the cookies and how they were made, and she even let me taste one for free when I was ordering.
